  1. Well, I just checked into the group, and we are up to 48 members even Don (The big cheese) is a member. Getting new members all the time, and I think it is bringing new members to this site as well, at least I hope it is. If you are a facebooker, and have not joined the group yet, please do! And please add me to your list as well! Cheers! Sonny
  2. For all things Zumo, you should check out www.zumoforums.com lots of fantastic information there. I am fairly certain that your exact situation has been discussed before. Lots of tips and time savers also. Latest updates, and lots of stories from other users. Sonny
  3. I have read both of the Proficient books, and also his Street Survival Guide. All of them give you great information, that may help you to save your own life. I just bought 3 copies of Proficient 1, to give as gifts to people I ride with, and care about. Lots of experience, and good riding habits were the foundation of this book. Definitely a must read for anyone who is serious about improving their skills.
  4. Why not? It is easy, here watch me.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjGfv2AeUss]YouTube - Crazy Motorcycle Texting In India!! Funny!!![/ame]
  5. I am once again trying to figure out if any members in Vegas would be interested in meeting up. I will not be on my bike, wish I was. I will be in Las Vegas from Nov 6 - 13. So if any of you are up for it, let me know!! I hope some of you are available. Sonny
  6. Hello, here is my take. I own the Cellular line interphone system, which is identical to the blue ant system, I am fairly certain they are the same, just branded differently to different distributors. Here is a link to the unit that I have http://radioworld.ca/product_info.php?cPath=403_404&products_id=4303 This is available as a single unit, or in a dual pack, which you would require for communications with your wife. The unit is also very handy for those of us with GPS units, with bluetooth functionality. Here is how mine is set up. I have my cell phone paired with my zumo 550, and my interphone headset paired with the zumo as well. When I am navigating with my GPS, it gives clear instructions and directions to me. When a call comes in, the display shows a very large indicator of who is calling, and I can answer by speaking, or touching the screen. I can also make outgoing calls easily too. For the most part, people have no idea that I am on my bike riding at the time. The unit has a very good signal processor, that cleans up all outside noise. For bike to bike, or rider to passenger communications, it is very similar. You are limited to a much shorter range with bluetooth, than with RF, or CB technology. The unit functions very well within 500 meters, and up to 1000 meters with a clear line of sight. So, for a group ride they are fantastic. For rider to passenger, same thing, great sound clarity. You certainly will not have to worry about being able to hear your passenger. The units come in 2 different styles, for open face & modular, and Full face helmets. You can find them on eBay as well, but my experience was they were not that much cheaper than reputable online merchants. I highly reccomend them. If you have any other specific questions, please feel free to ask, in this thread, or pm, what ever you like. As always, I'm here to help if I can. Sonny
  7. The above post shows 1 way to do it, but there is another, that worked very well for me. First of all, you need a 1" drill bit, drill out the ends. On the right grip, you will re-locate the throttle box up a bit, which involves repositioning it, and drilling the guide pin hole. The easiest way to do it, is bring the grips and your bike to the next Ontario Maintenance day, and let GaryN and Marcarl do all the work for you. You will not be able to get near the bike. And while you are eating some hamburgs and dogs, your grips will magically be installed .. But seriously, if you need help with this install, ask around, I am sure Gary or Carl can guide you better than I could. Good luck! Sonny
  8. Well, here is all the information that I could find. The Miximizer is made by Hopkins Manufacturing of Emporia Kansas. And here is the website and the direct link to the product I am talking about http://www.hopkinsmfg.com/10111.html The picture on the website, does not show the tubing that comes with the syringe. The tubing is what makes the miximizer work for our needs, and it is in the pack too. I am not sure if you can order directly, but there is a toll free number, (1-800-524-1458)they might be able to tell you which of your local dealers carries the product. If worse comes to worse, I can make a trip to Wal-mart, and then the post office I suppose.
  9. Just a quick note about that. I too recently drained and filled my rear diff, only because I wanted to do it, not that it was anywhere near time to do it. And my good friend Charlie (dragerman) gave me some fantastic advice, which is the only kind he ever gives out. I went to wal-mart, and right where he said it would be was a small tool call "The Miximizer" yes I spelled it right. What it is, is a fairly large syringe, with a clear flexible tube attached. I think it's original purpose was for mixing oil and gas, or something like that, but what it DOES, is make adding gear oil a snap. Filled the syringe, and bent the tubing into the add hole, and squeezed it in. Perfect. Not sure how else you could do it, without taking the bag off. Thanks again Charlie!!
