NEW YORK (AP) — A worker was killed in the crush Friday after a throng of shoppers eager for post-Thanksgiving bargains burst through the doors at a suburban Wal-Mart, authorities said. At least four other people were injured, and the store in Valley Stream on Long Island was closed. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville, Ark., called the incident a “tragic situation” and said the employee came from a temporary agency and was doing maintenance work at the store. “He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” co-worker Jimmy Overby, 43, told the Daily News. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too. ... I literally had to fight people off my back.” Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m. The man’s name was not released and the cause of death was not immediately known. A police statement said shortly after the store’s 5 a.m. opening time, shoppers “physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground.” A metal portion of the door was crumpled like an accordion. Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday. Many stores open early and stay open late, and some of the most dramatic bargains are available in limited quantities. Among the bargains offered by Wal-Mart for Friday were Samsung 50-inch high definition Plasma TVs for less than $800. Witnesses told the Daily News that before the store was closed, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the worker’s life. “They were working on him, but you could see he was dead,” said Halcyon Alexander, 29. “People were still coming through.” A 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation, and she and the unborn baby were both reported to be OK, said Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a Nassau County police spokesman. Four or five other people suffered minor injuries, he said. Ellen Davis, a spokeswoman at National Retail Federation, said the group knew of no other incident where a retail employee has died working on the day after Thanksgiving. Wal-Mart is working closely with police, company spokesman Dan Fogleman said. “The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority,” Fogleman said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time.”
  4. For all you hobby fliers. http://www.flixxy.com/rc-plane-b29.htm
  5. I'm thankful for all those things that Peggy and Bob have said, but I'm really thankful that Freebird, Don Nelson started this site. HAPPY THANKSGIVING DON, and to all my American friends and neighbours.
  6. I've commited myself. Booked a room at the Oberlin Hotel. Where are the rest of my fellow Ontarioian's? Carl? Wayne? Hal? Darrel? Brad T? Dave? Scott? and oh Sherrie...

  8. Bill, you're doing an awesome job. Keep up the good work. Is the rally from Monday to Friday, Monday to Thursday, or Tuesday to Friday. In Kitchener it was Monday to Thursday. 4 days. Is 2009 rally 4 or 5 days?
  9. But Spear, at least my worth will be real. :rotf:I don't know about the other offer that you got.
  10. Hey Spear, reply to that email and then see how many other similiar emails you'll recieve all pertaining to the same thing. It's a big scam, they'll ask you to send them money to cover their expenses to send you your winnings. (yeah right) Just don't give them any of your personal information, especially your banking info. They get your bank account #, they'll clean you out. If you don't already know it, it is a big scam. But if you don;t recieve too many emails, reply to it then you'll get 10-20 emails every day. Just my anyway.
  11. Visited Six Nations Choppers today on the native reserve just outside of Hagersville, ON. Met the co-owner, Bill, had a nice long conversation with him, and he gave me a quick tour of his facilities. They build choppers, modify bikes, build trikes and trucks. Very impressive. They carry Kuryakyn accessories, K&N filters, helmuts, leathers, T-shirts, can get just about anything your hearts desire. Oh, and they have chrome. Best thing, no taxes! Check out their website: http://www.sixnationschoppers.com
  12. Sonny, glad to hear you made it home safely last night. That was me in the black Toyota Camry that pulled up beside you and waved on highway 11 just before the 400 north of Barrie. That suit you were wearing is also very reflective at night because I seen you from quite a distance away. I reconized your bike as soon as I pulled up beside you, and I rememered your post about you going up to North Bay. I'm glad you stayed dry because it did rain hard there last night. Did you remove your gas tank emblems? Also, on the way up to Washago yesterday afternoon, I seen a 2000 Millienium Venture heading north on the 400 at Barrie riding 2 up. Just wondering who that was.
  13. When I got my Odessy PC 680, it went from the box right into the bike. I checked the voltage first and it was reading well over 13 amps. I've had mine for 3 months, no problems.
  14. I've been told that Rain-X will hurt the stock windshield but not the Clearview windshield. If anyone would know, it would be Freebird. He's had his Clearview windshield for 9 years.
  15. Never count Yama Mama as sweet and innocent. I remember not very long ago about her and her husband jumping over with a new Harley Davidson MC that had us all believing her. Funny.... she never did get that spanking, piercing and tatooing at Don's maintenence day.
  16. Try Zedeno's in Kitchener, ON.
  17. Kevin & Sue, congrats on the new bike. Pretty color. Just stay out of the parking lot at the Arbor in Port Dover. I know I will.
  18. Larry, you're awesome. Keep up the good work. One question for you though. When are you gonna make the spacer for the passing lamp bar for our 2nd Gen? I can't seem to get one, and with your fine craftmanship, I'm sure you could come up with something. Just asking... Jopie...
  19. Look in classifieds. Carbon1 has an adapter to fit underneath the Venture to make jacking easier and much safer. I have one and I will not use my jack without it.
  20. Bill, I think that you and your commitee are doing an awesome job so far. I've never planned one of these, but I have planned other events and I know it is a lot of work and takes up a lot of your time. Thank you Bill and your committee for taking this on. We will see you in 2009! Jopie...
  21. Carbon1 sells mounting brackets for the Stebel where the stock horn is. $15.00, I have one on my RSMV and wouldn't go without. Easy to install.
  22. A big thank you to the organizers of this event. Reiny, Hal, Darrell, Swifty, Marcarl, Wizard765, and your wives. It was truly an amazing week for my wife Mary and I. Mary said it was the best holiday that she's had in a long time. I've met a lot of people at the rally and now I can put a face to some of the names here on this site. What BradT and NaughT did for Bummer and his wife was just beautiful. Also what Pegscaper and Mariner Fan did for Bummer by bringing them and his bike home, well that is priceless. What other group of people would do that for someone they barely know? This group of people is like my family to me and I'm very happy and proud to be a member here. Hope to see and meet a lot more members in the very near future. Wherever the next rally will be, Mary and I will be there. Again, everyone, THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
