  1. I am not sure that you could be right there, and not ride it. But if you want to hook up, that is great! But I do predict you will be carving the corners yourself. Just a hunch.
  2. Well hello all! I just want to start a thread regarding a trip that Dragerman, Rob and myself are planning, it is just in the initial stages of planning right now. We are headed to Deals Gap on Sept 21. Any and all members in the area, or on the way would be more than welcome to join us. This is a Monday to Friday. I think we want to avoid the weekend. And we are also planning on riding the Blue Ridge on the way back to Ontario. I have talked to a few people, and everyone has suggestions and routes, things to see and do. So here is the place to put them. I think all who are thinking of going, should meet up at some point to discuss the details. The trip will be informal, and unrushed. So, who's in? I know I talked to a few about it at Carls weeks back, so get on board, and let's get this show on the road! Literally!
  3. As I said earlier, I have known the artist for many years. His work is fantastic, I gave him general ideas and themes. Showed him some pictures and elements that I liked from other bikes and areas of art. The rest was up to him. I certainly did not want to stifle his creativity. And I am really glad that I didn't.
  4. Took your advice. Have a brand new Avon Venom-X on the back. Actually, I had ordered the tire weeks ago, the trip up to North Bay and back was about the end of that tire. Went to dragerman's place today, and got to work removing the rear wheel, of course we greased the splines before re-installing. On a side note, the MOLY 60 everyone talks about, seem to be in short supply up here, no one had it, so regular type grease will have to do. 15,000 KM and it was very close to the wear bars. New Avon on the rear, with dyna beads in it. Original tire on the front, also with dyna beads. Maybe it was just in my head, but the ride sure was nice and smooth on the way home. I did get a bit nervous, because 30 min from home, the skies opened up and let loose on me. Pulled over, donned my rain gear and trusted all the reviews of how nice Venoms are in the rain. I was concerned because they were brand brand new, about 20 miles on them at that point, barely scrubbed off the shine. But it was fine. The dynabeads seem to do the job though. 1 strange thing about mounting the tire, there is no "dot" on the venom-X for valve positioning. is that normal?
  5. Here are some more shots of different parts not posted in the forum yet.
  6. Yes he certainly is. He has been a great friend to me for many years. I really have no way to repay him for the amazing job he did. I did not pay him nearly what it was worth. The looks and comments are just amazing. Having a bike that stands out like this one does, is quite the feeling. I really enjoy it when people ask me about the bike, and walk around it, pointing things out to each other. I went on a nice ride the other day, and stopped at Tim Hortons for a coffee. I parked the bike near the window as I always do, so I can keep an eye on it. I was amazed at how many people coming in, detoured over to the bike to have a look, even those that did not walk to it, craned their necks to get a look. It made me feel good. I know the subject matter may not be for everyone, but for me it is a theme of life, good & evil, and more importantly the duality of man, and the choices we all face. But that is my personal taste, for others, they may just appreciate the fantastic artistic work that it is. And that is fine too. Thanks for the compliments, and comments. Sonny
  7. I am really glad that you guys like it. I hope you have a chance to see the album that I posted as well. It has lots of pics of the process, and the "during" shots. The marbled paint is a big hit with people that have seen it live so far. Hopefully you will all get a chance to see her up close someday. I am very happy with how it came out, certainly a 1 of a kind now. I am planning to take it to some bike nights in the area, and see what kind of response I get. Cheers, Sonny
  8. Well, a very long process has finally come to an end. My bike is home. I have tons of pictures, and I will post them here shortly. I did make a facebook album with 68 pics, and you should be able to see it here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=295689&id=612305200&l=7e099dd4fc if you are on facebook, feel free to add me. Please feel free to comment on the photos as well. If you have any problems seeing the album, let me know. I hope you like them. Before, after and during the process photos all there. Sonny
  9. Well, I am taking the train up to North Bay later today. The bike is finally all done. Any members in North Bay want to help us put it back together? I plan to ride her back home on Wednesday, and I will post many pictures of the final product. I am nervous and excited to see it. It has been over a month since I dropped it off. Pictures soon....
  10. I guess I will have to make the next one.
  11. Well, I am back from Vegas, had a fantastic time. Talked to the artist who is painting my bike, he says I am going to love it. All I know is he did some "REAAAAALLLLY" cool stuff with it. I asked him to take tons of pics during the paint process, which he says he did. I really have no idea what it is going to look like. As you can tell, I trust the guy. There is a bit of a delay, I was hoping to pick it up this weekend, but looks like 1 more week. I do not want to rush him so I am cool with it. I can't wait for the unveiling, the wait is the roughest part. Oh well, guess we will all have to wait a bit.
