  1. The wife and I can not get away for anytime to ourselves until the last week of October and we only have about 5 days. I need some suggestions as to where we can go. As some of you know, I live in the north central part of Tennessee. We are not sure if the weather will allow us to ride the bike or not (wife is not a cold weather lady). Any help would be appreciated.
  2. What a beautiful day! Riderduke, his wife, Kitesquid, his wife, KA Woodworth, Bugfish and I met and had lunch at Willey's BBQ in Westmoreland. Good stuff. Than we hooked up with Jrichard, stopped by a custom paint shop, did a little dreamin' and headed back to Fredericksburg for some Carl's Ice Cream. Old Rusty, his wife and Two Tone White joined us there. Mmmmm, the ice cream went down way to fast but oh so yummy! Bug and I had a little spit from good ol' Mother Nature on the way home. I hope everyone else stayed dry. Here's a few pics. My camera's batteries were dead so I settled for a couple shots with the cell. It was great to see everyone and also to meet more Venture riders. Lookin' forward to PA! Hope to see you all again soon. Wendy
  3. How do I begin to tell you how lucky I am to have you in my life? I'll start by saying what an honor it is for me to be your wife. You're my best friend in the good times and my rock in times of sorrow. You're the reason for sweet yesterdays and my promise for tomorrow. I never thought I could feel this loved until I became your wife. You made this year and every year the best one of my life. For you, I thank the Lord above You’ve given me hope, inspiration and truth Because of you I feel never-ending youth Each morning I wake and see your face I know in you, I’ve found my place Our bond is extraordinary, beautiful, and real It’s remarkable how wonderful you make me feel We belong together, you and I That, the world cannot deny Never in my life will I find another man Who could ever fulfill me the way you can I will love you forever in every way That will remain constant until my dying day. I love you! Bobbie P.S. Is that the smell of a freshly baked cherry pie?
  4. I saw a White bearded guy riding a GEN1 today on ST RD 44 on the west side of Deland. He had just come thru the intersection and waved at me and the wife on our 07 Blue/Black GEN 2 while waiting for a light to turn green.
  5. My wife of 39 years decided this week that it was time to go riding with me again and bought a helmet yesterday. Today I took her on a 3 hr ride out to the lake and twisties and stopped off to eat lunch. She says she enjoyed the ride and had a good time but was suprised how well the bike rode with us both. Personally I was not sure about this ride since I've only had the bike about a month and haven't ridden since 83. I was unsure how the bike would handle 2 up and if I was up to it considering all the chatter I have heard about this bike being "top heavy". To me other than the stop lights I think the bike handled better with my wife on it. Curves and slow turns were no problem 2 up. I believe I now have that back seat filled which is why I chose the RSV in the first place. WE are taking a trip next weekend and I am taking the bike so we can ride in the area. MY wife has already agreed to take a trip to Bandera TX from Houston (about 300 miles) for a weekend trip. Bandera is in the Texas Hill country and has a lot of twisties and great riding as well as an area called Lost Maples which is real nice in the fall. If your a newbie and considering a bike to do 2 up you cant miss with this bike. have a great day all jb :2cents::2cents:
  6. This time it's me. My passenger wife and I whacked a deer broadside at 55mph on Tuesday eve. My wife walked away and I got hauled in the ambulance on a backboard. A little roadrash on my hands and arms. Textile is NOT as good as leather. Helmets DO work. The worst of my injuries is that my back is sprained. CT scan showed no new injuries, just aggrivated old injuries. I firmly believe that the bike saved our lives. The rails did their job. We didn't get trapped on the bike. The deer sort of exploded. -- Rick
  7. I have a pair of J&M headsets (584s I think). Often times, when I plug in the lower cable, and turn the ignition switch to ON, I get a loud SQUEAL through the IC (no...it's not the wife)! Sometimes I get the squeal if my wife disconnects her lower before I turn the bike off. When cruising, I have to turn the IC up to > 15 in order to hear my wife (don't say it). Three questions: 1) Has / is anyone else expperiencing this annoying squeal? 2) What kinds of things should I check? Could it be an issue with the radio? 3) When I turn up the IC loud enough so I can hear my wife, I hear what appears to be alternator noise. Is this "normal"? Most times, the IC volume has to be 18 in order to be able to have a conversation. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  8. My 84 Venture left us stranded on the side of the road once to often. The wife told me to get an new bike. We purchased a 2008 Black Cherry over Raven RSV. The wife loves the comfort of the passenger seat. I do not hear any excessive chirp or whine from the bike. It will take a while to get used to the handling of the 08 over the 84. I have attached a picture of the bike.
