  1. It's taking me a little bit of effort to get used to the heel-toe shifter. Plus, my current riding boots are worn out and it is time tor eplace. I am thinking about getting a set of cowboy boots, but I am wondering how well the work with the controls. My size 12 foot barely fits between the two shifter pegs as it is. Anyone else ride with forward controls and cowboy boots?
  2. This is the first bike that I've owned that has a heal toe shifter. I have been riding it using just the toe but trying the heal every once in a while. It's very uncomfortable because the heal is so high when the toe is where is like it. I removed the inside belcrank and lowered the heal and it was better for up shifting. The toe was then to high to be comfortable. I started looking at other bikes (mainly HD) and most of their shifters are 2 piece with a spline that allows both the heal and toe to be adjusted separately. Does anyone make a shifter that is more adjustable or flatter than the stock heal toe? I’ve read other posts about cutting off the heal and that is not an option I want to take.
  3. Hello all!- I am a new member yesterday after I bought a 1983 Venture Royale. I bought this bike yesterday knowing that 2nd gear was out of it, but it seemed to run fine skipping over it when you shifted. Drove it on the trailer, brought it home, unloaded it, went to drive it and it is locked in first gear. The shifter moves upward smoothly to reach the other gears, but nothing happens. Everything is functioning on the outside of the crankcase. The shift rod? that goes thru the crankcase cover turns when the shifter is lifted. Things feel a little rough when you try to depress the shifter, but I haven't forced the shift pedal down thru its full travel. You do feel resistance against the pedal when you try to push it. I was hoping to get a couple weeks of use from the bike before I attempt the 2nd gear repair over the winter. We must have damaged something driving it on the trailer. As usual, any input is welcomed and I look forward to talking with you guys in the future. Thanks everyone, Jon
  4. Well finally got bike running great today so rode over to a friends house to show him. So I pulled up to his garage where he and another friend was standing next to a 79 Moto Guzzi and as I stopped I slowly fell over on the left side. (Just like Arte Johnson on Laugh In). The loop on my tennis shoe laces caught on my shifter and I couldn't put my foot down. Didn't hurt me or the bike but we sure got a good laugh out of it. And I'm sure this won't be the last I hear of it. Will send in my donation tonight.
  5. i have a beautiful set of boards with heel/toe shifter......got pegs? with linkage, brake n shifter? maybe we can work out a deal
  6. The shifter lost the lock down screw and slid off the splines on my 84 Venture. I pushed it back on and got another nut. I put it in neutral and adjusted the shift rod until the light came on. When I tried riding it, I would have to stomp it hard to go into first. When I parked, the neutral light would not come on again. I would see it blink as I passed through to second. I tried the adjust twice more and each time, it would lose the light after shifting through the gears and first was still tricky. The Yamaha Service manual is no help. Any ideas OH GURUS of the TRIPPLE TUNNG FORKS?
  7. I am just getting back into riding after a very long dry spell. I have bought a 96 Royal star tour classic. The problem that I have is that the heel toe shifter is not long enough for me to place my foot in between the heel and the toe. Therefore I have to place my foot outside of that area. The second is that there seems to be alot of play from left to right in the shifter. May because of wear since its a 96. Does anyone know of any after market toe shifters that will accomodate a size 12 boot? It also seems like the shifter is so close to the side of the roll bar that its hard to put your whole toe on top of the shifter. My thought was to take it to a shop and have it extended, maybe have them fill the hole with a weld (where it mounts on the shaft) and then redrill a new opening. Any comments? Thanks PJ
  8. I like the heel-toe shifter on my RSV. I do not like the black coverings for the contact parts for your feet - I replaced mine with those Kuryakyn ones, and I do not like those either. I LOVE the heel-toe shifter on my '06 Stratoliner. So I want something like that on my RSV. Anyone got any ideas on aftermarket or something to give me that? Also after riding my Strat - my RSV's shifting feels "spongy" compared to my Strat - any suggestions on how to improve that as well? TIA!
  9. Ive read through similar threads and have tried the solution's offered but my problem persists. a. If I downshift, the shifter will occasionally stick, it wont pop back up. b. Although less frequent, I also have a hard time getting it into neutral c. Even less frequently, I have a tough time just shifting through the gears. I am running Amsoil 20/50, Im on 200 miles with MotorKote added. I made sure all the ball joints for the linkage were tight, clean and lubricated. (b) and © I can deal with as eventually I get my way. (a) is a problem. I can roll up to a light in 3rd, drop it to 2nd, shifter hangs. Now Im at a light unable to get moving in 1st. Any ideas?
  10. Has anyone ever straightened out the toe side of the shifter? Move it in towards the engine. It seems like it would clear up some room on the floorboard for setting the foot. Doing this might make it hard to get your toe on it. By the way, I always use both the heel and the toe.
  11. Ok, I think there may be something wrong with my shifter. It does not want to change gears when at a stop. It will only shift when moving and that is only sometimes. I do not believe it is the cluch, it appears to be working fine. When I am in neutral and try to shift to 1st, the shifter goes all of the way down but does engage anything:puzzled:. If I shift up to second, sometimes it will go, but not always. It almost feels like the shifter is not connected to something. It will let you push and pull it as far as you want. Sometimes it will not let you back into Neutral once you got into second or above. Does anybody know where I should start to look? I was unable to find anything in the book, though I was able to find a parts break down of it. Please help, this is the last thing keeping me off of the road.... Thank you, Clay P.S. rocking the bike does not help.
