1. Hello to all; I have just experienced some issues with the lower fairings and the travel trunk. The lower fairing left side (saddled up) is cracked at the point in which it mounts to the inner fairing cover / frame. As far as the travel trunk lid, the male latch mount on the left side (looking in from back) has cleanly separated and sheared off. I have read that these types of issues are covered under the five year warrantee. If so, is there a generic claim number to be used or is it a case by case basis? The local dealers by me are not very friendly when it comes to these warrantee issues. Nobody wants to be bothered. Can this be handled directly with Yamahahaha? Thanks for the info, when time avails:feedback:. Till next time, ride safe. Busta.
2. I have a trunk from an 83 or 84(I think. It's smaller than my 85 trunk) that I'd like to get rid of. It's got a crack on the right side of the lid, and it has been outside on my picnic table for a while now. Missing the lock, and I don't know what else hardware for mounting it. Free to whoever wants it, just pay shipping. I don't need it, I got it when I was trying to find all the parts for my 85. Let me know!!
3. Dano, Have a question for ya............................... You posted on a thread that BigHack started saying that off-set brackets can be made to move the trunk back 2 inches on a 1st Gen ------- can the same thing be done on a 2nd GEn (2007)?????????????? We have moved the bolts to the second set of holes, but I was wondering if it is SAFE to move the trunk back further????????? If I could sit back a little further my stiff right leg would be in a better position on the bike and I wouldn't have to alter the seats so much.
4. I am looking at a blue venture that has a trunk rack. I just dont like the look of a rack on the back. Is there anyone on here with a 2007 blue venture that would like a rack? Maybe we could work something out where we could exchange the whole trunk lid? Let me know. thanks.
5. Has anyone used this Kuryakyn trunk rack on a RSV? Model 7139 What about the mounting patern. DO you think it will get in the way of the hinges? http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/1750 Also, if anyone has an Yamaha OEM rack for sale (STR-4XY62-50-00) let me know.
6. I have a very nice '99 RSV, but I am getting the most annoying rattle and vibration from the area of the backrest, speaker housing or trunk that I cannot identify. I've tightened every bolt and screw I can find, lubed the trunk lid hinges, removed and reinstalled everything from the front seat on back to the trunk, and still cannot find the source. I've had my wife sit backward on the rear seat while we rode up and down the street to try to isolate it, but even she can't nail it down. The speakers work OK at all volumes, so I don't think it's them, unless it's inside the housing itself. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks.
7. I'm going to add a trunk rack to my '07 but I have a couple of questions. I know I'll get opinions across the board but that's ok. Those that have had both, would you recommend the factory Star rack or one from a GL1500 GoldWing? I see that ChromeWorld and Drag Specialties (same part I believe) have a GL1500 rack for about 1/2 the price of the factory rack... Is the quality any good or will I be POed about rust later on? Or any other issue? Any advice or opinions will be helpful. I'd rather get the right one the first time. Thanks!
8. Has Yamaha stopped making the trunk racks. Thay have been on backorder forever and I'm a little ticked off that I can't get one. (if someone has one, please email me at my "ToolmanRR" Yahoo email) I've seen the ones that are used on the Goldwing but I'm not too crazy about the pressure point the legs put upon the lid. Has anyone had issues with the Honda trunk rack breaking a lid? Does anyone else make a rack that will work on the RSV. (I won't use JC Whittney's rack) ToolmanRR (AZ)
9. Nope....not that rack. You guys, always one tracking it. Well now that you're here anyway I'm looking for a bigger trunk rack. The one that came on the bike is of unknown make or model to me and as I don't get to see any 1st Gens around here so I'm going to throw this out there. Mine is only 12" wide and 9" deep. It is mounted on a set of Z brackets to the truck to raise it high enough to clear the backrest. The pattern I'd like to match for the mounting is 4" X 9 1/4" to use the existing holes and backing supports inside the trunk. If a larger one had longer support legs to give it some height that would work. If a larger rack had short legs or bolted into the frame of the rack as the current one does I could reuse the Z brackets and mount to a 4" X 11 1/4" pattern. I've got a trunk bag I'd like to be able to use but it's a bit wide for my rack. I'd be looking for something about 18" wide and maybe 12" deep but I could get by with 9" or 10" if needed. I've had not much luck on fleaBay for anything that might work so I'd thought I'd ask if anyone had a parts bike with a rack they aren't going to be using that might meet my needs. I'd buy outright or some horse trading for my old rack which is in very good condition. I'm open to any suggestions, advice or offers. Thanks Mike
10. I created this disaster myself, since I removed the lighted spoiler from the trunk, yesterday, to see if I could determine why 3 of the lights, in the strip, were not working. I couldn't see a way to repair the problem, so I put it back on, using loctite on the screws. After returning from a short ride today, of an hour or so, I saw the light strip dangling from the wires and the spoiler was gone. We back tracked the route with the car right away, but never found it. I loved the looks with that spoiler on the trunk, now it looks naked! I now need to get another one. If any of you know of any place that I can buy one, please let me know. The color is like Plum or purple, but what ever color that is available, I'm sure it can be painted. I need your help! Thanks, Owen.
11. About 1/3 of the lights are out in the trunk rear spoiler on my 04 midnight. Anyone know were I can order the diode strip without having to replace the whole thing?
