  1. The wife is on a 50th reunion cruise down in Mexico. She left Saturday with Cabo being the first stop today. It looks like they're gonna get wet, but I told her to take the umbrella... It a good thing she's on NCL. If she does get stuck on the ship at least it'll be fun... http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/EP19/refresh/EP1909W5_NL_sm2+gif/023014W5_NL_sm.gif
  2. I was told that I should have 2 outlets on my 03 RSV I see the one in the inner fairing where is the second one? Or is there another one? Thanks
  3. I just replaced my old Metzler 880s and was told that I could expect approx, 8000 - 10,000 miles for a set of tires now days. The guy at the dealers jaw dropped when I told him that I had 16,000 on mine. Hence the question... how many miles do you average on a set of tires, and on what brand of tire?
  4. Does anyone here have any feedback - or have - an American Trike (that is the mfg. of the conversions kit). A friend of mine is looking at converting her V STAR 1100 over by using one of these conversion kits as she was told they could produce a kit for her, just not sure about that - and I had never heard of this manufacturer. www.americantrike.com Thanks in advance.
  5. I was at a local Dealer this past Saturday for a 'show and shine'. My 07 wasn't entered, I just went to look and for the free Hot dogs. Anyway, while in the parking lot at my bike, a couple guys with older Suzuki 750s commented on my shirt that had the 'Tail of the Dragon' logo on the back & asked if I had run the dragon. I said that I had last summer and that it is alot of fun. I also said that some people on here and others I have talked to have told me of other roads in that area that have even more twisties. We went on talking about the roads down there and I told them that after a few hours, I had to find an Interstate for some straight roads, so I could cover some distances. And that being from Nebraska, I'm not used to curves all day long. Then he said it.....'Well that big bike of yours isn't made to handle curves like that'. Well that did it!! I got all defensive and told him about while doing the dragon there was a crotch rocket we were following that wouldn't get out of my way, we had to pull over to give him time to get waaay ahead of us so we could play. (Of course, the crotch rocket HAD to be a novice rider, but I didn't tell them that). And how I could smell my front brakes, I was riding my bike so hard! In my younger days, I would've challenged them to a road race Of course this ended the conversation. They casually went back to talking amongst themselves. Probably thinking I was full of 'IT'. My wife just stood there grinning at me like 'you old fool'. As I look back, It was like they were calling one of my kids ugly. I guess I have finally become attached to this machine. craigr
  6. So as you might know I just got my 03 RSV and it now has stock exhaust I wanted to get it a bit louder but not real loud. Has anyone do any type mod to there exhaust. I got a pair of Sampsom Fishtails with the bike but was told they are LOUD!!!!
  7. As I posted earlier, we took this week as vacation and planned to leave out Tuesday. But Sunday night, by breaker box in my house decided to short out. We called the insurance and they said to get an electrician to fix it. That worked out well with us getting a new box and a outside disconnect that was needed, but I was going to have to pay a $500 deductible. With all that was done, we did not have the inspection sign off and official power until about Friday noon. When the city inspector came over to sign it off, he took a good look at the box as he wanted to see if he could figure out what caused the meltdown. The main breaker was already off, but as he was pulling the rest of the breakers off, when he came to the one to the A/C-Heat pump, it was burned underneath, even though the outside looked fine. At that time I told him I had the system replaced 14 months ago due to a lighting strike. He then told me that they should have replaced my breaker box also as that was what actually caused the rest to finally meltdown. He also told me I should advise the insurance company of that and he would tell them that it should have been part of the original claim and the original deductible. I gave them, Farm Bureau, a call and they also think it should have been part of the 1st claim, so I may have saved the $500. With all this done, Laura and I decided to take off yesterday down into the mountains of South Carolina and do some riding and spend the night. So, it comes down to getting about a two day vacation, but we had a great time and rode some roads that made the Dragon look like an interstate, they were so curvy. Given there were some times we were in some very desolate areas and I have encountered some electrical glitches on my bike lately, the thought was there, but the bike ran absolutely perfect for over 400 miles and about a million curves. I have attached a couple if pics of the box and some waterfalls. RandyA That 1st waterfall has got a drop of 411 feet by the time it gets to the bottom. I did not try to hike down to get a better picture of the whole thing. The 2nd waterfall is actually two falls coming from seperate directions and meeting up together, part way down.