  10. I would have to disagree on the worth of K&N filters. I use them in all my vehicles, high performance or not. The value of K&N's is apparent when you are not spending money over and over on disposable paper element filters. The paper filters are about $35 EACH. The K&N is about $100 for BOTH. They last much longer, they are washable and re-usable. So aside from the "green" advantages, they will save you money. My personal experience, was a sustained fuel economy gain of about 8%, around the time that I switched. This I am told, is not possible. So some other way, my fuel economy went up, but they say it is not possible that it was the air filters, so be it. Oh, if you do decide to get them, please make sure you install the foam rubber gaskets that come in the box, I did not do that the first time I took apart my intake assembly, as I never looked in the box after I removed the filters. Just a bit of advice.
  11. I was pretty sure they sold a semi-synthetic that is just that. Or at least that is what I always thought. Good to know. If a semi-synth oil is not synthetic and dino blend, what the hell is it?
  12. Nice to hear from you Klaus. I would love to meet up with you guys when I am in Vegas. The local info bit was more for Daytona. I am in Vegas quite often, and it always feels a bit like home. I will be staying at the RIV and the MGM while I am in town. I will have a car, and my GPS, so I am good to go. I am also going to call a good friend of mine who is in Vegas too, I know him from another branded forum. He works for a bike dealership, and I am hoping he might be able to swing a bike for a day for me, so you never know, we might get to go for a ride! I hope we are able to hook up while I am there! What casino does Ron work for? Sonny
  13. Wish I was, but not. Just trying to get things in order for a proposed Daytona bike week trip. We are actually hoping to ride, but may have to trailer part way, then get er going the rest of the way. If any other Ontario members are thinking of going to bike week, get in touch with me, maybe a group trip?
  14. I am wondering how many members we have in Vegas or Daytona. I am a regular visitor in Vegas, and I am starting planning on a Daytona bike week visit. I would love to get the chance to meet some more members. If any of you would like to meet up, or would be willing to give me some local info, that would be great. I will be in Las Vegas November 6 - 13. Without bike however. I always have planned to ride in Vegas, but alas it has not happened as of yet. Hope to hear from someone! Sonny
  15. They really do look sharp. I plan on getting them next year, I think I already blew my whole accessory budget for this year. And having the bike painted over the winter, is going to cost me more $$$ I am also on the fence about which type to get, the smooth, or ball milled. Lots of nice pieces to be had that is for sure. The only thing I would be prepared for with your install, is the rubber gasket that seals the K&N filter to the airbox. Did you get new ones? They were permanently attached when you installed the K&N's, if you have to remove them, be careful. I think they are required for the filters to be effective. Just a thought. Sonny
  16. Well, as a frequent visitor to Vegas myself, I am there at least 3 times a year here is what I suggest. If you are a gambler, and play decent limits, most casinos should comp your room and food, I can't remember the last time I paid for food or lodging in Vegas. But if you are not interested in gambling, I suggest staying downtown, at the Plaza, or Binions, both very inexpensive. They are both older hotels, but recently re-done, and clean. Also, a much lower level of play, will earn you comps very quickly. Now, for show tickets, there is a place right on Freemont street, at the 4 queens casino, called tickets 4 tonight, they get all the unsold tickets for almost every show in Vegas, and they can be had for 50% off, the day of. Not sure about Blue Man group, but that show has been around for quite sometime, I would be surprised if they were selling out still. That is all the advice I can give ya. Good luck!
  17. Almost since I started riding, I have worn HD boots. I am on my 3rd and 4th pair right now. I just bought them both together at the end of August. I really like the sole, and sole material in the HD boots. What I find is, there is no slipping when you put your feet down at a light, and you happen to step in some oil. I guess the HD are designed for good traction, in an oily environment, hmmm I wonder why? All my HD boots have stood up very well over time, and after a proper break in period, are comfortable as all heck. I can fully reccommend them personally. And as a side note, if any Ontario members are looking for HD boots, I also suggest you make the trip to Double R leather in Erin Ontario. A beautiful ride, and they have the cheapest prices on HD boots anywhere I have seen, even on eBay sometimes. And as a bonus, if you do go there on your proper birthday, you get another 25% off. That is where I go every year on my B-day.
