  1. Couple of questions about the new unit: 1) With NavWeather, it shows you the current radar image. Does it indicate direction of storm movement and speed as well? 2) The Garmin website says it is NOT geocaching friendly. Just wondering if it can also be used on battery power for things like mountain biking routes, hiking routes, etc. Thanks for the info...JR
  2. It's the Edsets I'm really wondering about. I've got a J&M now. But the Edsets seem huge compared to the J&M. Just wondering if that's a problem for anyone that's got them.
  3. I'm close to going with an Edset headset rather than J&M Elite...but am somewhat concerned with the size of the unit hanging off the side of the helmet. My current J&M has just a small unit hanging off it that the cord plugs into. The Edset looks to be quite bulky compared to that. Is this an issue to anyone that has one? or is it worth it?
  4. For those of you with a modular helmet AND headsets...any problems with radio or intercom because of wind noise? I've always worn a full face & just bought a set of HJC Symax II modular helmets. I knew modulars had more wind noise than a fullface, but after a test ride tonight in 20mph breeze, there's quite a bit more noise...so much in fact that I'm wondering if installing new J&M headsets is going to give decent results or be a waste of time. I'm guessing others out there are using a similar setup successfully but just wanted to verify while I can still return the helmets for refund if I choose.
  5. What color jug is the new Rotella T6 @ Walmart?...I don't think our Walmart have any of the Rotella synthetic but I'll triple check next time...
  6. I see the Pitbulls are $70 off right now, but only thru 03/31/10. Now if we could get a VR member discount on top of that, I'd go for it! Might still anyways...
  7. Ken made up a trio of key blanks for me and they all work great! Feels better having a few extras just in case. Thanks Ken!
  8. Thinking about getting a Zumo 550 for 3 reasons...weather, road construction, mp3+xm. Ride mostly in ND, SD, WY, MT where alternate routes are few & far between, so knowing what's in front of me is a good idea! Have a few questions though: 1) With NavTraffic it shows road construction but it says it only has 80 markets...and none up north. Am I correct that I won't get road constr info for up here, or can I get road const but just not the up to the minute traffic reports, etc? 2) With WX Weather subscription, can I display weather on the screen simultaneously with xm/mp3 playing? 3) If I disconnect the 550 from the bike, it has a lithium battery to power it. If I take it over & crash in the lawn chair with a beer...can I use it without having the antenna on the bike connected? I'm guessing I'll be able to see the last downloaded info but won't get current updates. Thanks for the help...JR
  9. Why do you say the Pitbull is much better built? Just wondering... Also, the J&S people say we don't need one for an RSV with their lift, but I thought we needed an adapter with any of the lifts.
  10. That did it. It's meant to mount in a different hole using a nut on the end. Got them on & they look good. Thanks everyone for the help...again!
  11. I could've sworn I ruled out there being another mounting hole, but I'll have to recheck it again tonight cuz what Freebird shows is exactly what mine looks like, and his is mounted. I'll check it out again. Thanks...JR
  12. I just bought a set of Billet Passenger Floorboard Backing Plates (STR-4NK27-03-01) from YamahaSportsPlaza. I received them but before opening them I noticed the mounting holes don't match up between the new & stock pieces. According to the vendor, these are the right parts for my 06RSV. I must be missing something cuz I can't see how they'd work without drilling a hole in it, which I'm not gonna do. The attached photo shows the two side by side. Notice how the mounting holes don't match up. Anyone have these? Is this the right replacement part?
  13. Rick, that'd be awesome...thanks so much...I'll PM you with my address. If you won't take anything for it I'll make a site donation in your name! Thanks again...JR
  14. Tonight I broke one of the forward mounting bolts on my saddlebag trim rails...don't ask how!? It's the one that mounts into the crash bar by the passenger footrest. It's approx 2" long with a chromed hex head on it. Not sure the threading. I found they come included with the rails when ordering but can't find anything that tells me what that screw itself would be. Anyone know where I could get a part # and/or order a replacement? I'll try looking locally, but the small town hardware store more than likely won't have these so I'll end up paying more for shipping than for the bolt...but hey, gotta have one in the hole that's for sure! That is if I can find one! Thanks for the help...JR
  15. I know EXACTLY how you feel...that's just how I felt 2 weeks ago today when I checked mine. Hope you get things taken care of without much hassle...JR
  16. No I don't know what the limitations are...I'm guessing it's based on miles & age...and what side of the bed the rep gets up on that day!
