Sorry you're having these problems with your warranty. Besides the pulsating, which has been addressed, it would sound like everything else should be covered. just out of curiosity when does your warranty run out. I see you have a 2003 so it should be some time this year. Could your sale date have already been passed. In other words if the bike was first sold in 2-03 the warranty expires in 2-08. Also I have found the reps at Yamaha customer service extremely helpful in the past. might want to try again.

Just wanted to update the status from this company. I ordered the 550 which I was told was in stock and would ship in 24-48 hours and I'd receive an email when it ships. A week goes by and no email so I call to check status and am told it was shipping that day. Again no email so I call the next day and am told that the shipment from Garmin was delayed. I asked what does that have to do with it, you said it was in stock last week when I ordered. He tells me that they ship out those that upgrade to priority shipping first and then fill all other shipments. What the F? Again I am told it would be going out today (8 days from when I ordered) and I'd get an email and again no email. Tomorrow I'll be calling to cancel my order and reorder somewheres else. Bad part is when I checked consumer reviews this company actually had a good rating but I'd say beware.

Good luck Jerry, hope it works out. I don't suppose anyone knows of a retailer that has the DB400. Have been looking for a while, since I first read this topic, and have never found them.

After reading a post in this forum I did some research on 86photo which was where I was going to purchase mine. I could not find one good review that wasn't somehow attached either directly or indirectly to their site. most, if not all, the independent reviews were negative with a lot of bait and switch tactics mentioned. They tend to sell cheaply then try to sell you an inflated accessories package where they are making quite a bit of money to make up for the low cost. If you decline they call you back and tell you they are out of stock. At least that is most of what I've read. I did just purchase one through digitalmegastore.com which had a good price and the sale went easily. I have not received it yet but it's only been two days and I was told it was shipped.

I am loking at buying the Zumo 550 and just have a couple questions I can't seem to find answers to on the web. Will the Zumo wire into our radios the same as an MP3 player or XM radio? I have read a lot about bluetooth headsets or ear buds but want to just plug it in to the radio. If it does plug into our radios will the MP3 play in stereo? Is it worth the extra money for the 550 instead of the 450? Bluetooth is not as important to me but I like the XM radio. Is there any cheaper option than almost $200 for the XM radio antenna? I now have a seperate XM radio and a MP3 player on the bike, neither of which is waterproof. I'm just looking at one thing that will give me the GPS plus the other features. Thanks for your input.

Quick question on radio connections
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Actually I have only checked it on FM radio. I'm starting to wonder if it's not connected to the original radio not working problem. I'll be pulling the fairing here in just a bit so maybe I'll find something they did. I hate handing the dealership a perfectly good bike and then having to trace problems once I get it back from them.- 10 replies

Quick question on radio connections
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks guys. I know it's not the mute button and I already cleaned them and applied dialectric grease about 6 months ago when I wired the MP3 in. I got that from this site too. Guess I'll just pull all of them apart, check them and then reattach.- 10 replies

Pipes between stock & Barons?
WIKD replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had the RK's and fully modded them out and they were still to mild so I bought the Barons. They were to loud as they were but pull out the baffle and wrap it and it quiets them down but still keeps the deep rumble. The stock Baron pipes have unwrapped baffles. I only wrapped one layer around mine and they were perfect, took about 10 mins to do both baffles. Just take the two set screws out and slide the baffle out, wrap it and slide it back in. -
Got my bike back yesterday after being gone 3 days to have warranty work done on the exhaust Y's and the inner fairing replaced due to broken tabs. When I first picked it up the radio would not come on. Turned around and brought it right back and watched them pull the outer fairing and just giggle the wires and it came back on. They said it was a loose connection. I started home and realized I had to turn the radio up louder than usual to hear it so I'm thinking maybe the amp is not connected correctly. Called the dealership and they want me to bring it back and can't tell me which connectors are radio related. Anyone here know so I can just pull it apart myself? Plan on checking all the connections but figured it might be nice to know exactly which ones to pay attention to. Thanks.

Question on wiring XM radio

Cool because that's what I was planning on using, a ziplock bag. -
Question on wiring XM radio
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah I heeded your advice and ordered one. The 6 volt wiring kit that got sent with it should work right? I have to split the fairing to take care of a few other projects anyways so no big deal. -
Question on wiring XM radio
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Bob. I"ll probably either use the cig lighter or maybe the aux plug. Would rather hard wire it in so all I need to do is stick it on and plug in the plug. By the way in case I hadn't thanked you already, thanks for the outstanding deal also. -
My bike is in the shop for warranty work but plan on wiring an XM radio, the roady 2, once it gets back to me. my question is I want to hard wire it in but have heard that the best idea is to wire it into something that only comes on with the ignition keyed. Any recommendations on what to tap it into?

After trying a few different configurations I have found that the best set up for me is the rear at stock, the front lowered one inch and the stock size tires. Absolutely no problems up to 90 MPH and I don't plan on going any higher. Slow speed stability has increased dramatically and U turns at slow speed are just about worry free. Best single thing I have done to the bike.

Installing factory passing lamps
WIKD replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I tried wiring them like Yamaha said and blew the main fuse. now I have them wired into the cig lighter like someone suggested here and no problems. I do have a question about brightness though. Mine appear to be dimmer than they should be. I have the sylvania headlight bulb in the bike and it seems to be much brighter than the passing lamps. Is this because it's run thru the cig lighter instead of battery/relay power or are they just dim? -
How do I know if I have a bad rear shock?
WIKD replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not sure yet if mine is going bad but I have noticed that lately the ride is a little bouncy and it just doesn't seem stable in the corners. I have lowered the front, I'm wondering if they'll give me grief about the warranty because of that or if they'll even notice. -
Thanks guys, I figured he was full of it. I guess I'll give him a day or so and see what happens. I did call Yamaha and the guy there said both should be covered and that it sounded to him like the service manager just didn't want to be bothered.

OK I need some advice. I went to my local dealer today to have two warranty problems addressed. From what I read on here they are both common problems. The first being the tabs on the inner fairing that break and allow your windshield to shake. The other problem is on the pipes where the two pipes become one. There is an exhaust leak there on both sides of the bike. First I'm told that pipes, even the stock ones I have, are accessories and only covered under warranty for 1 year. Then I'm told that the tabs may not be covered because I may have to return to the dealer that built the bike. Supposedly Yamaha says that those tabs break due to the guy building the bike breaking the tab. Doesn't make sense since the bikes a 2006 and only started to notice the rattle last week. In fact when I first read on this forum about a month ago about this problem I looked and they seemed fine. He stated he would call Yamaha but that he did not expect them to cover either problem. Any advice? How full of crap is he?
