  1. Gunboat is the first to arrive in Kitchener for the Rally. It has offically started then. He is set up at camp site 427, so get on down and say hello. Hal:banana:
  2. Is there a problem with the chat area? When I click on it I get classified.
  3. I have had an on-going problem on our site with many pages not fully loading. The symptom is seen in several ways - sometimes the "time line" on the bottom of the browser gets almost to the end, then just sits there forever. Sometimes the status on the bottom actually changes to "Done", but the page below the header stays blank gray. In either of these situations, re-clicking on the link I used does absolutely nothing, but clicking on the refresh button almost always causes the page I was trying to get to to load properly. There does not seem to be any connection with what I was attempting to do - sometimes it is doing a search, sometimes trying to pull up a new thread, sometimes just going to the next page in a thread, and sometimes attempting to make a reply. This problem is not a slow response issue, as the page never finishes loading unless I hit refresh. This seems to have been going on since the last time Don made some fixes after the hosting change, and it ONLY happens to me on this site - never browsing anywhere else. I use XP and IE7. I turned off the Phishing filter in IE7, but it made no difference. The frequency is quite high and may be getting worse - seems like about 1 in 10 page requests on average, but I haven't actually tried to count them yet. I assumed for a long time it was wither my ISP, just normal Internet hiccups, or even my home network, but now I am sure it is specific to our site. Has anyone else been experiencing something like this? Goose
  4. A real nice guy from Charlotte NC bought my 05 RSTD. He is a fireman and he and his wife talked it over and decided the bike was for him. I am very happy that it is going to a good home. I told him about this site and sure hope that he joins us. I am going to miss the RSTD. I am working on the GW trying to make it as comfortable as the Tour Deluxe. I hope I am still welcome here.
  5. Good morning, all. My name is Nick Diaz, and I'm new to this board, as I'm buying a 1998 Venture Royale this week. I've enjoyed this site in the past week or so, in anticipation of Venture ownership. I'm 60 years old and have been riding for 38 years now, and look forward to many more on my beautiful white VR. For 35 years my bride and I have been living in Frederick County, MD, where good roads abound. I'm a middle-school mathematics teacher (I know, I know, "How can you stand those middle-school brats?") Answer: Someone has to do it... One of the things I do for fun is write a biweekly column for a local news and commentary webstie known as The Tentacle -- www.thetentacle.com . My topics are either math education or motorcycling; considering this site is not a "motorcycle" website, it's neat how I get a chance to "educate" the nonmotorcycling public, with a "contrarian" point of view. Somehow I find it difficult to write about education at this time of year -- I wonder why... My latest contribution just came out this morning. Go to the following: http://www.thetentacle.com/author.cfm?MyAuthor=52 , then click on "Enjoying What Life Brings on Two Wheels." (While you're at it, click on my brief bio at the top.) 6. Is there a frappr map, or similar, associated with this site? If so, how do I get to it? Thanks, Brian H
  7. Hey Don, over the past month or so I have been having an increasing number of LONG load times on pages here, sometimes it is clocked for several minutes, sometime it finally returns an error (usually a browser error). These happen at least two or three times every time I visit the site now. When these are happening, I can switch to another window or tab and access all other web sites perfectly, so it really doesn't seem to be my network or ISP. I haven't tried to run a trace route on the forum site yet, so it's possible it is a network bottleneck somewhere between North Texas and the hosting company. Just thought I'd post this here to see if others are seeing the same types of problems before I do anything else. Goose
  8. My son Josh and I are here at the outer banks camping for a few days and while riding around the campground what do I see??, an 2nd gen, couldn't find anyone home.Later in the evening I saw the scoot parked outside the camp store,a couple came out to the bike and I started talking to them, they're from Ohio, told them about the site and gave them a venturerider card, hopefully we'll see them here. Also here's a couple of pics,it's amazing how much stuff you can pack in these trailers.
  9. Found this store doing search for some stuff. Looks like supercheap store for Helmets and clothing, Does anybody have ordered from them and how good they are to deal with. Here is web site: http://www.jafrum.com/
  10. OK folks, I have had a number of requests from people who would like an easy way to donate to the support of VentureRider.org and also be reminded of such. Please understand that any support continues to and will ALWAYS be 100% optional. There are now a couple of ways you can help. In the left menu of the forum and the home page is a button that says "Subscribe". This is good for people who do not use PayPal as you can pay by credit card, bank account, or PayPal. It is a recurring $2.00 per month subscription plan. For PayPal users, there is also now a "Paid Subscriptions" option in the UserCP. Just click on UserCP and scroll down to Miscellaneous. You will see "Paid Subscriptions". You can the choose an option of monthly or yearly. At this time, you get nothing extra for helping support the site. Just please know that it is much appreciated. For those of you who have already donated due to the recent server change and even before that, thank you VERY much. You can't know how much it helped. I will also be sending out an email and HOPE that none of you consider it spam. As I said, this is in now way mandatory and whether you choose to help support the site monetarily or not, I am sincerely happy that you are a part of our group.

