  1. I don't often ride without a full face helmet and the radio blaring. The other day I grabbed my half helmet and headed out to the gas station. Therefore I have no idea if this is a new noise or not, but if i get rolling pretty good (15mph - + ), pull in the clutch close the throttle, I can hear a tapping, clicking sound in the front end. I got back home and had my wife help me look for nails... nuttin. calibers are good and tight, bike only has like 3K miles on it. I need to get it up on a lift and spin the tire, bottom line. I don't have the means to order one of Carbon1's lift adaptors at this time. Is there anything I can do with 2x4's or anything in the meantime until i can get an adaptor ordered from Carbon1? additional info: the ticking sound seems to be in synch with the tire rotation... speeds up and slows down with the speed of the tire rotation.
  2. Does anyone already run with Harley Davidson Take Off Mufflers, "Slash Cuts"? Are these obnoxiously loud or just a good deep throaty rumbler sound like a decent set of pipes should be, without getting you in trouble with the coppers and their db Sensors? I love the Venture but the girlie sound is too akin to a Geezer-Glide and I'd like to man it up some.. (Ok, too much coffee first thing this morning..) I've seen it advertised on eBay and the utoob clips sound OK but how can ya tell without being there eh? But the price is right.. Thanks in advance..
  3. These days I find that most products rarely come-up to what's advertised. But today I installed a Mix-It2, so that I could hear my satelite radio and the Garmin at the same time without an overall reduction in sound volume and quality, and without having to use a switch. Not only does this thing work as advertised but it has taken all static out of the system and improved the sound quality. And not just on the XM but overall! I am not generally easy to satisfy, so when I find a product that truly exceeds expectations I figure they deserve a little word of mouth advertising. www.mixitproducts.com
  4. When starting out slow or just rolling forward, I can hear what sounds like the slight sound of metal rubbing against metal. And as I get faster the sound gets faster. It's not real loud, but loud enough to know it's there. My brakes are good and I see nothing rubbing. And I can only hear it in my rt. ear coming from the rt side. Thanks.
  5. my radio on 05 venture dont have sound i could see the cassett playing radio changes stations , cb channels do scroll but no sound before dying it would work randomly .i checked the speekers wires do not have any voltage. i would like some advise. Thanks
  6. I am sure this has been discussed many times but I am new here and was getting cross eyed looking at all the posts. I would like to upgrade the quality of my sound system on the 04 venture. I have put some barons pipes on and obviously it hurt the stereo sound. I tried to use chatter box systems but they are terrible! I have read on the star web site about the speaker upgrades but I was wondering is it possible to add an amp as well. Any help would be much appreciated, I love this bike, I have had it almost two years and would have another in a heart beat. Sites like these are excellent thanks in advance. Java
  7. Thoughts on the best pipes to get for a more throaty sound? What are these slipons I get running across on the internet? I don't want a LOUD bike, but I do want a nice sounding, nice idling, can hear it when you get on it sound.
  8. Hey fellows, Just wondering if anyone might have experienced a rear wheel whine while leaning left at 80 Kmh (or 50mph)? It has been around for the last couple of years (at least 10,000 km) and I have not paid much attention to it. You can't really hear it below 80kmh or above 90kmh (55mph). It is just in that one speed zone and only when leaning left. Changing tire pressure does not seem to make any difference either. My gut feeling seems to think that the rear tire might the source of the sound. My Dunlop Elite II is about 40% worn and I can't remember if the sound was there when it was new or not. I am wondering if the cupping from wear is making it do this sound when leaned into the transition edge zone (Ie. between normal straight up running zone & the rarely used corner zone)? I can't remember if I read somewhere that the Firs Gen Venture rear wheel is slightly offset from the front (due to engine design, etc. - I could be wrong here) which could also accentuate the tire sound when leaning to one side more than the other. Another thought is that there may be a rear wheel bearing that might be showing some wear, but I don't have any experience with that on a Venture so I will have to throw it out to you all to see if you have had a similar experience . Thanks for looking, Dr. C.