12. Hello there Iam looking for a back trunk lens for my 1985 1200.It raps around the back of the trunk covering my brake lights. If any one has one or knows were I can get one with out spending $300.00 That would be great Thanks Stan
13. As I stated earlier this month I discovered the prior owner of my 99 RSV had busted out the bottom of the trunk and several of the screws had or were pulling throught the holes. Joe was kind enought to hook me up with an e-bay add for a replacement in the correct color ( got it for $200.00). It just arrived and I noticed some very fine hair line cracks on the bottom of this one also (but not all the way through. Joe also gave me a web site to get different fastners that have rubber and metal reinforcements (hope they work). I am worndering if I should put down a layer of epoxy or something to reinforce the bottom prior to instillation. Any thoughts would be welcome.
14. Lately, I have seen a couple 2nd Gens with the Fairing 'Whiskers' removed - I like the look. Are they just held on with double-sided tape? I already took the Yamaha label off the trunk, which came off okay, but the tape & glue were stubborn. I used a heat gun and WD-40. craigr
15. i opened the trunk yesterday and the tab thet goes into the latch was still in the latch. it some how broke off is there any way i can glue it ansd if so what kind of glue do i use and also do you think i might be able to use fiberglass resin to hold it better?
16. Just a quick question - do 1st gen trunks have a seal (?rubber?) around the "lip" of either the upper or lower part of the trunk?? I am not a "fair weather rider" therefore I do ride in the rain.......that being said water has found its way into my trunk and I'm having trouble trying to figure out where it's coming from. I can't see any obvious cracks or holes and it appears that the design of the lip around the trunk and lid may not require one but then again I don't know if I'm missing something or not. advise, comments, hints and suggestions all welcome Thanks Ed
17. Has any one moved the rear trunk back on a sec. gen looked in tec. section but could not find any thing on this. http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/confused-smiley-013.gif _________________
18. Saturday I rode up to T.W.O. in Suches, Ga. When I pulled in I pulled up next to, on first glance, looked like a very clean and pretty Blue on Blue 1st Gen MK2 Venture Royale. Naturelly I immediatly introduced myself and asked the rider his name and if he was a Venturerider member. He gave his name and said he had never heard of the venturerider group. As we were talking I was admiring his bike which for some reason I couldn't immediatly place didn't look right. The front end was a typical 87VR but the tail end trunk, saddlebags and crash bars was Goldwing rear end painted perfectly to match the color scheme of the factory blue on blue ventures. The reflector on the trunk said , YamaHonda Before he left I gave him a card and the web site address, I also invited him to Vogel since he didn't live that far a way. So maybe we'll get a chance to check this bike out later in more detail.
19. Taking a risk of this being a dumb question, but here goes. I am looking for a hard (not leather) travel trunk that will fit my 2005 RSTD. I have searched several threads and most of it relates to the venture. Will a Venture travel Trunk fit a RSTD? I have seen several places on the internet that sell travel trunks but nothing that is specific to my ride. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am not worried about the color because one of the guys I work with paints cars as a sideline, painting the trunk to match my colors would be easy for him to do.
20. Need some help. Anyone here know the difference between these 2 switches? I'm trying to install some LED lighting in my trunk so that when I open the trunk, the lights come on & when I close the trunk, the lights go out. Just testing the switches with the lights attached, I hooked up to my truck battery, but both switches turn the lights on & when the other side of the switch comes in contact, the lights don't go out. Regardless of the switch (open loop or closed loop), the lights are on whether in contact with the other half of the switch or not. What am I missing? Thanks.
21. Was wondering about people's experiences with routing the wire from the trunk to under the seat? Just had the dealer wire mine. The mechanic ran the wire over the inside top of the trunk came out the back of the top of the trunk behind the passenger backrest (drilled hole), dropped down under the passenger seat and then connected into the wiring under the seat. So, you can actually see the wire running from behind the passenger backrest to under the passenger seat (3-4" worth). It works, and I can secure the wire so it aligns with one of the seams, but IMO, it doesn't look all that great. Also, seems likely to have problems... with the lid going up/down, the wires are going to rub/flex with every opening (although, they are wrapped in electrical tape). I was thinking it may have been better to come out the bottom of the trunk, leaving enough loose wire to allow for the trunk opening/closing. Was wondering what others have done that may be better, or should I just live with it? It does add a lot of light on the back end, which is always good. Also, if anyone is intersted, the Raven color blends very well on my 07 Blue/Black RSV (you can't buy a blue light/spoiler). As always, thanks in advance for your thoughts. Bob
22. I unbolted the trunk on our "02" RSV thinking I would just move it back to another set of holes. The holes are there but when you move it back it sits on the rubber piece that is molded around the bottom of the trunk. Has anyone actually moved their trunk back on the second gen bikes? Bob
23. I know , I know ya think I am crazy . Anyways, I got this project finished today. I now can run both Odyssey Battery's at the same time or run one at a time with my Big Perko Switch! The Odyssey in the trunk is the 680 a little larger, I also am going to put my cell charger and some other stuff to power off of the trunk battery. I can charge both at the same time or one at a time. OR run BOTH at 12 volts at the same time now. I still have to put a rubber cover over the positive side input though. I also can use it as a back-up Battery as well Anyways here are the pics. Jeff (the thing behind the Perko Switch is my AMP that I installed about 3 years ago)
24. Rode my bike to work today and when I got to work, I couldn't get the trunk open but a few inches. It seems something went wrong with the trunk lid prop. I am now considering removing it. Has anyone removed the stock trunk lid prop and what did you replace it with...if anything?
25. I hope someone out there can tell me this. Will the trunk reflector from an 86 up 1st Gen fit an 85 trunk? They LOOK the same. Wayne
