    rotor

Well I reckon I now have a right front rotor available if someone needs it.86-93 Venture Royale.
  2. I found a crack in my left front brake rotor on my 86VR,if anyone has one I could sure use it.Cant ride till I find one:crying:My email is eyehook@aol.com or call me at 904-534-4059.
  3. 2 questions (this pertains to my 83 Venture) - 1. I bought one of the fork braces that Condor was so kind to arrange a group buy for us this spring, and am just now getting around to installing it. It appears to be just a bit larger than my original, and I can't get it to slip into position. I loosened the pinch bolts as suggested in Condor's instructions, but no change. I am also working on installing a pair of chrome rotor covers (see below), so i went ahead and pulled the axle and allowed the wheel to drop down an inch or so (rotors are still just slightly in the calipers). None of this has made any difference in the clearance for the fork brace. When I set the original brace over the new brace, it does look a bit larger - about the size of the bevel that runs around the outer edge of the new brace - just eye-balling it, I would guess it is about a millimeter oversize on each end . Has anyone else who purchased these had a similar problem? 2. I bought a pair of chrome rotor covers last winter on eBay and after doing some searches on this site, found that originally they came with a replacement spacer that accounted for the extra width of the covers. When I pulled the axle, I expected a spacer/washer of some kind on the right side (since the speedometer assembly is on the left). The only kind of "spacer" on the entire assembly was a single collar-type piece that butts against the oil seal. This does not look at all like the diagram in the service manual (it shows 3 separate pieces). I have attached a picture. I was planning to turn down my spacer since I did not have a replacement. So the question now is whether I turn down the outer edge of this collar? (Don't see where i have much choice). Was just wondering if anyone had any insight into this. Windrider1983 (Mark Miller).
  4. I removed the rotor covers so that I could polish them up and just put them back on when I spoon on new tires next week. Didn't realize that one of them is weighted (right side) and today's shake down ride showed me why. Braking produced a high frequency vibration noise without the covers installed. Kinda like rubbing your finger around the top of a wine glass to get that humming noise. All the rotor bolts are torqued properly and in sequence. Seems odd that it would make a noise. I've seen pictures of other RSV's here without the covers but have not heard anyone report this noise before.
  5. Hi To All, Here Is My Problem: The Left Front Caliper Is Not Working At All. The Left Front Rotor Is In Very Bad Shape. After Checking The Threads In Tech. Talk For The First Gen. Vr I Know I Need To Rebuild The Caliper But When I Checked On The Purchase Of A New Lf Rotor I See That The Part Is Discontinued. But The Rf Rotor Is Still Offered. Are We Putting A Rf On The Lf Rotor, Should I Try To Buy A Used One? I Did Notice That I Am Getting Uneven Brake Pad Wear On All Three Calipers, Does This Mean Rebuilds On All Three? And Finally How Many "kits" Do I Need To Do The Rebuilds For The Front Calipers? When Looking At The Part Numbers, There Seem To Be Multiple Part Nos. Listed. I Know The "brake Thing" Has Been So Done Before But I Don't Feel "warm And Fuzzy" About Riding An 850 Pound Sled With Marginal Brakes. Any Help, Used Parts Or Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated. I Hate To Miss This Great Weather But Feel That This Issue Needs To Be Addressed Asap! Thanks Again, Skydoc_17
  6. Does anyone know if Yamaha made chrome rotor covers for the 1st gen VR's? I've seen a couple of bikes with them but the answer I always get when I ask the owner about them is that the bike had them when purchased. I am looking for a set so I can install a Ring of Fire. Any help from anyone?
  7. Got the wheel off and on the ground. Can't get the allen head bolts out. I have compared it with the new ones which appear to have standard right hand threads. The allen head socket already looked tweeaked, and had to tap allen wrench in to get it to seat. BUT THE DING_DONG THINGS WILL NOT BUDGE!! Stripped one head out, so tried the ole visegrips, but no luck. The rotor was chewed when I bought the bike at 14,000 miles, and now it seems it has be replaced once already and tightened by a gorilla. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Bubba
  8. I have a warped rotor .. right front... and just wanted to know if they are interchangeable (front to back, left to right, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  9. I have a few sets of the (Discontinued) Royal Star Chrome Rotor Covers that I'm going to put up for sale and I don't know what they're worth. I was wondering what VRs that have them paid for them... And what Caliper Covers did you use with these.. From what I understand is the RS Caliper covers won't work on the RSV. Thanks Maineac
  10. I've seen a number of people report uneven rear brake pad wear. I bought my '05 RSV used and it passed state inspection only 2500 miles ago, so I wasn't expecting any brake issues for a while. I was dismayed when I started hearing grinding in the rear brakes. When I checked the pads, the inner was down to metal and the outer had 3/8" left. It seems that the caliper is sticking. Has anyone got Yamaha to cover the caliper and/or rotor under warranty? The bike has about 17k miles on it. The rotor is only slightly scratched, should I replace it? Thanks for any info. Jake
  11. Anyone got a good rear brake rotor for an 84 Venture? I have a pulsing in the pedal operated brakes and last night removed the side bag and the rear rotor is warped. I guess the caliper must be sticking so it looks like I'll be rebuilding the brakes this winter. Thanks
  12. I just want to take a minute to thank 2 of our own here, Frank Andrews and Larry Skeels (Carbon One) I posted up about my rear rotor being destoryed from brake pad failure. Frank was the 1st to respond with "I have one that you can have" send me your address. Larry PM'd me and said during the meanwhile that I was waiting for the one from Frank, that I could use the one off his Midnight as it wasn't going to be used. I went to Larry's and grabbed the rotor and the brake pads that he had. He said to use it as long as I needed it and gave me the pads. Frank had let me know that he shipped the rotor, brake pads and the caliper as he switch his bike to a trike. I offered him money to atleast cover postage, to which he responded no, he was glad to be able to help. Now dont get me wrong here, I am extremely grateful for these gentlemens generosity. But it seems weird that it happened to me. I have done and will continue to do the same thing as they have done. If I have something and dont use it, I gladly will give it to a member in exactly the same way as Larry and Frank have done for me. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you both, it sure puts back faith in the human race when your on the recieving end on of a situation like this. This place is truly a brotherhood and family that never ceases to amaze me....thanks for taking the time to listen
  13. Just a quick call out, The rear rotor on my '99 is smoked, does anyone have a spare they are willling to let go of I'm going to check for a new one but that is going to take a few days. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it, or if a different rotor off another bike is compatable...Thanks folks