  9. Met Eyehook yesterday when he and his wife came by the house. Turns out my wife knew him for about a year at work as they always talked about our dogs on break. The world dont get any smaller than that. He just purchased a 1986 Royale, Black and Uschi. Looks to be in excellent shape with 47k on the clock. Im sure he will post some pics soon. That was a hint, Larry.....
  10. I made it back safe. It was nice to meet a few people and it was a nice but hot ride over and back. It had to be quick, for both myself and my friend John. John's wife is in a nursing home and he travels quite a bit. He wanted to get back in time to spend some time with her before he leaves for a couple of weeks on Tuesday. I have Grandkids over this afternoon and tonight and my wife wanted me to be here to help. Looking fwd to the next one. Oh by the way the food was great.
  11. hey guys... haven"t been on in a while and thought i would give you a shout. i now have the time...the better half and i was out on a short ride when we started into a curve and the front wheel caught either a rock or road debrie. this caused us to go far into the other lane. i tried to get her as low as possible. the foot peg was dragging the pavement but it just wasn't enough. we left the road and was ok for a minute the front wheel hit a small hole hidden by the grass. the bike flipped to the left side and threw my wife off and flipped me over the sheild. i landed about 20 ft from the bike and my wife about 5 ft from it. needless to say we were carried to the hospital in an ambulance. we spent about 4 hours getting test done and thank god we were sent home the same day. wife has a large bruise on her leg and i have pulled mussles in my back. (when i landed it was on my back). still have trouble getting up and walking. pain meds seem to take the edge off. as far as the bike it gonna need a new fairing and a new saddle bag rail on the left side. first gens are sure tough though. no leaks and still purrs like a kitten. any one with extra parts that will fit a 91 let me know. take care everyone your fellow venturer steve:Avatars_Gee_George:
  12. A couple that I've known all of my life and are now passed on are having their estate auction next Saturday. One item that I've always wanted is on the list. http://www.helbergnussauction.com/auctions/reetz/reetz.htm My wife said no.

    I need to say "Thanks"

As I look back and remember what fun I had during our rally in Kitchener, it struck me that if I remember correctly......I made a booboo at our Wednesday night wrap-up dinner. I was thrown off my game after seeing Satan and Tinkerbell ( can you blame me? ) and the speech and thank-yous that I had prepared in my head that day all suddenly left me. Anyway....I know I asked "my crew"..."my posse"...."me peeps" to stand and be recognized but I think I neglected to actually introduce them by name, and for that I apologize and am sorry. As I said before, this event could not have happened without their hard work and so please forgive me for being so late with this. The committee that worked hard to make the 2008 International VentureRider Rally in Kitchener the event that it was, consisted of: Hal Lackenbauer - a.k.a. HALRSV99 and his lovely wife Gayle Al Johnson - a.k.a. King of Squirrels Carl Norg - a.k.a. Marcarl and his lovely wife Marca Wayne Higson - a.k.a Wizard 765 and his lovely wife Robin Darryl Barnes - a.k.a. Brick and his lovely wife Rhonda Dave - a.k.a. Swifty Brad Tuckett - a.k.a. BradT and his lovely wife, Rhona Tucket - a.k.a NaughT :clap2::clap2: Thank you all for your hard work.....and I apologize if I was a bit "testy" at times during our preparation.
