  1. It didnt happen all the time but travelling 70 mph it seemed like the engine dropped to a lower speed it even with the the cruise control it would kick off than i twist the throttle and Im back off running again
  2. Hello. I am new to this forum and if this is in the wrong place I apologize in advance. I am looking at picking up a venture and from my research it is a Mk I as it has the 1200 cc engine and detachable luggage. Right now it is not mobile and has not run in a year or so. I am an experienced mech so getting it running should not present too much of a problem. My question is is $250.00 cdn a good deal for this bike even if it is going to take a bit of work and money to fix up? I am new to ventures so not sure of value of these bikes. Thanks in advance. Jason
  3. I have been running an Avon Venom "skinny" front tire, the MT90HB-16, since I switched out of the stock Brickstones. I love it. I am fixin' to order a new pair of tires, and see that there is an MT90HB-16 Front on the Dunlop Elite 3. I am trying out the E3s, and I wonder if anyone is running the skinny front E3? Maybe I should run the stock size (150/80-16) and see if I like it? Dave
  4. No, not mental, that left long ago and will never come back. I finally got rid of the CT today and put a Elite II on the back. WAY BETTER. I'm not trying to control the bike all the time anymore and its fun to ride again. That's my take on running a CT and I tried everything to get it to work but you really just can't use a CT on a motorcycle IMHO. So I'll just .
  5. Got my 86 back from the shop today with a new-to-her motor, an 89 that incidently is in perfect condition. All four cylinders test to stock compression and better yet, this is one heck of a quiet running motor. Got her home and assembled all the other stuff and took it on a good long ride. Whoa, I am impressed; runs like new, smooth, lots of power, and clean. Love it. I've heard these motors are bullet proof. Well they aren't. The original motor developed either a piston slap or a wrist pin knock and rather that fix a motor that had well over 100k, even though the PO said 24K, I picked up this one from hessforless. I replaced a motor in an 83 by myself about 3 years back and I'll never take that on again. Anyway, I just wanted to share this great experience with all. Now I again have two great running, great looking sleds in the garage.
  6. Had carb sync at meet & eat I have run two tanks of gas 40.2 & 39.3 two up. I was geting 35,36 mpg at best. I thought bike was running good before sync but much more efficeint now thanks to Slick97spirit and and Eck . jmc
  7. Hi Everyone I am looking for foreword pegs or better yet foreword boards (big feet)for my 85. I need to stretch the legs! I have all the components for the radio and cassette player. Also, I have a set of running boards that need some tender care. They are the ones that connect to their own crash bars. Left side is a bit out of shape. I already gave running boards. I would love to trade stuff. If this is in the wrong area please move or if this is not allowed please fell free to remove.
  8. My wholesome honey and I just got off the Blue Ridge Pkwy to get some gas. I checked my mileage after running about 135 miles and it was 49 mpg.
  9. Best riding weather we have had so far this year and what am I doing? Out working on the bike trying to get it running so I can ride. Hope I can lick this thing today.
  10. Tried to go for a ride today--No luck---battery was dead---I jumped it and rode for 30 minutes then turned her off--nothing on the restart attempt but a slow Grrrrr then tick- tick:doh:---I have only had the bike for about 2 weeks but the previous owner gave me paperwork showing that he had replaced Battery-starter-stator all in November of last year.........I jumped it off again and while it was running I removed the ground cable--she kept on running--also the voltage meter shows it is charging just fine......think I just got a Bad "new" battery?---............................Larry
  11. Im adding another light to the trailer and as I was hooking it up my running lights on the trailer went out. All lights work on the bike and trailer- except trailer running lights. Just figured I blew a fuse but when checked they all are good. So I got my tester out and there is no power coming out of pigtail for the running lights. I have the trailer light assembly (wiring box) with the extra fuse box. I checked all fuses except main- i know its not that one cuz everything else works. Is it possible I fried something in that trailer wiring block? Anyone have any other ideas? Thanx for the help in advance
  12. This is very short notice, but if you're interested, tomorrow is the Blue Ridge Fest benefit poker run. registration online or starting 0830. Blessing of the bikes at 0900 and starts running from 0915 till 1100. cost $25.00 last year they had like 500 bikes. It's supposed to be a 100 mile run starting in Pickens SC and ending in Anderson SC (at the HD store I believe) Brenda and I would like to go but I am not too interested in running a group of one. If any of you guys wants to join up PM me and we'll see where and when we can join up. If you are already planning on going and don't mind additional company let me know. temps in the upper 80 w. chance of isolated T'stroms
  13. Hwy 108 out of Canton (Ga) just got new tar snakes this year. Today is the first day over 90 degrees that I've ridden it. Gosh! The bike was all over the road. Running 35 lbs in the front 40 in the rear on Avon Venoms (front is the 150/80) (40000 on the odometer). Ive had it on the stand and to handlebars don't bounce when hitting the limit, can't feel any slop in the triple tree. Running low on ideas here. At 5 mph and good shake of the handlebars feels kind of like I have a underinflated radial tire on the front. Even if the shocks were worn out, I don't think they'd cause this. But like I said, out of ideas. Anybody else got any?
  14. help, my 02 midnight is running at about 75%, or maybe on 3 cyclinders, seems to just bog out in od if you throttle it hard and the front left cyclinder's pipe is not getting hot while running, the other 3 three are. any suggestions? I would sure like some help maybe getting the carbs sync'd. thanks, bigdog1971:think:
  15. Is there a fuse that is on only when the bike is running? Would like to add a relay for new HID headlight and wire the relay to come on only after the bike has started.
