  1. The recent sea stories thread has inspired me to make a ship pictures thread. Here are some pics of the USS Monterey(CG-61). I am a Plankowner(original crewmember). http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/149101789_5667c260d8.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/139353617_657d9faf49.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/192000939_da110a6212-1.jpg Here are some pics of what a rooster tail looks like at flank 3 battle override, A pic of Angie and I out on a dependent's cruise, and me on commissioning day. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Navypics.jpg And here is one of my Plankowner card. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Plankowner-2.jpg And here are a few of my oldest playing Captain. Man they grow up so fast!! My second son was in the oven then. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/JaredShip.jpg Let's see those pics!!
  2. If anyone is going to need a valve shim kit and tool in the next week or so, let me know. Dingy has borrowed mine and he could ship it to someone else as easy as he could send it back to me. Its good for 1st gens and 2nd gens.
  3. Hi All, After purchasing the Ed-set intercom set up and the Mic-mutes stupid me found I don't have the factory CB installed on my bike :bang head: I contacted Bill Morphy by email and asked for advice, and he has suggested a way to still hook up the mic-mutes to the system. I need to purchase rider and passenger "push to talk" buttons from AirRider.com in Ooltewah TN but they don't ship to Australia Their site won't let me create an account Can any one help me to get these.
  4. Just learned about this DriSlide Bike-Aid lubrication product. Looks like the perfect solution for lubricating linkages and cables but it costs about $12 on Amazon and costs $17 to ship to Canada, typical. Anyone in the Great White North familiar with it?
  5. Hey BommerCPO The U.S. Navy is in town!!!! Party time in Fremantle :dancefool: The USS George Washington is out in Gage Roads, and she's a Big 'Un Her escort is the USS Cowpen. I've never seen such a humungous ship !! Do you know that my first ever pen-pals in my teen years were two U.S. navy guys. Took them home and mum fed them well, and they enjoyed "home hospitality" for a while. Still have their letters stored somewhere, and a deck of cards we used to use( is in the cupboard.) One of them(Jim Leahy) even came back for a visit when he got out of the Navy! Back then the officers and sailors used to enjoy going to a family home for a few days, instead of night clubs, getting drunk and you know- what- else. Whenever a ship was in town, the Aussie navy would do an announcment on the radio, for people to attend the dance get-together in Fremantle to meet the U.S. guys. I've even had lunch in the mess with everyone, and got lost going to the head !!
  6. The first time I ordered some OEM accessories for my 06 RSTD I checked the local suppliers in the Toronto area and found their prices to be outrageous. So I starting searching web sites south of the border. I found one that had the best price on the items I was after, but after placing the order and heading for the checkout I discovered they wouldn't ship outside the U.S.A. Then I stumbled upon www.boats.net. Although they specialize in boat parts, if you type in and search the OEM part number their database will quote a price (and if it is in stock at Yamaha) they usually received it and ship it out within a week. They had the second lowest prices I found and they shipped via USPS at a reasonable rate. I was ready to order the saddlebag trim rails this week and remembered reading a thread recently on this forum about www.motorsportssupercentre.com having even lower prices than boats.net. I checked them out and sure enough they were twenty dollars less on the rails at $159.00 compared to boats.net at $179.00. I placed the order and headed for the checkout but was shocked to find they would only ship them via UPS International at a whopping cost of $99.50 to Toronto. I even called them on the phone and asked if USPS was an option but was told UPS was the only option for international shipments. I ended up spending twenty bucks more for my parts at boats.net but ended up saving over fifty dollars U.S. by having them shipped via USPS at a cost of twenty-eight and change. Canadian buyers beware!
  7. i have finally priced my bracket - powder coated black is $199.00 + shipping................chrome plated is $325.00 + shipping. i am about two weeks away from being able to ship. Buz http://i42.tinypic.com/2k3gr4.jpg
  8. I bought a part from kncklhd 1 in White Plains, Maryland. They lost it. Anyone had any dealings with this E-Bay member? How do you loose a 40 lb part before you ship it? Got my money back but really wanted part.
