  1. I was informed today that the VR engages the front brake when you hit the brake foot pedal. I had no idea this was so. The mechanic said the full bike brake rebuild is quite a hassle and will take him 8 hours. Does this sound reasonable to you guys or should I just dive in and do it myself? Thanks
  2. my wife likes the loud exhaust. used to have a 1500 suzuki intruder with shotgun drag pipes on it. the wife would like the venture to sound similar. any suggestions?
  3. I am new to this forum as well as the 2003 royal star venture that i just bought. I have searched all around this forum but haven't found the exact problem that i may be having. I say "may" because i'm not sure if this is the way this bike is supposed to sound and perform. This bike has 3200 miles on it and looks brand new so i picked it up for a deal. I am used to riding v-twins like my raider. I trailered this bike back home and I believe the previous owner hasen't ridden it for a few months. When I started it, it cranked right up and idled what sounded a bit rough but not bad, when i rev it while in neutral it sounds nice and smooth but throttle response is a bit bad. The real problem seems to be when the bike is under load, when i take off in first gear the smooth sound turns into a sort of a - putt putt putt putt sound like it may be missing, it also seems to surge a bit at the top of each gear. this thing seems to have very little power at top gear, when i twist the throttle at 60 mph it is slow to 70 or 80 mph, even if i downshift to 4th it makes noise but doesn't seem to go anywhere. I also get small backfires while downshifting and letting off of throttle, not bad, but i can hear them. I'm very accustomed to my raider which is very snappy at any gear, maybe its just me but there seems to be a problem.
  4. I've read a few other threads but none gave me the specific answer other than applying dielectric grease to the connectors (which I haven't yet tried). However, here's the problem .... Right front speaker - no sound Left front and both rear have sound No sound in right headset speakers, front or rear. Any ideas other than cleaning the connectors inside the fairing?
  5. Has anyone tried L.A. Chopper oval slip ons? I see they make them for the Venture and they look nice but I haven't seen any comments about them. Wonder what they sound like. They claim a deep rumble which is what I want.
  6. I saw links to aftermarket slip on and complete exhaust systems. There were sound clip links to listen to. Very interesting, but how about real world performace increases? Has anyone posted results besides sound of the different exhaust systems? HP/ Torque, driveability, heat issues, MPG impact, ease of install, etc.? Thanks. Steve
  7. picked up my new to me 2002 last night. put about 150 miles on it getting it home and wife's car back. when I have a passenger on back, with the extra weight I am hearing a very noticeable dry rub sound when the rear is bounced up and Down, at least when sitting still with engine off. any ideas, am I in for a monetary surprise or are their some grease points that may be in need? bike has 28000 miles on it. bob
  8. I posted this just after I got my 83 Venture royale last summer but couldn't remedy. Different year, same noise. If you saw the movie Dumb & Dumber, Jim carry's character asks," do you want to hear the most obnoxious sound ever?" Well mine is kind of like the sound he made. Like a prolonged chicken squawk. It starts at about 35 mph, it stops just as I come to a stop. It was really howling today (my second ride this year) so as I approached my house I pulled in the clutch and killed the motor. The noise again continued til I rolled to a stop. It is only one note no matter the engine speed or the ground speed. It does seem louder at times but that could be that the engine makes less noise at lower speed. I really like the bike except for this issue. I'm reluctant to spring for new tires and the starter clutch upgrade without knowing how serious this is. Thanks for any input. PS I can't imagine that the brakes could be the cause but tommorow I plan to pull the units off the wheel to make sure
  9. Does anybody know if I can link my DROID X through my sound system on my 2006 VRS?
  10. Commuting to work today about 65 mph with cruise control on and felt a slight hesitation and then a very loud squeal. Pulled over to the shoulder to check things out. Did not see anything abnormal. Got rolling again and when I started passing 40 MPH the sound came back again and the entire bike seemed to be very rough. Called a tow truck and had the bike dropped off at the shop. The shop could not find anything wrong. Anyone else ever experience this? I suspect the front brakes were binding or a bad bearing. Shop said the brakes and bearings were good. John in San Diego
  11. I have been working on my bike, got my cb working and radio working but I am unsure about the radio. Does this radio require an amp to get sound to the speakers? The radio comes to life and goes thru all the functions like it should but puts out no sound. I checked the speakers and they are in good condition. So my question is where is the amp if there is one, or what is it I might be doing wrong?
  12. Wanting to know if anyone has installed a MemphisShades batwing fairing on a RSTD (06) w/ the available Hogtunes sound system? Will it clear the speedometer?
  13. I'm not getting any sound out of my left side speakers. Haven't split the fairing yet but, you guys that have had the same problem, am I looking at a bad connection or is it likely a radio issue?
  14. I hate starting a new thread on an old topic, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I bought a set of Baron Nasty Boy 4-2-4 pipes for my RSTD last year and ran them for about 1/2 the season. Just about every thread I found out here says they sound great, but mine sound raspy and a lot like the glass packs I put on my old Mustang. I thought they came without glass. They also feel like there is more back pressure than my old Samsons (which sounded and performed much better). When I goose the throttle they are much slower to respond than my old Samsons did. Before re-chroming and putting the Samsons back on, anyone have a cure for me? PS How do I get the freakin' baffles out? They get stuck at the end of the pipe. Much thanks to anyone who can help out..
  15. I'm going to give Dynabeads a try when I put on my new rubber. Does any one know what the amount is that goes in each tire. What I've found so far is 1oz in the front and 2oz in the rear. Does this sound right.
