Is there a place here that I can find out who is from Colorado? I would like to find some riding buddies for the upcoming riding season. I am in Denver. Dave

I'll be riding Western Colorado a bit over Labor Day Weekend! I'll leave Orem, Ut. Saturday morning, Provo Canyon to Heber, East through Wolfe Creek Pass and on to Vernal Utah where I'll meet up with a new friend & his wife, and we'll ride all the way around Flaming Gorge. I'll stay with them that night. Sunday morning I'll ride Dinosaur National Monument, Co., and then to Rangely, Co., where my uncle lives. I'll go to church with them, spend the rest of the day with them, and spend that night with them. Monday I'll ride South on 139 Lost Highway, Douglas Pass, & down to (through) Colorado National Monument (Past Fruita), through Grand Junction, SouthEast & then South on 65 through Mesa & to Cedaredge, U-turn back to I-70 East, North at Rifle up 13, & West on 64 near Meeker back to Rangely for the night. Tuesday I'll head back West through Vernal and go SouthWest at Duchesne through Indian Canyon to Helper, North West on Highway 6 through Soldiers Summit and on back home through Spanish Fork Canyon. I figure a little over 1100 ride miles. If anyone out there is interested in meeting up or riding part of the ride with me, email me at dougnrdn@gmail.com. Doug Nordin

Starting on Oct. 1st, Barb and I will be travelling with some friends, heading west from Illinois and ending up in Albuquerque in time for the Balloon Fiesta. Our daughter lives in Albuquerque, and we were out there last year for the Fiesta. We live in northern Illinois, and our friends live in the southern tip, so it'll probably be best for us to meet near St. Louis, and head west to Colorado Springs. I've already decided that I want to ride through Wolf Creek Pass (again), and then like C.W. Mcall says in the song, end up in downtown Pagosa Springs, and from there we'll travel down to Sante Fe, and into Albuquerque. Something else I'd like to do is to ride up Pikes Peak. Is this too late in the year to think of doing that on a bike, or is there a posibilty that the freshly paved road up will be snow free? Any other suggestions of things to do in south west Colorado? We went to Sante Fe & Los Alamos last year, but our friends have never stopped there, so that's a stop we'll take. Also in the plans are to ride south from Albuquerque and visit Roswell. Anybody know of anything else to see in New Mexico?? Frank D.

Watching the news and seeing all of those homes burning I hope it is not any of our members homes, and that all of this VR family is still, and will remain safe. I did look and there are several current members in Colorado Springs. :fingers-crossed-emo :fingers-crossed-emo :fingers-crossed-emo :fingers-crossed-emo

The wife and I just got back from 5 days in Colorado Springs - - what a fabulous part of the country. Unfortunately, we were saddened to witness the start of what is now a totally out of control wildfire just west of the city in an area called Waldo Canyon. We just got to the top of Pikes Peak on Saturday morning via the Cog Railway when the fire broke out, and it spread like crazy in just one hour. See the pics to see what I mean. Right after we got down to the bottom, they were closing just about everything in the entire area, including the Garden of the Gods which we really wanted to see. I definitely want to go back someday on the bikes, but when it's a little cooler - - it was 97 to 103 while we were there, and virtually no humidity and 30+ mph winds. the perfect storm for wildfires.

I went to the American Yamaha website this morning looking for any news regarding new bikes for 2012. As I suspected, not much there. They do have a schedule of demo days starting in Colorado on Sept 8/2011. You'd think they would have their new models to roll out at these events. Has anyone heard of when they may announce their new line-up? Ron:confused24:

Heading out in the morning for our 2700 mile trip from Colorado Springs to Chicago, then down Route 66 to NM then back up to Colorado Springs....with lots of stops along the way! If anyone would like to follow our progress, we are going to try to "blog" about it as we go...I've never really done a blog, so we will see how it works...Here's the link: http://mikeandkerrisjune2011motorcycletrip.blogspot.com/ :cool10:

I posted a CL link to this trailer in Colorado Springs, but thought I would put the pics here too. I've never seen a trailer like this before. If I were closer I'd go look just to see it in action.

Some of you may be having problems accessing the site. I have wasn't able to access it for a while either. I have spoken to our hosting company and it is NOT a problem with our actual site but a routing issue that they are working on. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. Apparently there is an issue with some routers somewhere along the Colorado border. Here is what I was told: We are experiencing a 20gbit DDoS attack and we are working to resolve the issue. You will be updated in this ticket when more information is known.

Any Colorado Springs Riders out there know where the best (and least expensive) place is to get my new tires mounted for my '06 RSV? Thanks!
-
Anyone live close to Colorado Springs that do their own tires? I'll need to put a new set on before the next riding season and would rather pay a member here to do it than the dealer or someone I don't know...If no one does their own, anyone got a suggestion for someone you've used that did a good job and didn't charge too much? thanks!