  8. I have bad hips, so my Venture is getting pretty tough, especially at intersections 2up. So, I have been thinking of going the trike way. I rode my first Trike yesterday, finally, after looking at them and asking about them for a year or so. First off, I stopped at one of the local HD dealers to look at their 'from the factory' trikes - they didn't have one. The salesman told me they sell them as fast as they come in. So, I went to a local shop that sells & installs several Trike kits. The guy was wonderfully helpful! He let me test drive one and said to take it for a half hour or so. 'Enjoy yourself'. So, my wife & I climbed on and took it down the street heading for the Interstate. - I didn't get that far. I just didn't feel very stable with the steering. My wife said that she felt like she was being thrown side to side. It was me trying to get used to the handling - NO Leaning and turning with the handlebars. The trike rode wonderful and I'm sure that one gets used to the handling, but for the 15 minutes I was on it, I didn't care for it. I only got the trike up to about 45ish, I didn't feel comfortable enough to go faster. So, I told the guy thanks for his time and letting me try one, but I will wait until I absolutely HAVE to have to either give up riding or get a trike. The guy said he understood, but assured me that if I took the bike for a longer ride, I would get comfortable with it. I just don't think I am ready to give up on my leaning yet. It's just my opinion, I am in no way meaning to bash trikes. They just aren't for me, (yet). craigr
  9. I have a Husqvarna 6 3/4 horse Self Propelled Lawn mower. It is loosing power bad and has no adjustment to speak of. But that is not storyWarden was tryingto mow with it and it kept dying. I told her it might be the plug and she said "No its probally made by Harley Davidson!!" Woman is learning!!!:rotfl:
  10. Doc said today I could park crutches as I could handle it. Shaking up all the hardware that was already there is causing me more pain now than anything. About like starting over with it. Everything has to grow into place. Asked him about work. Told him I needed to be able to take off and run to help other officers when I got there if necessary. He said never. More paperwork.
  11. A couple of weeks ago I called yamaha usa and asked the person that answered the phone when the 2010 models would be out. He said in november. I replied, why so late? He said, well october or november but don't hold me to it. I realized he didn't have a clue so I thanked him and hung up the phone. This afternoon I decided to call and see if I got a different rep. The guy that answered the phone answered, this is Al Harper can I help you. I was surprised and kind of stunned. Why? When I was having trouble with the rear diff on my bike Al Harper was the factory rep yamaha sent from Florida to look at my bike. The last time yamaha sent a factory rep it was Al and he was the guy that recommended honda moly 60 grease for the rear end. I also met Al one year at the star motorcycle exhibit in Daytona. So you can see why I was surprised. Al said he was on the road for 8 years with yamaha as a factory rep but was now in the office because yamaha wanted someone that had technical experience to talk to customers and he enjoyed being home every night. We had a good conversation and then he asked why I called. I asked him if he knew when the 2010's would be out. He asked why I asked that. I lied, forgive me, and told him I was interested in trading my 05 for a 2010 and that there was a lot of speculation there wouldn't be a venture in 2010. He said the 2010's would be introduced at the dealer meeting which is usually in september or october. He didn't know the exact date. He however thinks there will be a venture in 2010. He also said yamaha corporate employees are hoping for a re-designed venture with the new vmax engine, detuned of course, but he doubted that would happen this year. I mentioned the outdated cassette player and he said you don't know how many times we hear that and it has gotten to be a joke. He also said we tell yamaha about the cassette player every chance we get. I mentioned our web site and told him he needs to visit and he would get a lot of good feedback. I told him I personally doubted there would be a re-designed venture this year because of the expense to re-tool and sales are down. He said if yamaha is thinking about a new venture you can bet that yamaha has been working on it 3 or 4 years. He said it takes 3 or 4 years to design and test a new bike before bringing it to market. He said yamaha worked on the straoliner 4 years before it was introduced and they worked on the raider 3 years before it was introduced. Finally I told him when going on this site it was amazing to see the different responses people get from dealers regarding warranty and repairs. He said he had seen this over the years. He said some dealers are more knowledgeable than others but since the dealers are independent businesses yamaha can't do much. Well, this has been more useless info for you.
