  1. It's on my 06 RSV. I took a quick look tonight & didn't see any oil below the shock. I'll take a more thorough look tomorrow & maybe just keep an eye on it & see if it repeats. If so, should replacing the shock be covered under warranty?
  2. I think I like the extension going up the driver backrest idea...that way she can get on the bike, get situated, and then hook up without hanging over the side of the bike upside down! I'm gonna give that a try, thanks!
  3. Sounds good, thanks guys! I changed the oil yesterday & refilled it 1/2 way up the glass, cleaned up the oil around the carbs, and am ready to roll again. Thanks again...JR
  4. Just curious...where are you mounting to? I've got a Hoon mount with my Roady and had it mounted on the left reservoir cover, but now with the RSV the radio controls are in the way. I thought about mounting on the right side but like having it accessible to my left hand. Just wondering how you're doing it...JR
  5. Is it common for some air to leak from the shocks? I set the rear shock @ 20# before a 1000 mile trip home last week. When I got home it had 15# in it. Not a big deal, I was just wondering if they normally should hold air for good or not? Thanks for the info...JR
  6. The connector is not in a very handy place. I want to move it but am limited by the amount of wire. The wire runs from the connector back up in under the trunk. Anyone know if there's extra cable packed behind the passenger backrest somewhere? If so, how do you get to it? Anyone else repositioned the connector to make it more accessible?
  7. You guys are making me feel somewhat better...thanks! Any idea why all the oil covering everything under the tank on the left side, but not the right? Is something not tight & allowing it to blow out?
  8. Do the stock pipes that come on the bike have any holes exiting the back except for the large hole in the center? I noticed tonight that my pipes have about 8 holes drilled into the back around the center hole (and they don't look very professional). So I'm thinking the previous owner drilled them out to get some more sound. Just wondering...thanks!
  9. While cleaning my recently purchased 2006 RSV (after driving it home 1000 miles), I noticed that on the left side around the carbs & under the tank, everything is covered in a layer of oil/dirt. The right side is clean. I also noticed a drip of oil under the bike & found oil dripping from 1 of the 4 tubes that vent out the bottom left side beneath the passenger floorboard. I'm guessing they're related! How big of a problem do I have & what can be done about it? Could it be just that there was too much oil in the case & if I lower the level I'll be ok? Or is it more serious? Thanks for the help...JR
  10. I'd agree with everything everyone already mentioned...esp Spearfish Canyon & the Needles Hwy...gotta ride those! The main roads thru the hills can get pretty busy depending on the day & time of day...we've found that the smaller paved roads like Nemo Rd, Sheridan Lake Rd, and Vannocker Canyon provide some great riding as well without having someone sticking to your tailpipes. But you really can't go wrong anywhere in the hills...it's all great riding...after 3 days you'll wanna come back again! Have fun!
  11. I see there are a ton of different materials available. Assuming one was to get the trunkrest only, anyone have an idea which material would most closely match up to the stock pillow top seat?
  12. I've got an '89 VR. I'm looking for the rubber boot that's supposed to cover the linkage on my shifter. It somehow magically disappeared while in the shop...I'm thinking I probably want to keep road junk out of there! If anybody's got an extra, let me know what you want for it...thanks!
  13. Is there a Sirius model that works good on the bike with gloves on? Most I've seen have pretty tiny buttons. I'd like to move to Sirius just for the Nascar races...
  14. As far as the on-board intercom system on the 2nd Gens, are the connections the same as for the 1st Gens? Already have a helmets with J&M electronics that plug into the older VR...just bought a newer RSV & wanna verify they'll work without any mods on the RSV. I'm assuming they're the same but thought I'd check. Thanks!
  15. So do you guys think that since I've ridden a 1st gen all these years, I would be less likely to notice this sound than someone who hasn't ridden a Venture? Or is the sound not there at all on a 1st gen?
  16. I did ride an 07 RSV and I didn't notice anything...but I didn't ride this particular one either. That's kinda why I was wondering if being used to a 1st gen sound that maybe I wouldn't notice it as much as someone that hasn't...?
