I use Firefox but regularly test it with IE also and I've not seen that error or any slowness with either browser.

I doubt that we have enough interest for me to order custom ones again. I think that the minimum order was 50 or 75 sets.

2007 Venture Rear Diff Oil
Freebird replied to Midnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It's one of the easiest things you can do. It is easier to get to things if you remove the left saddlebag. Remove the drain plug and let it drain. Remove the fill cap. After it has drained, reinstall the drain plug and then with the bike in the upright position, add oil until it is full.- 14 replies

I agree with what was said about the Bushtec. Yes, they are expensive but they pull like a dream. My speeds are dictated by road conditions, traffic, speed limits, etc. The fact that I'm pulling the Bushtec has absolutely no bearing on how fast I go.
-
I too would be very suspicious of that price. If they are going to really do it for that, you are getting the deal of the year. I think it is also very unlikely that the valve adjustment is the problem. If they have never been done and it has over 30,000 miles on it then they need to be checked anyway though.

I'm not seeing any. I even went and looked at the thread that you mentioned from Marcarl and no quick links there either. Sounds like something has installed an add-on to your browser.

WOW...it had to pick the Mercedes didn't it. At least he wasn't inside it. Could have been much worse.

Very nice. I like it. I've never ridden one but I sat on one and the center of gravity was amazing.

Anybody heard from Yammer? I haven't seen anything from him since before the storms and it's not like him to not check in every day. Hope everything is OK. The same for Skid and Frog Man. They are all down in that same general area.

No problem. Just let me know and I'll get it on the way.

Jakbag, I happen to have a spare radio controller if you get to the point where you want to rule that out. The thing is, I don't want to sell it but would loan it to you if you want to see if that is the problem. Don

I agree that it's the gearing along with the rev limiter that makes the biggest difference. I've added the VMAX rear end to my '99 and also the Dyna ignition which allowed me to raise the rev limiter. I think that with those two changes, it would bring the results very close. I would love to have the same rider run those tests doing the comparison with those changes. Now just for the record, my first post regarding top speed was before making those changes. With the stock rear end, I was able to achieve a higher top speed in 4th gear than I was in 5th gear. Don't know if that is still the case with the VMAX rear or not. I'm a little older now and really don't care.

Just a note to let all of our members in the areas affected by the storms are safe and sound. I know that many were hit very hard, especially those in West Virgina and surrounding areas. Please check in when you can to let us know that you are OK.

I don't have a great answer to your problem but the most popular method around here for plastic repair seems to be a product called Plastex. Your idea with the screen may be a good solution but you will still need something to bind it. I know what you mean about softening the plastic and mashing the screen into it but I think that rebuilding the plastic with the Plastex could be a better solution. I understand what you are saying about being careful of not getting the Locktite on the plastic and using it only on the threads but I think even the fumes from the Locktite is enough to damage plastic. In the future, just be sure to keep it well away from the plastic. There are other products better suited to that purpose.

Audio Controller Intermittent Problem
Freebird replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When you removed the cassette, did you unhook any of the big cables other than the one that goes to it? I've never seen the problem that you describe but the fact that you can change channels by pushing the passenger push to talk button makes me wonder if you got the large cables mixed up and not plugged into the correct ones. I don't even know if that is possible and if the pin layouts are the same.- 21 replies

I'm sorry to hear this. It's no help now but I wish you had asked or done a search on this before using the blue Locktite. It has been stated many times here that Locktite cannot be used anywhere near the plastic. This includes Locktite of any color. I don't have to tell you what will happen if you do. I'm not posting this to rub it in but to hopefully warn others who may still not know this.

Well, I can tell you with 100% certainty that they are wrong about the top speed on the '99. I have gone far beyond that and I have a Speedohealer on my speedometer and also GPS checked.

I'm not going to waste a lot of time in this reply because it's not the first time that such a question has been asked and I've responded to it before. I've also fielded questions and/or comments about this in private emails. A couple of times over the years, I've gotten emails from people saying things like "you are ripping people off, the Internet is supposed to be free". I always respond the same way, the Internet is NOT free. SOMEBODY pays for it. It is true that there are a lot of websites out there that are free to the user but SOMEBODY is paying for them. They are either paying for it out of their pocket or by covering the site up with ads. I keep ads to a very minimum here. I posed that question and choice to the membership here long ago and it the very vast majority of members preferred the modest yearly fees rather than all the ads. There are also other benefits to having a membership fee. That is spammers. Only supporting members have access to everything here. Things like the members list, assistance list, ability to place classifieds, etc. Most spammers will not spend even 12.00 per year for access to those things. I have owned up to this in the past and will do so again now for anybody who still wonders. After many years, this website IS making a small profit now. It's not a lot of money and after paying hosting and etc., I can assure you all that I am certainly not going to be able to retire for many years. In addition to the hosting and other costs, I also have to pay federal and state income taxes. The IRS looks at this as a business so I also have to pay self employment taxes. It adds up to more money that you might think and takes a huge chunk of what little the site does clear. That's OK though because I didn't start this site to make money. The fact that it is making a little bit is a welcome bonus though. Like most of you, I work a full time job and run this site mostly in the evenings. I travel almost weekly so spend a lot of time in hotel rooms and much of my evening and early mornings are spent taking care of business here whether it be updates to the software, reading emails, etc. I am not exaggerating when I say that I spend about 25 - 30 hours per week MINIMUM in activities related to this site and the VentureRider club. So, I hope that is adequate explanation to the question. The question really doesn't bother me at all. The fact that somebody would sign up here simply to ask such a thing, especially with his own admission that he really doesn't care, tells me enough about the person that I really wouldn't want them as a member anyway. It also bothers me a bit that another member, trial or otherwise, would put a third party up to asking such a thing. If they were afraid of being "flamed", they could have sent me a private message or an email and I would have gladly answered their question. I'm not so sure about their character either. One last thing. You brought up "free market" and "socialism". Do you even understand what those words mean? You going to "free" sites where somebody else pays the bills for you is your choice. There is no way that this site is not "free" market" though. You DO understand that you were not FORCED to register here and are certainly not forced to become a supporting member or stick around. You are free to buy the product or not. That is truly free market. So, that's all I have to say about this and I thank you all for your support. Don

I honestly don't think that there is a "best" year OR a "worse" year. They have all been pretty much the same. Very few changes. I think it comes down mostly to your favorite color and the best deal you can find.

I've rejected the need for an Ipad for a long time now but Dano sent me this video and now I finally understand that they DO have a purpose. I still think that there are cheaper alternatives but at least I understand. http://www.snotr.com/video/8965/