Anyone in the Colorado Springs/Denver area have recommendations for someone that can mount/balance tires and do other basic maintenance on my '06 RSV? I'm a new owner to this bike and haven't had to do too much on my v-star since I've been in this area...I hate the high prices of the dealer and would rather go to an experienced, smaller shop or something. Services I'm currently looking for (over the next couple of months): Replacing front tire Replacing kickstand 20,000 mile services Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

There are six of us heading from Windsor to Colorado on the 9th of Aug and intend to take 3 or 4 days getting there, we have 3 weeks to explore the state and would like to get some info on camp grounds in the N, central and SE. We will be doing the Northern rides, then down to the SE. There are a couple of camp grounds that seem pretty good, one around Dolores...Priest Gulch....and Durango...Riverside Resort& RV....any help or suggestions that anyone may have would be appreciated. I just got word that an old friend of mine is retiring from the Air Force in mid-October. I'm thinking about riding the bike (from San Antonio) to Colorado Springs. I'm concerned about the weather that time of the year. I realize it is not in the mountains, but I wonder what the temperatures typically run at that time of year. Appreciate any input.

Headed for Colorado in the morning. Going to get an early start and leave about 6:00am. Meeting 2 other couples and are headed west. Plan on staying over at Norton KS. Saturday night and on to Colorado Springs on Sunday. After that down to New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and back to Missouri. Should be a fun trip, hope to take lots of pictures. So if you see someone on a charcoal gray Venture "I'm not lost, just not sure where I'm going" and I'm not late.

My wife and I are planning a ride to do some 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado this summer but I do not want to have my Venture give out on me nor overheat doing so. We love the bike and have riden the Blue Ridge Parkway without problem but, of course, they are not nearly as high as some of the roads in Colorado. We should live to never regret the experiences we have not had.

I've been out to Colorado several times and a few buddies and I are planning a trip this year. So far I've planned for the Ouray-Durango-Teleuride loop. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison loop (my personal favorite ride, maybe better than the Dragon!) and the Rocky Mtn National Park-Nederland-Blackhawk route. If we have time I'd like to do the Ridgeway-Gateway-Grand Junction ride. Does anyone have a favorite hidden route that is a don't miss? I've got several in Southern MO that people have no idea about that are terrific, so I'm sure there are some that I need to know in CO. Always looking for new pics!

Me & a buddy are going to meet in Raton, N.M. and travel to Durango, Gunnison, Georgetown, Idaho Springs, Colorado Springs, and then I'm heading home to Wichita Falls, Texas through Pueblo, Amarillo, etc. We have this trip planned to take about 8 days and to take our time. We will be going toward the end of June. Does anyone know of any "must-stop" places we need to eat at? I hear Colorado is lean on Mexican food.

Just recieved my new lift from larry and it works great! Thank you Larry for the quick response to my questions and fast shipping. Wish I would have ordered it a long time ago!! Thanks again Larry! I just had to post this. My wife and I are currently on vacation, riding the 99 RSV from Oklahoma, visiting our kids in Colorado. Well to make a long story even longer, we got as far as Fountain Colorado when I apparently got some air in my clutch line. No workie at all. Worked my way off the interstate and into a service station. I promise you I had not been there more than 3 minutes before another Venture Rider stopped and asked what the problem was, hopped off, grabbed his tool bag and went to work. Within 5 minutes, ANOTHER Venture Rider showed up and stopped to help. Looked like a convention. As luck would have it, we needed a tool that none of us had with us, so off he went back home and returned with all we needed. 30 minutes later and I am back on the road!!! So if anyone runs across Tim L. from Fountain Colorado, you just met a hell of a nice guy. I'm sorry I didn't get the name of the second rider, but my thanks go out to you too. You're never alone on a Venture.

Made it in last nite all safe and sound. All things being equal I would rather be on the road! Pulled an 800+ mile ride yesterday to get home. All said and done the trip was just over 4600 miles and we rode thru Colorado , Kansas , Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee , Mississippi, Alabama, Florida (where we stayed for a week), Georgia, Tenessee again, Kentucky (where we stayed for 2 days), Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, back thru Kansas and Colorado. We started in Ft. Collins, Co and spent the first nite in Blackwell, OK then made it to Jackson, MS the next day and from Jackson we made it to Boynton Beach, FL. Hung out on the beach for a week or so then boogied from Boynton Beach, FL to Perry, Georgia where we grabbed a pizza and a room. The next day we made it to Morganfield, KY and spend 2 days there. When we left there we pulled a short day because of some nasty rain and ended up in Sweet Springs, MO at Betty's Truckstop/Motel...you guys should take care to avoid this place because it SUCKS. I repeat Bettys Truckstop/Motel at exit 74 on I-70 in Missouri SUCKS steer clear of it. Anyway from there we made it to Ft. Collins the next day. Will post some pics soon.