  12. I agree, the wait would have killed me too. So to take my mind off it, I am going to Las Vegas for 17 days over the WSOP. That should keep me occupied, and hopefully I can win some $$ to pay for the work being done!! I told my painter not to bother showing me any in progress shots, but I did ask him to photograph the entire process for me. He is as excited as I am, this is his first bike. I don't want to stifle his creativity. I will be happy with what he does, I am sure. As soon as I get the bike, there will be pics and video I am sure. The one thing I asked him to do for me, was to redesign the Yamaha tuning fork logo, into something tribal, and put it somewhere. When the bike is done, there will be nothing that says yamaha anymore, not that I want to hide what it is, but I love the "What the heck is that" look people give me. The tuning forks will be the only indicator of what it is. Some will get it, some won't. But I will enjoy watching them try to figure it out.
  13. That is called "marketing" I think....
  14. Hardest part of stipping the bike was the rear fender. There is a sub structure that the fender bolts into. At the front of the fender, near the back of the front seat area, there are 2 round frame points that actually pass through the fender, so even after it is fully loose, you can't remove it. It had us puzzled for a while but a few more beers, and we figured that we just keep taking bolts off of the back, until the sub structure dropped down, that freed up the rear fender.
  15. Well, here is the start of what I hope will be a great story. Actually the story began last year when I took delivery of my brand new (2006) RSTD. I had been on the fence for over a year, whether to go Venture, or RSTD. When I found an amazing deal on the bike, the choice was clear. I even was ok with the plain white color, as I knew I had plans for her. Many of you have commented on my custom skull helmet, which is in my profile pic. That helmet was done by a very good friend of mine from North Bay Ontario, about a 4.5 hour ride from me in Hamilton. Some of you may remember I had the chance to do a rain gear review, when I had to drive hom 4.5 hours in a downpour from there last year. Well, the time has come for the transformation to begin. I am going away to Las Vegas for 2 1/2 weeks, so the perfect time to get my bike up to the shop for paint. Again, they called for rain all day on Wed for my ride up. I got up early, donned my rain gear, and began to prepare for a crappy ride. The rain had not started yet, but the clouds were ominous. I set out, glad for every mile I got that was dry. The miles added up quickly. I stopped after an hour for gas and some food, still no rain, but it looked like it was ready to come down any time. I set out again, dry, and after 90 min, the sun came out, and it warmed right up. I had outrun the rain!! I talked to some friends back in the Hammer, and it was pouring. The joke was on me, I rode 2 1/2 hours in dry weather, wearing rain gear. Oh well, took off the gear, and the liner for my jacket, and set out for a very dry ride to my destination. Got to North Bay, dropped by to visit the guys, and arranged to meet up with them at the shop to start disassembly of the bike. 4 of us worked together and stripped the bike down. I discussed with the painter some ideas, but as we left it, I am just to be impressed when I pick it up. That is pretty much it, I am leaving it up to him. He is a good friend, and a great artist. This is his first motorcycle, although he is very well regarded for the many cars he has airbrushed over many years. I know what some of the elements he is putting on, but mostly it will be a surprise. Here are some pics of the process so far. I asked him to take pictures during the paint process, and I will add them to this thread when I get the bike back. I am very excited about this. My first bike was pretty much the same the day I sold it, as the day I bought it. This bike, will be a total transformation. Here are some pictures of my naked bike. Sonny
  16. Video says "Not available in your country due to copyright restrictions" apparently Canadians don't need humor.
  17. Wow, you guys sure take your "No Smoking" policy pretty seriously eh?
  18. Glad to help. When you are in your private messages section, to the right of the date and time stamp on the inbox view, you will see small white square boxes. Click those, and it will put a check mark in the box. Check all the messages you want to delete, then at the bottom, you will see "Selected Messages:" with a drop down menu. From here you can move the messages, delete them, mark them as read/unread. I reccomend downloading them all as a text file first. Takes up very little space, and keeps information you might need in the future handy. After you delete the messages from your inbox, make sure you go back and delete sent messages too. Good luck ,hope this helps. Sonny
  19. What do you mean "Was"? Did I miss something?
  20. I had a feel after Becky had a ride on the back of Dragerman's 2nd gen at Marcarl's, that one might be in your future. Congratulations buddy!! Now I understand what your PM to me meant!!! LOL, see you soon! Sonny
  21. I have never gotten anything from that address.
  22. I am glad I found this post. I was just about to order the VB from soutwest moto. I wanted to be sure which one I wanted. I knew the VB was higher speed rated, I equated that to a better tire. Thanks guys!! I do have one question though, has anyone had any experience with customer service from Southwest Moto? They have no phone number listed, no contact information at all, not even an available email. Can anyone shed some light, or recount experiences? I mean, if we get a bad tire, how do we get warranty? Sonny
  23. Is it bigger than this surprise from Marcarl's?... http://www.elitepoker.ca/images/caption1.jpg Now presenting.....CARONGO!!!
  24. Well, we won't miss it if we follow you I guess!! Quit wishing, start planning, then comes the doing! We figured in Sept, most of the tourists will be gone, weather will be spectacular still. Why not join us? It's 5 days, 120 hours out of your life, let's git 'er done!!
  25. Looks like there will be quite a few of us on this trip, 4 confirmed now plus 2 maybes from up here, and a bunch of "meet ya theres" Guess we should start figuring out the first meet to discuss the road trip.
