  1. Hi guys, just to touch base on the Speedo Healer for the RSV.. My bike would report back roughly 10% discrepancy in it's speedo and the GPS speed.. reconfirmed with another vehicle etc.. So I'm good and sure my speed is reading 10% under the actual speed.. 110 kph highway speed reads 120 kph on my speedo.. So I usually have my GPS mounted for accurate speed readings.. Not a prob but ya know how it is.. dang, I would like the bike to be accurate too huh.. A few years ago I had purchased a Speedo Healer for my 2005 1100 VStar but never got around to installing it on the bike for one reason or another.. So it sat in the box for a few years.. An article by Freebird in regards to "gear indicator" had a mention in there about Speedo Healers.. and it reminded me "darn I wish I had one of those for the RSV"... and funny enough the one for the VStar is the same one you would use for the RSV.. =) And wouldn't you know it.. the installation is bone stupid simple.. literally "plug and play" and there is an online calculator to help you with the settings on the unit.. a row of 6 dip switches have to be selected in a certain sequence to input the properly 'correction' into the unit's flash to make it all work ok.. I just took the bike out for a test ride and wow.. now THAT's locked in tight for speed.. A quick steady speed up the highway at 100 kph on the GPS shows also 100 kph on the bike's speedo... down to 40 kph in residential and same thing.. wow, it works!! The only thing I have to remember now is to NOT add an additional 10 kph to my bike's speedo other wise I will be speeding! VERY impressed.. wow.. You can find more info on these at http://www.healtech-electronics.com/ Someone had put up an installation guide.. it took longer to read the guide than it was to actually install the unit.. http://www.speedohealer.com/your_pics/royalstar/sh_install_royalstar.pdf It only took me 3 years but I finally put mine to use LOL.. I'll have to go through my box of goodies and see what else I might be able to put to use..
  2. I told the dealer that I'd give them my old Jaguar and my Valk for a blue/black '07 RSV. They called this afternoon and said that they'd take the deal. If the rain allows it I'll go in the morning and make the trade. The Jag needs some work and so does the Valk so I think I'll be coming out ahead.......until I start missing the Valkyrie again, then who knows what I'll do.
  3. Well. Visiting the sunshine state and was looking for the best Yamaha shop in the Orlando FL area. Since the HD guys like to strut their t-shirts from all over the place, even places they have not been, I thought I would hunt down the best big Yamaha shop so I could try to bring back a Yamaha t-shirt from my visit. Too bad, I don't have my RSV with me. Just too big to pack in the suit case and get on the plane. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and accepted. Just don't want to get the HD shirt. Just not right. Just visiting, Thanks

    Got one!

I want to thank all of the posters here who gave so much good advise (not to mention their time) answering a lot of rookie questions. I found a 1999 RSV in immaculate condition. I picked it up on Friday evening, and rode it home the next day. I put just over 610 miles on it Saturday. The Avons are nearly new, it has had a 100 percent service and fluids change, the rear end and splines have been serviced, and it came with a bunch of extras like a 1300lb floor jack. My ride home showed only 1 fault - the original saddle. I had tried out a 2003 with a pillow-top, and my fat a** liked it a lot better. If any one knows of someone who has purchased a Corbin or Mustang, and has a pillow-top unit taking up space in the garage, let me know what you want for it. At the same time, I know of a perfect stock 1999 model RSV seat if anyone's looking!!!
  5. Thumbs up to the RSV!! I got my "new to me" 99 RSV this summer so this cold weather riding season with it. Had a meeting in Minneapolis this morning so I headed out from my place here in Northern Wisconsin at 5:00am. Temp was 35 degrees. 120 miles to the cities and not cold at all. I wore my Cabela's Dry Plus rain gear bibs from my boat. Not insulated, but windproof so my knees were fine. Probably close to the end of our season. Rain forecast for this weekend and then temps are supposed to drop next week even more... Scott.....
