iPhone video on my bike, chirping or whine?
MiCarl replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
Whether you call it "whine" or "chirp" it's primary gear noise. Very normal, and very common. -
Don't need to remove fairings to get forks out. Pretty darn hard to refill without removing the caps. I suppose you could invert them and force it through them tiny holes on the bottom........ Really easier to remove the cap. Normally loosen the fork clamp on the upper tree, break fork cap loose. Then loosen the lower tree. That way the lower clamp holds the tube from turning. If you're having trouble getting the cap loose, stick the fork back in the lower tree and clamp it.

Repair 8 Pin Amp/Radio Connector @ Wire Harness
MiCarl replied to Vonwolf's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Is there enough wire left on them to solder to? -
I asked Cathy. She doesn't remember any Shirley's. She says she did have a good time on the back deck talking to you and Michelle from New York whose husband is named Rickster.

Passenger CB
MiCarl replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The mics are always "hot". The intercom can be turned off and the volume controlled by the INT VOL knob at the lower right of the radio panel. When the output level of the intercom reaches a certain level it will mute the radio and CB. You need to play with it to get a level where you can hear each other, where road noise doesn't mute the radios and where you don't hear too much background noise. You need headsets that are compatible with the system and that have the correct cable. The whole setup is the same for the 1st gens, 2nd gens, Gold Wings and many (all?) Harleys. If you have a doubt it'd be a good idea to get together with someone that has a compatible bike/headset and plug into each others' bikes to test everything. Both rider and passenger headsets are the same electrically. As far as the attenuator goes, my wife never uses her (she always wants louder) and the rider attenuator on my bike doesn't work. I don't see a lot of value to it. My wife does not use the CB, and she only changes the radio when we're in a situation where I'm too busy to do it for us. Mostly she bumps the mute button by accident then complains the radio isn't loud enough. Of course the rider mute button won't "reset" the passenger one. -
Passenger CB
MiCarl replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 1st gen Royale has a black panel on the left front of the trunk with two DIN connectors. The helmet connects into the top one, the remote into the bottom. The intercom and radio should work without the remote. If they don't, you have something else wrong. I often take the remote off to keep my wife from bumping buttons and messing up the radio. The remote gives her a volume attenuator, seek button for the radio, mute button, channel up/down buttons for the CB and the PTT button for the CB. If you key up the CB with the rider control her mic will also be active. If you pop over to the tech section you can find the schematics for the connector. I believe you only need to wire in a momentary switch to key up the CB. -
The whole idea of the pastie was that the wives could make them early in the morning and the husbands could take them into the mines for lunch. Seems like it should survive a short trip.

The maximum load on the MKII Venture is 386 lbs., that's passengers, accessories and gear. The D404 in our size is rated at 71H (761lbs.). On my fingers and toes that looks like the load on the tire is maxed out at the maximum bike load. Unless you and your wife are more petite than many of us your rear tire is overloaded. Much better to go with a 77H (908 lbs.) rated tire. You'll find this in the Avon Venom, Kenda Kruze and other tires. The Elite III is available in a 78H (930 lbs.) rating.

Coolant drain plug
MiCarl replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You should be able to pick up something similar at the corner auto parts store. The one by me has them in copper, aluminum and nylon. -
As a rule when I mount Dunlops they take more weight than cheap tires (Shinko, Kenda). Another thing that might be giving you trouble - the valve stem may not be the heaviest point on your wheel. On alloy wheels it's often somewhere else. I always check alloy wheels (valve and cap installed) to find the heavy spot and then align the tire mark there. Generally, I find that the tires are better balanced than the wheels.

He probably didn't make anyway near $70. There are costs associated with having it there for "right now" delivery: cost of tying up the capital, floor space and a cost associated with the risk that it'd never sell. That cute gal at the reception desk costs money too.

Check electrolyte level in battery. (a good washing might be in order in case any spilled). Check oil level. Check final drive oil level. Check coolant level.

I had an some accounts with a local bank. They were purchased by a regional bank which was in turn purchased by Bank of America. The fees hit almost immediately. I now do everything with the local credit union.

Happy anniversary Peggy and Ron.

Ya forgot tires. The plastic pieces are very expensive new (when available). Last time I looked it was about $1,600 for a pair of fairing halves. As someone pointed out earlier you should be able to get a really good one for about $3,000. Even if you got the one under consideration for free it could easily end up costing you more than a $3,000 bike.

Isn't it still under warranty? Take it in to the stealer and let them sort it out.

Better yet, put him in his own private group that only has access to that Ladies Lair forum that almost never gets posted in.

Sounds to me like something is wrong with the squelch.

Son of a gun. Looks like they've finally added a 150/80-16 front to their lineup. My supplier shows it too. I'd checked for someone about six weeks ago and it didn't seem to exist. Sorry for the bad information. Last year was the first time I took my wife to Maintenance Day. That longer high speed run on a hot day fully loaded was the end of my Metzeler ME880. This year I did it with Kenda Kruz and added a trailer to the load. Tomorrow I'll be going over the tire to see how it held up.

Sounds like the .EXE file may be corrupt. Try downloading again or from another source.

Yep. Kinda like the night before Christmas.

Trust no one, front axle.

Yeah, the labor for packing or replacing is pretty much the same. It's a small step up to just use new ones.