  9. Only 2 days left on this auction. Money needs to go to freebird and when he lets me know that he has received the money then I will ship it out. Winner will need to PM me your address and I will have it ready to ship out. thanks
  10. Anyone live near City of Industry? Looking for someone that can pick up and ship a car part for me. Russell
  11. Well...I am officially excited now. Tomorrow we head out to Bismark ND. Then at 630 am Sunday we board our plane to California and head out on a leaky boat for a week long cruise. The ship is the Carnival Pride and we touch Cabo san something, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta (sp)? I write this to make all you stuck in this frozen waste land envious of course! We are going with another couple..some may have heard me talk of them...they ride Indians- Chief and a Scout. (when they can get them working right!) She is turning 40 while we are in the ocean and its also their 20th anniversary. He thought to surprise her with this little jaunt. She does not know yet but will find out tonight as we are going there for supper and last minute planning. This surprise has been in the works for a year now! And she suspects nothing! Even her work knows and have played along....kept her name on the schedule and everything. Gonna tip back some of those fruity drinks and try not to fall off the ship! Take care you parka clad people! At least for one week I can gloat!
  12. Someone at Michigan maintenance day asked me where I got my 6"x9" U.S. antenna flag. I ordered it online from http://www.thepropad.com/p-41-antenna-flag-mount-kits-w-6x9-flag.aspx My wife found them on a Google search. They were prompt to ship, and good to deal with. The flags are heavy duty and look like they will resist fraying pretty well. I am happy with the product.
  13. I tell you folks, I have done quite a few transactions on Ebay and for the most part, they have been very positive experiences. This last one has been a real pain though. I list an item a couple of weeks ago. Everything goes well and the winning bid was $114.00. Two days later I get a message from the buyer that she will be unable to complete the purchase because she had to take her dog to the vet and now doesn't have the money. Folks, if your money is THAT tight, you shouldn't be bidding on non-essential items on Ebay. So, I filed a non-paying bidder complaint against her with Ebay and then relisted the item. I send a second chance offer to the next bidder and he declined. I don't really blame him. I'm not usually interested in second chance offers either because they are often either bogus or else I suspect that the seller had used a friend to run up the bid in the first place. So after relisting the item, it sold again. Not for $114.00 though but this time...for $34.50. Oh well....things happen. But WAIT...I then notice that this time the winning bidder is in Mexico. I sometimes will ship internationally but for this item, was not interested in doing so and had clearing listed it as shipping ONLY to the USA. I contacted the buyer to let him know that I would not ship to Mexico. He finally decided that he would have it shipped to a friends house in Laredo, TX. I agreed to that. So...it was then 6 days before he finally paid via PayPal. This is a fairly large item and though not heavy, I knew shipping would be a bit high due to the size. I had specifed shipping as USPS First Class Mail for $27.50. I then got an email from the buyer, AFTER he had paid, instructing me to send it Priority mail because he was in a hurry for it. OK...if he was in such a hurry, why did he wait 6 days to pay? I emailed him back and told him that I had quoted $27.50 for First Class Mail and if I could ship it Priority for that price, I would but otherwise it would come First Class. That was shortly before I left for the post office and hadn't heard back from him yet. At the post office I found that First Class was going to cost $22.50 and Priority would be $34.50. I decided to try and please this guy and I shipped it Priority. So right now, I'm $7.00 in the hole on shipping. I charged nothing for packing and supplies. I just sent the guy another email and told him that per his request, I shipped it Priority and to please PayPal me an additional $7.00. What do you think the odds are that I'll ever see it? I'm guess not very good. No big deal, I can certainly live with it and am just glad that this particular transaction is over with. OH...and here is a summary of one of our email exchanges last Sunday: Me: Please understand that I am going out of town on Monday. If I do not receive payment before then, I will not be able to ship until I return. If you pay today or early tomorrow morning, I'll get it shipped before I leave. Otherwise, I will be away in which case I will not be able to ship until Friday or Saturday. Him: I plan to pay in a day or two. And no, I do not need the case.