  12. Before leaving on vacation next week, today I changed the back tire. While I have it off, I intend on greasing the rear suspension linkage on my 89. I bought this bike last winter, and the previous owner told me that he was told that it had sat for quite a while. Makes sense, it only had 30Kmiles showing. Well, a lot of bolts that I never had any trouble with on my 83 (that I purchased new) I've had a devil of a time with the 89. This bike has a lot more rusted bolts than I figure it should have. It must have been stored in a mighty damp place. Anyway....I unbolted the rear links from the swing arm, pulled the bolt, snap ring, and loosened the pinch bolts from the rods that you're supposed to tap out towards the left side. Mine are siezed almost solid. If I hit the rear rod firmly with a hammer it moves a little. I really don't want to hit it that hard. I've soaked it with Kroil now, and it's soaking. I hope it frees up. Anybody else have this problem? Frank
  13. Saw a 1987 two tone brown VR in Pennsylvania today, but he didn't see me. It was your buddy Earl or Skydoc to some of you folks. And just for the record, I called him and told him about it!

  15. My son got his motorcycle license this weekend, I called my insurance company to put him on. They want to raise the cost 4 X ?? He has clean license ? Told him he can not drive it, as our state requires it to drive. Can anyone sugest a company (s)? Thanks!
  16. Guy at work just bought a new 2009 Harley Davidson Softail Custom. Was checking it out and it is an ok bike, seems kinda small and plain, but he really likes it so that is cool. Asked him if the dealer was hard to deal with on price and he told be that he got $1500 off of sticker, and I thought that was pretty good...until he told me he paid $19k OTD for it. I was in shock. $19k and it is bone stock, no shield, no bags nothing. Ouch. To each their own.
  17. My friend in the Hospital. This is the one who went down in april and was in a coma, [ame=http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34735]another biker down - VentureRider.Org[/ame] . He is now up and walking around without any assistance or aids. He is still in the brain trauma ward were every thing is dull and depressing, with locked doors and fenced in yards. He seem to think he is in prison and can,t understand what it is he did that got him there. His mother warned me that he may or may not know me but when I walked in and the orderly asked if he knew me, He said yes right away and told him my were I worked and what I did for a living. I spent 2 hours with him and other than him thinking he was in prison and does not remember the accident at all he for all intents seeemed to be 90% of his normal self. His spirits were high and we joked and laughed all the while. The only thing that never came up was motorcycle talk, and this guy lived and breathed motorcycles his whole life. The best part is that his progress continues to exceed the doctors expectations.

  19. Need some help. I have a 07 venture that leaks gas out of a tube that is on the left side by the kickstand. It does not do it all the time ,but when it does it leaves about a quarter size mark. I have had the floats change at the dealership, but it still does it. They told me that might just be a characteristic of the bike. What do you guys think Any suggestions or comment would be gratefull
  20. It is over........completely..... he was sentenced to 18 yrs......everything went smoothly. we had about 8 bikes and 4 cages go to court. I read my statement ...yes i made it through it... but i could hear my own voice shaking..i kept it together tho. dont know whether it was my statement that caused these things or not but after i read it some were in tears......and the judge was pissed......the prosecutors told me they had never seen him get pissed like that.......he reemed the perp a new you know what...all of us thought he was going to give him more years the way he contemplated it, but he stuck with the 18 and told the perp what a break he had been given by us agreeing to this..and when we were finished he said very meanly and angrily "get him out of here" afterwards the defense attorney came over and spoke to us and told us how devastated his family is also........he also had been told that we have done some yard work for them and snow plowing over the winter for his parents and he was simply shocked that we had done such a christian thing and he was impressed by our actions.....and sorry for what we've gone thru. Haylie just wanted to get out of there.... inthe middle of it all she turns to me and says " can i have afreezer bar when we get home?":rotf: she earned her baca hero patch today, she was tickled. my mind is still going in circles but the tension seems to have lessened. thank you everyone for bearing with me thru these months and supporting us and always having good advise for us. now we truly have cause to celebrate at the rally in a few weeks.......... so get registered.............sorry couldnt resist a shamless plug......