  6. Finally got my trike finished.I'll try to get pics uploaded.
  7. New 2nd Gen RSV owner. Just picked up a 2006 RSV but the side stand is bent. I need to replace it and some other members recommended I post here to see if anyone who has converted their scoots to a trike might have a side stand laying around they need to "dispose" of. If you have one you want to get rid of, please let me know, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Mike:thumbsup2:
  8. I have a bike lift I bought from Harbor Freight years ago for my Suzuki LC1500. Well it seems it doesnt quite fit under my 1999 RSV. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. For the past two years I've been looking at the RSV and waiting for the right bike to come along. Two and a half weeks ago (July 20th) I came across a 2009 RSV with only 2500km (have added 1300km since). Original owner had it 4 months. My background is that I got my M license in 1990 (first bike was an '81 KZ305 which I put 20,000km on, second bike which I still have is a 1999 Virago 1100 which I've put 54,000km on). I'm still getting used to the RSV so thinking 2011 I'll do a Canada East Coast trip and plan the big trip for 2012. The "dream ride" is from Kitchener (60 miles west of Toronto) to Chicago to pick up Rt 66 and follow it to California (2 weeks). From there, Pacific Coast highway up to Vancouver (1 week), and then across Canada (1 week) to home. Not looking to do straight milage as this will be a 2-up trip and will be sight seeing along the way. Might extend it to 5 weeks once I lay out the final plans. What I'm wondering is .... when is the best time of the year to do this trip? Being in Canada and wanting to avoid leaving or returning when there is snow on the ground.... my window is basically May - Oct. Considering that I'd be following what used to be Rt 66 and going thru Texas/Arizona and how hot it can be during July/Aug.... when are the best months to go thru these States to avoid the hottest/wettest months?
  10. Just wondering what the most quite exhaust is that can be installed on an RSV? Have khrome works now and a bit to loud for me.
  11. Below are ebay links to the two patches that were made relating to Yamaha's & RSV's First one has profanity in it that is blocked out in picture. Second one is a good natured rubbing at our RSV members. Intended for the 1st gen owners. Each are $3.95, including shipping. 12. Being new to the RSV world, and having done many conversions, but haven't heard back from any of the ones converted except to say WOW why did I wait!! Which is good. Now if it was a Goldwing I know which tire works good, better, and best. However for the Venture, I don't have a clue ( Yet ) The tires on the bike when I got it were new, so it will be a while ( I hope ) before I need another. It is a Continental Conti. What I am asking is: What tire on the front of the Venture is considerer the best for the Trike. Is there size change Etc: There isn't too much found in the search.
  13. egads.. I had my rear shock replaced under warranty last summer and after this long run discovered the dang thing has crapped out.. Comparing it to a couple of other RSV, I stand on the right side of the bike and press down on the rear seat, mine will spring down and up smoothly while the other two have a heck of a lot more resistance to the downward push than mine does.. This is how the tech showed me my shock was dead when he suggested a warranty replacement (a quick test he says).. So though my shock holds air pressure, there is no resistance to it.. and I do not recall ever finding a puddle of oil under the bike nor can I notice any oil dirt on the bottom of the shock.. I ride a lot in the rain, so wonder if that washed a lot of it off? The bike handles the bumps well enough but I noticed lately that the bile wallows in bumpy long curving turns at high speeds.. I can anticipate it and not find it scary though someone not expecting this on their bike might well panic. Anyway, now that the bike is officially out of warranty as of last month (shyte timing huh?) I need to figure out what best to do.. I doubt I'll want to order another whimpy $900 Yamaha shock which will most likely go bunky in a year.. what choices do I have? I'm having my front forks serviced later this month and was contemplating on having a set of progressive springs installed. I have them in my VStar and love the stiffness and lack of nose dive when attack sharp corners or abrupt stopping. It has a nice spring rate.. Has anyone tried these on their RSV yet? Anyhoo... lemme know what you think.. Cheers
  14. I Bought a 2004 Perl RSV over the weekend and the person who had it before me messed up the rear seat. If some one has one to sell please let me know......Ken kj4v30701@gmail.com 706-252-0662
