    Etching?

I'd like to get a US Army symbol and my police badge etched in my Yamaha Lower Wind vents. Anybody know anybody on here or have a good experience with anywhere that does this kind of work? Thanks!!
  2. It has been a month since I picked up my 02 Goldwing trike. I've ridden it 3,000 miles in that time and truly enjoy it. I'm waiting for a taller windshield to arrive which will help with the wind buffeting. This has been my biggest complaint. It has a stock windshield and I sit tall so this should remedy the problem. I also installed baker airwings and plan to get the wings for the mirrors. Sunday I rode 10 1/2 hours and was more tired from the wind as I rode interstate the whole way. It is so easy to ride and takes a ton of stress out of riding. I'm pleased with the purchase.
  3. Came across these items on E Bay if anyone is in the need...I know what these cost new....don't ask! Keith Lower Right Wind Guard # 160461326156 Fairing # 160461329518 Links wouldn't work for me
  4. Let me start off by saying I'm having a great time. The riding has been spectacular even today when I rode in 3 hours of rain. This being Independance Day long weekend, I have had my challeges getting a camping spot but it always worked out. Night two I was deperite after getting turned away from two camp sites. I saw a farm house that was storing trailers. So I did a door knock and introduced myself and asked if I could camp by the trailers. The man said sure and called his wife who said I could even use his shower outside in his workshop for $15. I thanked them very much and set up camp. I did have to clean the shower as I don't think it had been used in over 5 years. Cob webs and moths all over, but it worked great. So here is my story of my fourth night camping at a KOA in Goodland Kansas. Let me first say that this is a very clean and well kept facility. Well this is earlier then I would like to wake up without an alarm. Real bad storm. A few times I thought the wind was either going to lift the tent off the ground or break it into pieces. I was awake when I heard noises and people at 1am. I didn't know what they where doing. My pee jug was getting full from my second time. I cautiously open the tent a little to dump it out and the ground was covered in water. Only about an inch. The people that I heard where other tenters that got flooded or their tent torn apart. They got in their truck and spinning tires to get out. I laid in bed not able to go back to sleep. The rain was so hard but the tent was doing well. The wind was what concerned me. I was afraid the tent would get damaged and I wouldn't be able to close it. There goes the next 3.5 weeks I was thinking. My mind wasn't stopping should I cut my losses or tuff it out. A lull in the weather happened. *Good time to break camp I thought. Don't be a chicken I thought. So there I laid. The storm picked up again, eaqually as bad. I checked outside by unzipping the door a few inches. Now there was 2 inches of water all over the ground. It kept comming down and blowing so hard that I thought I may damage the tent trying to put it away. At 2:15am I checked outside and there was almost 3 inches of rain water on the ground. That was it, only an inch or two more and my changing area will be under water. I started to pack things up inside the trailer so when there was a lull in the weather I would be ready to spring into action. I made a mental list of what I needed to do outside to close the tent quickly and without damaging it. There I sat bed deflated belongings packed away and waiting. 2:30, the rain slowed right down and wind wasn't so strong and gusty. Like a lion saving their cubs I was out and moving. Lucky I had my boots the trailer skirting was all under water. The gravel road was covered. No hesitation I had to act to get this tent down and closed before another wind gust would come and rip it out of my hand. I kept seeing flash news reports of times past of bad things happening in trailer parks. Everything went smooth. The tent got put away safely. I put the cargo carrier on the picknic table as the water drains thru. What a relief. I may be a chicken and over reacted, but I kept thinking it could get worse and then where would I be. It's only sleep I'm missing out on by packing up. If the weather breaks in the morning I'll set it back up to dry and sleep. If I have to stay another night that's ok too. My tent us not broken. I'm a happy camper. I'll up date you all in the morning. Dave Sent from my iPhone
  5. Parts Shark do not have them anymore , clearview cost to much . anybody know where i can get one ? even a used one ? the wind is killing me , so i am going to try a full size one .