  21. I got misunderstood on here not long ago. But of course I still ain't backing up. Was talking to my Insurance Agent today to switch Insurances. When I told her that ANPAC ( MY Insurance) didn't seem too interested in fighting this she about hung up on me telling me she would call me back. She called me back minutes later and told me ANPAC was fighting it and thought they might get it turned around in my favor even without a Reconstion Expert. She said the rep handling it did not want to tell me something that could fall through. Very understandable. She said not to hold her to anything but gave me some hope. She could understand what I've been going through for over a month not knowing anything but that it looked like I was going to loose big time because of a Stupid Moron of a Law Enforcement Officer. ( Now I will make a bunch more mad) I am Law Emforcement myself hanging on to the bottom rung of that ladder as a Correctional Officer. Skid knows what I think of Sheriff's Dept. I think Skid is a outstanding Law Enforcement Officer but don't want to give him big head. Anyway the ANPAC rep told my agent that it was the worst accident report he had ever seen but there was a good chance they could turn it around anyway. My statement was very good. I'm used to writing them against jail-house lawyers. I have bumped heads with the Sheriff's Dept. several times. I think this was a chance to get back. I will be very glad to give them my opinion of using your office for personal gain. Didn't mean to write book but I may not have to shoot myself after all. Just kidding but this has really been working on me. Wish me luck.
  22. Just a warning, I tend to get wordy and detailed when it comes to this. So this might be long. I live in Indiana and have Verizon home service. We have 2 phone lines. My wifes work required it at the time and they paid for both. Her work recently said we only require one line and we will only pay for one line. We will use Line A for the primary (home) line and Line B for the secondary (work related) line. We thought great, we will drop the line A. So we called and it was confirmed at the end of May line A was disconnected. Line A was connected to 2 phones and 2 satallites. Line B was connected to just the work phone. Well we didn't thoroughly think it through as Line A is also connected to the satallite dishes which if not connected to a phone line charges us $10 (we have 2 receivers). What we were trying to accomplish at this point is reconnect Line A and then disconnect Line B. So we called back a few days later (this would be around the beginning of June). We were told it would be back on at midnight by the next day. Check the phone line, nothing. Ok, we will give it another day just in case. Checked the next day, nothing. Called Verizon and was told it would be on by midnight. Checked the next morning and nothing. In the mean time we are getting letters saying the phone line was connected. We are also getting voicemails asking for us to call them back to confirm we wanted the line connected. We have an order # and a confirmation #. Some people could not find the confirmation # or if they find it, they can't see any notes in regards to it. The same thing would happen when I gave them the order #. We would litterally call back everyday and sometimes at least twice in the same day. Everytime me or my wife would call in we would get different answers, sometimes different promises and promises broken. Sometimes a rep would read back to me the notes in their system (big mistake). Well they have recorded conversations that actually contradicts their notes and I asked on several occasions to have those recordings pulled (and of course they haven't been). They will tell you that phone calls are randomly recorded. This isn't true. I work in customer service. They are all recorded. Some get randomly pulled for quality review. A company isn't going to have some calls recorded. Just think if something were to go to court.... Company so and so, customer has all the documentation. Where is your documentation. Well the conversation didn't get recorded....That ain't gonna happen. A rep told me they would credit us for one day. ONE DAY. I don't think so. At that point we had been dealing with this issue for at least a week now. We do not have inside wire maintenance agreement which means if they do any work related to the wiring inside the house, they will charge $90 every 30 minutes. We were told by at least one rep (under recorded call) that any/all charges for repairs under line A and B would be waived. The connection fee would also be waived (found out later the rep noted for a $25 credit). Talked to another rep and they say Line A-no charges, Line B-charges unless if messing with Line A causes Line B to go out. After countless reps and supervisors in multiple depts....I would talk to a repair dept. rep who would say they have no authority to waive charges. Ok who does....so she sent me to her supervisor who also said they can't waive the charges. Then why did your rep say you could? supervisor said, billing dept can. Ok get me over there. billing dept is saying they have no authority to waive charges. WTF..... The problem with the line A after it they said it was reconnected was no dial tone and if you call into it, it would ring busy. This tells me whatever button they pushed at the office to reconnect it, they did not do it correctly as there was nothing wrong with the phones before we disconnected it. So after 2-3 weeks we finally got a tech out on Wednesday. He got it to where if you call, it would ring, but if you were to pick up the handset, no dial tone. He told my wife that he was going to mark his work order as completed and then for us to call Verizon to get inside wire maintenance and then tell them the phone line isn't working so it would be fixed for free. Some people can do that. We can't. Wife called Verizon back said it still is not working and she has to have a working