  17. Just last week I worked thru my dealer and Avon is replacing my rear tire for cracking...see http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33606 Although my issue looks a lot different than yours. Mine look almost like cuts about an inch off the bead all the way around. And mine were much newer with a date code of 0308. But I still don't think what you're seeing should happen! Avon acted like they'd never heard of that issue before, but they are replacing it under warranty. And my dealer is installing it under warranty as well. Good luck!
  18. Good deal, thanks Rod!
  19. Just sittin' at work thinking about weekend bike plans (and work too of course)...I've got a mudflap to install on my 06RSV. Just wondering if I can remove the front fender completely simply by removing the 4 bolts, without removing the tire. Can I get the fender out by doing that? It'd be a lot easier to drill holes & install the flap while it's sitting on the workbench! Thanks in advance for the info...now I'll get back to work! JR
  20. I just went out & checked the Avon Venoms I had installed last Sept...only have 300 miles on them...no cleaner used...stored in garage during winter. The rear tire (right side only) has cracking. The date code is 0308. The front looked fine (for now)...the date code is 4107. So now I'm pissed too! Guess I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow. 04/24/09 update - I called then emailed pics to my local dealer and he had never seen this problem at all, not with the Avons or any others he's mounted. He's done a ton of Avons including his own bike. He contacted his Avon rep. They are sending a replacement @ n/c and he'll install @ n/c. Luckily I didn't even have to take the bike in for him to see. However, the Avon rep wouldn't commit to any reason for it. He said they track all warranty issues in their database and if something is a chronic problem it will be flagged for all reps as a "problem" for all to see, and he said this issue is not considered a "problem" within the Avon company (although a number of us sure think it's a problem)! He acted like mine was the first & only one he's heard of having this problem!
  21. I read a lot before I bought it about how easily they scratch and the reflection, and bought them anyways. However, the thing about the risers pushing into this cover is what concerns me. So far it doesn't sound like it's been much of a problem for anyone though.
  22. Pulled the bike out of winter storage tonight & started to install a Show Chrome "plastic" gas tank/ignition cover. While installing I noticed that when the handlebars are turned all the way either direction (as they were getting it out of the corner), the risers push into this cover quite a bit, and it did it with the stock black piece also. This Show Chrome piece is much more brittle than stock though. I'm wondering if it's going to crack/shatter the first time I crank the bars over all the way. Anybody that has one have any issues with it? Thanks for the info...JR
  23. Anyone have one of the little rubber bumpers that plug into the underside of the RSV seat laying around that they'd be willing to part with? Maybe someone with a parts bike? (YA22W-24741-00-00 PAD, SEAT). I can order one, but with tax + S&H it ends up being about $7.50...kinda spendy for a chunk of rubber...
  24. For those of you that use a brake modulator on the RSV, is one more popular than others? I'm thinking of getting one, along with an RMark LED Brake/Running Light Bar. I see the Kisan Tailblazer is approx $80...also saw one from Comagination.com for approx $30. Just wondering what most people use...thanks for the info...JR
  25. I got the tie for my 06RSV & tried installing last night...no matter how much I stretch it, it just doesn't fit. The cutout for the filler neck seems to be cut about 3/8" too low. Even if I could get the hole to fit around the neck, the 2 mounting tabs don't line up with the tie holes (see attached pics). The vendor (CycleGiant) claims they sent the right thing and that I can return it for exchange. I'm just wondering if others have had the same issue with the Ties & the RSV and whether exchanging it will do any good at all. Thanks for the info...JR
