well i finally got up the nerve to do it.my rstd is on ebay.listing no.230186966291. this is scary. i love this bike. my v-star 1300 is the official replacemrnt. the ride to memphis confirmed it. it did the job just fine.don't worry i ain't going anywhere .i would'nt let you all off that easy.you'll just have to put up with a snarley old fart on a v-star for an eternity. bill

Apologize for not posting this sooner, but I'm finally starting to feel like my old self again after the accident. I do want to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes after the accident:) sure is nice to know caring people still exist everywhere. I do have a partial settlement from the other drivers insurance company, their property damage adjuster is giving me almost 100% of what I had paid for my 07 RSTD, the service mgr at the local yamaha dealer convinced him to use NADA blue book, so I owe him a great big thanks too. On the other hand their medical/injury adjuster is being a complete jerk, but should be able to get this issue settled within the next couple of months. I'm going to test ride the new venture when the local dealer gets theirs in and have some questions, I had been riding a RSTD for several years, how much difference is there in the "top heaviness" between the venture and the rstd, I know that's subjective, but just trying to get an idea from those that have ridden both. If I go back to the rstd, how difficult is it to add either a yamaha trunk or HD trunk to the bike, I do plan on removing the passenger pillion again. Sorry for the long post, can't wait to get back on a bike again. Thanks JT

or, maybe the Kings... I have a dilemma and some of you all have experience I need. I have an 05 RSTD. I recently purchased an 08 Concours. My SO wants to start riding again and she would like a "queen's seat" like on the GW/RSV. I love the 08 Concours for that solo ride and SPORT-touring capability but it's no 2-up mount. There really isn't an option of convincing her to ride on the RSTD. I've owned an 03 RSV and I simply won't buy another until it is updated as I want all the doodads. We have sat on a new Victory Vision and even though it has many features I can't get past an air-cooled motor being mounted in all that plastic nor some elements of the design. I'm also not too interested in HD bikes due to power and noise issues. I'm looking for something electric quiet as my 08 Concours ... I've found I really like that a lot. So, given all this would you convince me not to buy an GW for 2-up riding ? You have any thoughts ? Also, should I sell all my accessories and the RSTD separately ? Is that what you would do ? Is the gas tank on a 07 RSV and RSTD the same? I found a tank bib that fits a RSV and was curious if it would fit my RSTD.

well went and did it .getting a lighter bike.the rstd is for sale.made the deal on the phone today. supposed to pick it up saturday.any one who is interested in a loaded venturized 05 rstd pm. me.3 yrs remain on the warranty.close to $4000 in extras,17,000 miles.like new condition.never guess what i got.hint it's dragonriders fault.

I know this question has probably come up thousands of times, but I'm on the verge of trading my 05 RSTD in for a Midnight Venture I found. Is there anyone who has went from a RSTD to a Venture and found pros & cons that can help me make a better decision? I love my RSTD but recently rode a friends HD Ultra Glide and my wife loved the added comfort and I really liked being able to listen to a radio. I also like the idea of the back trunk for helmets and stuff. I took my wife to a Yamaha dealer and she really felt good on the back of the Venture.

All, I'm thinking about trading my 06 RSTD for a 07 RSV(blue & Black)..I'm question is does anyone feel that the RSV is "TOP HEAVY" due to the fairing? Is there a BIG diff in the handling ? Any feed back would be appciated....BTW, It's hard to get a dealer to let me test ride one here in Chicago Illinois THanks All Deacon

I am seriuosly considering buy a new 05 RSTD. What scares me is what I have been reading about a whining and a chirping noise that some say is really loud and aggrevating. Is this common on all RSTD bikes? I know I probably wouldn't like to hear these noises cruising at highway speeds.Some say the noise problem can be fixed, some say it will never go away. I just don't want to have to get rid of the bike soon after I buy it. I like everything else about the bike. I know all new bikes have their problems. But is this a serious enough problem to keep somebody from buying this bike? Your honest comments will be appreciated.

Hi Gang, Just a quick question, I did read the post and saw the illustration on rejetting in the Tech Section but I wanted to know if anyone has done this on a 06 RSTD. Actually to that point what other Mods can be done to this bike. I love the size and look of this bike, I added the Baron Bag slashes. I like the sound but think the pipes are constructed somewhat cheap. I also get popping, and done all the reccomended things but to rejet and open the airbox a little. I love the bike, I just want to make it the best it can be. Any help would be great!!! Pedro

I am considering an 07 rstd. I owned an 05, and traded it for a roadliner. I love the roadliner for what it is, but miss the rstd, and will probably buy another one. My question is, are the new ones coming with the I basket to squelch the whine/chirp that is so common? I changed the basket on my 05 with fair results, but do not want to go thru the hassel over again on another one. My dealer was great, and took care of it no problem, but it is still a hassel. Its to cold now to test ride the 07, and a ride will tell the story. Just wondering what you all know about this. If the 07 bikes are still chirping, someone at Yamaha needs an AXX-KICKING!!!!

This change is not for me, I am Love the VFR and can do 600 to 800 mile days in the twisty stuff and not feel beat. The wife however, is a completely different story and I think the RSTD might fit the bill. So tell me please, brothers of the road, who here has gone from a SPORT-tourer to a Tourer and what are you thoughts. BTW looking at the RSTD as it has the best engine format ever for a motorcycle, the mighty V4.

Does anyone know of a wiring harnes that is available to hook up trailer adapter without cutting into wiring? I knoe they make them for cars, but did not know if they are available for RSTD or RSV.

During my 5 day trip I noticed my rstd doesn't always start with the first push of the starter button. Very seldom does it start on the first try. My Vulcan starts always with the first try. Is this usual? Also my buddie was riding an rstd and his didn't start first time many times either. Any comments on this. hello all, Statement: I have a rear fender rack for my 97 RSTD. Question: Does anyone know what other years it would fit? (I'm thinking of selling it on ebay and I think that fact might be helpful). thanks in advance.

I can't remember which screw on the right side syncs those two together. Is it the left or right looking from the left side? Remember 97' RSTD not venture or newer RS they are different. Gene Weir:confused24:

I have the Ultimate set up on my 97 RSTD. I wnt to have the option to change it to a solo bike but in doing so, I lose the backrest that;s with the Ultimate passenger seat. Does anyone know if there's a backrest out there that will work with the drivers Ultimate seat? Thanks! Andy -
I have noticed that most vendors who sell Bub Sleepers list them as fitting the later model RSV'S, but does the same slip on fit the RSTD? Does the Samson application for RSV's fit the RSTD. I have an o6. Thanks, Jim

I have a 05 RSTD and I purchased a Venture trunk off an 05 Venture. Is it possible, or has anyone mounted one to their RSTD? I'd appreciate any tips, advise, and just general help. Thanks

I just got home from picking up my new rstd, and it seems to indicate more miles than I know it is to my house. CAN THE ODOMETER possibly be indicating kilometers rather than miles, and if so how do I change it? I cannot find any info on this either in the owners, or service manual. I know I can switch it on my FZ1, but can the odometer be switched on the Rstd?

I had a driver backrest on my last rstd, that I liked a lot, and would like to buy another for my next bike, but cannot remember he name. The people also made center stands for the rstd. The backrest had a pouch on the back of it and folded for easy mounting. It was easy to install, and well made. Do any of you remember who might have made, and sold it?

The driving light on the right side is very lose and I cannot tighen it up. Feel like the threads are stripped. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem beside geting a new one. 1997 RSTD. Hate the driving light design. Gene Weir
