  1. Well suffice to say that my last oil change with AMSOIL will be my last due to the costs.. wow.. that was an expensive oil change.. $20 a bottle plus filter.. taxes comes up to over $114 CDN.. I called to see if I can buy it online from AMSOIL and after shipping and taxes it's even more expensive.. For synthetic oil, we've found that the Kawasaki brand of synthetic oil is only $10 a bottle with taxes.. now that makes more sense.. I made the joking comment a couple of time of "gees, if it's that inexpensive compared to amsoil it can't be any good".. the looks and comments back that I get from the mechanics indicates that for the price, it's an awesome oil and possibly no different than other brands.. it's all in the formulation and additives after all, then it's packaging. (dunno it's that entirely 100% true but how I feel about it..) Next oil change will be with the Kawasaki synthetic oil.. I'm still looking into that MotorKote someone mentioned earlier in another thread.. I had previously dismissed it due to some negative comments I read online about it.. but after chatting with people who use it all the time, I'm sorta leaning towards giving it a try.. Picking the bike up today after getting black steel braided lines installed (brake/clutch/throttle) and hope to get it back here before the wet snow flies.. brr..
  2. Just out of curiosity, and mostly because I would be one of those folks out there too chicken to attempt this flush (you guys make it look simple but man, I dunno lol) I believe the fluid ought to be changed out on a regular basis to keep it fresh like anything else on the bike but to full flush it out is time consuming.. On the cheap and 'easy' side of things, could a person not simply drain from the easy ports (reservoir for example) and pour in new fluid.. Admittedly not as good as a full flush mind you but the addition of any amount of fresh clean fluid over a period of time is better than none at all.. Is the new fluid a premix fluid or something you have to determine a ratio and mix? Cheers
  3. Assembled in America, Made in Japan... Harley Davidson.. So it's in the right place lol
  4. Well, here's the funny thing.. Cold out riding, I wore my comms helmet and my buddy and I decided to see if we can get it dialed in by hand sans meter.. and well yeah, we did it.. and wow.. what RANGE and clarity!! impressive.. much better than stock antennas.. wow. Very impressed.. I'm scared to put any torque on these mounts or antennas after killing a fold down mounting so I tweaked it every so slightly and pulled seal tape around the connections to keep it from turning loose.. and it kept it on for the day's ride.. no issues.. one antenna seems to spring around more than the other.. (am/fm) but man.. it's all good.. Gotta love it.. When my buddy gets back from his road trip I'll ask him to dial the SWR thing properly for me..
  5. So today, a total wash out with rain.. I decided to tackle the issue with the new CB antenna install that gave me CB:Err errors on the remote.. If I press the CB button to turn on the CB, it would give me that fault error, and turn off.. buggah So today I pulled the seats off and turned the key to turn on the radio, my intent was to wiggle connectors and wires until the fault went away.. But when the power came on, the CB light stayed on.. huh? I swung the bars side to side and nothing, it was working.. Ok.. key the mike.. still working.. Put the seats back on, still working.. what the heck?? OK.. kick this, kick that, pull this pull that.. nothing.. it all works.. I thought about it for a few minutes and concluded that FM was the brutal cause.. FM you ask? Yeah "Frikken MAGIC" ... no other explanation.. weird.. dunno what to say.. I haven't test ridden it yet so we'll see what happens then..
  6. ooh that gave me a nasty thought.. something I'll also have to check as my choke was very very stiff earlier this year to the point where I yanked off the plastic knob.. lubed it since and much better now.. however, I'll have a look at those pins you mentioned.. Learned something new today.. thanks
  7. error message in the manual? CB:Err is the message and the manual isn't available.. The fella with the SWR meter isn't around for a month now so the rush is not there anymore.. shame.. wanted to see what this was like =) if I do find the cause, I'll post it for sure
  8. $120 per HOUR??!! wow.. sells the bikes cheap, rapes the customer on the service work.. And I thought $80 an hour was steep.. wowwwwwww.. Do the plugs anyway, you'll have a boo at how things are burning and you'll have that out of the way.. takes time but inexpensive step towards trouble shooting.. Best of luck.. Cheers
  9. With mine, the lever is almost let all the way out before it engages but it's not consistent.. I'm guessing air in my system some how.. I'm going to be having the steel braided lines installed next week, hopefully and get the system bled.. perhaps that will make a difference..
  10. Close but no ceegar.. The CB antenna on the left side got a new cable and gos directly from antenna to inside the box under the rear trunk.. nothing else was changed up front or anything.. the AM/FM antenna on the right side, is the SAME antenna as what I am using for the CB.. so they are both the tunable Fire Sticks. I don't think it's the antenna grounding out on the mounts for lack of nylon washer as my buddy held it so it would not make contact with metal and got the same results. I haven't had a chance to get out there to pulls the seats to check it out properly but will let you know as soon as I do.. I won't be splitting the front fairing until I get that new signal light bar.. I seldom use the CB so its not a burden to fix but hopefully it will be a quick fix like a disconnection or such.. hopin =)
  11. Yes please do let me know in a few weeks.. I need to pick up a second jack and could possibly get a Sears one if available here in Canada.. thanks M8
  12. Here's a hint, and it's no bad smack on any dealership but if they have a tons of ATVs and few motorcycles on the floor, the odds are that they aren't too familiar with ALL the Yamaha line of vehicles, let a lone the powerful and sexy RSV ; )
  13. Lovin mine too! How do you find the Craftman jack? I have one from Canadian Tire which leaves a little bit to be desired but it works ok..
