  1. This is the RAM mount that I have. It works very well and fits my Garmin Nuvi 255 perfectly. The pics may be a bit deceiving but the mount easily clears the tank and ignition, etc from all handlebar positions.
  2. Glad to hear it! I hope I can say the same. Mine is going in April 12th. I already checked the clutch basket and it is definitely the "I" version.
  3. Checked it out a little closer. There isn't enough room for this sub under the trunk. Looks like I will be leaving it as it is with the 4 x 4 Polk speakers.
  4. Yes, thats it. I am trying to find an extra output from the system's amp, as in Line OUT or extra speaker outputs. However, I would like to do it in a way that does not degrade the sound to my rear speakers. The sub's own amp may provide some isolation such that using a straight Y cable may not affect the main amp's outputs. Have to check no that. I haven't figured out where I would put the sub yet anyway so have a few other things to figure out too. One option may be on the bottom of the trunk. I will let you know what I find out as things progress here. (OR... NOT)
  5. Hi: Does anyone know if there is an extra RCA line level output, or subwoofer output available on the 2nd Gen Venture stereo? I am looking at possibly adding a Clarion SRV314 subwoofer but will need an audio signal. This sub can accept a line level RCA signal or speaker level so either would work. Any idea where I would start to look to find out if it does have one? I am looking to get a bit more bass to go with my polk audio dB 401s. Ron
  6. I installed the risers as well and had the same problem with the original dampers. I went out and bought a short length of 3/4 inch ID heavy rubber hose, cut it to the length of the bars between the risers, then split it length wise and fit it onto the handlebars between the two risers. It fits snuggly against the fairing where the Cruise switch is. I placed it on there with the split at the back so that all you can see from the front is the black rubber. I then used two small black tie straps (zip ties for USA) around each end. It seems to provide just the right amount of support to the fairing. It has been this way for three years with no problems and is hardly noticeable. Ron
  7. 2007 RSV. I usually get about 220 kms to a tank at 120-130 km/hr. Once, bucking a very strong wind, it was about 185 kms... and surprised the hell out of me when it sputtered. Other times with wind behind up to 250 kms. I checked my speed against my GPS and it reads about 8 % high. However, my odometer is only maybe 1 or 2 % off. (they are calibrated separately).
  8. I am on Elite 3s and have about 26,000 kms (18,000 miles?) so far with plenty to go. I am surprised how well they are wearing. But I see some people on here that have reached 25,000 miles or more on them so I believe I have a ways to go still. I run 36-38 front and 40-42 on the rear. Mostly solo. I am really happy with the Elite 3s. Motorcycle Superstore in Oregon had great prices, especially when on sale, with free shipping to USA. (unfortunately I am in Canada).
  9. Well, I just ordered two pairs right away as soon as I read this post. Should make my Polk Audio db425 coax speakers in my 07 RSV sound even better. What those cups are trying to do is enclose and limit the air space behind the speaker cone. This provides some resistance to the cone and dampens it from moving too freely. That smoothens the cone movements and keeps them from hitting the end stops.... (for those of us who turn em up!) Should make for deeper smoother bass....(I mean... bass... considering it is a 4 inch speaker!) and less distortion. I was looking to do something like this on my own but this is going to be way easier. Thanks for the tip. P.S. Started my RSV up today!!! +4C and the snow is melting in Saskatoon Ron - Spaceman
  10. SilvRT.... Could you please point me to the Kruisin the Kootenays info? I am out there every summer so will try to time it right this year and take it all in. Thanks Ron
  11. Hi everyone... I have an I basket sitting at my dealer waiting to be put into my 07 as soon as the snow goes. I am going to stop by there soon and check that it is the I basket. Hopefully it will make the difference. Spaceman
  12. I have the groaning shock issue on my 2007 RSV. It started at about 18,000 kms and still does it now at 42,000 kms. I asked my dealer to check into it EVERY time I had it in for an oil change at the regular intervals. They checked and lubed swingarm bushings a couple of times but that did not help. I asked them if they had any concerns if I put some fork oil in through the Shraeder valve as suggested on one of the posts here. That also did not help even after a few tries. I continued to ask my dealer to do something about it every time I had it in. They eventually told me that it was "normal" to make this sound. I then asked them if the brand new 2009 RSV sitting on their showroom floor did it, and they replied "no". SO... I said to them that if the new bike does not do it, then my bike, which according to them is all "normal" should also not do it. If the correct and intended (normal) operation is quiet, then there must be something wrong with mine. Eventually, after several emails to Yamaha Canada they have agreed to change my shock. I will be taking it in first thing in the spring. I am getting the clutch I basket changed at the same time.
  13. When I installed my 1 1/2 inch baron risers I saw that the rubber "bumpers" or "supports" no longer touched the faring/dash. I believe those bumpers were there to provide support if the faring flexes towards the back at speed. So, I took a nice new piece of 1 inch rubber hose from auto parts shop, split it and black tie wrapped it around the handlebar right between the two risers. This was a tight fit, but that is what I wanted as it once again supports the dash/faring. Looks ok to me too. Or, better than a possible crack in the faring.
  14. Ha ha... Yeah, I am going to go ahead and get the dyna. It sounds like it makes a noticeable difference. Since I have the seat off and battery out for the winter anyway.... now is the time to do it. (Well.... it is -34 C out there.... so I don't mean RIGHT NOW!!)
