Grrrrrrr! I have been a member of SCRC for about 8 years now and in that peroid of time the SCRC has donated $1.7 MILLION to St Judes!!!! The various chapters have rode to St. Judes in August to present our donations and fund raiser proceeds. Guess what....St. Judes notified us that 2011 would be the last time we could present our donations in person. We were taking up too much of their time! I was thinking $1.7 MILLION should buy some time, but guess not. They suggested we just mail in the money and they would mail back a recognition/thank you letter. I never donated/helped/promoted St. Judes for the recognition, but still....this is pretty cold IMO.

My dad passed many, many years ago but I still think of him often. On the day of his passing, a friend gave me a piece of paper with this written on it. I have carried it every since and would like to share. SHADOW AND SUBSTANCE When I was a child, my father sometimes took me for walks in the late afternoon. We would wander down through the pasture, not hurrying. He would tell me the names of the trees, point out birds nest so well hidden that the careless eye would never see it. Sometimes, if the day was uncommonly warm, he would say to me, “Walk in my shadow. I’ll be your shade.” Even now, I recall how good it was to be a child, exploring the fields, becoming aware of the natural order of life, watching the miracles of the changing seasons, safe in his shadow, protected by the shade he provided me. One day we discovered that I had grown too tall to fit into his shadow. We didn’t speak of it. We just both knew that the time had come for us to walk side by side, each casting his own shadow. Later still, I came to understand that the shadow of my father was as it was because the man who cast it was who he was: big enough, strong enough, wise enough to be my shelter till I was sufficiently strong to step outside and walk my own way. My father gave me the best of himself, his shadow and his substance. Today, I took my own son walking through those same fields. When we stopped, I noticed that he stepped closer, letting my shadow cover his small head. In a moment I felt the pangs of sweet memory, the quick flash of pride, and the fear of my own uncertainty of this life. All these in a blink so that I could not tell which was first or last. As I stood there, I felt, ever so softly, a familiar touch on my shoulder. The touch which, for so long, urged me forward or turned me aside. I didn’t look, for I knew that touch and from where it came deep inside me. In that same instant I knew that my father was still there, urging me forward, guiding my hand and words. For I am my father’s shadow and his substance. -
How is it that if you steal a loaf of bread because you are hungry, you will go to jail? And certain people will line up to put you there. But if you use the internet to steal another's life work, those same people scream freedom of speach issues. Since when did we all get the right to free movies and music without paying royalties to the author/performer? The first admendment does not give you the right to steal!! Sure, as with any law, enforcement must be monitored for abuse. SOPA provides that the site must be notified of a protest by the owner of the content, then the site has a peroid of time to remove the content or rebut the claim and show why it is not in violation. I find it interesting that the major protestors are those companys who depend on other people's work for their content, and don't produce origonal content themselves. All they have to do is buy a couple servers, collect some information (from othere) and now they are gazillionares!!! Could they possibly be trying to protect their cash cow?

We have all received a "what were they thinking?" gift before, but don't be too quick to judge. My BIL gave me one of those metal bowls with the big magnet in the bottom to hold nuts and bolts removed while you are working on stuff. I saw that and wondered who would need that? Come to find out I use it all the time. Sometimes wish I had a second one. -

I too have a slow connection. So here is what I do. When I come across a link, I continue to read the comments and try to judge whether I would even be interested. If so, I open the link in a new tab. As soon as the video starts loading I hit the pause button. The video will continue to load but won't be playing. While I wait for the video to finish loading, I can return to the old tab and continue to read other threads while I wait. Doesn't make the video load any faster, but allows me to be doing something while I wait.

I installed a camera on my truck because the rear visibility is nonexistant!! I found myself watching the camera when going down the road more than looking where I was going. Bad deal in any vehicle!!! Ended up rewireing it so that it would only come on when the truck was in reverse. I would pass on a camera for the bike unless you have more willpower than I.

Have has my venture for about a month and a half now, really like it, even got a friend of mine hooked, and we went and picked him up a 99 last weekend in Arkansas. Rod Late again! I have a 99 that I have decided to put on the market. Just haven't got pic yet.

BTW My wife is fond of saying that she was born in the Bristow hospital the same night as a tornado tore up part of the town 1954. Claims she has been a little tornado ever sence. She calls its being a tornado, I say its being a blow-hard. (If I want her to know that.....you understand)

This is hard to believe Rod, but I live about 20 miles from the epicenter, and last Sunday's quake was the first one we felt at home. On every other one we have either been traveling to/from someplace and missed feeling them. Kind of disapointing really. I have had no damage or anything. Sunday, I was laying across the bed and felt what could best be described as a strong vibration that lasted for 5-10 seconds. That was it for us.

Wow!! I have lived in central Oklahoma all my life, and have never seen such beautiful fall colors as we have right now. Understand, Oklahoma, especially central Oklahoma, has never been a fall tourist destination and still may not compete with the north eastern states. But for the area the colors are the best I have ever seen. Either that or my estrogen levels are way up and I'm turning into a girl!

I cast one vote for bikes 2 and 4 moving to the left prior to arriving at the intersection forming a single line turning left. Then reforming the stagered formation after the turn.

We have all laughed about it, then we complained about it, then we ignored it!! But in an article from yesterdays USA Today it states that Cassett Tape sales were up 27% in 2010. They claimed it was due to the boom in the Indy music business and the quick turn-around time of tape versus disk or vinal. Personally, I think Yamaha knows what is in the future and you guys are buying a lot more tapes than you will admit to.

Mike, Not trying to get too personal here but.... Seeing the northern lights, this time of year, from Florida?? My wife once suggested a Snipe hunt on a warm summer's evening. Ended up one of the best times of my life. Just sayin'.

Braeges, My son, mmoffitt on here, just made the first half of your trip, Chicago to Santa Fe. He did tons of research, maped out each day, and all the points of intrest. Also has some interesting tips and comments. Send him a PM i'm sure he will share what he found and give you his resources. He's not on here all the time like some, but he will answer. I know there was some parts of 66 that were pretty challenging you may want to avoid.

I had a noise that sounded like a loose cam chain only after the engine warmed up. I went from 10W-30 oil to 15W-40 and all is quiet. Oh No! another oil thread?

Two friends were always trying to out-do the other in every thing they did. The first said, "I'll bet I can post on the forum and get more replies than you." The second accepted the challenge. 30 minutes later the first said, "Ha, 25 replies already, how are you doing?" The second answered, "128 and climbing fast." "How can that be?