  14. I was wondering what the "issue" was with the hot tank and cap.. venting.. how about that.. But to throw light onto the warranty work and dealers there is a major issue why they don't want to do some of the warranty work and give you such a hard time with it.. While in REAL world time it might take them 6 man hours to do the job, because they don't see a lot of RSV and have a lot of experience on them, the warranty lists the work at only 3.5 manhours of labour, so it doesn't behoove them to loose money doing warranty work.. Go figure when I had that fuel pump issue.. that first shop did a lot of warranty work that didn't cost ME any money but it was costing them.. I'm sure Yamaha didn't reimburse them what it really cost.. while at the second shop, they quickly found the issue and got it fixed super fast.. one shop lost money while the other prolly made a coupla bucks out of the process.. In my mind, convoluted as it is, this is what the main issue is all about why you get the grumptity grumps from some dealerships..
  15. Do it up with Leveling Links and you'll be styling around those curves like never before.. easy to install and worth every penny.. keeping the tires at the right pressures makes the difference as well..
  16. I just took the ones listed in the article out of the equation and went without.. however, how tight can you put a wrench to these things? I'm so worried of snapping something after the fold-over thingy snapped off with only hand pressure..
  17. Oh Ok, I got it now.. thought he meant hex nuts on the adapter someone was selling here.. I'll see about getting the hex bolts for the existing bar mounts.. understood now.. (thick headed).. ergh
  18. I actually DO have that space you mentioned and I can't get it to bolt up securely enough because of that bolt alignment issue.. try as I may, it won't tighten up at all.. One side might, then I pull the other out and try again, no dice. I got both nice and tight, and once I mount the light bar to it, that's when you realize the whole rig isn't tight at all.. No bad on the space block, but something indeed screwy with the mounting system on the bike.. Every time I split the fairing I give it another crack to see if I can get it on.. The bolts going through the spacer into the bike have to be allen bolts as hex heads won't allow a socket to get in there.. I've tried various setups with it and couldn't get it to tighten up securely.. Its like the whole thing is possessed and determined NOT to let me tightening it..
  19. TING! Email sent, many thanks!! In the meantime I'm going to try new bolts.. I bought a new set of round heads and those rounded off neatly.. I'd like to keep the lightbar but at this point in time it's hell on wheels with the BS they are causing.. later this winter in the new garage I'll be able to tackle it better.. got a month of good biking (albeit COLD) left before the snow starts to fly..
  20. Its hard to explain what the problem is.. I can't get an allen wrench onto the bolt head straight on so I have to use a ball end.. but the bolt heads are getting dangerously round so I have to use a stupid difficult to use mini-wrench to get in there to tighten it up.. Additionally, if the bolt doesn't go in at the correct 'angle', it seems to thread itself to something different and won't permit proper tightening.. almost but not completely.. seems the inner fairing body won't allow the tool to line up properly.. I may well just cut a notch out of it the next time to permit proper alignment.. What I will do next, as it appears I may have to split the fairing again to troubleshoot a CB antenna fault, is get the same bolts and another shorter pair to see if a shorter pair may make the difference.. I can't see well enough in that area to tell if bolts could possibly bottom out or what.. The bolt threads do not appear to be cross threaded at all.. Putting on blue loktite won't help if the bolts don't seem to tighten up properly.. I had even gone as far as getting an extension block from someone on here which permits you to split the fairing without having to remove the highway lights.. but it didn't install properly as the bolts wouldn't tighten properly, this was before I discovered it needed such a precise angle of the bolt.. Kinda difficult to explain but its very frustrating and annoying to deal with.. especially when it gets loose and you can feel it thudding at certain speeds.. doesn't that suck? See in DragRacer's first photo where his mounting bolts are? Mine seem to be a little higher up and hidden behind the fairing a bit more making it harder to reach..
  21. I know someone will ask what the "Law Of Smoke" is about electricity and electronics so I'll explain. "The amount of smoke allowed to escape from an electrical or electronic device is proportional to the amount of money spent trying to put that smoke back into that device" In other words, if you screw something up and you see a poof of blue smoke coming out of a device, the amount of smoke that came out of the device will dictate how much it will cost to get that smoke back into the device to make it work again.. As long as the smoke stays IN the device, it should work OK.. but as soon as you let it escape, it won't work properly or work at all..
  22. Thanks Steve.. according to the pic I have the nylon washer in the right place.. Gosh I hope I don't have to split my fairing again.. the light bar is causing me huge problems and I think this time it may not go back on properly =( if I pull it off one more time.. so if I can't find anything under the trunk and seats then I'll wait till the garage is built and bike in the barn to pull everything apart again to get it working properly.. Darn light bar... However, my buddy, whose garage I'm hiding my bike while my garage is being built, is not eye my set up closely.. he loves the looks of the black firesticks.. but hates the folding mechanisms.. too loose and rattly.. I'll drop you a shout as soon as I get to the seats and trunk again.. Cheers!
  23. MANY thanks for taking the time to post the pics.. much appreciated.. I take it the LED pots are now your new signal lights? Interesting concept, never would have thought of that.. A dirty bike is a ridden bike.. Unfortunately I have to wash mine often in order to find the loose hardware and tighten them =)
  24. Ahhh and THIS is what we were reading about in earlier posts about switching off to gain additional amps / watts / fun stuff for heated gear on your bike? All I know about electricity is that it follows the law of "Smoke".. that's as far as my electrical knowledge goes..
  25. Many thanks!