  14. Will 1987 rotors work on a 84 with original calipers? I have a warped rotor and may be able to get a set from an 87.
  15. Hello all, I'm new to this site and lookin for some information. I just bought a fixer upper from a friend of mine. Ot's a 92 Venture, so far I have replaced the vacuum lines to the cruise, carb boots which connect the carbs to the heads, repair the connections to the suspension controller(E4 error). Next on my list is to replace the rear brake rotor. It seems to be warped. When applying the brakes there is a definite shudder and the front rotors look fine. My question is what other bikes use the same rotor, are some of the front rotors the same as the rears? I have been searching ebay and there are a few out there. I am on a limited budget and looking for a deal.
  16. Will an 86-93 rear rim and rotor fit on an 83-85 Venture, and also without having to change the rotor if it does?? I have a '88 rim and I thought it might be easier to take it down to the local bike store and have a new VenomX I have mounted on it and then do the R&R on the '83 all at once.
  17. First Generation Venture Starter Clutch Repair Thanks to GeorgeS for the GREAT write-up On my 89, I completed pulling the Rotor and Starter Engage Clutch Assembly today. --- Here Is what I found ---- ---- One of the three mounting bolts, was--- loose---- and backed out about 1/2 turn!!!!! It appeared to have not had any Loctite applied at the Factory. ---- The other two mounting bolts were Tight, they -- Obviously--- had Loctite applied at the Factory Installation. -----One of the small springs was bent, another had damage on the end, and the third appeared to be OK ----- One of the spring caps, had lots of wear on the open end, and tip. Other two, not bad. ----- The about 1/2 Inch thick material that makes up the Center of the " Starter Engage Unit " ( which appears to be Brass, its copper color, but much harder then copper) Has a Crack completely through it !! Another photo of Cracked engage Unit. Also the ElectriX After market Stator. ( For anybody who may be interested, note the larger diameter wire, than they used on the Stock Stator units ) Another comment, on pulling the Rotor, It did not move Until it finally came off. It Flew Off. After applying heat for about 30 seconds, on the 4th try, of heating and Tapping with hammer, it flew off, went about 2 feet. ( I used an Automobile harmonic balancer puller, you will need to buy 3, 8mm bolts, 3 1/2 inch long, fine thread ( 1.25 pitch ) ( High Strength Steel bolts ) for the rotor pulling job. Also a butane soldering torch will come in handy ( map gas, whatever you have for heat ) I did not find any Damage on the 72 tooth Gear, behind the Rotor. -----I'm adding a close up view, of the three Mounting Bolts, so you can see the " Staking method " used by the Factory, as called for in the Service Manual. One bolt was loose so, obviously they did not Do It Right. Note: In the photo below, see the 8mm 1.25 thread pitch " Tap " I used to clean out the threads in the bolt holes. This is the best way to remove the Old Loctite there, before reassembly, be sure to clean threads with solvent, before reinstalling the " NEW " bolts that you are going to order , when you order your New " Starter Clutch Engage Unit " -----Also adding Photo close up of the springs + weights that fit into the assembly. ( Note: the Crack in the Brass material ) -----Also Photo of Starter, and Gear Drive to the 72 tooth sprocket. ----- Also view of Entire Engage Unit as to how it fits to the flywheel ( rotor ) -----------My, Entire Engage Unit, needs to be Replaced. --------- -------The Unit has 57,300 miles on it.------ ------- The first time I heard the noise was around 20K. -------- I have Done All the Other Fixes as discussed on this web site: This is the first time I have pulled the Rotor Off. It took me about 4 hours, but I'm retired, and I don't work fast for anybody anymore !!! ( that includes the wife !!! ) Still waiting for the New Parts to get here. ( Going to be 50 F tomorrow !! well I guess I will just have to ride the Busa until I get this job done , Darn !!! )
