  1. yeah i can remember those day as well - i was young and thought i knew it all - now i'm old (well older) and know that i hardly know enough !! :-)
  2. check out rick's post - it has all the info you'll need. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1023/cat/7
  3. traveling @ 50 + mph and realizing they were coming out in front of me - i suppose i could have locked it up and possibly made a stop without incident but it's doubtful. it seems odd to me how respect is only one sided in your view, just sayin !
  4. I have just designed the detachable tour pak my RSTD and was wondering if anyone knows if the 'front mounting hardware which attaches the stock back rest on my RSTD is also present on the Venture bike. also there is a thread hole on the chromed fender brackets which has chromed caps pushed into the treads, are these also present on RSV. i'm trying to figure out if my pak will work on RSV?
  5. Wayne, i'll be looking forward to seeing that link. You are correct about the rear seat mounting issue. and pre-drilling the top of my bracket is an excellent idea - to sell as 'universal'. Thanks for the PM and all your advice and help, it is greatly appreciated.
  6. Terry i was in shorts and tee shirt. the only club i'm in is " i once was lost but now i'm found " and the color that i wear is crimson red :-)
  7. Barend, i was headed straight thru the intersection and they were turning right.
  8. So i was taking my wife to our local garden store this afternoon (any excuse to ride) and on our way back as i was approaching a very green light at a busy intersection, i saw roughly 30 Harley riders stoped at their red light to my right side. just as i was about to enter the intersection (running about 50 mph) the first rider just looked at me and pulled out, then the pack proceeded as well - these guys were the hardcore riders and tried to run us off the rode providing gestures and all that hooplah. about all i could do was slow down as the idiots passed me on the left & right just flying. they were headed to a club (bar) that hosts bikers events, even as we approached the event they still were dodging in front of me. is there some motorcycle etiquette that i violated by not stopping at my green light as the ran their red light? scared the dog doo outta my wife and kinda shook me up with these guys coming so close to us. anyone else had this type experience?
  9. for anyone interested in the finished product of the Detachable Tour Pak - take a look @ http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35033
  10. Jemorrisonjr, i'll post up the price soon ( i hope). read the post below and we can handle yours the same way if that is acceptable. 06RSTDRider, thank you for an excellent idea. my buddy & i had discussed using a rubber coat chain that would go through one of the holes on both sides of bracket and then going thru the wheel, but yours serves as dual purpose. if you are going to use the same tour pak, then i suggest you let me buy it, that way i can drill the four holes in it and ship everything to you at the same time. keep in mind that the pak is ABS and really light weight and it comes painted (albeit not top quality but decent), we scuffed mine and primed and clear & base coated it. the pak also has this yellow button on top and we removed it and my buddy did his best to fill the holes (can't use bondo on ABS), he used the material for repairing modern day rubber bumpers. it did not come out perfect but i'm not a perfectionist (and you would have to look hard to notice it). any way if you want to handle it that way let me know and i can get the bracket chromed after drilling the holes. stay tuned for pricing and thanks to both of you guys for your interest
  11. Today is 4-25-10 and i am editing my original post to let RSTD riders know i have 3 brackets left. they are $225.00 and you pay shipping. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finished up the tour pak yesterday and the wife and i logged some miles on it so that i could get her feed back. we've also made two Walmart runs and we filled up the tour pak on both trips. i am happy to say that she said she feels more secure than with a stock back rest, she also said that she has more room between us, her one downside comment was that she thought the contour of the back rest cushions weren't as comfy as the stock back rest - so i'll take the cushions to my friend the upholsterer and have him do his magic. i originally said i was going to offer this unit with locking mechanisms but honestly the amount of hours that we put into it to make it work caused us to think of a simpler and less expensive solution. we're going to replace the locks with knurled stainless steel thumbscrews. this will allow us to have the holes placed by our water jet cutting guy and they will all be uniform. we are thinking on offering the bracket several ways...1) primered 2) powder coated (black) 3) chrome plated, however plating it presents one problem - when you drill it for your tour pak it will chip the chrome ...or you can take it primered and drill your own holes and have it plated. i'll post up the price(s) during the week as soon as i get the numbers from powder coater and plating guy. take a look at the pic and i hope to get a video up on you tube as soon as i can. http://i41.tinypic.com/2q8a71y.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/ipd46a.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/el60rs.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/24uyiie.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/207t45t.jpg
  12. if anyone is intersted in a detachable and lightweight tour pak ....take a look at this.......... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34922
  13. Well we finally got the 'real' bracket back from the water jet cutter. with a few little tweaks we installed it on my bike. it works just as i had hoped, easy on and easy off. as we were doing the final install, my friend came up with (another) brilliant idea - one of the items which drives up the cost of this unit is the 'locking mechanisms. he figured we could replace those mechanisms with spacers (would be welded to existing bracket) and provide knurled thumb screws which connects directly to the chromed side fender mount, using the hole already in that piece (it is currently blocked off by a chrome cap). of course this would do away with the security of locking the tour pak to the bike. or the other option would be to use one locking mechanism and one knurled knob. my bracket will be painted today and installed tomorrow, i'll post some finished pics. here are a few shots of our final unpainted product. http://i39.tinypic.com/2dueeci.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/eqv9mv.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/2e36anl.jpg
  14. i was also wanting the cruiser look with the ability to have a detachable tour pak...but no one offered the detachable tour pak....until now. i am just about completed with my detachable package for RSTD. if you are interested pm me. here is the current thread on my detachable tour pak....best of luck whichever you decide you can't go wrong !! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34535 Buz
  15. 06RSTDRIDER, i apologize for not getting back to you sooner. if you are referring to the space between my bracket and the rear seat - i can make that spacing to your specification. the front of my bracket uses your stock yamaha front backrest docks - the rear of my bracket uses harley docks which screw into the stock holes which have chrome caps in them. you just push out the caps redrill that hole and tap to 3/8-16 - you then use the docks and hardware that comes with my kit. this rear bracket does not interfere with the stock yamaha backrest either. i see no reason why i can't sell the bracket chrome plated (understandng that good chrome plating drives up the cost). i will have the real brackets tomorrow and will test fit them and if all is well then they'll get primed, basecoat and clearcoat and will be installed. i will post pictures as soon as i have completed the installation on my bike. the tour pak that i am using is ABS plastic (very light) - it came painted, albeit not the best job and the top of the pak has this dumb yellow medallion on it. we disassembled the pak, remove the medallion, scuffed the paint and shot base/clear black to match the bike. just today i water sanded it, buffed and polished it - it now looks incredible for a $100.00 tour pak. i think you will agree when i post the pics. thanks for your interest.
  16. forgive my ignorance. you have a mustang seat with backrest and rear pillion. several questions #1) is the set for a RSTD (if so what years will it fit) ........#2) is this just the riders seat w/ a backrest?........... #3) what is a rear pillion?........... #4)how much are you asking?
  17. Finally got the prototype detachable tour pak bracket back from the water jet shop (thought it was going to be laser cut). i'm attaching some pics. keep in mind that this material is only .060 thick and the final product will be .125 (i.e. 1/8"). there are several changes to be made, one is more radiusing on several areas, another is removing some additional material from the sides, and possibly utilizing gussets if necessary. you will notice that the front of the bracket uses the stock front mount for the stock backrest, you will also notice the back of the bracket uses additional docking hardware with locking mechanisms. the tour pak in the pic is one i purchased for approx. $110.00 (plus shipping), it is ABS plastic and actually has lines on the top of pak which mimics the gas tank lines. we will be repainting the tour pak (getting rid of that silly yellow dot on the top of tour pak) and will also be painting the bracket to match the bike. feedback would be appreciated, thanks. and keep Freebird in your prayers and pay your subscription today (additional donation would be awesome)!! http://i44.tinypic.com/x391dg.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/fn5j43.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/359flnm.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2iqho42.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/aamg.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/zss36x.jpg