Well, my 07 RSV is gone - new owner rode it home today! Told him all about our site, so hopefully we'll see him on here soon. Time to put some more miles on QuickSilver! Goose
  12. OK folks, there are two actually two new moderators that I wish to announce. One has been a moderator for a while but I don't know if I ever officially announced it or not. Eck was made a moderator back when he started the VentureRider Parts Exchange Program. That give him the ability to edit and maintain that forum area and also to help out with any moderation duties site wide. I truly respect his dedication and efforts and am very happy to have him as a moderator. Today I have added one other moderator. Please welcome V7Goose as our latest victim. Kent has actually been added as an Administrator. How does this differ from a moderator? It gives Kent access to the templates and etc. that are used on the site which is where much of the custom programming and etc. takes place. Kent has a background in programming and some server management experience so can hopefully help when I am having any issues with database errors, server configurations, etc. In addition to that, he is on the site a lot and is always willing to help with any technical issues regarding the motorcycles and has a good head on his shoulders if any actual moderation duties are necessary. I hope you will join me in welcoming both of these gentlemen to our team. This site takes very little moderation and there are often weeks at a time where we don't even communicate with each other. These guys are here more to help our members with any questions about the site than they are to actually moderate so please feel free to contact any of them should you have a question. For those who may not even know, our Admins and Moderators at VentureRider.org are: Admins Freebird V7Goose Moderators Squidley Black Owl Buddyrich Eck
  13. But how many are ACTUALLY active. Sure looks like about 20 to 50. This SUCKS. I know Don wants to keep this free site, but it has gotten to be nuts. Believe me, I sent him a few bucks, so I can speak.
  14. My "new" 06RSV came with the stock pipes (that appear to have had the stage 1 mod done to drill some holes) and also with a set of Baron's Bag Slash pipes. The stock pipes are still a bit too mild, but the Barons are too loud for me. I've been reading on the site about people liking Bubs & RoadKing pipes...just wondering where they would fit sound wise compared to the 2 sets I already have. Ideally I'd like something in between the two sets I already have. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help...this site is great!
  15. I havnt seen this site discussed in here, so I thought I would share it just in case someone hasnt seen it. This site is called MapMyRun and you pick where youre going to run (in our case it is a mc run lol), put it on their maps and save it and its on a web page for everyone to see. You can put in turns and points of interest and even get everyone to run off a copy before you get to the start so everyone is aware of the route. It also can be used to plan a long distance run as well as local runs, and I understand that you could save it into google maps as well. Find it at www.mapmyrun.com Heres the link for the newbie ice cream run in Regina Saskatchewan. http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/canada/sk/regina/566211812621 Have fun!!! Brian :cool10:
  16. Anyone ever had a problem with their RSV leaning off center while on a Rivco Center Stand ? I checked the garage floor and it is level. My bike leans to the right wheather it is pulled in or backed in, so it's not the floor. I called Rivco and they are having me send it in to have it checked out... Everything looks straight under the bike, but my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. PS... This is an awesome site. I purchased an 07 blue/black RSV last Summer, and using the post on this site, I have set up, worked on and accessorized my bike to be one fine ride... Thanks to all !!!! 17. I have been using So. Seattle for parts cuz they were the cheapest... But my last shipment took over 3 weeks and included a couple of unanswered e-mails.. Their site was down yesterday and I did some poking around and heard of some grumbling that they might be in financial trouble... I don't want to start rumors here just watch out if you use them. Well I need a regulator and started shopping around and found a place that beat most by $30.00 and So. Seattle by 10... $47 for a regulator.. Well their site was messed up and wouldn't put the regulator in the shopping cart so I called them... I also was wondering about shipping.. Some vendors pad the shipping to make their cheap prices not so cheap... Well it seems they have better prices over the phone and charge less for shipping on phone orders.. I ended up paying $44.00 with shipping came out to less than So. Seattle's unshipped price. So I would suggest getting your part numbers from their website and calling the order in to their 800#. I'll let you know on shipping... they said 6-7 days. If anyone else has used them please reply to this thread. http://www.carolinacycle.com/default.asp
  18. Here is the thing folks. Before moving to our new hosting company, I spent HOURS researching, talking to others who host VBulletin forums, etc. I narrowed it down to 3 companies and then chose the one that I THOUGHT would be the best for our needs. I spend many hours over a two or three night period moving our entire site to the new server. It is not working out. Sometimes I just want to sit down and cry but I don't think that is becoming for a grown man. To make a long story short...I will be moving us again. Probably within the next few hours. I have once again secured a new server and am waiting for it to be setup as I type this. I will then migrate our site to the new server and will then change the nameservers again to point to the new IP address. What does this mean? Other than a lot of work, it means that from the time the new server is setup and then I do a backup of the current files and database and then move and configure them on the new server, we again lose posts that are made in that span of time of me backing up the old one, moving to the new one and then changing the nameservers. All I can say is that I am very sorry. I tried very hard to do my homework and make sure it would be a good move for us. It's just not working out.

