  1. Here's my dilemna...I purchased the Trunk spoiler for my 08 RSV (haven't installed it). The general feedback here is that the lights in the spoiler aren't all that bright. Then the thought hits me....LEDs! Has anyone done a mod to the spoiler that replaces the standard lights in the spoiler with some "super brite" LEDs? I'm willing spend a little $$ to get a flexible bright RED LED strip and work through the installation process. What kinds of things should I consider when I start down this path? Are the lights both running lights and brakes? Are there any special considerations for using LEDs in a dual-intensity situation like this? Or am I all wet here? Certainly don't want to lay down track if someone has already blazed a trail here!
  2. I have an 85 trunk that I want to put on my 84. I have the trunk and the bracket that holds it but I'm missing the bar that holds the antenna. Does anyone have one that will fit they'd be willing to part with? I was wondering if the Mk2 would be the same. 84 is shorter so won't reach past the edge of the trunk and is not attached the same way. Wayne
  3. Hi gang, would somebody go out to there garage ? *lol* I need a measurement from the back of the rear passenger seat to were it meets to the back of the speaker pods or trunk pod. PHOTO would be OK too! Thanks, Jeff
  4. So I get the new bike home Tuesday night. The wife and I take about a 5 mile ride to check it out. Pull up in the driveway, and notice one of the rear speakers aren't working.. BRAND NEW.. come on now... SO, I call the dealer the next morning, and of course, depends on how busy we are if we can get to it right away or not... UM... I just spent how much for what?!?!?! Got home last night and decided I'll look at it myself.. Pull the seats, and yep, sure enough, plain as day is a a connector with nothing plugged into it... I start looking around for the other end. It's up under the trunk, with the wire running between the trunk and the trunk bracket. You could tell exactly what happened... They put it together, couldn't get the connector pushed back through from between the bracket and the trunk, so said WTF.. it's only one speaker.. I ended up pulling the speaker pod loose, and it gave enough clearance to force the connector through... I also noticed that one of the connectors for one of the antennas wasn't routed correctly and placed in the holder for it.. and another wire laying loose that should have been run through a wire keeper.. SO.. I sorted it all out, put it all back together, and now I got sound all the way around, and no worries of wires rubbing from being in wrong places.. It sure makes me wonder what other problems I'm going to find from the dealer assembly though... If they do something like this with a brand new bike, I'll be damned if I'm going to trust my life to others when you have no ideas if they take shortcuts or not.. At least when I work on it, I know what was done.
  5. My father has a RSV 1999 and I just bought a wrecked 2000 RSV (starglide). I have it almost road ready (cant get my saddle bag open, going to try to get the pinch pin out, and need front fender, but is rideable.) He is over 50 and as well is my mother (they ride together frequently). I am 19 and my girl is 19 as well. We are planning to go on our first "big trip" as a family. I plan to leave my hometown (now Orono, ME) (UMO student) and head for Bar Harbor, Maine and hop on the Cat and blast across the ocean to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, then to halifax and then up to PEI (to look at a vet school for the girlfriend and check out the sights). Here are some questions i have for those who have been or know anything about the area. What are some good stops? roads? cities? events? or awesome highways. i hear there are highways that go along cliffs by the ocean. This to me would be freaking awesome. Also hotels? Main concern is a good ride on GOOD roads. Being from Maine, i am used to the ****iest of roads, cracks, ruts, and sand everywhere. So for those who have traveled you know what the best riding is. Curvy, hilly, smooth and wide (like my women).. So any help planning this trip would be great. Thanks again. Also looking for some parts.. radio switch (left handlebar peice), front fender. Pipes, dad had some nasty's, and they rusted in one season (cheap ass pipes) though they sounded awesome. Can anyone direct me to a link where the HD pipes are installed and a possible how to, and parts needed to complete this conversion. thank you since i took off my trunk (the top was broken) i have parts available off rear of bike trunk rack, trunk bottom, interior trunk pecies, trunk latches, cb, truck mounting rack, passenger back rest black, and basically everything attached to the trunk.
  6. I saw a very cool trunk fairing lightbar the other day. Wondered if anyone has any leads on who makes or sells them. I've attached a pic. Thanks.
  7. Will the trunk from an 86 VR fit on my 83? I like the style of the backrest better and was wondering if it's a straight swap.
  8. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE. I recently lost my cb antenna and Owen was kind enough to give me his. However, his antenna seems to have a different mount and I need to change the whole antenna instead of just the top half. I looked under the trunk and I can see the cable going into the cb box but how do I go about unplugging the cable as it seems to be up inside the box.? DO i need to uninstall the trunk or is there a way to lower the cb unit easily ETC? Thanks for assistance in advance. jb BTW I met Jesus yesterday in Houston Jesus the new Venture Rider in Houston that is. Seems he is a lurker here. He just got a new 2007 Venture in Janurary. Says he will start posting here this week. He is looking for a slightly shorter windshield for his 2007. He has a sweet ride.
