I hate paying paypals fees too, but, when you consider that the payment transaction is instantaneous and secure that the money is there it is much better than the wait time of snailmail to get the payment. Then the wait time of the payment method to clear the bank with the arbitrary banking rules on holding out of state checks and cashiers checks. After the frustration I have been through I will only accept paypal or Postal Money order. I can cash a postal money order at any post office with no hassle.

My honest opinion: I've been parting out a bike for the past year on ebay and by offering parts on this site by offering them to members and I must say it is a slow slow, labor intensive, and frustrating process. When you consider the time spent, dissassembly, parts testing and clean up, listing and advertising the parts, packageing and shipping parts for pennies on the dollar for what they should be worth. Here is what I've found out. Before I go further let me say how much I appreciate those on this site and through Ebay that have bought parts from me and you know who you are. Thank you very much. Plastic body parts, mirrors and the parts that are damaged when the bike falls over and move quickest and for the most money. But even though end up selling for a small fraction of what Yamaha sells the factory original parts. The next layer of parts that might sell are the things that fail or are hard to find as aftermarket replacement parts, such as, electrical components, starters,brake calipers, rotors. Here again they still don't bring much money. The motor and frame you might as well take to the scrap yard and sale for it's weight value in recycled metal. Complete engines often sale for $100.00 on ebay. 90% of the things I list on ebay don't get any bids and don't sell but you still pay the listing fees if the item sales or not. Ebay rule of thumb that I have noticed is , Anything that I am interested in buying will have multiple bidders competeting against me driving the price up, but, anything I'm trying to sell No bidders and Ebay is the only one getting paid. Even offering them to members on this and the other site, which you would think would be a good target market. It takes a lot of time answering pm and e-mails back and forth about parts, do you have, how do you troubleshoot remove and install a part, shipping and payment instructions, packageing, trips to the post office, then the banking hassel of trying to cash out of state checks. Then I hate to say 50% of the inquires from this site end up taking up a lot of my time while the person inquiring drags thier feet in actually sending the money and buying the part while they watch ebay and ends up sniping the part off ebay for next to nothing. When I started this a year ago, I was considering used parts on ebay as a home based business. I have averaged two to three hours a day trying to move parts for the past year and have maybe broke even on cost not counting my time spent on the project. Ad the inconvenience of having your yard, shop and rooms of the house cluttered with parts that are being staged for listing, packageing and shipping. All in all the biggest satisfaction has been being able to help out a fellow member when I could. But financial you would probably be better off collecting aluminum cans to recycle.

  5. Depending on what you find wrong I've got the parts you may need. Middle gears, U-joints and drive shaft. I just replaced my pumpkin the old one outward splines are worn but not shot. May get you by for a while.
  6. I get sporadic radio and CB usage that floats in and out. I also suspect that I'm not getting much range on my CB transmission and radio reception. I'm pretty sure it is the antenna cable/duplexer. does anyone have a good extra one for sale or trade.

  9. Just got back from the test ride on my latest monthly maintenance project on the 87 XVXZ1300 VR. New final drive gear pumpkin change out. No whinning or small slip when taking off from worn splines on the pumpkin hub. Finally got the brake system properly bleed. Nice to have rear brakes again. Replaced spring on rear brake switch........................Again this one should last. I guess its good for the brake light to come on when using the rear brakes. Replaced leaking fork seal. No more leaking fork oil opr messy clean up from oil all over the front end. Next a good bath and final assembly of lower fairings and right saddlebag. Then ready for N. Ga. M&E tomorrow.;
  10. That's exactly what i did and I've been all over the country bike camping. Hey down at Vogel you can camp by me and I'll give you a few motorcycle camping tips Ive learned through my vast experience. 1st thing is to go to Northern Handiman or Harbor Freight and buy one of those small trailer kits with highway rated tires (Not the one with the ballon tires) for about $150.00. Next find you one of those Car top plastic luggage carriers and bolt it to the top of the trailer. Now your a motorcycle camper and you just spent about $200 on your perfectly good trailer. Where others spend $3000 to $5000 on their fancy samcy trailers.

  12. I'm finally getting around to installing the new to me final drive pumpkin I snagged from Lonestarmedic and thought it would be wise to lube the shaft before sticking it in. Question is: How do you disconnect the shaft from the pumpkin end to lube it?

  15. I just checked out the pictures on the public profile. I wish I could take you up on your offer but it's not in the cards for me right now. However, for whoever does buy the bike. I have a set of saddlebags that will fit this bike, for sale and are already painted flat black to match the rest of the bike.
  16. I wasn't able to attend the MD this year........AGAIN. But I've been following all of the post. Looks like it was a great event and everyone had a good time. It just wasn't in the cards for me this year. Maybe next year. But, since hearing about the pond monsters from earlier MD events, I had sharpened my harpone and was ready just in case I could have made it. In all of the post, I haven't noticed any mention of the pond monsters and was curious if any did appear this year. If so was any pictures taken?
  17. Did you have time to put a Gaurdian Bell on the new bike. Sounds like you did. Glad your okay. Good luck with Insurance company and getting bike fixed back up.
  18. I'll say one thing about Harleys............. At least you can push them. I don't want to have to push my 87 VR anywhere that has more than a downhill grade.
  19. Here Here Well said, I have had similar experiences. There is nothing more enjoyable then smoking Harleys when you run across them.
  20. I just laugh at them while we're having to haul them out of the road or pick up their lost parts on the road or work on them at every rest stop on a group ride. If fact I am getting to the point where I don't even like to ride with Harleys because of how problematic they are or seem to be.
  21. George, Bike is running great Last week weekend did a 200 mile N. Ga. Mountain run Carbs seemed to straighten out a little and averaged about 37 miles per gallon a lot better then it was at 20 mpg. Float adjustment, diaphram needle mod, new spark plugs, Seafoam gas and Oil treatment made an marked improvement. I snagged a good final drive pumpkin from lonestarmedic (old one is working but iffy with worn splines on inner hub so I'm changing it out) and a new set of factory fork seals off ebay. Pumpkin swap and fork seals is next weeks project before N. Ga. M& E
  22. If you think that was something you need to get down here to Ga in August and do the Vogel/ Tail of the Dragon thing with us down here in the sunny south.
