Radio problems
Freebird replied to Preacher Dude's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, I have dealt with them many times and have always been pleased. That is not to say that there haven't been a few negative reports here also. I am sure though that they will treat you right. Yes, I have heard a couple reports here about the radio going bad. I know that Yamaha has replaced a few of them. I still can't quiet get my mind around your issue though. If you get sound from the headset but not from the speakers, it just doesn't sound like the radio to me. I honestly don't know the circuitry though so I am probably wrong. If the switching is done internally in the radio, then yes, that would be possible. I tell you what though. I actually have a spare controller, the black unit that is mounted on the handlebars. I don't want to sell it but if you want to borrow it to make sure it's not the issue, I could send it to you. You wouldn't have to remove yours. Just open the fairing, plug mine in, see if it corrects your problem. If you want to try it, just PM me your address and I'll get it out tomorrow morning. I'll even pay shipping to you if you pay shipping to return it. -
Radio problems

It sounds like you are talking about the Clarion radio. If so, check Pinwall, they have a lot of them at $289.00 to $299.00. Here is a link if it works correctly. http://stores.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc/Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star-/_i.html?_nkw=Radio&submit=Search&_fsub=5820835&_sid=12458664 -
It was just time for it to go away. No one person was responsible.

How old is the front tire? Gently run your palm along the edge of the tread to feel for cupping.

Radio problems

You know there are TWO fuses that affect the audio system right? One is under the cover on the left side and the other is inside the lower right cowling. Have you checked them both? Otherwise, have you double checked to be sure that you have it set to external speakers and not HS for headset? -
Thanks for the reply Rick. Yes, it is a good article. You are correct that it is much more difficult to practice higher speed emergency braking but can also be very beneficial. I've got to say though...it DOES bother me a little that you are able to quote Opra.

Folks, I've been making an extra effort to make sure that ANY posts requesting prayers or any other religious content be posted ONLY in the " Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc." forum. If I see such a thread started in the Watering Hole or anywhere else, I move it immediately upon seeing it. Though I know that the majority of you are not bothered buy such posts, I also know that some of you are. It is not my intention to try and force the religious views of myself or anybody else on you. That being said, there are a number of members here who do appreciate that area and therefore, it is not going away. I want to remind you all that you do not have to read or post in that area. You do not even have to SEE it. You can hide any forum here simply by going to your User Control Panel. Click on "edit options" in the left menu and then scroll down until you see the field that allows you to exclude any forums from your view. It is very easy to do. If you wish to hide the "Prayer Request" forum or any other forum and can't figure out how to do it, send me a PM and I will help. I have closed this thread and deleted all responses. The point was to remind those who have been here a while and inform those who are new here that there is an option to hide any forums that you don't wish to see. This was meant to be an informative post but was starting to turn into a religious debate. Thank you for your understanding.

Very nice. Pulled the trigger...I think that was TRIGGERS....must have been a double barrel.

I recorded it but haven't had time to watch it. Am going out of town this morning so will try to watch it sometime next weekend.

Well, I guess I've got a corrupt sense of humor because I got it and thought it was very funny. Ragtop had mentioned a couple of times that he got such a great deal on the trike (and I agree with him) that he felt that he had stolen it. So...Star joked that the trike had been stolen. I saw nothing wrong with it and did see the humor.

Yes, you should plug all four. Shouldn't affect the sync at all but being as it takes about 10 minutes to sync them, you may as well check them anyway.

No, in my opinion, it's a complete waste of time.

I will say again, I am NOT criticizing Mr. Jobs. Again, I think that his contributions to the tech world were tremendous. I simply take exception to many bloggers who are suddenly giving him credit for things that he is not responsible for. Even you said in post 10: "At any rate, no matter if your a fan or not, the fact that you get to post it here...means your using things that Steve and his companies invented." I ask again, exactly what did he INVENT? I give him full credit for many improvements that he made to various products but he did not invent the mouse. He did not invent the GUI. He did not have the first system to offer a GUI and the mouse. That was Xerox. Though it was not a commercial success, it was their innovations that Steve Jobs and other built upon. Many of the employees of NeXT were ex Xerox people who continued in the development of the system that Xerox and started and that was in use in thousands of locations. Corporations, universities, etc. They did release a commercial version that was not a success. Apple built upon that. Yes, they were probably the first to make the GUI a commercial success but Amiga and others were doing so also. Give the man credit. He deserves a LOT of credit but not for some of those things.

Question about rear wheel removal
Freebird replied to DANGEROUSDANA's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I remove the saddlebags, both mufflers and the rear brake caliper. Nothing more. Removing those things makes it very easy and they are not hard to remove. Here is a step by step submitted by Cougar that also covers a couple other things you should check while you have it apart. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515 -
I don't want to argue that he wasn't a visionary and that he didn't make huge contributions to the industry but I also just can't sit back and let people give him credit for things that he absolutely did NOT invent. You listed a number of things and I could easily dispute most every one of them. The "mouse" is just one of those. Steve Jobs did NOT invent the mouse nor many, if any, of the other things that you listed. http://www.whoinventedit.net/who-invented-the-computer-mouse.html He also didn't make things affordable for the masses. I've been using computers since the TI 99/4A. It was certainly not user friendly but I moved from that to a PC with a single disc drive, no hard drive at all. I have also used a mouse for many years. It was affordable to the masses long before the Apple was.
-
I agree and his contributions will be forever remembered.
-
Well, you know that I'm not a huge fan of the Mac and I certainly don't agree with everything you have credited him for but I will acknowledge that he was a true visionary and that many of his products pushed other companies to improve their own offerings. There is no doubt that he will be missed and his contributions to the world of technology were tremendous. He will certainly be missed.

I suppose most will hate this, but a LIKE button?
Freebird replied to myminpins's topic in Requests for Features
OK, after trying it for a while, I decided to remove the "Like" button. It basically does the exact same thing as the "Thanks" button. If you really like a post, just "thank" them for it. I just don't think we need both. Not only does it just add more clutter to the screen but it also results in more queries to the server. Not a huge deal but always best to have as few as possible. -
Need Prayers for Ponch!!!
Freebird replied to Sweetnothing's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Ponch is a real trooper. I still pray for him daily and his road to recovery is truly an inspiration to me. I only hope that I would be half the man that he has shown to be during this horrible ordeal. -
No, you do not have to remove the exhaust nor drain the oil. Here is a little step by step. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518
