  1. This might be of interest to some of the 1st gen owners. I have one coming. 4 1/2 hour DVD video of the rebuild of a 1200 Vmax engine. Engines are very similar to Ventures. Buy it now price of $16.95 including shipping. VMax V Max Yamaha 1200cc engine assy. reference video Search on item # 310201385666 if link doesn't work. Gary
  2. I was looking at a Vmax form and some fellow mentioned that there were V4 logo inserts available for the vmax for the Stator and Clutch covers. Mine are missing some chrome so I went and looked and I think they look cool. Now my question is...will they fit my 85 G1? Here is the link. they are at the bottom of the page under vmax engine enhancements page, sorry it wont let me link directly to it. http://www.exactrep.com/acatalog/index.html?http%3A//www.exactrep.com/acatalog/catalogbody.html&CatalogBody Brian
  3. Does the venture 1300 have a vmax engine? need to settle a bet
  4. Has anyone put Vmax wheels and tires on their VR? Is there any potential problems? Inquiring minds want to know . . . Thanks!
  5. You got to read this to believe it...............Only made one year......yep he is right the 83 was only made one year, then the 84 and so on and so on..............beautiful bike but way too much money............. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-VENTURE-XVZ12-TOURER-V4-Motor-RARE_W0QQitemZ170415783197QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item27ad927d1d#v4-33
  6. Just installed a new (only 67 miles on it) 2008 RSV differential in my 1998 VMax. I know it's popular to swap these ring and pinions back and forth between the two bikes. VMax owners want to lower rpms at freeway speeds and the Venture guys want more pull and to keep the revs up a bit. I didn't send mine off to RMS Sportmax for the gears to be swapped. The shock boss is already on the Venture differential, so it's easy to see where to drill the stepped and tapped hole (if you already have a VMax diff for a pattern. I just removed the shock mounting stud from my VMax diff., used the mic to measure all of the stud's shaft dimensions, thread size and depth, and machined me a hole and tapped the threads in the Venture housing. I installed the shock bolt and made a cover for the Venture's speedometer sensor hole. Took the bike out for a spin today and enjoyed the reduction in rpms at highway speed. Even though these engines don't really vibrate around 70-75mph, riding the VMax in that range now seems to be kinda relaxing. I think the rpms dropped about 500 or so, but am not sure. I can't really remember, but I think it used to turn 4000 at 65 mph and now turns about 4000 rpms at 75 mph. I may just drill a speedo sensor hole in the VMax diff and install that on my RSV just to see how the bike likes the lower gearing. That kinda stuff is what happens when my wife is remodeling the kitchen and I'm staying out of her way. I just pay the bills and head to the garage to "tinker a bit". Oh well, these are the kind of posts you get from me when I'm bored on nightshift. Rusty
  7. Its in french, I think. But you can skip ahead to 3:30 or so to see it on the road and eating crotch rovkets at the track. Test rider guy, looks to be clueless about exiting corners on a bike with this kind of power. 9. Was on a group ride this weekend and someone mentioned about a cheap mod we can do on the Venture to gain a couple hp. He said the Vmax is (or was) already setup like this. I don't remember the entire name but the last word was Ram. Something about tying the left 2 cylinders together and tying the right 2 cylinders together. Might be something as simple as taking a tube and connect to the spots where you connect the carbtune to. He said it works great in warm weather but will take longer for the engine to warm up in colder weather. Anyone heard of this? Not sure if I want to do this or not, but I would be interested in researching it at least.
  10. More redneck engineering questions for you guys. Actually, for anyone that may have tried to or done this. I need (want) a spare rear wheel for my '07 Venture. Even with used wheels I'm finding they are way expensive. But I can find VMax wheels for almost nothing. Looking at photos, OTHER THAN THE WHEEL STYLE, it LOOKS like the only difference is the rear brake rotor mounting is a different bolt circle diameter. So, for anyone that has tried it... will it work if I get a VMax rotor? Is the spacing correct? Or will I have to let the moths out of the wallet?
  11. I just bought an '89 with a Vmax rearend. 60mph=3800rpm (+/-). What would the RPM be for a stock rear? What do I need to change to put it back to stock (this is a touring bike afterall)? What year parts are interchangeable? Thanks Guys!
  12. I have a bad #2 cylinder on my 85 and can not find new pistons and rings. Will Vmax pistons and rings work in the venture motor? Vmax pistons and rings are still available from Yamaha but not the ones for the Venture. I have not asked this question at the local dealer I figured I could get a better answer here.
  13. Hello everyone, I spoke to a Yamaha Store shop foreman at the Toronto International Motorcycle Show about what is coming for the Venture in 2010. He said they are testing the new VMax motor in the Venture(slightly detuned to around 160hp) and if all goes well we could see it 2010 or at worst 2011. He also mentioned that there doesnt seem to be to many changes to the rest of the bike. They are also looking very closely at the Vmax to ensure the motor works without problems. Hope all goes well with the VMax!!!!!!!! Screaming Red:080402gudl_prv:

    2010 vmax

Just got an email from Star Motorcycle about the 2010 VMAX. They have it on the web site now. MSRP $19,500.
  15. Since official Informations about the 2010 VMAX showed up recently, in Fact the Bike seems to stay untouched with Exception of the Color(candy Red), Rumours about the 2011 Model leaked out somewhere ... I won't say anything else than ....
  16. I was on the yamaha site and seen that on august 9 on Jessy James is a dead man show jessy is going to ride the new VMAX. On the yamaha site there is a link if you go to the vmax section on the bottom left is a link telling about it. It said after jessy rode it he said it will be the bike he wants to ride. So on august 9 on spike TV check it out i know i will and also know others that like Mr.Max will also.
  17. I have a 1985 VR with the dreaded bad second gear. I want more power and a full functioning transmission. My idea is to replace my engine with one out of a Vmax. Has anyone made this swap?
  18. I have been thinking about changing the final drive on my 87'VR since I have owned it. The first VR I had an 86' had the VMAX rear in it and I loved that bike. The thing I didn't like about my 87'VR is the gearing seemed "tall", when I was in the "sweet spot" of the engine I was flying down the highway at 85 plus! I began my search for a new final drive in November of 2008. Here is where I give cudo's to Squeeze, that young man has forgotten more about Ventures, VMAXs and FJR1300s then I will EVER know. I looked at about a dozen low mileage VMAX final drives and I just didn't like the Idea of the shock mount stud sticking out the side of the pumpkin. Thats when Squeeze told me about the FJR1300 final drive. He said "the FJR final drive has the same gearing as the VMAX and it is a mono-shock rear just like my 87'VR, the best of both worlds! Well, needless to say there aren't to many people parting out their late model FJR1300's and when they do, they want a pretty penny for the final drive. Being laid off has given me a lot of time to work on my bike but very little extra money. I have been selling off some items on Ebay and putting together the many "Kits" you have seen in the Classifieds. Well, last week the scrimping and saving finally paid off, I found a FJR1300 final drive in pristine condition, with only 3500 miles on it. I wish I could say that the rest of the bike was in as great of condition as the final drive but it looked like the owner of this beautiful machine drove into a brick wall at 100MPH! Anyway, I got the final drive and have attached pics below of the disassembly and reassembly of the entire of my 87'VR. I used the Honda Moly 60 Paste on all of the splines and the Belray 80/90 for the gear oil. Smooth, quiet, and this final drive took my old 87'VR to a whole new level of performance. Take a moment and have a look at the pics, if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them. And once more, THANKS AGAIN SQEEZE, You Da' MAN! Earl
  19. what does it take to install a vmax drive to an 07 venture....can i just buy a complete assembly...or just a couple of gears......and how much is the cost for parts would the final 5th gear ratio with a vmax rear be higher or lower than the 4th gear ratio on a stock second gen i discovered on my recent trip that running my stock venture in 4th gear , even at 65-70 indicated ( uncorrected) , that my gas mileage varied only 1-2 mpg......and whenever i encountered an incline , the bike just pulled better, felt smoother, in 5th gear it always appears to be lugging...even though i know it isn't....which brings up my next question what is the engine rpm at 70 mph indicated (uncorrected) in 5th gear and 4th gear...stock 2nd gen..
  20. I recently purchased a First Gen. Parts Bike and was told by the owner he "thought" the final drive on this bike was from a VMAX. Does anyone know of a way I can tell if this is indeed a VMAX final drive? I have attached two pics below and the red arrow is pointing to what looks to be a mounting point for a rear shock. Could someone please help me?!?! Earl
  21. has anyone used any vmax parts to upgrade there performance of the venture engine? Looking for info on how too. cam, heads ?
  22. Hello everybody, I really want to put the Vmax gearing in my RSV... We do alot of 2up riding and tow a trailer... I feel the deeper gears will help alot. I just purchased a RSV Final drive on Ebay and last night I found some Vmax gears. Has anybody here actually installed Vmax gears in a RSV housing? I know there is a site that will do it... But I'm a do it yourself kind of guy. Any tips or info would be great. Service manual has also been ordered. all my parts should be here in a few days. I was thinking of doing a write up on the install. Thank you Reaney in NH

    VMAX rear end

Well I got my new Vmax rear end this last weekend, and installed it as well as a new clutch. What a difference the new rear gears make. I need to adjust the speed O healer, which I will do this next weekend, but WOW, I really like the mid range power difference from the old rear end gears. While I had the tire off, I went ahead and lubed up the hub according to the write up on the tech link. I don't know if the new rear gears or the lube made the difference but I don't have the awful wine any more. I have the more powerful stator comming this next week, and I will install it later this month. I talked to the guys at Blue Ridge sport max and they really seem to be some very nice folks. I paid the whole $600.00 for the new gears and sent them back my old rear end. The day he got my old rear gears he refunded me my $300.00 core charge. With the new stator I am planning on getting the full ensamble from warm gear. I already have the gloves, I just need the rest of the gear.
  24. There's a Guy selling his '09 Vmax with 300 mls on the Odo due to Loss of his Employment. I took this from another Forum. I don't know the Guy, but this could be a real Steal ...
  25. For the life of me I thought I seen a post somewhere where someone asked if a VMax center stand would fit on a RSTD or RSV. I can't find the post anywhere so I would like to ask this question once again. Would it? Dennis