  9. I put a set of Road King pipes on my 06 Royal Star Tour Deluxe and really like the different sound. I bought the pipes off of Ebay. I was going to drill them out but decided to just knock out the disk (plate) from the inlet side. Was a little work but not too bad. After installing them I wanted them a little louder so I driller 8 holes in the outlet end of each pipe and they sounded alot better. They turned out better than I thought they would. Fit perfect like the other trend said they would. I had to make a brkt for the back of the pipe to hold it up but wasn't a big deal. So if you want a lil more sound and want to experiment a bit I would suggest trying the RK pipes. I paid less than $30 for mine. I do have the stock ones complete to keep in case I want to put them back on if I trade the bike. Jerry
  10. I have a new venture and I was wondering if the baffles can be taken out of the pipes and if so how does it sound? I see on here about putting HD on them but if I can do something with mine and it not sound bad why not. Thanks for the info
  11. Am looking for suggestions for slip on exhaust for rsmv. Would like just a little move volume than stock with a deep sound. Know some people like the bub sleepers. Any suggestions and thoughts will help.
  12. I have the headsets from Yamaha. I know they are from JM but the sound quality is pretty poor. The only way I can hear the CB is to leave it on speaker. My wife is really getting tired of me asking her to repeat what she has said as the sound is distorted. Is there a better set of helmet speakers available that I can replace the ones that came with the set?
  13. The sound system on my 2007 Venture squeals when only the front headset is plugged in. When both front and rear are plugged in everything works fine. Tried switching helmets but still squeals. Worked fine up until today. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this would happen? Thanks in advance.
  14. I have a 2002 midnight Venture, I bought it used and put samson slip-ons on ti to get a better sound etc..I like the sound OK btu I' d like it to be a little louder and maybe more of a roar than a rumble(if that makes sense),Im thinking the Baron slip ons would be a good choice but don 't really have the cash right now.If anyone has a set of Barons that they might want to trade , I have the original mufflers as well as the Samsons, both in excellent condition. If you're interested let me know.
  15. My very first ride of the season. I'm just so buried with things to do around here that I just haven't had time to ride. With all the typical spring cleaning, painting, yard work around here and working on the site and trying to get the new server optimized...I've just been buried. So, this morning I got on the bike around 7:30 and went for a ride. WOW....I can't even start to tell you how much clearer my head is now. Folks, I really needed that little ride. Probably only did about 50 miles but it sure felt good. Here are some of my initial impressions of some recent changes I have made to the bike. Avon tires. So far, I love them. I have a very high opinion of the Michelin Commanders that I have been running but decided to try the Avons to see what all the fuss is about. It's way too soon to tell if I will stay with them over the Michelins but the initial impression is very good. The one and ONLY complaint I had with the Michelins were that they howl just a bit in the long sweeping curves. These Avons are very quiet at all times. Now if they do as well as the Michelins on wet roads and I get close to the same mileage out of them, I'll be sold. Speakers. I recently changed out my Pioneer speakers in the front with the Polk db401. I have to say that the Polks are a better speaker. Bass is just a bit better maybe but they just seem to have a cleaner sound overall. I'm not sure it's important now though because....... Headset. I tell you the truth. Since buying my RSV in 1999, I have always used the external speakers for music. The reason is simple. I've never found a headset that does justice to music. They all seemed a bit tinny to me, lacked depth and bass, just didn't sound good at all. I've tried several models of high end and low end J&Ms. For about the past 3 years, I've used AirRiders which were about $200.00 a set...still not impressed. So, I just continued to use the bike's speakers for music and have been through 3 sets of them. As I mentioned in another post, I finally risked wasting my money again and bought a set of Edset's. WOW...what a difference. For the first time in the 9 years that I've owned my bike, I finally prefer listening to the music through my headset. These have the best sound, best bass, best clarity of any headset that I have ever used. I had tried them in the garage after installing them and they sounded good but I've found that the others sound OK also when sitting in a garage. It's not until you get on the road that you can really judge them. I have now ridden with them at speeds up to about 90 MPH and I can tell you, in my opinion, these are the only ones that live up to expectations for a headset. PLUS...these things are only about 1/8 - 1/4" thick so are not even noticeable in your helmet. I often had to push on and re-arrange the others so that they didn't start hurting my ears. Other than that, I really enjoyed the ride except that the bike isn't running quiet right. I feel a bit of hesitation when I roll on the throttle and it just doesn't feel right in general. Maybe later today I'll check the carb sync and maybe even the plugs. It's OK and still a joy to ride but something isn't perfect. I'll figure that out when I have time.