  14. Saturday August 2nd we had an impromptu M&E with Bubber and his wife. We met up in Duluth, MN during the Maritime Festival which feature 3 wooden tall ships. My wife took a few photos and posted them on her photo blog. http://elisabethviola.blogspot.com/2008/08/duluth-tall-ship-trip.html Cheers,
  15. I know a while back there was a post that had some info on shipping a bike and some companies to use; I can't find the post. Any help finding it. Jake and myself have a little CB360 that is a project bike, he wants me to ship it to him so he will have something to play with.
  16. Ordered a Ram Mount for the ipod on Saturday. Of course, the base for the unit was backordered and would not be in until Thursday. I emailed them as to whether or not they had another base that may work as I was going on a trip Friday. They had possibilities which were emailed to me after business hours on Saturday. I was surprised at that. On Monday, today, I was about to call, but they had emailed me to let me know they had the item overnighted and it would ship today. They are located in Eureka Springs, Ar. and carry a pretty extensive array of stuff. Seems like a good vendor. I'm not sure howto enter a link on this site, but the web address is cyclegadgets.com. Prices don't seem too bad either. Worth a look.
  17. Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo. WHAT ?? You expected something educational from me??
  18. Hi All, I'm a new member and owner of an 07 RSV that I traded my 1100 V-star for. I'm trying to replace the ridiculously tall windshield. The clearview with the vent looks like maybe what I need but I'm going on a long ride before they can ship. Is there anything else comparable, or is there a dealer somewhere that might have one in stock. Thanks, Riderdan
  19. I heard there's a cruise ship of ferry that you can load your bike on to and travel the BC coastline up to Alaska or vise-versa. Has anyone done this and if so what can you tell me about it? What ports does the ship sail from? Any web sites? This is something I've been thinking about for a while. I probably won't be up for if this year but maybe next year. I figure leave home around the first of June and be in Alaska for the first day of summer to get the longest daylight hours, then sail down the coast to Vancouver and then maybe down into California along the coast and zig-zag back home.
  20. Hi all. I've put an wanted ad on this site for a 1983/93 XVZ frame, and would like some info on how to ship it to the UK, what's the cheapest method and how will it have to be packed, will a palette do etc? Thanks all, Woz.
  21. www.coveralls.biz These folks have offered a group discount with reduced shipping. I am offering to accumlate funds and order info, submit the order and then reship for free to those who have bought. I will let this thread run for a couple weeks. Those who would like to purchase can PM me what they want, their address and I'll provide you my address to mail me a check. Here is a link to the thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=11583 Here is a copy of some of the companies responses. David Rutledge from coveralls says: "If you have a "group", then we will gladly offer quantity discounts for the group. All that is necessary is to assemble the orders, with individual information, and then call me at (2140350-2690. You have to call because the shopping cart on the web page is set up to bill at one price only-full retail. To get the discount, we have to bypass that. We will give the following discounts to you and your group. 3-6 covers- 10% each, 6-9 covers-15% each, and more than 9-20% each. We will need to ship the covers in bulk if possible, but we can ship them individually and charge the normal shipping and handling charges on each one. You will save considerably on the bulk shipping, if someone will distribute them to the purchasers." Yes they do have an inner backing. We have been selling full covers for touring bikes for over three years now, and we have never-repeat-NEVER had even one complaint about a scratched windshield. And furthermore, never had a complaint related to paint being scratched either, and as you and I both know, that would be disastrous if it should occur. Hope this helps, and thanks for your interest in CoverAlls products! Hope to hear from you soon. For those that have questions, please PM them to me and I will submit them at once to the company. I'm thinking we might even want to approach them about a link to our site and theirs here, depending on how they treat us, but that would be up to Don. Thanks, Jay