  16. Just bought a 2009 Yamaha Royal Star. JYAVP04E39A015375 Has 3,000 miles on it. Need to know what it is exactly like what generation, what specific model, If when looking for parts I see "XVC1300", or "XVZ1300", is it a "Star" Royal venture, or Yamaha Royal venture, or what?? Sorry to sound so dumb but I fell in love RoyalStar Venture on bill of sale. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc29b3127ccefc0560aa75ce00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/
  17. Yesterday morning when I was waking up, I could hear this "beeping" sound. Definately not a sound that I'd normally hear and it was inconsistent. At first, I thought I was still dreaming as the sound seemed "far away". As I slowly woke up, I realized I wasn't dreaming so I got up and went looking for the source of the sound .... I found it in the garage. It was my GPS ... crap! I thought... why is that on?? I discovered, after running the scoot for a while on Sunday that I'd left the key on and in so doing, totally drained the battery. Crap!!! I'd just charged it all up the day before, now I have to do it again.... probably not a good thing for this 2 yr old battery... but we'll see.... For a while I couldn't figgure out how I'd managed to leave the key on .... then it dawned on me... I flipped it on after shutting the bike off to see if the fan was coming on and forgot to flip it off again .... DOH Last Friday, I forgot to put my bottom teef (teeth) in and didn't realize it until I was part way enroute to work. Now, this is not like me at all ... I'm a "spectacles testicles wallet watch" person ... (guess I better add "teef" to that... ) Other examples....I also find that I can't remember jokes anymore. I stumble when trying to remember names of actors I should never be forgetting. etc, etc The whole point of all of this is .... are the years finally catching up to me? .... is my mind starting to falter? .... am I losing my mind? aarrrrggghhhhhhhhhh.... I'm growing OLD!!! :crying: (dang, hope I don't have to buy a new ....... what??)
  18. for Riders that don't have music . What do you think ? http://www.easy-motorcycle.com/ruckus-50-audio-mp3-fm-radio-speaker-mirror-motorcycle-scotter-p-502.html?zenid=tiajvfjs364vbt6oh52hvqgah4
  19. Mrs. Yamadawg has a VTX 1300 Trike with the Motor Trike conversion and it has a windshield instead of the fairing. We would like to add a sound system and need some recommendations and watch outs. We are looking to do a permanent mount with radio and need ports for a MP3 player and future technologies. I would appreciate any input and ideas. Thanks! Don
  20. I'm not sure I have a fuel pump problem or not. I've had it down for a couple of days for some mods. Lowered the front forks and put in some Ponch gauges. I had the fairing completely off and back on. I started it and let it run to test the gauges and everything seemed to do just fine. I could hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when I turned the ignition on. Now after I put the fairing back on and finished up with everything I turn the ignition on and there is no fuel pump sound. It still starts and runs but I don't get any pump sound. Now here's the question......What's wrong with it? One more thing I have an 94 Road Star and I took the fuel pump off of it, some time ago, does anyone ever run RSV's without fuel pumps on a permanent basis?
  21. My wife drives an 2006 Malibu 4cyl auto. It is making a humming noise in the front end. I have rotated the tires, no change. jacked up and checked for any free play in both sides, nothing that i could feel. While still in the air with car in drive the noise is there and only changes with the speed of the wheels or vehicle speed. Don't think it is related to engine or trans cause the sound does not change with the rpm only wheel speed. The sound is not a clunking sound that I would think a bad cv joint but like the sound of big mud tires on a truck! Could it be a hub assembly going bad and not have any noticeable looseness? Any thought or help would be appreciated.
  22. Has anyone put BUB slip on mufflers on the RSTD. Was it easy install do they sound good , are you glad you did ?
  23. Here is a good one. When i start the Venture its sounds great. I drive off and within a very short distance I get this very loud sound that will only stop when I pull over or at the very least almost stop rolling. Then when I take off everything is fine! I can only describe the sound as " a sound a worn out drill would make???" I have tried to activate the starter when the noise was sounding but that did not seem to make any difference!! Any sugjestions? Thanks Ryan On a happier note! I was still driving the bike yesterday and plan to take it as far as I can into the winter months. I do have a goal of driving around each month! Doing so with safety in mind.
  24. We went to get a cup off coffee last night and on the way home I seemed to have picked up a new sound. Brenda describes it as a stuck leaf or something stuck somewhere that is flapping around and I concur that is seems like something is vibrating. Engine temp and voltage are good, tach is solid and the speedo has an occasional flutter around 55-65 (but the cable has been replaced by the shop last year and I know what a squealing speedo cable sounds like.). Brake disks were cold to the touch when we arrived home (it was in the 30's). The sound is not continuous and will vary in intensity, starting abruptly and fading out or vice versa. It does not appear to be speed or RPM related! I'm kinda stumped but am leaning towards checking the speedo cable or maybe an exhaust leak at the front header?? Any other ideas??
  25. Took my VR out for a ride today and noted that the fuel gauge, which had been down to 4 bars yesterday, was now showing full. In fact there was a bar where the "Full" usually resides. I had it up to 200 km (about 125 miles) with no change, then as I took a fairly sharp right hander at an intersection, it dropped down to 5 bars and the "Full" reappeared. Once I straightened up, it went back to about 6 bars. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this (Besides some prohibitively expensive part needing replacement.)? Oh yeah, also...I've not had previous experience with a VR before and do't know anyone with one around here. So...on deceleration, when it gets down to around 2,000 r.p.m., there's a sound coming from under the "Gas tank" that sounds like...well...slapping, popping. I know that's not the best description, but for now, it's all I have. It may be perfectly normal, but I've never had that particular sound on any bike I've owned before. And finally (Don't newbies get annoying after a while?), when I start it up (Hot or cold) the motor spins a couple of revs then seems to "hang" for a split second then starts. Again, does that sound normal? I'm really going to have to find someone with a MKII to do some comparing.