  16. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at VentureRider, for you help, answers and recommendations, I just finish with my bike. I replaced the handle bars with the Flanders, new brake lines and cables, they work fantastic. At 5'7" now I do not have to reach forward anymore. I used the complete OEM grips assembly and they worked out perfectly. I replaced the OEM mufflers with a pair of Harley touring ones (without drilling anything out) I picked up on e-bay. I used the 31-9920 clamps and they are perfect. A friend manufactured the bracket out of aluminum and polished it too. Everything went on just as I have read here. Now I have the sound I was looking for. Yes here are the pictures. Thanks again everyone!! BTW thank you to also Don for your help as well as the site. I do not know of anyone other than another Venture Rider can tell that anything was done. Mission accomplished.
  17. Today When I Went To Start My Scoot, Turn Key On And Heard A Buzzing Sound Coming Down Around The Battery. After Searching For The Sound Found It To Be From The Starter Circuit Cut-off Relay. Locate Under The Right Hand Side Panel (little Blue Relay With Four Wires Into It). Went To My Dealer And He Pulled One Off Of A 08 Model (same Number On Part). When I Replaced The Relay The Buzzing Was Still There. This Relay Is Wired To The Kickstand Switch , Clutch Switch And Neutral Switch. Does Anyone Have A Idea On Where To Look Now. Cannot Find The Other Connectors To Disconnect The Three Switches One At A Time To See If I Can Isolate The Problem Causing The Buzzing Sound. Thanx For Your Info Horse
  18. Is there anything available? I have a few tapes to listen to but I have to upgrade to something better. You would think with such a great bike, someone would have invented a replacement for the old sound system. I have an iPhone and might try to integrate it in to the sound system somehow. That way I could use the phone and music features. I also saw that the unit says intercom but I have not found a place to plug in headsets. Am I missing something here? Has anyone come up with a way to replace the factory sound system with something a lot better? Any help is appreciated. 1984 Venture Royale 1200

    Bubs on the bike now

Got the Bubs mounted today, and also did the AIS plug. Runs good, no discernable lean spots in the fuel delivery. I have made no jetting or air intake changes at all. Mounting was fairly easy, and they sound pretty good. I had made some mods to the stock pipes, so there is not a huge difference in noise around town, at moderate speeds, but the Bubs do 'bark' a bit more on advancing throttle. They seem to radiate more sound to the sides, and have a slightly deeper 'runmbly' tone when idling. All in all, not too loud, just about right. Worth the bucks. I guess in a year, I'll give a report on those endcaps.
  20. Follow this link to see a good lookin 83 model on the way back from a PGR ride yesterday. The black-n-white bike in in several shots, too bad the quality and sound aren't better. http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa196/mharris88/080508%20Casey%20Escort/?action=view&current=080508CaseysEscort025.flv For anyone wondering, LCPL. Casey Casanova is home. She will be laid to rest Saturday 5/10/08.
  21. Just changed my windshield from a Show Chrome to a Large Clearview. Seems to have added some new sounds to the repertoire. The whine isn't as loud because the sound of the lifters seem to be chiming in. As far as the wind protection, it's much better.
  22. Several have ask for this so I finally got off my butt and did it, here is a video sound bite of the 4-2-4's on my bike, hope this helps. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2ydXDGhHZw]YouTube - Yamaha Royal Star Venture Baron's 4-2-4 Nasty Boys Exhaust[/ame] Camera credits to my 14 year old daughter!
  23. Had a old J&M headsets laying around. I cut the wires going to the helmet speakers and installed a female stereo audio jack, which hangs outside the helmet. I plug in my earbuds and jam them into my ears. Hook up my MP3 player into my audio system on the bike. Turn the audio system to headsets (HS) and hear nothing but classic rock and the rumbling of my V4 coming out of my baffleless HD Road King pipes. Man the sound is great and it makes you wonder how great this bike would be without the CHIRP. The sound quality of the CB is a lot better too.
  24. I have a very annoying sound when I tilt the bike left or right, after I reach 45mph or better, sounds like the wind is catching on something and making a deep sound, anybody got any ideas???
  25. I recently have purchased R/K mufflers and after asking some questions on this site and getting some great feedback I decided to put them on the bike to listen to how they sound. They are a much deeper tone than the stock mufflers however they are also quieter than the stock because the stock ones have had work done to them. I love the deep exhaust note that I get with the R/K mufflers but would like them to be much louder. Is there a way to remove some baffles without hurting the cans. As of now you can look down through the center of the mufflers with about a 1 to 1-1/2 inch hole straight through. However (what I am assuming are baffles) are around the hole and deadening the sound. Has anyone ever removed some or most of these successfully or will I create problems in the pipes or on the bike from this??? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Big Mike
