  2. Discovered a slash on my left front tire on my SUV. It started leaking air as I arrived at work last night.Truck needed tires soon anyway so I went to the tire dealer. I had looked up the price online and set my appt there as well. Over 600 bucks. When I got the bill it was under 500 bucks with a mail in rebate as well. Took me a minute but I realized then that they pro rated my old set. That saved me over 100 bucks. It was a pleasent surprise.... Next week, the car!!!!

  4. Hello Everyone: As most of you know, our 05 RSTD was heavily smoke damaged about a year ago. While it was in the shop for restoration, I decided to have new tires installed. The PO had Metzler 880's on it. I did not do any research. I trusted my dealer to guide me. He installed Dunlop 404's. $611 total for tires and labor. We enjoyed 7,000 miles of two up riding last year. I noticed yesterday while installing new pipes that the rear tire is worn more than I expected. I am not unhappy. $300 for an entire season of fun is cheap entertainment. I guess I expected the tire to last more than one season?? I see by many other posts that 7-12K is the norm? I might be able to go another $2500 miles, but really do not want to risk it. What are your thoughts, experiences and suggestions on brand, size etc. I appreciate your input. I have read good things about E3's. Thanks in advance
  5. About to order a dunlop e3 from jake wilson . Do we get any discounts? and is this a good price? 160/80B-16 (80H) Dunlop Elite 3 Bias-Ply Touring Rear Motorcycle Tire Part# 1200490004 Our price: $164.99
  6. I picked up a spare rear rim to try a CT. Went searching today for a tire and it seems that the Kumhos have all dried up. What's the current "hot topic" tire that's available these days? About all I have seen would be the BFG in the right size. TIA, Iz
  7. http://mic.org/downloads/MIC_Tire_Guide_2011.pdf A worthwhile reading tire and maintenance guide. Nothing startling and new though.
  8. Good article on general tire questions. here
  9. looking for recommendations for tire pressure for the following set up Royal Star Venture Nexxan Car Tire on Rear Wheel Side Car setup Anyone with similar set up please respond
  10. I just installed a car tire on my motorbike (with a sidecar) and was looking for suggested tire pressure. The tire is a Nankang CX668 165/80 R15 87T BSW (AS). Anyone with this type of setup please respond Thanks
  11. I just changed the front tire on my 2000 RSV. It was not completely worn out, but it had a slight cupping if you looked closely. When in a steady state low speed turn, I got a little shake/wobble at the handlebars. I researched tire options on this site and decided to go with the MT90B16 "not recommended by Yamaha" option. I purchased the Dunlop Elite 3 in that size. Wow, freakin' wow. Shake is gone (cured by new tire, not necessarily the new size). But the improvement in feel is unfreakin' believable. I currently have a relatively new Dunlop 404 (less than 2K) in the stock size on the rear of the bike. I will put the matching Elite 3 on when it wears out. I know this is nothing new to the guys that have been on this site for a long time. But, if anyone is sitting on the fence about changing to a "not recommended" tire...I'm here to tell you.....JUMP!
  12. Has anyone tried this product? Its a tire sealant and balancer. http://www.ride-on.com/
  13. NOt very happy this afternoon. Today started out with me going to have my new Dunlop E3 rear installed on the Venture. Arrived at Cycle Nation about 9:45am. They quickly took my bike in to the service bay. I spoke to parts about a price match from Motorcycle Superstore and got $30 refunded. That's when the "Happy" feeling went south. Turns out that their warehouse sent the wrong size tire. That wouldn't be too bad, but service already removed my rear tire from the rim. So they gave me a ride home and I wait till the correct tire comes in to be installed. Hopefully by Wed. It's always something...
  14. I ordered E3 tires from Jake Wilson and they arrived yesterday. The rear tire has a date stamp of 1310 and the front is 3907. When I ordered the tires, I called and asked them to check the date codes for me. The lady I talked to assured me that the tires sell so fast that I souldn't have any problem with getting old tires because they rotate their stock. I'm planning on calling tomarrow to see about returning the front tire for a newer one. I remember reading a thread about this happening to someone else on the site. How should I handle the call to asure that I get a tire that is hopefully 2 years old or less?
  15. I need a new rear tire for my '07 RSV and want to try a CT. I want a 165/80/15 but the Kumho that everyone seems satisfied with is no longer available. Ponch dissed the Nexen and I respect that. That leaves a Nankang or maybe a Federal. Anyone with experience with a Nankang?? I really don't want to go with a 155 such as the BFG TA. My speedometer is off bad enough as it is. And, I don't want to run higher rpms for same speed. And, I don't want the bike lower. I already have leveling links to raise the rear!!! I've not seen many posts since the Kumhos became scarce. I even did some lurking on the darksiders.com forum and no help. What is the popular tire now? I want to get what the general consensus of the users on this forum think is the best CT tire for the RSV and give it a good shot. Your experienced comments are very much appreciated. Jim