line since uses it for work. The guy had left and I told my wife to check line B just in case. Sure enough it doesn't work which tells me the tech just switched the lines. Now at this point we have 2 non working lines. Another tech came out that day, confirmed the 1st tech did switch the lines. This tech fixed it to where we now have phone service on Line A on 3 phones (the jack for Line B actually has 2 ports so you can plug into Line A or B) but no satellite so it is partially fixed. He also gave us his supervisors phone # to call and talk about the wiring issues and related charges. This tech also said there is some bad wiring in the cat 5 wire. Whatever that means. Since that is inside the walls, we would have to charge you for it if we repair it, but no charges for what he did. A 3rd tech came out yesterday and said we came because we heard of the issues (sounds like they were just trying to help out). My wife said no because we don't agree to the charges (and were told by cust. reps there would not be any) So yesterday I called the tech supervisor. I don't know who this Jackhole think he is, but he was extremely rude. I do not take that so I gave it back. I have a call into his supervisor (who is supposed to call me back on Monday) because I will not tolerate anyone talking to me they way this guy did. I started talking to him about the situation. After only a couple minutes he said let me interuppt. He said he is familiar with the situation and he wanted for me to understand that they would charge for the repairs for any inside wiring. So I started asking questions since he was familiar with it. He said I don't know I have 125,000 customers. I asked if he thought (asking for his opinion) if the satellite company did the wiring. He said I don't know who wired the house. I didn't ask whether you knew or not, I asked if you thought the satellite company could be responsible for the supposedly bad wire. I do not believe it has anything to do with the wiring. The connections were just fine before they disconnected line A. He said what do you want me to do, go back to the office and look everything up. He said No I am not going to do that as he was at home. Well you said you were familiar with the situation. Either you are or you aren't. Which one is it? He reiterated again (very sternly) that anything related to the wiring they were going to charge us for it. I said they why when I call into Verizon they are telling me differently. He said, I don't know you probably just talked to some cust. service rep. I don't care if I talk to Obama. It is legally documented recordings. It if was said you are libel to do it. So at this point we are both hot. He said I told you I will personally be out tomorrow (better not be there when I am at home). I told him I didn't hear you say you would be at my house tomorrow. He said did you hear me this time. He also said did you hear me when I told you, you will be charged for fixing the wiring. I asked then why did someone come out to our house that day. He said I don't know, no one told me about it. I asked why is someone coming out on the 29th. I don't know....what do you want me to do about it. I have 125,000 customers. After a couple more minutes of this I finally said go ahead and come out. If there is anything that needs to be fixed related to the wiring then we will take it to the next step. He said consider it done. I was hot, very, very hot. I went out to mow the lawn to try and calm down. I couldn't do it. So I picked up the phone. The 1st person I spoke with at the Verizon office, I said I need to talk to the repair dept. No questions asked and got transferred. Next person. I don't want to talk to a supervisor. I want to talk to someone above the supervisor. Got the highest level management that I could (whatever level that was). I started going off that NO ONE EVER TALKS TO ME THAT WAY!!!!!. I explained the whole situation and what this Jacka$$ supervisor said. She agreed that they are professionals and he should not have acted that way. So I said she would contact his supervisor and he would call me today. I got a call today from that supervisors office stating he is out of the office and would call me on Monday. So the long and still never ending saga is still going on.
  23. what is the best tire for the money to put on 1st gen?, somebody told me the M E 880 is this a good buy? thanx.
  24. Speedometer hasn't worked for a couple of months so I tore into it this evening. The inner cable is broke. I got both ends out but it was still plugged just about where it had broke. I straightened out a close hanger but it wasn't long enough so I put the cable back in upside down so that the nipple on the end came down against the clog and then I used the close hanger to push it through and worked it back and forth until it moved freely. I doubt any stores have the cable in stock and I have the entire dash pulled apart to get the cable loose. I would like to put the cable back in before so that I don't have to tear apart again when the part arrives. I went to an auto parts store (Advance Auto Parts) to get a universal inner cable and the people never heard of them. I then went to another part store (Autozone) and after waiting for 10 minutes I told the counter guy what I wanted and he said that he had laid it out for ME when I called. I told him I hadn't called so he looked around and said he had no other ones. By now it was 8:45 and I never had time to go to another parts store before they all closed. After this long prologue the question is: has anyone ever used an after market auto universal inner cable before and if so, was there a particular model car? It's hot outside and if it wasn't for this I would be out riding. I sure don't want to wait a week or 10 days to get one from Yamaha. Anyone have any information? As usual, thanks in advance for any help, Dick
  25. Met a Venture rider on the Dragon Saturday. Told him about the site and I hope he finds it.
