  1. aussie annie, i looked at their site and purchased a set of gloves - they are very reasobaly priced and have many great reviews. thank you very much for this info. when i am able to ride again i'll post how they worked out. buz
  2. "This is all true. We live in a small subdivision and a lot of the people are very unsociable. No one seems to want to get to know their neighbors. I know a few of them as I'm on the Home Association board. Most of them do not come to our annual meeting or picnic. We can't even get anyone to just come over and BS around a fire or anything."........ maybe you being on the home owners board has something to do with no visits. i've heard a lot of horror stories about these boards and they strict letter of the law approach and yes i realize those who live in those communities have agreed to the rules and regs. i've lived in that type of community and needed permission to paint my house and get the color approved .... i don't see both sides of the coin.. "We can't even get anyone to just come over and BS around a fire or anything."...... have you checked with the board to see if open fires are approved....lol i am certainly happy and feel blessed to have grown up in the late 40's and 50's....halloween was one of my favorite events
  3. i have nerve damage to left hand and significant strength loss as well. i would like the collective experience of you all help me decide the best course of action. let me preface by saying i really don't want an automatic clutch setup (at least not now). i can probably adjust the lever to where it actuates much closer to the grip, thereby reducing the length of stroke required to engage/disengage the clutch - does anyone see a drawback or potential long term problem with that? i know there is a ton of knowledge & experience in this group and i am counting on you guys & gals to get me back on my bike ......and thanks a ton in advance. buz
  4. measuring battery voltage without a load is virtually useless, it can carry a 'surface charge' which gives incorrect useable voltage. you need to eliminate the areas which are good first. start by fully charging the battery then have it load tested at an auto store. is the starter relay in good condition.by-pass the solenoid/relay and see if the starter functions properly. i'm not convinced that a starter that works on the bench, will always work on the bike, they can have 'dead spot' in the commutator (the electrical section of the armature which contacts the brushes). have you checked the brushes in the starter - you can take starter to a shop who rebuilts them and have it tested. are the three removable gears you mentioned all in good condition. i know in my nova drag car if i didn't 'shim' the starter to get proper distance between the bendix and flywheel it would drag or not turn at all. is there any 'shimming' involved with your starter. these are some thoughts and only you can determine if they are applicable to your situation - i sure hope you can figure it out so you can get back to ridin' and less wrenchin'. best of luck, buz
  5. SilvrT, probably would have been funnier (and more relevent) had i posted my tonque in cheek in the correct "PC Help" thread....this gettin' old stuff is tough too :-) buz
  6. here'w my two cents worth.... if i had SATA where i was supposta and not drank so much WINE i guess IDE not have fallen out of the WINDOW and make such a GUI mess in my jeans...got up and stunbled on the BURNER which was sitting on the BIOS, at this point all i could say was F key this whole bunch of SLAVE talk anyway. i thought ridin' was tough but this computer stuff wears me out ....lol. actually you guys seems to know your stuff, my hats is off to you all! buz
  7. i recently joined the PGR and was wondering what the normal dress attire is when you ride the event. when you receive an email notice of an upcoming event, do you just show up at the appointed place and time or do you notify someone? i've looked on the PGR site and didn't really find any answers. thanks to any & all who have input.
  8. dale, good input. my vest will be for patches and to be used during PGR events (if appropriate). buz
  9. thanks to all for your suggestions/inputs...............
  10. looking for advice/input on purchasing a leather vest - i am also interested in men & ladies leather riding jackets - preferably the collarless type - heck i'm also looking for full face helmets for me & wife w/snell rating and removable liner. i've been goggling this stuff but was wanting some advice from this very diverse group of riders, thanks......
  11. kingtut, " Another question: how does one start a new thread on this forum? I can't find any button anywhere to click that says "new thread."....... click on the 'Forum' icon....then scroll down to "royal star and royal star tour deluxe tech talk" and click on that.. it will take you to the forum...at top left of forum you will see "new thread"....click on it and viola you are ready to post....good luck !
  12. ...... and don't forget to purchase a trailer to haul all that stuff...best of luck on your trip !
  13. yeppers they are button head allens.......... glad to hear you got it figured out :-)
  14. "I am about to go nuts not being able to ride"..... i can certainly relate. on 8-26 i fell at work and destroyed my shoulder - surgery on 9-16 and rehab until who knows when - damaged nerves which control left hand and it is non functional, waiting for EMG - looks like spring at best for me ...if they can get the hand to work. prayers sent your way for a speedy and complete recover. btw ain't getting older just a barrel of monkeys (lol).
  15. correction - after removing the two allen bolts and removing the front seat - the remainder of my instructions were for removing the rear seat - hope i've not confused you too much!
  16. one more thing...try this link and simply put in all the correct info and you can see every piece part on your bike.... http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/1/Yamaha.aspx
  17. remove the two allen bolts on either side of driver seat and lift it off...... you will see a bolt behind the seat which screws into the rear fender- remove it ......i believe there is one bolt which goes horizontally in front of the seat remove it....viola the rear seat is off. there is additional support mechanism under the seat which can be removed if you're trying to set it up as a solo ride - i think this info is correct - good luck and have fun with your 'new' RSTD !
  18. certainly seems just as qualified as obamas npp !
  19. "And Noah [was] six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. "..................... hmmmmmmmm....
  20. kingtut, the fairing is by Hoppe Industries, i purchased mine from Phat Performance several months ago. it has a really nice stereo with four speakers, you can purchase windshield in various heights and tints. it really is very easy to install and isn't actually 'detachable' like the stock windshield but it would take probably five minutes to remove the four screws which hold it in place. here is another view of the fairing.....i have since painted it to match the bike and added a chrome bezel across the lip that is closest to windshield ( it is fiberglass gelcoat finished from the maunufacturer). let me know if i can offer more assistance. buz http://i35.tinypic.com/2samq1x.jpg