  9. Does anyone have radiator cowlings [black midnight]......I noticed today I have a tennis ball size hole in left side. I also have a 2000 Venture trunk bottom new in Yamaha box [red] to trade or sell.
  10. Anyone know where I can get a set of these elusive liners for my '87?
  11. Anyone has any experience with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCLE-TRUNK-ROAD-V-ROYAL-STAR-VULCAN-C50-M109R-VTX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a1Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem270362274300QQitemZ270362274300QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Not sure if it is even worth it. I just like the light on the trunk. Could the regular passenger backrest be fitted on that? I don't like the one on it. Thanks
  12. Surfing through the custom dynamics site came across these gems for some easy mounting of rear brake/run and turn lights as options: http://www.customdynamics.com/integrated_led_light_bars.htm http://www.customdynamics.com/flex_led_array.htm I am going to try and mount these to my RSV trunk, and some to the bags and sides of the bike.
  13. Does anyone have a 2nd Gen Trunk with the backrest attached, which they are looking to get rid of? Let me know what it would cost me. Thanks, Bret
  14. Ok, y'all know the sad tale of me trying to get my bike painted and losing the parts. Now that I've got the new Gwing, I'm feeling better about asking for some help. Here's what I got back: front fender gas tank some side covers both saddle bags (bottoms only) trunk (bottom only) the dealer claims he has a fairing, but I haven't seen it. This means I need: a rear fender both right and left cowlings (I think that's what they're called) lids for saddle bags and trunk passenger back rest w/speakers and all of the hardware that goes along So, anyone got any of the above laying around?
  15. I posted this on the watering hole forum hoping more people would see it giving me a better chance for success, here goes again, a while back I saw a pic of a 1st gen with a padded sissy bar replacing the entire trunk setup and it also had leather saddlebags on it. Anyone remember seeing this bike? if so can ya help me find the thing again?! Thanks:detective:
  16. Has any one ever removed the rear trunk on there venture? just woundering what it would look like & how hard to remove it. Pics would be nice.
  17. Hey All, I have been a Venture Rider most of my life. Last year however, I purchased a Vulcan Nomad. I purchased a Venture Trunk off eBay and I need a few parts for it. Is there a resource for parts for these old trunks? Thanks! John
  18. I was looking at philmartin's illustration and the original bike he based it on- and really like the look of the rear trunk bib. Does anyone have a supplier for this leather rear bib? I would like to put one on my RSV.
  19. I'm ready to buy a trunk rack for my '06. Found the following and was wondering if that's a good place to get it & is the price good? http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20151/3/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/trunk-rack.aspx I recall a place being mentioned in some other post that is in the Seattle area that was apparently one of "the best" places to get such things but can't recall the name... anyone able to point me to it?
  20. Thanks again for the input on a trunk rack. I'm getting one. Now, what about bags for it. Had a trunk rack bag on my GW 1500 way back when but can't remember the brand. I'm looking at the Star model but wonder if anyone has something they like better. Any input appreciated.
  21. Hey people, as some of you know, I just purchased an '09 Venture. The dealer offered me a 20% discount on accessories so I went a little overboard on the items I wanted to dress up my ride. Thing is, when the quote came in, with installation included, the actual installation price was almost the same as the accessory price (eg. Trunk rack cost: $180. Installation: $135!!!). What I'd like to know is if there's various posts that explain installation techniques such as installing passing lamps, trunk wings, braided lines etc. I mean, step by step instructions to simplify my own installation. I dressed up my Silverado on my own but I'm not an expert, just a back yard type mechanic and any help would be appreciated. As usual, thanks in advance for all your help!........... Bluez
  22. I had a crack in the bottom of my trunk. Now it is a large crack with a chunk missing. I need to fix it or replace it. I was watching one on ebay but it sold for $190 plus shipping and it was the wrong color. Is there a cheaper way to get this fixed? Mine is burgundy (88 VR)
  23. I'm thinking of putting a luggage rack on my '09 RSV. Had one on a Goldwing 1500 and got a lot of use out of it. Any excessive reports of trunk lid cracking? Anyone know the weight limit on them? Tricks or tips? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  24. reading some biker site i came across theese pics of a roadstar with a 1st gen trunk odd he didnt go for a 2nd gen one looks like they got HD fenders too http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z146/woodco100/pict1842.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z146/woodco100/pict1845.jpg
  25. A little while ago, just after completing the install of a power-amp in the trunk, I got to wondering what it would look like to line the inside of the trunk and make it look like the inside of the trunk of a car. So, I asked a friend of mine who used to build custom speakers boxes if he had any old speaker-cloth sitting around. He did and he provided me with a few yards for this project. The attached pictures are the result. What do you think? Pete.