  15. Hi: Has anyone ever asked (or told) their dealer about installing the dyna 3000 and whether or not there were any warranty issues with this? Normally,.. I may just go ahead and install something like this but I have had some warranty issues recently and received some comments from Yamaha that led me to believe something like this may void the warranty.
  16. Glad to hear that Yamaha Canada was supportive at one of your USA rallies. Believe me they are NOT always so supportive... especially not supportive to their dealers when dealing with a few ongoing issues with their products. I agree with previous post that Yamaha does not really want to listen. That is my biggest issue with my Yamaha... lack of support from mother Yamaha in Canada. Overall I love the bike though, but when I need some support...PLEASE!
  17. I have the large (or tall ??) clearview with tint and vent. I did not have any issues with fit and I noticed an improvement with head buffeting. So far I am happy with it (2 seasons and about 24,000 kms).
  18. I have the Clearview, large (or tall).. not sure what it is called, maybe it is the 19 inch? Anyway, I can just see over the top by about and inch and half. I wanted this because I didn't like looking through the rain with the stock shield. The clearview is also 2 inches wider each side, has a very unique "warp" shape, and the vent. I definitely had a significant reduction in buffeting on the top of my helmet with the clearview. I agree with previous post that having the vent open slightly improves the wind performance. There is less turbulence around the edges and a smoother, quieter ride with the vent open slightly. It also does a nice job of slicing bugs... but that's another story. I am happy with the clearview with vent.
  19. Some Canadians... like my brother... have a closed bike trailer and in the middle of winter when its too cold to ??, well to cold to do pretty much anything outside, they trailer their bikes down to Vegas or other place warm, then ride around for a couple or three weeks and trailer back. I wouldn't mind doing that but I don't have trailer.... yet. Seems like a nice wineter getaway.
  20. I second the comment about checking into a RAM mount. I have one for my Garmin Nuvi255. It mounts easily onto the handlebars, is very adjustable and has been perfectly secure for about 20,000 kms so far. Bought mine on ebay in US.
  21. Thanks for the info FreezyRider. That is what I thought.. that it was a less than hour job. They said that there were a lot of things that they had to tear down before they actually get at the clutch basket. Oh... and I can't actually do what you suggest and take the old basket home. That is not how it works (at least up here in the great white north). They keep the basket. They have to return it within 30 days, so I would have up to that time to decide if I wanted to pay the $300 to put the old one back in.
  22. SilvrT... how do you talk to the rep? Rep for prairies will NOT talk, email, phone, text, look/smile at, any customer on any issue. I think they visit the local dealer in the dark of night only. Protocol is... START HERE> go the dealer > dealer attempts to repair > if problem not resolved > repeat go to dealer once more > if problem not resolved > call Yamaha Canada > Yamaha Canada says contact dealer > Dealer says done everything they can > Contact Yamaha Canada > they say go to dealer > repeat as many times as necessary > until you get "Contact Consumer Protection Dept and get a Lawyer"... from Yamaha Canada > STOP in absolute shock > try dealer again...or??
  23. Well, after another frustrating email with Yamaha Canada and dead end phone call with teh dealer, they have confirmed that they will NOT put my original clutch basket back in if the whine gets worse with the I Basket. So, I would have to pay... how much>??? well, they say three hours at the reduced rate of $85 an hour (just for me... cause I am a valued customer... standard rate is $95 an hour). Plus shop supplies, taxes... So I am looking at about $300 to change back to the old basket if the I -basket makes it worse. So I am really wondering if it is worth the chance. BUt I would so love to have that whine/chirp reduced. I read somewhere that the basket change was a 0.5 to 1.0 hr job.. I think they are just trying to make sure they get some $$ back. And yes...I would have to agree with an earlier post that our canadian dealers and customer support does not seem to be as supportive as thier USA counterparts. I will have to think about this clutch thing carefully as I don't really want to go through it all and then have to pay $300 to go back to what I have now anyway. I asked the dealer if they would buy my bike back..... you know what the answer to that is!!!!
  24. My I basket is finally here after about two or three weeks wait. Unfortunately I have to travel for work for a few weeks and can't get it put in until after I return. I have a couple of questions please for any of you that have been through this: - My dealer was told by the Yamaha Canada Service Rep that the i basket should reduce the sound but will also move the whine sound up in rpm so that it occurs at a higher speed. This seems contrary to what I have read in some threads. I am hoping, if anything, that it will happen at lower rpm. Right now is at my low end highway cruise speed around 100 -110 km/hr, and I really don't want it at my more usual cruise speed of about 120 km/hr indicated. Any comments? - My dealer is checking if Yamaha will pay to put in the original basket if the I basket makes it worse. So far, does not sound promising. It seems to me they should put in whichever sounds better. Yamaha Canada has been very difficult to deal with. Any comments or experiences from other members? Is the I basket change really worth the effort?
  25. I agree with FreezyRider. If the whine/chirp is NORMAL then all the bikes should do it. Yamaha said the same thing about my GROANING rear shock. It is NORMAL. However, when I went and flexed their new 2009 up and down and it did not make the sound... I pointed out that this NORMAL bike didn't make the sound. Now they are replacing my rear shock and the clutch basket. However, clutch basket has been on back order for two weeks now. Not sure when I'll get it. I hope it makes some improvement though. The dealer also said that Yamaha has had a lot of complaints (even more than Venture) about gear whine on the new Star 1300. Yeesh. You would think Yamaha would learn and make a change.