  15. So, we were out riding yesterday, me on my Midnight and my wife on her Honda Reflex. She's been riding on public roads since last Tuesday after three sessions in a church parking lot, so she's very new to the whole thing. When we were approaching the end of a two-lane stretch, I pulled into the left lane to give her some protection from traffic coming from behind when I notice an SUV coming up at speed on the inside. We are already in the area where the center dotted line has gone and the road is narrowing. I speed up a little and ease to the middle of the road, again to protect my wife ahead and indicate to the SUV that there's no room for her to undertake and, guess what? She does it anyway! As she passes I notice it's a middle-aged woman of the "trophy wife" type, with a yappy dog on her lap. Not immediately sure if she completed the trifecta with a cellphone or not, but it's possible. She then proceeds to ride my wife's tail for about a mile, overtakes her in a turning lane then makes a right turn. It was then that the Sheriff's patrol car comes flying by with blues and twos going full pelt! I signaled to turn and we ended up in a church parking lot and the deputy was giving the SUV driver a lecture on how not to drive, especially when motorcycles are involved! It's the first time in 30+ years of driving that a cop has been in the right place at the right time!! She got off with a warning, but I wonder if people like this EVER thing of the stupidity of their actions and the fact that if there's a wreck, they'd be inconvenienced by a few days of collision repair while the motorcyclist will be either in the hospital or in the morgue, just because they had to get one car's length ahead!
  16. just a thank you to all at the Rally in Kitchener, my first...... hope it didn't show too much..... riding in formation!!! been riding for 40 years, and because of the remote location, usually alone or with 3 or 4 other riders..... never 60 bikes ( or there abouts). want to thank the organizers, and hope to see some of you again at the next one, the wife and I ( and the white Poodle) do not do well on long rides, but with enough notice ,we can arrange holidays and do it in 2 days or so.......BIKER JOHN51 or GRUMPY_BEAR
  17. On Monday July 7 2008, in Brantford Ontario a very good man I used to work with was riding with his wife...at about 3:30 pm their motorcycle met head-on with a pickup truck... Both Gary("tapper") and his wife perished instantly..., the truck driver is still in serious condition himself... Tapper was such a nice guy, only retired for 3 years... He will be missed...
  18. I saw 3 Ventures riding towards the east in Virginia in the rain last Thursday and was wondering who it was! The rigs where very nice, my wife saw the trailers and now she's got it on our "things to get" list. Kenw
  19. la went through st.louis mo. about 4:30 this afternoon. i was sound asleep but he talked to my wife for awhile. said he wanted to make springfield by dark. sure wish my wife would have woke me up. bill
  20. First decided to finally finish assembling my Piggybacker. Early afternoon I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Niagara135 (Steve) and his wife Cindy and had an enjoyable chat. After they left, I went back to the task at hand, only to be surprised a few minutes later by Big Tom and Tater, along with his friend Daryl (sp) and his wife whom we are embarrased to say we can't remember her name but were glad to meet the two of them. Got to swing a leg over a Valkrye and was thoroughly impressed with how low it is and how easy to balance. Me thinks I would like a touring version of one of those!! Anyways, after a nice visit by those 4 I actually got the Piggybacker in one piece, just a little bit more to do. Sure is nice to see something that looks like a trailer rather than three large pieces laying around! Weather was super, company was greatly appreciated, and I got something accomplished!!
  21. Hello I read a post from someone just as I was leaving with my wife to go up north before the weekend, but I can't find it now. There was a person from the Guelph area talking about riding into Toronto to see the Fireworks display at Ontario Place on Sat. July 5th, and asking if anyone wanted to join he and his wife. If you are out there, we may be able to meet up with you.