  16. Hey Everyone,, hope all is well I have a pathetic 720 miles on my New 09' Venture( purchased on April Fools Day 2010) as of today. I was running around doing errands & stuff. The Radio, CD player, cuts out while riding, sitting at a light, scratching my butt, it doesn't matter. Sometimes with the engine not running, it plays just fine. So I called my dealer, asked if they had any thoughts. The Ser. Mgr asked a couple of ??'s like is the CB on, Did I read the Manual? ETC... & ( My Favorite ) Did you buy the bike here? If you have Factory Warranty, it doesn't matter where you buy it. He still gets the billable, & paid by Yamaha. If I want to bring it in, Leave it for the day, because it takes a long time to remove the Fairing. He seemed to have an attitude, Because I didn't buy from them, I did try, but the money wasn't right & The color of the bike was wrong. Anyway Sam G. Who is the Parts Manager at Beach Blvd Powersports in Jax., Fl. is really cool, I have been doing buisness with him for about 10 years, he's in my phone on speed dial. What is it with Service Departments??? I am A Factory Mobile Technician, I have to do Warranty work too, I get credit for the Travel, Labor, Mileage, Parts. Its guaranteed work!! Why would they rather piss-off a good customer, than treat them like you want their buisness?? OK I'm done venting!! I lied ,, Now I'm done. I also do all my tires with them too. mounting & Balancing etc.. So Today when I got home,,, I did my first service, and I removed the front fairing,It didn't take very long at all, went looking for a bad connection, While the bike was running in my shop with all doors closed, I played with all the wires, did not find anything that seemed to cause a problem. Put it back together, CD & Radio work fine. Until I am going down the road, then it will go goofy again, maybe not?? Anyone have a simuliar problem??? I am really liking the Venture. It works much better on my sand road, so I can now ride when ever I want. The wife really likes backs seat too, and alot more room, and the Floorboards are great too. Ok I'm done for alittle while. Later Vern
  17. Took the bike out for its first decent run since its re-birthing this winter. Bike was naked, not me, everyone can breath now. No plastic on bike except front and rear fenders. I really think this all has been worth it. Running at about 50mph in third and twist the throttle open and I had to grab grips harder it had so much acceleration. Revs up to about 8500 RPM with out pushing hard, hit almost 9000 once with no sign of valve float. Front brakes are absolutely no problem, Rear brake didn't lock up, which is good. Put about a 1/3 of a can of seafoam in it, and rode about 30 miles. Carbs are close, but haven't been synced yet. Occasional pop when decelerating. Might be running a little rich, exhaust pipes where sort of soft black. Clutch is a handful with the two diaphragm springs in it. No leaks anywhere. All the electrical stuff is working. 18. Anyone running aftermarket coils on their second gen RSTD? did you notice enough of a difference to justify the cost? also would like to know if you are running hotter coils and aftermarket exhaust did you change anything in the carbs? thanks for any input
  19. Now that I am back in VA, it sure is depressing looking outside and my Midnite RSV ain't sitting there. I sure do miss that bike! I only had her for 7 months but man we had some good times! RIP my black beauty!!!! http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs494.snc3/26972_1362195648803_1048940196_31078560_6669339_n.jpg Taken 2 hours before the accident on 3/27. She sure was looking and running good that morning. Just the day before I had ridden her from Washington DC to Myrtle Beach, SC and just topped 10K miles. She was so young!!!!:crying::crying::crying::crying: Ben
  20. it was just my imagination running away with me. Each day, through my windshield, I watch as the road passes by. I say to myself, "You're such a lucky guy." To have a bike like her is truly a dream come true. Out of all of the yammys in the world she belongs to me... But it was just my imagination . . . running away with me. It was just my imagination running away with me... Every night, on my knees I pray, "Dear Lord, hear my plea... don't ever let a cager wreck and take my bike from me or I will surely die.." Ooh, 4 cylnders are heavenly; when the Revs unfold before me, I hear a tender rhapsody... but in reality, she may need a carb sync from me But it was just my imagination -- once again -- running away with me. I tell you it was just my imagination running away with me...
  21. My 83 venture seams to want to vear off from side to side going down the road at any speed. All I can find is the front pressure keeps going up to 22 psi. I set the guage to manual but it keeps going to auto and build pressure. Would this be the problem of the weaving or is it some thing else. The scoot went on craigslist the first of the week. Going to down size.
  22. I have running lights on my 2004 RSV I damage the ring that goes around the light that holds it together. Does any body have one that I could buy here are some pictures of what I need or do you know were I can get one.
  23. I just installed my Tailgunners. What do you think of 'em? They spin like a Gatling gun when the bike is running. They ARE loud. Still trying them out to see if we're gonna like 'em. So far, so good. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3859.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3860.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3861.jpg
  24. I have been looking at GPSs for my bike and decided to try out the Telenav that I have on my Blackberry and see how well it works with my Q2s. Initial test shows that it is going to give me the voice prompts during navigation. I also am still able to receive telephone calls while telenav is running in the background. What I have not had the time to check is, If I am on the phone will the telenav still send its voice prompts. Has anyone else run this type of setup and had any luck or trouble? -Blackberry running Telenav Blackberry app. -Scala Q2s set up with phone pairing.
  25. Generally my venture doesn't take much choke to start it. After a cool start up from outside I drove straight into my garage(no warm up). Next day went to start and only running on 3 cylinders. three hot one cold. Took the plug out it was wet and fouled, I replaced only that plug but it still is not running the same. Any thoughts on this? Should replace all plugs? Just replaced begining of last year.