  6. We have a few glitches to work out, sorry if this has already been covered. We have a zumo, Q2 multiset, and a 2 iphones and our bikes are a rstd and 1100 v-star. We had no trouble pairing my Q2 with the zumo and then the iphone and the 2nd Q2 with my wifes iphone. If we're out on our own they work flawlessly, great reception to the zumo or phone, we're very pleased. When we're riding together Deb's is clear but can hear my stereo over the q2. Certain songs just have to be loud On my end I hear a lot of wind coming from her system. Enough that it prevents the system from going to standby. Deb's windshield is lower and doesn't have the same protection from the wind as I do. We need to lessen that effect?? Any suggestions? Next the zumo won't give voice commands to the headset when we're together and lastly after a stop and the zumo powers back up we can't talk bike to bike. By fluke we discovered if I try to make a phone call using the zumo and hang up, the intercom then works? We deactivated voice activation on Deb's q2 which allowed the systems to go to standby when there's a break in conversation. It would be nice to get the voice commands and lessen the wind buffeting. We have e-mailed cardo about the wind problem but haven't recieved a reply as of yet. Has anyone had any of these problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mark
  7. Ruffy - I've only had the wind wings for 6 months or so, hard to believe it took so long to get them mounted.
  8. I went and ordered the hitch for the scoot. I already did the thread on whether or not to use brakes on the trailer. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47141 Now I just need to design and build the trailer. I need to a lot of pricing out parts to see if it is more cost effective to build a trailer from scratch, or to start with something like a Harbor Freight trailer and modify from there. The box needs to be a minimum of 96 x 40 x 20. At this point in time I am thinking of making the box out of marine grade plywood with a one piece hinged lid. Maybe a sloped and/or V nose to help wind resistance. I am still concerned about side wind load in a strong cross wind. That is a big trailer for a bike but what I need to carry is not heavy, just big and fragile. I am open to ideas for the construction of this beast.
  9. Motorcyclist’s Prayer Lord, thank you for the open air, The feel of wind blowing through my hair; Just me alone upon my bike, The thrill of freedom’s what I like. To wind through country unexplored, Not knowing what I’ll see next, Lord; That’s what I seek when off I ride, I’m thankful that you’re by my side. If I should ride ‘til morning’s light, Please keep me safe throughout the night; And when I’ve come to journey’s end, It’s you I’ll thank – Protector, Friend. T.H.S.
  10. For those of you with a modular helmet AND headsets...any problems with radio or intercom because of wind noise? I've always worn a full face & just bought a set of HJC Symax II modular helmets. I knew modulars had more wind noise than a fullface, but after a test ride tonight in 20mph breeze, there's quite a bit more noise...so much in fact that I'm wondering if installing new J&M headsets is going to give decent results or be a waste of time. I'm guessing others out there are using a similar setup successfully but just wanted to verify while I can still return the helmets for refund if I choose.
  11. It was really windy here yesterday. I was riding home from work directly into a 30-40MPH head wind. This is the same route that I have driven every workday for the last 10 years so I know it well. I pulled up to a red light, on level ground, fairly new concrete surface. I was first in line at the light. With every wind gust the bike was pushed backwards and my feet on the ground (rubber soled shoes) did not have enough traction to hold the bike against the wind. I had to hold the front brake to keep from backing into the car behind me. This is with the wind blowing on the most aerodynamically clean side of the bike. After reading in several threads recently about parking in gear, and tales of the wind blowing over the bike, I am reformulating my beliefs as to how to safely park this thing. I can believe that with the bike parked with a strong tail wind that the faring and windscreen are acting like a parachute that the wind could move the bike forward enough to fold up the side stand. Parking in gear will/should help to prevent this from happening. I know that I once parked a manual transmission cage pointed up a hill and left it in first gear, and it was able to turn the engine over backwards while it chugged slowly down the hill. I do not know how much force it would take to move a bike while parked in gear but I am certain that it would be a lot more than in neutral.