  22. My wife wrecked her 95 Yamaha Virago last Thursday and I need to find someplace where I can get some parts. It didn't hurt the bike too badly but it does need a few little parts. She was wearing all her gear so she's sore with no broken bones or road rash. TIA, Eddie
  23. where is a good place to take the camper and RSTD. for a week of riding. I would like to stay as close to home as possible due to fuel milage of the camper. the wife is not into highway traveling on the RSTD. North FL. or lower Ga. any ideas. thanks marty
  24. Yesterday morning around 7 AM I tried to call Bob to see how he was doing. At that time there was no answer. After I got to work I telephoned my wife and asked her to call Becky (Bob's wife) to see if everything was ok. A relative answered the phone and informed my wife that Bob went to the hospital early yesterday morning around 4 AM at which time he was to have some toes on his foot amputated as the infection in his foot that he has been battling took a turn for the worse. Evidently the doctor never told Bob not to eat breakfast before he came in...he did...and so the surgery got postponed to later yesterday afternoon. My wife and I were planning on going down to his house after work today but when I got into work they changed my schedule from 8 to 4 pm to noon to 10 pm. Bob is at ECMC which stands for the Erie County Medical Center. I am sure he would love some cards and well wishes. If I can find his home address I will paste it here so you can send a card. In the meantime...I'm sure posting here would be great as well. Ok...here is Bob and Becky's home address...lets flood them both with our prayers...some posts here...and get some cards in the mail so that when he returns he has something to cheer him up. Robert & Rebecca Scharf 52 Aristo Terrace Arcade, NY 14009-9205 Just got off the phone with Becky...Bob had his surgery yesterday afternoon at 5 pm...surgery was done at 6 pm...doctor had to remove one toe (initially they thought maybe two)...he should be discharged and coming home this Monday if all continues to go well. My wife and I are going down to his house after church Sunday to put in their air conditioners so that will be one less thing they have to worry about. He currently is in room 703 and there is no telephone in his room. I told Becky to make up a to do list of other things that need to be done around the house and I would try to solicit some help from here to come to their home next Saturday June 14th to help in getting things done. She said there is not much to do...but come on guys...many hands will make for light work...so please consider this request. We can get the job done then maybe chip in for some pizza and wings and hang out with Bob and Becky to keep him in good spirits. I figure we could get there between 9 am and 10 am...and have all the work done by noon, 1 at the latest...and then have the rest of the day to hang out and enjoy one another. Please post here if you can come...Becky says there wll not be a lot to do...but lets get it done and have a party for and with Bob and Becky.
  25. I haven't posted a public thanks to my lovely wife Eileen for helping make Maintenance Day a success. I know that she had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed it but I also know that it was a lot of work for her. Here is a little story that I wanted to share with you. On Monday morning I decided that I had better get a long overdue hair cut. The lady who usually cuts my hair does not work on Monday so I told them that anybody would do. When I got there, I found that I was scheduled with a new girl. She was maybe 20 years old, and a cute young lady. She asked me if I had a nice weakend and I replied that I had and told her that I had a few friends over for a little get together. When she heard how many there were, she made a comment that I must have a wonderful wife and of course I replied that I do. She then asked me how long it took to clean up after everybody left. I told her that I really didn't know because I had gone for a ride on Sunday evening and when I got back home, my wife and son had everything cleaned up. She said "WOW...I would have been MAD". Then she said "well, I probably wouldn't have been made...I would have just used it to put a guilt trip on my husband for the next few months, I would have gotten a lot of use out of it". OK...now first of all..please understand that I surely didn't expect things to be cleaned up when I got home. I am usually very good about helping clean up around the house, especially after something like that. Eileen told me though that she felt I was too exhausted and she wanted me to rest and knew that I wouldn't unless she got it done before I got home. Anyway, I told the young lady "well...you are cute but you need to stay VERY CUTE if that is going to be your attitude". I said it in a laughing manner and she didn't take offense but laughed also. I asked if she was married and she said no. I asked how she became so wise in the manipulation of the male species and she told me that she learned from watching her mother. I said OH....OK...and how long have your mom and dad been married? To which she replied: "Oh...they are divorced now". hmmmm.....imagine that. Anyway, Eileen is wonderful about these things and I simply could not do it without her. Sam teased me about the "LIST" that Eileen provides me with and I fuss about that list. Sam pointed out that the list that women provide their men is not meant as orders but simply "guidance". I don't know about all of that but I do know that without Eileen and the "list", things would never get done. OH...and I also need to add my son Dylan to my thanks. He really worked hard this year helping us get ready. He was a trooper.