  12. Ok a couple of weeks to when we leave for the ralley. On the way to church this morning I lost 1st gear. 84 VR. Starts in neutral and goes up to 2nd and 3rd no problem. Most of the time goes to 4th ok as well and 5th is Ok. Once in awhile 4th is missing too. I shift back down and up again to get it. Was working fine and this happened all of a sudden. I replaced the stator in the spring and had the shifter off to do that but it's worked fine for 6,000 Kms since then so I don't believe that is the problem. So question is what could be causing this and what is the solution? Do I have to remove the engine and split the case? HELP!!!! Wayne
  13. Will a heal to toe shifter fron a 1987 Venture Royale XVZ1300 work on my 1983 XVZ1200?
  14. Does anyone else have this issue? When I downshift or upshift, I have to reset the shifter. So, if I need to go from 5th to 2nd, I'd push down on the front, then I'd slightly push down on the heel, because the shifter will not pop back up so I can go back down. I wanted to know if anyone else had any of these problems. If so, what did you do to remedy them? Thanx...
  15. Well after the new master cylinder and new slave ,which ironically went in fairly easily, and after reverse bleeding with tutoring from Condor, my shifter on old 83 is still stuck.... Can't go up or down thru the gears with or without the clutch.. just seems stuck. Up on the centerstand, the rear wheel is free. With the clutch cover off, I can by hand turn the center. Help ......b4 this goes to the shop and get more expensive than the bike is worth. Clay
  16. Is it possible to adjust the angle of the shifter? I need the toe lower and the heel higher. I see an adjustment screw (?) just forward of the pivot point. Bike is new and have had some problems going in 1st past neutral when downshifting to a stop. I have also had an incident when shifting up using the heel shifter. The neutral problem makes me move the clutch handle out to help shift down to 1st (not a good feeling when sitting at a stop light). Any suggestions? Thanks!
  17. The bolt that holds the heel-toe shifter on my '06 RSTD rattled off and has been lost. Thanks to V7Goose, I got it field fixed using the spare bolt on the left hand fuse box cover. However, I want to replace it with an official bolt. I called the dealership today, who could not tell me what sort of bolt I should buy. Is it chromed? How long is it? The PDF I have of the service manual shows that it has a hex head and integrated washer, but doesn't really give me any other information. Does someone have information on this bolt? A description and a torque value would be handy.
  18. I have a 93 Venture Royale and it's very uncomfortable trying to keep my feet on the floor boards has any body moved thier shifter and foot brake forward, or do you have to redue the saddle to move your hinny backwards. Thanks
  19. Found a nice set of floorboards and shifter for a 99 Royal star....how tough would it be to adapt them to my 88 Venture? I'm pretty good at adapting and fabricating things like that, but with the shifter and brake assemblies, it seems like it'd be a tough job. Anyone out there with enough knowledge of both bikes to offer an opinion? Thanks:banana:
  20. Does anybody know of a longer shifter for the RSV? One that's about 2" longer in the toe part and the same length in the heel part would be perfect. I'd even give up the heel portion to have the toe part about 2" longer. Smokee '07 RSV
  21. Does anyone know where I can get a heal/toe shifter for Marilyn's 1100 custom vstar? It's an 02....I have checked everywhere and cant find one! Oh,ya...and if anyone is parting or selling a vstar that has the oil relocation kit and wants to sell that item let me know! New ones are getting pretty steep!
  22. i have a 1985 VR it has floor boards and pedel (?) shifter i want to put pegs and regular shifter what to i need and is it very hard:322:
  23. Besides making sure you LocTite the shift lever bolt, you should make sure you have properly lubed the pivot. I noticed the shifter seems considerably more sloppy on my 05 with 40,000 miles than my 07 with 13,000. When I pulled the shifter off, I noticed wear on the pivot just to the rear of top center. It was also pretty dry. There is a grease groove in the middle of the pivot, and my 07 did show it had once been packed. I bet the shifter on the 05 wouldn't be near as sloppy had I checked this long ago. Note that this IS listed on the periodic maintenance chart in the Owner's manual! My bad for not having properly checked it sooner. The shop used to just use a spray lube like a thin white grease on this point as well as the kick stand and brake peddle, so maybe I'll get them to fix it under warranty. Goose

    Heal Toe Shifter

Anybody use the heal portion of the heal toe shifter? I tried playing with it but it feels to awkward shifting with my heal. Thinking of getting rid of it. Gets in the way.
  25. My 02 is having trouble in the shifting department. Going into 3rd it is like I hit a dead spot where it will not shift to 3rd out of 2nd. Shifter will not go up into 3rd I can down shift back to 2nd then it will go to 3rd and sometimes I have to do it a couple times. Needless to say it is IRRITATING to say the least. Anyone else have this problem or know what it is. I have never encountered this before I pull the clutch in and hit 2nd then try for 3rd and the shifter will not go up no matter how hard I try. THANKS in ADVANCE.................................Ron