  12. I am thinking of purchasing some lower wind vents (I am already feeling the heat)...and have only seen one picture of them installed....and the angle was from the front, which meant you could barely see the vents. Could someone post several angles of the vents from the back and also a closer view of the clamps. Thanks, Wally
  13. This passed friday morning, melody & I, packed up the bike & trailer, and headed south, on chrome aveune to 41 west. We crossed the everglades, trying to miss, the rain bands, that were, stream lining across I-75, at mid-morning. we caught a few rain drops at Chrome & 41, but most of our ride, was just over case., tempetures below the rain line, were like in the 70's, but once we got closer to the storms the temps dropped, quickly to the low 50's.. the ride across 41, was an easy cruise, at about 55-60. and most of the time, there were no cars behind us.. Upon entering the area of Marco Island, and turning to the north on 41, the winds started to pick up,, but still able to cruise at 60 mph. with in a few minutes of getting into Naples, the skys opened up, and the wind gusted from 45 to 60 mph, dropped us to a speed of just 20 mph. the vis was less then 10 feet at times. (melody comes over the intercom) Mike are we riding sideways?, No babe that the wind pushing us across the road, I reply......, every cage moved out of our way. we rode straight throw all the rain. I think this was the hardest rain we had ever seen, ( Like a fire hose, wide open on our heads) stopping only once, to let traffic pass us., we made our way out of Naples, the rains let up alittle, but we still rode the right lane, with the flashers on, and could only reach a speed of 40 mph. the winds beat the day lights out of us. (Melody knowing the area better then I) Informs me we have 40 miles to go. I'm thinking "Oh Joy".. Now about 1:30 pm, we stop for gas. inspect the bike & trailer, as we always do., top off, and into the rains and wind again., the roads, became more so bare, as we got closer to Ft. Myers, and we could see way. Trees down, water up and over most of the roads. the winds were hammering the area. we slowly made our way to the outter roads of Sanibel, (Thinking to myself how wonderful its going to be) the crossing of the bridges, this is going tobe horrorfying. ( I told Melody to hang on for her life) the bridge is covered with oil, from the cars, we may drop the bike, if i can't control it. what ever you do, hand onto the bike. and if I lean, to the right, lean with me. even if it scares you. so we prepare ourselfs going up the bridge, as the wind hammered the front of the bike, and slowed our accent to 3 mph, the oils from the car, made it fell just like ice. and the wind, pushed us, into the on comming line, briefly. as we crested the top.. I could see the trailer, sliding to the left, as we start our decent, into the wind, down the other side. the clutch out and in 2nd gear, we slowly made our way, down the 1st bridge. ( I felt like I was stairing the grime reeper dead in his face) the only thing keeping me going, was shear fear......., I pulled over, to regain my wits, and for a few seconds, (for me time, to relax, from the extreme stress). My arms, and back felt like I just got beat to a pulp. Melody comes over the intercom, Mike lets just get there. i cant feel my arms or hands I'm so cold. I'm freezing. We pull out into traffic, and head for the second bridge, this one alot lower, But just as windy, we crawled across this one, and the little flat bridge, the same way. when we hit the Island, most of the people were trying to leave. all the roads were flooded. and tree branches, all over the roads., they had just been hit hard, buy this storm. now, protected, from the winds, the cold creep up on me, and I finally felt the weather. I was soaked straight throw. as we made our way to the cottage on Captiva Island. my body was completely Numb. Melody, jumped off the bike, and headed for the room to jump in the shower, to get her body tempeture back up. she was shaking, un-controllable. while she was warming up in the shower. I un-loaded the trailer. & Bike, and turned the heater on in the room.. then followed suit. it rained all night. winds slowly dead downed after mid-night. The weather reports said, by 7 am Sanibel Island would have no clouds, with bright sunshine, and be about 70. as we returned in, I remeber thinking, "never again" will we ride in something like this. and made a packed with my wife. the following morning. That I will never to put her in danger, like that again. The next morning: To our surprise, it was 71 degrees, and the brightest blue skys, you've ever seen. It hert to look up. about 9 am we went to breakfast, then layed on the beach, conoe'd, bird watched, and did alittle shopping, and ate at fantasic eatery's. Sunday morning we, had a small breakfast., then had a fantasic lunch with some friends. and we headed home. we found the winds had picked up, as we rode I-75 south into Naple, But was grateful, we turned away from the winds, heading east, across the alley. It made it a pleasent trip home. (Melody) you ever notice, that when people get on the Alley, the seem to drive faster, like there afraid, their car is going to break down, while crossing here". and you know, its so true. the fear of being stranded...... I don't know, I like ridiing it all the time, but I enjoy my ride, 65-70, I don't see it as a barren waste land. our ride over on Friday 4.5 solid hours. our ride home 2.75 hours. Star Touring & Riding (Broward FL) Freemasons Riding Club (FL) Venture Riders (National) Hollywood Riding group (Broward) Patriot Guard Riders (PGR)

  16. BradT

    Doh

Never guess what I done, I sort of dropped Naugh-T's new bike. Took it off the trailer, started it up and brought it down to the sidewalk and put the kickstand down. As I walked away and about 10-20 seconds later I turned back and it starts to fall over. I know the kickstand is down all the way but maybe with the slight slope it rolled forward. It was scary I picked it up but only after the signal light smashes, a couple other sratches and a bunch in the wind shield. Extremely happy there are No scratches in the paint. Then I thought how scary it will be to tell Naugh-T , who took it much better than I would have. No pics. Brad
  17. I need thoughts "pro or amatuer" on a gps mount. I am thinking of the N-B238U standard mount on the plastic cowl, forward and to the left of the gas cap. a 3.5" arm N-B201U to get the unit up closer to the speedo and cass. player. I have the garmin nuvi 255w and i'm thinking this will help keep it out of the wind and weather. the steering should go lock to lock without it beeing in the way, i think. any thoughts please chime in, thanks. tired of getting lost......