  17. Is it true that the 2nd gens don't have the Auto/Manual Air Suspension Adjustment like the 1st gens did? If not, do you have to manually put in air? Need to carry air pump with you?
  18. I've got an 89 VR. Looking to buy 06 RSV from dealer 2000 miles away. Had a friend go check it out for me...he's used to riding a Honda Shadow...never ridden a Venture. He said it was great except he noticed when in 4th gear at about 45 mph he was hearing what he called a gear whine...kept going until he shifted. Said it happened at in 3rd also. Said it wasn't unbearable but was noticeable. The bike has had the clutch basket replaced (which the original owner told me helped a LOT). I think the 1st gen & 2nd gen engines are basically the same engine. I've read all the threads here about the whine & chirp and now I'm leary of plunking down the money if it's something that's overtly noticeable. I'm wondering if I would notice that whine as much myself, since I've ridden my VR for 17 years & am used to that engine (never noticed anything myself). Any ideas? Thanks for the help...JR
  19. I called Yamaha Customer Relations today to get their take on it. He told me: Warranty will only transfer if it passes Yamaha inspection Assuming it does, there is no limit on the number of owners (the YAMAHA dealer was wrong!) Inspection & re-registration must be done within 10 days of bill of sale He suggested the following: When I've decided I want it but before signing paperwork, have shop I'm dealing with take it to Yamaha dealer & have it inspected (but not registered). Yamaha dealer should give paperwork saying it passed inspection. Then the shop can take the bike back Finalize sale paperwork with shop When bill of sale is done, have shop take that to Yamaha dealer with the inspection paperwork and have them re-register the bike in my name Sounds like if you've got a good local dealer, they'll be a bit flexible about things...but that's the official line I guess.
  20. Thanks for all the replies...sounds like it's more up to the dealer...which makes me a little nervous. I talked to one dealer that said the warranty is only good for the first 2 owners...can that be right? He also said that Rod was the first owner...he traded it into this cycle shop so they're the 2nd owner...they're selling it to me so I'd be the 3rd owner and not eligible for the warranty. That just can't be right, especially since the cycle shop never reregistered it with Yamaha. It just can't be that tough of a question...people trade in bikes all the time. I'm thinking that particular dealer is wrong, which again makes me nervous. I'm gonna call my local dealer and probably Yamaha themselves if I can find a number for them and see if I can get something in writing!
  21. I'm looking at buying a 2006 RSV from a car/cycle shop (not a Yamaha dealer). The original owner traded it in a few months ago. I've been told the bike is still under warranty until 2011...not sure exactly what all is covered but... I just read in the online owners manual that the bike must be inspected and reregistered thru an authorized Yamaha dealer...and must be done within 10 days after transfer of ownership to the subsequent purchaser. So does that mean 10 days after I purchase it? What about when the dealer purchased it from the original owner & didn't have it inspected/reregistered? The other problem is the bike is 2000 miles away from me. If I buy it, I'll have it stored at a friends place for a few months before I can pick it up. So I won't have it to take it to a Yamaha dealer within 10 days. Is this all saying that I won't have a warranty?
  22. Oh yea, duh...! I somehow forgot about the signal lights! Must've really wanted them to morph into driving lights! Sorry 'bout that!
  23. I'm looking at a 2006 RSV...the dealer said it has the "optional" stereo kit installed. What is it that's not "standard"? Also, from the front there are 2 small lights (besides the headlight). Are those driving lights that actually do something for you or are they just the yellow lights that don't do much?
  24. I lost a chunk of rubber out of the left side Yamaha passenger floorboard. Anyone have that chunk or the entire floorboard that I could buy? Let me know...thanks...JR
  25. I too bought a Kriss model and just got back from my first long trip. Wow, I love it! I too had a number of people that halfway pulled over thinking I might be an emergency vehicle, but even better I had countless people that I know would've pulled out right in front of me before! They looked right at me and then did the hard double take & slammed on the brakes again. I was counting the number of people for awhile but after about a dozen I gave up. Wish I'd have gotten one a long time ago! Got some good tech support from George at Kriss cuz for some reason I couldn't follow the install instructions the first time around, even though it was spelled right out what to do...must've been dyslexic that day!
