Wizard765 replied to mechanic1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm using those exact lights with 35watt bulbs from Lowes. They work perfect and light up the road very well. They look great, work well, and not expensive.. win win win Wayne -

Yes and the brackets replace the existing horn brackets. They still hold the horns and the lights as well -

I got a pair of platinum burners from Walmart that Squidley picked up for me. They are not available in Canada. Anyhow I went to Lowes and got 35 watt replacement bulbs. I use them all the time and have not experienced a problem. Even the 35 watt are VERY bright. People tell me they can see me from a long ways away and they light up the road very well. They come in two sizes and I got the smaller ones. Look awsome and work well. I mounted them using Squidley's brackets. Wayne -
I've had Haggis but did not particularly like it. I guess buffalo Testicles at a restaurant in North Bay would be the weirdest for me

I'm no expert either From what I've seen so far the only make that lets you do routes on your PC and then upload them to the unit easily is the Garmin. Correct me if I'm wrong please. I believe this is true for any Garmin unit. ( I know it works on my smartphone ) If all I wanted it for was to get in/on the vehicle and punch in a destination then pretty much any GPS will do that well. Some let you choose the kinds of roads to avoid. I really want to be able to make a route easily (this is easy on the PC) and upload it to the GPS so the only make for me would be Garmin at this time. Wayne

New Fuse Block
Wizard765 replied to Bill W.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I went to the hardware store and bought a new fuse block similar to the original. The metal peices on the original just slide out when there is no fuse. The new block had the same type of metal peices which just slid back in. I then soldered all the connections back where they were and I have the original block with new components. It even still has the cover. The cost was about $6.00. Wayne -
I've been playing with this sort of thing for a few days now. I was using MS Streets and trips and I take a route that I've saved. Using GPSBabble I can transfer it to MapSource. When I open it in MapSource it goes from waypoint to waypoint in straight lines as the crow flies. All I have to do is right click on the route and choose recalibrate. Voila!!! All is perfect. Does Google Earth have a recalibrate??

Ivan and Shep: I didn't know about xda-developers. Thanks for the tip. I have been hanging around PPCGeeks and have done some hacking. Got a few things working better and the way I want plus added a few apps. Lots of fun. BuddyRich: I would have a Zumo550 as my first choice and go with your cables but that isn't in the cards at the moment. This is a good solution that I can justify because I needed a phone anyhow. I can have fun with this and it will do what I need. Now I still need a way to mount it to the bike. I have found a few solutions for the car. Wayne

Buddy: I DID put Garmin XT Mobile on it and LOVE it .. awsome.. makes the phone into a Garmin GPS and works like a charm. Now I'm in the market for a way to mount it to the bike / car. Wayne

Thanks for the memories... I flew R/C for many years. Taught a number of folks how to fly and in general had a great time. I know the kind of work and hours that went into that project. To get it to do the things they did like the drone and the chutes is a job all in itself. I often wonder if anyone ever did a loop or flew inverted in a B29.... Hmmmm Wayne

Well I don’t know if you are suppose to get excited about these things but here goes. My Cell phone died on me so I had to replace it. I looked around and decided that I could use a smartphone because it would replace my Palm Pilot that I’ve used for many years and I’d only be carrying one device instead of two. This is where is gets exciting. I started looking at the iPhone but my carrier isn’t offering that one and I’m windows based. I still have a contract for another year and a bit. HTC has a new phone called the Touch Diamond. AWESOME. It has Windows Mobile 6.1 and Mobile Office. Now I can use Word, Excel and Powerpoint on my Phone. It also has WiFi which means I can check in here from any hotspot without using air time. Facebook and Youtube are very easy as well as e-mail. I can get a data plan so that I could use these anywhere but that gets expensive. Another cool part is what they call an accelerometer which allows the unit to know what position it is in. It will rotate the screen from portrait mode to landscape mode in any screen that I want to do that just by turning the unit. It is so sensitive that there is a game called Teeter which is like the old Labyrinth game (wooden box with two knobs and a maze with a steel ball). Gotta try it to believe it. Man I love technology! Now comes the main reason I’m excited. This thing as a GPS built in. Telus sells their navigation system as so many $ a month which is pretty good and the unit comes with Google Maps which uses data. BUT I got Garmin XT Mobile software which actually turns MY PHONE into a Garmin GPS. I can use MapSource to draw out a route on my PC and then upload it to the phone. I also tried TomTom which works very well but doesn't have the ability to work on the PC and upload to the phone. I liked some the TomTom day to day features but overall the Garmin works better for what I want to do with it. This gets even better. I’ve been using Ms Streets & Trips for years and am very comfortable with it. I just took a route that I used this past summer and transferred it using Babble to the MapSource software (amazingly easy) and then uploaded to my phone. It worked flawlessly. Bottom line. I now have a smartphone, contact manager (Outlook), Internet access, games, mp3 player, mini computer, AND a Garmin GPS in my pocket. WOW!!! Oh and I can even use it as a level. Wayne

The place in Bismark has a large selection with great prices. Like Carl said I am very happy with the pair I got. BUT I didn't see any in the style you are looking for. The place is expanding all the time and are bringing in new things on a regular basis so going to check it out would be fun. If they didn't have exactly what you wanted they could most likely find it for you and get it in. The guy is excellent to deal with. Wayne

Rocket is right about the 5 pin for the headsets. You may be able to pick up a MIDI cable from online or a music store with right angle heads on it. Midi cables are also shielded so will work fine. The cable from the CB to the Main radio is different though and harder to find. I did NOT get any plastic from a MKII but modified what I had to make the CB fit. It meant moving the CLASS up to the middle and puting the CB in the bottom. I took the piece of plastic that covered the hole and cut it to make a spacer to fill the hole the CB was going in. It is not as big as the CLASS top to bottom so the space needs to be filled but it works perfect and looks like it is suppose to be there. The overflow bottle needed to be moved just a tad as well. I believe a left hand control from a MKII would work as well but I opted to get a waterproof button from Wingstuff that I 2 sided taped to my existing left hand control and it works perfect. I got a second one that velcros to the passenger grab handle so the navigator can put her 2 cents in as well. If you want pictures I can take them and upload. Let me know. The existing antenna is not for CB so you will need to get a CB antenna. One from a MKII would be the easiest fix. I changed mine to a standard CB and had to change the whole thing including the cable. Works fine. Wayne -

There is a wiring diagram available here on the site. It is fairly easy. there are 5 wires coming from the CB and unless you want the handlebar controller you only need 4 of them. I cut my plug and bought a new one from an electronics outlet. If someone is willing to cut off the plug from a harness that would work well. Let me know if you need any help. Wayne -
Hey Bob: Sounds like you guys had and AWSOME time. It's great to see you back in the saddle. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when we get together with you and Becky. Hopefully that will be soon. There better be LOTS of pictures. Wayne