  19. Well the template went to the laser cutter this morning (i'm ahead of schedule lol) - maybe by the end of the week i'll have the first pass in my hands. i have to retract an earlier comment i made concerning me not seeing a detachable unit here on VR that i liked - DFWRSTD has done an outstanding job, kudos !! i'll keep ya'll posted of my progress. and thanks for the comments and interest shown here :-). 20. I posted this yesterday on the RSTD section and thought i would share it here as well. I have been searching for a detachable tour pak for my 07 RSMTD for 6 months - i've seen several attempts here on VR - but none that i really liked. A friend & I spent about 8 hrs. in the shop today laying out the template for a detachable tour pak. we finished the template (poster board) for a detachable mount and our next step is to fab it out of light sheet metal to confirm fit. next we will take the template to our local laser cutter to have the real detachable mount cut (.0125 steel). We have a friend in Fla. making & shipping the 'U' 1" round tube which mounts to the bottom of the tour pak and to the top of our detachable mount - most likely will not use the 'U' tube, rather just mount the tour pak directly to my mount, with a thin rubber mat sandwiched between the two for vibration dampening. picked up some docking hardware and ordered keyed locking mechanisms (to lock tour pak to mount). i believe my detachable mount should be usable for the tour pak of your choice. This is going to be a real sweet setup when done. Once this project is complete i intend to post pics of the procedure to install hardware and pics of the finished product. If there are any interested RSTD'er who might have an interest in the product, let me know ( i know this is a little premature considering i have no finished pics to post yet ). i am hoping to have this project done over the course of several weeks - this will be a first class mounting kit with or without the actual tour pak - i'll keep everyone posted. I expect that some might ask if this detachable system will work on RSV and honestly i don't know anything about the RSV, perhaps others who have much more knowledge of the similarities and differences between the bike could shed some light. here are a few pic of the prototype mocked up from poster board. http://i44.tinypic.com/imhrol.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/12517h5.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/34edenc.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/1q60e8.jpg

  22. tx2sturgis, i can understand your confusion (after rereading my post). let me clarify - i am manufacturing a detachable 'mount' with a lockable latch (to prevent theft) which will accommodate a separate tour pak of your choice - in my case i purchased an ABS tour pak online for $99.00 and will use that on my detachable mount. the tour pak i purchased has four mounting holes pre-drilled in the bottom and they are 8" center to center, (the 'U' shaped bracket i mentioned which mounts the tour pak to my new detachable bracket will be mandrel bent for 8" centers and may or may not be used - i most likely not use the 'U' bracket and will mount the tour pak directly to my detachable mount with a thin rubeer mat between them for vibration dampening - remember i'm still in the prototype mode) . my quess is that most tour paks can be mounted to my detachable mount. hope i didn't create more confusion. well i'st beautifully sunny here in NC and around 50 degrees, the wife & i are going to do some two up.....ride safe everyone !

  24. count me in on being interested - like many others i have driven myself nearly insane trying to come up with something that is affordable. Starcruiser check out this affordable trunk : http://www.a1saddlebags.com/dmymotolutrh.html
  25. i'm looking online at the venom 150/90 HB15 rear & MT90HB16 front - i see the rear is Aramid belted and the frt you can buy Aramid belted or non belted. should i buy both tires as belted? Buz