Is it just me or is the site running much slower on the new server?
  20. Ok folks,by now I think we have all seen the troubles and time, not to mention his own personal money,Don has put into this site. He never asks for anything in return and I feel it is not in his character to ask. While he works a full time job he has spent the last few days keeping the site up for our pleasure and a few posts have been made on making Donations but they are kind of hidden in other post subjects. Lets all IF YOU CAN try and send even a dollar to help him and Thank Him and Yes,help pay for the new server. I know all of you have met some great people on here and I personally have made some close friendships that I will cherish forever. I have seen a few posts that even the newest of members have sent in donations..That says alot about the site! Some may not be able to send in anything and BELIEVE me,Everyone can understand that and no one would EVER hold that against whoever but those of us that can lets say "THANK YOU DON" for this with a donation that is much needed at this time to keep a great site FREE! Thank You All,Tom Everyone that has Donated THANK YOU!
  21. As most of you know, the VentureRider site was down for several hours last night. There was no problem with our actual site but with our server host. I contacted them and was informed that the server had been hit with a "denial of service attack". You can search google to find out exactly what that means but basically it means that somebody was sending a LOT of bogus validation requests and simply overwhelmed the server so that it could not respond. We are on a shared host so that does not mean that we were specifically attacked, just the server that we are on. That being said, this morning I had an email from our host telling me that our specific site had been disabled due to very high resource usage. I don't know if that was related to the other or if it was because so many people were trying to connect at the same time or what. It was followed about a hour later with an email telling me that service had been restored and no further information. I am trying to play it safe until I know a bit more about what is going on. This morning I disabled several features that were nice but that we can do without for now. You may notice that the box that shows "who has read a thread" and also who is browsing a thread is missing. Those things are fairly server resource heavy so I have turned them off for now. I have also decreased the "cookie" time back to the default of 15 minutes. This will be an inconvenience for some of you. What it means is that you will be automatically logged out after 15 minutes of inactivity. I had previously increased that number due to requests from a few members but it too increases the load on the server and though I truly want to accommodate all the requests that I can, I have to do what I can for now to reduce our server load. I've made a few other small changes also that will probably not be noticed by anybody. If you see something working differently and are wondering why, just ask and I'll check on it and see if it is something that I did. My worry here is that we the growth of our club, we are outgrowing our shared hosting. This worries me because the only solution then would be to move to a dedicated host where we would be on our own server. That means MONEY MONEY MONEY. A dedicated host is a LOT more money than being on a shared host. On a shared host, there could be a hundred or more sites and all those sites share the cost of the server, bandwidth, etc. I truly hope that it doesn't come to that because I honestly will not be able to afford it without your help. I'm still looking into it but a dedicated host will likely run in the $200.00 per month range. I'm not asking for anything at this time. I have always been committed to keeping this site free and that is still my intention. It may reach the point though that they only way I can do that is if some of you truly help out. All I am asking at this time is that you give it some thought and help me to come up with some solutions and the best way to proceed if a dedicated host becomes a requirement. Thanks, Don
  22. Critical at best. If we don't get shut down again this evening, I will be amazed. I am feverishly looking for a solution via a new host. That will take some time though and a LOT of work to move everything. I hope I can keep it going until the move but just wanted to give you a heads up. If you come here and find that the site is down, just try again later. I promise that I am doing all that I can to get the problem resolved. At this time, I'm getting flooded with "too many users" database errors.
  23. Hey, the site was down earlier.
  24. OK folks, the good news is that I have just completed the initial installation of the newest software here for the site. It seems to have gone pretty well. Now obviously you will notice some things that are missing. I will be working on the site for most of the night but the downtime should be over. Please be patient as I work at restoring missing features and ironing out any bugs that may show up.