  15. Can some tell me how to remove the shock on an 03 RSV.
  16. I just bought Dart trailer. It has the square 5 pin connector. Can anyone lead me to the path of righteousnous on how to wire this up to my 2007 RSV? Randy
  17. What kind of gas mileage are you getting on your trikes.Mine is an 07 Hannigan trike and I am getting around 30 miles per gallon, riding between 60 & 65 mph .My brother in law is getting his Rsv back from the trike shop Monday .The guy building the trike said I should be getting better mileage than that.Should I be getting mine checked/:95:
  18. just ordered the Kuhmo and the Avon Cobra for my 04 RSV...I'll be enjoying the cookies by next weekend...
  19. I posted a classified but wanted to post here too...I met a person with a 99 RSV who is looking for a complete trunk with passenger backrest. Let me know if you might possibly be able to help him out. I will talk him into joining this group!
  20. Good News: 2011 RSV is finally on the Yamaha web site BAD News: Absolutely NO changes (except color of course, its 2-tone blue)
  21. Due to my wife losing her job in February I lost my 2007 RSV yesterday. It was heartbreaking watching it leave! I have a 96 4x4 Suzuki x90 5 speed and some cash if someone has a 99 or 2000 plus they don't ride any more. I am not interested in anything but a 2nd Gen RSV, just spoiled now. If you might be interested call me at 706-252-0662........Ken
  22. Disclaimer: this is not a knock on those who chose to go to a different model. To each their own, and I mean that. Your reasons are all valid ones. I always wanted a Harley but when I got my RSV it was love at first sight. This is just one member's insight on why he still likes the RSV. After reading threads over the past year about members leaving the RSV and getting another bike, mainly because of the lack of upgrades, I said to myself, self, what do you dislike so much about the RSV that would make you part ways with it? I found nothing that would make me give up the ol' girl. Im a low tech kind of guy and the RSV is just fine for me. Would I pay the 20k MSRP for a new one now..no way. The technology hasnt caught up enough to warrant that kind of price. Harley and GW have increased their technical advantages over the years to kinda warrant that kind of price. But, like I said, for me the RSV suits my needs. Im comfortable on it. I can handle it just fine. Wife falls asleep on the back. And it still looks purty....Put untold amounts of upgrades over the years to make it just the way I like it. So, ill just enjoy my old bike a little while longer...
  23. Well, wow, how does one part with ten years of great rides and memories?! A bittersweet moment in my life is about to take place. I am selling my 1999 RSV. It is time for a change. The Mrs. is not too happy, but she knows sometimes you just have to make some changes and move forward. I am flying out to Belton, MO this week to pick up a 2009.... oh god I can't believe I am going to write this.... HD Ultra Classic. Yeah, I know - hard to believe, even for me it is hard to believe, and then ride it back home - 11 hours on the road. The thing is this, I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Yammie to update this bike. I want the modern "stuff" that HD puts on their bikes. I rode one a week ago, it felt smaller than our RSV's, and not quite as "robust", but it was smooth, lighter for "me" (I am small guy), and I liked all the modern gadgetry. Now I did not just get whatever the local Dealer had... I read, researched and looked for what "I" wanted - features and colors scheme. I still think the bikes are a tad over priced. If you want to see The Soon-to-be new ride I still have my 2006 Yam Stratoliner for my tootin round town fun. So let the chastising begin! So if ya know anyone looking for a very loaded, clean, well kept, pristine, 1999 RSV - send em my way! I put an ad here on VROrg and it is listed on CraigsList
  24. Well Yamaha just announce the 2011 RSV on the Canadian and US sites and here is the BIG news..... They changed the color of the paint.....again.... And raised the price......again... I have just scheduled a test ride on a 2010 Goldwing for Monday...... gotta replace the 2007 RSV I just totaled as Yamaha did NOT use the 2nd gen VMax motor in the 2011 RSV :( :( :( :( :( Wish me luck at the Honda dealership.
