  5. Luckily for me they took a fuel pump from a 2009 from the show floor and put it in mine.. hopefully the last time There is another thread out there where another gent simply put an OEM fuel pump in for a fraction of the cost.. Hmmmm

Hi guys, I'm one of those folks who had an EPIC fuel pump failure this past summer.. and just like you, the bike shut down but restarted after a few minutes until finally, it wouldn't start at all.. From MY experience, here's what I can tell you.. Fuel pumps are covered under warranty.. Fuel pumps are reasonably reliable, however like everything else they can fail prematurely. Fuel pumps are quick to change.. simple actually. it's simple to check if the fuel pump is completely dead, however a pain in the assets if it's doing a death dance of dying here and there before it finally dies, as the OP observed. keeping your FUEL FILTER changed often will help keep your fuel filter healthy.. WHY? Simple enough.. a clogged fuel filter, even a dirty one, will restrict the flow of fuel, causing your fuel pump to work extra hard to suck fuel past the dirty filter.. The harder it has to work, the less it will survive.. My 2006 never had it's filter changed in 2 years riding in harsh conditions.. the fuel filter caused me shut down issues.. and once changed, it was running perfect, though the damage was already done. I plan to change mine once a year.. Pain in the rump to get to but the amount of pain and suffering you'll go through later if you don't offsets what you once a year.. trust me on this one!! A dead fuel pump will not pump fuel to the front cylinders, so when you try to start it and it's not starting, pulling the front spark plugs will show them to be dry, means no fuel feed. The rear jugs will be gravity fed and give you wet plugs, but the front ones need the fuel pump to get fuel. (predicated on the fact that you have a fuel problem, not a spark problem of course) My fuel pump died at around 46,000 MILES while I was visiting SkyDoc in PA this summer. What an irritating failure this was as troubleshooting it was very difficult only because the pump did not die completely. It works, it doesn't work.. However, with the help of our good friend, I was able to get my bike to a great shop and get the bike fixed, all under warranty.. Fuel Pumps.. are our friends.. treat them nicely, and they'll be nice to you.. Take it's cute cousin the fuel filter out once a year if not more often, to score bonus points with the fuel pump
  7. I got looking into these lifts and jacks and actually found a Canadian distributor so it's looking brighter already.. I also found one of my old bookmarks on this company http://www.pitbullmotorcyclelifts.com/ who makes the Pit Bull lifts.. impressive looking. Interesting all the same.. Anyone have first hand experience with these?

Hmmm Gonna see if I can find me one of those.. Hmmmm Are these available in Maine?
  9. All the ones I had seen in shops seems to have a wider deck, and you ended up leaning more.. however, it did bring the lower part of the engine up closer to your face if you went high enough.. I'll have to have another look at it again though..
  10. I'm soon moving into my new 24x24 garage (aka MANLAND) and was looking at various options for hoisting the bike up to work on it. With the bad knees, I have to bring the bike up to working level to save pain and strain.. A lift table, where you ride the bike up and hoist the whole platform up as you would see in most shops would be an ideal thing but after working on one I found you end up having to lean forward to reach the bike and you end up straining your lower back to some degree.. With a jack, you are able to saddle up closer to the bike, and not lean forward.. so it's been my experience with them so far.. With the jack hoisting the bike up on the frame (composite one? can't remember) it's quite stable and you can do the wheels and such while on the table hoist, the wheels rest on the stand.. ya know? Things to consider..
  11. Do you remember how Amsoil is sold through multi-tier'd systems, like amway, so that by the time YOU get a bottle, there is such a markup it's not worth the expense? When he started telling me why it's hard to get the BG stuff off the counter, that was just my first impression, oops, sounds like a dodgy setup and product.. However, instead of product distribution scale profit margins, from what I gather, the BG line of products is sold under a weird setup more for quality control than anything else. I'm just para-phrasing what I remember from the phone conversation.. The product is sold more as a 'service' than over the shelf. You would go to the garage and have a carb cleaner service. He tells me that the garage down the road actually has a big photo promo on the side of the window, hence why he was surprised when I told him the dealership didn't know about the product at all.. it's not sold as a product over the parts counter but as a 'service out of the service dept.. Ok, that does make sense.. They don't necessarily sell to customers over the counter, but he'll be able to set me up with product once I meet with him.. Special formulation? Probably just one of their existing products or a concoction of what they've learned to work best for such an application. He'll be sending me some information within the week. In short, the main message he had was use 44K to clean it out once, and periodically use the other cheaper stuff to keep it clean.. better and cheaper than using seafoam in every other tank of fuel.. I dunno, I use seafoam on a regular monthly basis.. but we'll see if this 44K stuff works out best.. I'll keep you informed once I know more.. I'm not trying to dissuade others from Seafoam, far from it, just providing info about a different product from their rep.. Cheers
  12. I was reading through a thread a while back about this Power Enhancer product.. On their site they have a "store finder" which was for naught because of all the 14 shops I called, none of them listed on the site ever heard of the product.. BAH.. I hate that.. So I found a lad online selling it and bought it.. I fired off an email to the company complaining how bogus their store finder was etc.. Many people stated how impressed they were with it etc.. using the 44K to clean out the carb system and all.. most likely works better than Seafoam as I think Goose stated he noticed a yellow tinge to the floats when he adjusts them. I got a phone call this morning from the local BG rep who got my email response and took time to explain to me about their products and what they can do and what they can't do and what he can do to help me out etc etc.. He also stated that the BG products aren't usually SOLD in the parts dept of the stores, but it's a service sold at the service dept.. that's who you have to ask to get it.. I explained to him about using 44K to 'clean the junk out' of the carbs and fuel system.. He stated that 44K is expensive.. you can use it once a year but follow up 2 or 3 times a year with their supercharge products which is a lot less expensive.. the 44k will blast away the junk and the supercharge will keep it clean.. On top of all that, he's going to set me up with a proper cleaning solution of theirs specifically to run through the bike to properly clean out the system. Most likely do the same thing as some people do with just straight up 44K but this formulation he mentions is a cleaning solution for that task. So I'll keep you informed on how it works and so on.. I just thought it interesting that he would call to set me straight about the store finder thing.. but then get into a full bike discussion using their product.. On a 22L (6 Gal) bike tank of gas, he recommended using only 1/3 of the can of 44K to do the job. I mentioned that some people run a quick burst of 44k through the fuel feed line as a super cleaner.. this is where he mentioned about doing me up a proper formulation for cleaning.. Though 44K is a cleaner, a powerful one, there's something actually better.. After I've gone through my initial online cans, I'll know where to go to get more.. just 3 miles down the road from here.. guh. When you put this stuff in your car or bike, you won't see the improvement until the next tank, after the junk had been cleared out.. then after that you should actually see a 10 - 20% improvement.. The older the vehicle, the better of course.. Interesting info..
  13. I had to go 2" over length on the cables as the tightness in the neck caused a lot of binding and chaffing and odd effects to the radio as well.. No joke, it was as if it was choking the electrons in the wiring.. lol.. But play with it, you'll get enough slack to work itself out.. Cheers
  14. The only MAJOR problem with doing this is if the wind catches it and tries to open it waaay too much too fast.. it puts a strain on the hinges.. So keep a mindful eye on the winds when you're opening your trunk.. If you have a load on a luggage rack and you open your trunk it too may cause some strain.. I tend to lay my jacket across my rear seat when we stop somewhere which acts as a soft stop to help prevent hyper extension of the trunk lid.. Other than the wind? Have fun!