  16. Well it is that time again. The Avon Venoms have 11,414 miles on them. I put them on new myself at 4,130 miles on the bike, bought bike new. I checked the bike after it started feeling kinda squirrely. A strange feeling, almost as if the axle where loose. I checked all the air as usual/tires/shocks/forks, and found no problem. So then I thought well maybe the rear tire is worse than I thought/previously checked it. So after checking it again this evening, tire must be replaced before any further riding. I had to lock it up once about a month ago, tractor trailer pulled out in front of me. So I think this could be the cause of the one bad wore spot/about 4 inches long. There is at least one other spot that is somewhat worn also. My question is this. Should I replace the front also at this mileage (11,414) ? The front tire is with in about 1/16 " of being down to the tread ware mark in the center. I love these Avon tires. I have always run the Dunlop tires on other bikes. This is the first time for me to change out a set of worn Avon Venoms. That is why I am wondering about the front tire. I checked some other threads and saw where some have gotten 14,000 miles out of a rear tire. I understand that, riding habits, where you live/road conditions and curves and hills makes a difference in the ware. As I said I am happy with the mileage. But I did not find anything suggesting the front tire change mileage. Should I replace the front also at this mileage (11,414) ? Where is the best deal on a rear Avon or both front and rear ? Also, what about the white walls ? Any issues with these ? Thanks everyone for your input. Fuzzy
  17. Looking for advice from sidecar owners as to recomendations for a front tire replacement on my RSV and Hannigan side car rig? I have heard mention installing a rear tire backwards on the front. just looking for more information before i make a decision thanks:confused07:
  18. Front tire: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/DSC02673.jpg Rear tire: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/DSC02674.jpg Both tires were replaced 7000 miles ago. I suppose it's time to replace them. Anyone wants the front tire the center still has plenty of tread left.
  19. Ran across this tool for $105.00 plus shipping while checking out some tire info. Looks to be well made. Anyone have any experience with it? http://www.marcparnes.com/Universal_Motorcycle_Wheel_Balancer.htm Andy
  20. On Dunlop's website they list the 404 as good for the 99-10 Royal Star Venture, but it is not listed for the 08 RSTD, so I asked then why I got this back as an answer. "Good morning Mike, Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunlop Motorcycle & ATV. The D404 original equipment tire is different from the after-market tire. The D404 original equipment tire is belted, the D404 after-market is not. The Elite 3 tires are belted and have a heavier load-carrying capacity" Really didn't answer My question but is it just me or does this make sense to anyone . A friend put 404's on his 06 and has no problem at all .. Maybe Im over thinking it ?
  21. While heading along the 401 to Guelph a piece of metal came out from under a car. Despite my efforts to avoid it, my front tire caught the edge of that crazy bouncing piece of metal. I got off at HWY 6 and I pulled off to inspect my tire to make sure I had no major concerns. While inspecting my front tire two Harley riders pulled off the road to see if I needed any help. I thought that was real kind of them., and wanted to mention it given the negative comments they sometimes get.
  22. Getting ready for our first long distance trip to Tenn. in 3 weeks have read a lot of threads on tires an choices. V7 Goose has a bunch But anyway checked my tires on my new to me RSV still have good tread but front is Dunlop 404 an rear a Bridgestone something both have a date code of 09. The more i read the less uncomfortable I am with this set up been running zero air 2up since i have had. Thanks to info here I kinda know where to start on the air issue. One problem I thought was all me was a lil wallowing in the turns especially long sweepers cant seem to hold a continues line all the way through will out constant correction If i understand what I've read the air suspension an tires are the culprit an yes i check tire pressure an set according to owners Manuel. So now to my Question is combo. safe an will a new set of tires make me a better rider. I know a better gun won't make someone a better shot but can let them shoot up to there ability.
  23. I have decided to give it a go changing out my rear tire. I have the new tire and a jack, but no adapter. is there a way to jack up the bike without an adapter? Not trying to sound too stupid here, just wanted to make sure I don't get myself in a bind.... Thanks, Robert C.

    Tires

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in a tire marked front and one marked rear?
  25. I would like to try the Dyna Beads, however I would also like to use Ride On. I'm thinking that the two do not work well together. I've read Ride On also balances the tire also. I search on Ride On but no hits. So does anyone have an opinion on Ride On?