  18. I thought one of our members made chrome wind deflectors. Did a quick search in classifieds but I can't seem to find it. Can you help me? Thanks Deb
  19. Greetings all. Public holiday Monday here in my state. Wife says to me yesterday, "Do you want to do a run to Orange tomorrow (125kms away) and do breakfast so I can check out some tiles?" (We're renovating, but who cares? Any excuse for a ride). Didn't have to ask me twice. Up at 6.30 and on the road by 7. Bee-u-tee-ful day. No traffic to speak of that time of the day and the temperature is around 15degC. We got to Orange around 8.20 (couple of stops on the way) and noticed a breeze starting to stir. Did the tile looking thing in the big hardware store (and bought myself some big-boys' toys in the tool shop) and walked back out to the bike. "Sheesh", says the boss. "That wind's picked up quite a bit". So we head off back home. The further we go the more windy it gets. By the time we got home after an hour of non-stop riding I was nackered. By my estimation we had an 80km/hr (50 mph) crosswind ALL THE WAY. Not funny, I can tell you. Every time we came out of a cutting we were blown sideways towards the on-coming traffic lane. I think I've worn the left sides of the tyres away from keeping the bike on a constant lean into the wind. You watch, as soon as the sun goes down the wind will disappear. Hate that. Oh well, back to work tomorrow. Probably ride. Can't be any worse that today was.
  20. Just thinking, my cell phone has a in-the-ear speaker/mic. I was wondering is anyone ever hear on these speaker/mics for motorcycle applications? It would seem to be to be the best way to talk without wind noise. Mark:250:
  21. When I bought my first 86 Ursula Gold on Black, I found a temp strip to stick to the bottom of my left mirror. Anyone know where to find those? Or is there something else? Actual road temp is impossible due to wind chill, but wind chill DOES give some warning before one runs into Colorado black ice. Now, don't let that discourage you from coming to CO. Today it was in the mid 50's and I putt in 55 miles in the foot hills of the CO eastern front. Thanks for the info from anyone. JackZ
  22. Well I completed my longest ride. I rode 765 miles each way on my trip to CMA's Changing of Colors Rally. It was a great ride other than the wind but my 99 RSV ran great!
  23. Sorry if this is using the wrong thread category, but I know I read on here somewhere that one of our members made wind reflectors for the knee area. I can't find it and if you know who it is, please let me know so I can contact them. I am really interested in a set. thanks Don
  24. I have seen the posts concerning the wind deflectors to keep the “breeze off the knees”. For whatever reason when my feet are on the floorboards this does not bother me. However, when I throw my feet op on my highway pegs I’ve created this wind tunnel which routes the wind straight up my legs and onto my upper body / face. At highway speeds it is pretty irritating for long stretches and I like to have my legs extended; I’m 6’5”. Will the deflectors reduce this wind as well? It seems as though they would not help this situation - but if you think they will work, though I’m not a big fan of the look, I’ll definitely try adding them. Second question: I am considering the taller – wider windshield because ..well I’m taller and wider. Has anyone had experience with these?
  25. Can someone please tell me who it is that sells the deflectors to keep the wind off the knees? Winter is coming and they could come in handy for those cold rides. Thanks....... Art