  16. I have one of those spacer blocks but still can't get the thing to fit properly.. there is something wrong with the bolt holes on the bike that won't align properly.. This winter I plan to tackle it better and if it doesn't work then I'm ripping off the light bar and installing buckshee lights instead.. I have heavy vibes from the not perfectly tight light bar..

Well, actually I'm on my way down to Texas next MAY 2010 and hope to squeeze a lot of technical expertise and experience from Goose and the gang down there as my ride buddy and I start the year with a massive road trip =) So if we can't find any before then, we can surely pick some up on the way down hehe.. Hmm doesn't look like a Canadian distributor to me.. the problem is that cross border shipping of POL products isn't permitted for a lot of products, such as oils and tires.. go figure.. someone figured it might be a 'technology theft' of something.. Still, 20 bucks a can.. this stuff had really be that good Unfortunately, these guys do not ship outside the USA.. oooooh Thanks M8
  19. Gees not even THAT.. I called 15 shops on their list and none of them ever even heard of the company let alone their product.. I thought that was very very strange and had them ask their mechanics on the shop floor about it.. One shop looked at the site URL I gave him and he said he would have a word with them tomorrow to find out why their info is pooched.. ODD and strange.. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for a Canadian supplier.. i could order 3 cans online but by the time it gets here I'll be looking at $25 a can ouch
  20. Don't bother, none of the shops in the Maritimes they list never heard of the product.. I think their system is set up to make it look like they have tons of distributors where none exist.. at least not around here.. I'll have to find some and have it shipped here to HFX..

I went to their site to look up Canadian distributors or sellers and they listed 4 auto shops in my area.. good thing I called them up before running around looking for this stuff because those 4 shops have never heard of the product, let alone carry it.. So once again, here we go, living in the middle of no where to be able to get the good stuff lol.. At least I got my bottle of MotorKote in the mail, wondering if I can get this stuff as well.. Willing to give it a shot.. prolly do the bike good before the winter comes. Cheers

The clutch thing was also intimidating at first but once you're in there its like lego blocks, I think the big fear is that once to you crack it open you have that niggly feeling that if you pooch it up, you lost your bike... I had that happen once.. prolly explains why I am gun shy at times.. I have a few odds and shods waiting to be done on the bike but I won't start them until it's deep winter and the bike is inside the garage.. if anything goes wrong, I have time on my hands to repair it.. caution guys I is..
  24. Well Ok.. you DO make it sound simple enough.. I read all the great articles on how to do it and for some reason, they seem intimidating.. well written and well explained don't get me wrong.. but never having seen it done before first hand, anything is 'scary' at first.. I did manage to install my own heavy duty clutch all by myself.. I think I can attempt this coolant change as well... 2006 with 53000 miles on it.. I think it's due..