  18. I'm not sure you will get any unbiased opinion to your question, seeing as this is a venture forum. But I will say, that my goal has always been to get to a Gold Wing eventually. They are pretty expensive, but extremely well engineered. The GPS, ABS, fuel injection, tons of storage, heated seats and grips, and all the other standard accessories. The 6 cylinder engine, is so well balanced and placed, that the bike feels much smaller, than its size appears. But, I just hope if I do get a Gold wing, you guys will still have me as a member here!
  19. After 2 years of debating the same thing, I went with the RSTD. It is virtually the same bike, minus the rear box, fairing, audio and passenger area. It is also about $3000 less on average. What I lost in the rear box, I can make up with my luggage set up, luggage rack, and backrest. If you are going to be doing allot of long distance touring with a passenger, then the Venture might be your best bet, and worth the extra money. You really just have to decide what kind of riding you will be doing most of the time. And of course the look is important too. The RSTD easily converts to a boulevard cruiser by taking the backrest and windscreen off. Both detach and attach in less than 10 seconds, literally. If you add the luggage rack to the RSTD backrest, you can get great luggage solutions for the longest of trips. And both saddlebags can have liners as well, for weeks worth of clothing, and emergency needs. I know the struggle you are having, I was there once myself. I went with the RSTD, and have not regretted it.
  20. I can see your pics just fine, but I am not sure why you put up pictures of 3 little red X's? Must be an inside joke.
  21. Wow, that is some funny stuff!
  22. yeah, I really like the look of that bike too. I am serious! And it is a good value as well. The bike I always wanted to get to, was the Gold Wing, but if the Vision keeps up, with the GPS, ABS and SRS Airbags in the future, then that might be the way I go. Another feature that I really liked on the vision, was demonstrated by the Victory dealer at Port Dover this year. He was standing beside a brand new vision talking to me about it, and out of nowhere, he says "watch this" and proceeded to push the bike completely over on it's side. I thought he was nuts. Then I realised, that they designed it to sit on 3 pivot points, and nothing at all touched the ground. Now I have never dropped any bike in my life, but that is a fantastic feature in my opinion. Takes the $500 sting out of the Opps factor on most bikes. I agree that it has a "unique" look, but let's face it, as motorcyclists, anything that gets em looking at us, is a good thing. We spend thousands on extra chrome and other pieces to make our machines stand out from the rest, this bike does it all on its own. Even if it is people standing around laughing at it, they are still looking. And to be honest, I would buy a bike for me, not for what others will think. If they don't like it, oh well [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or_JhhwCYrQ]YouTube - Victory Vision, Tip Over Protection, Victory Motorcycles[/ame][/url]
  23. I know there is one here somewhere. There is one on every forum! I have a strange request for some information. Now, this is not designed to start an oil debate, we all know how those can go. But I do need to find out, if Quaker State, or Pennzoil, have any oils that are compatible with the RSTD. What I mean is anything non-energy conserving, and without friction modifiers. Why specifically QS or Pennzoil? Well, a good friend of mine recently aquired a great job with the company, and can get me FREE OIL!! Whoo Hooo! Problem is, everything I see on the shelf from them, is SJ, or CF which means no good for me and the bike. Anyone here use either? I just need the item name or something to give to him, so he can have someone toss a case in his trunk for me. Thanks for any help. Sonny
  24. Wow! I do remember that. It was kinda hard to see you in the car, it was dark and you have tinted windows. But I saw the wave, at first I was not sure what you were trying to tell me. I had a new gas tank put on, as mine was a bit rusty when I bought it. My bike was 2 years old, never even started, brand new. So all that time sitting without fuel caused a bit of rust. Yamaha warranteed a new tank. I asked them not to put the badges or warning stickers on, so I have those in a bag in my garage. Thanks for the input on my reflective stripes. Sonny
