1. Does anyone know what size; grade etc.. the bolt is that goes through the engine/frame at the front top of the mount? Thanks
2. Many thanks to Earl (Skydoc_17) for the inspiration. I had the mirror stem and just bought the cell phone mount. I like how the phone enters car mode when inserted in to the dock for simple operation. I didn't even know that this mode existed. Ill probably clean it up a little more and shoot the back side with a little black paint.
3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-YAMAHA-VSTAR-PASSING-LIGHT-MOUNT-KIT-1999-2011-ROYAL-STAR-VENTURE-/170813894719?hash=item27c54d303f&item=170813894719&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr Thought somebody might need this. If I remember they are pretty costly??
4. I have an '86 scoot and this year I decided to make some wind deflectors to protect my hands better and hopefully widen the air bubble a bit too. They turned out well so I thought I'd share them with you all. After a few nights in the shop tinkering I came up with a design that looks good, does not require you to drill holes to mount and works great as well. Basically it is very straight forward, I used the existing body mount locations to mount the wings. The lower support is from a metal clip board (thin and stiff) and the heads of the bolts fit in the recesses of the faring covers. The upper mount is a 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum that I put in a vice and twisted it. This turns out to be the trickiest piece to fit, but well worth the effort. Mike
5. Ditched chopped up HD fairing and ordered a RS fairing from http://www.recklessmotorcycles.com. It fit perfectly with a homemade mount. Its going to get redone too but it works for now. http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?center=34.808488,-77.362685&zoom=14&markers=34.808488,-77.362685&size=400x300&sensor=true
6. I started working to modify my 2006 RSTD to make it more comfy for my wife and to add a little more storage space for long trips. It is a work in progress but so far I've added a Venture trunk mount with grab bars, a third party Harley tour pack and a genuine Harley passenger backrest. I also found a vintage Harley trunk trim piece that I bought on a whim, for little of nothing but it worked out pretty good I think. I also added Harley hooded trim rings to my passing lamps. I've added a nice and loud Steibel air horn that has gotten folk's atttention on more than one occasion. I plan to add some lights to the trunk mount and get the trunk painted to match the bike. Once that's done I plan to start on a batwing fairing. The jury is still out on which one to go with, but I'm kind of a penny pincher and am considering the Stealth at USA trailers. I also added some Road King pipes that sound really sweet! I've got less than $100 in the slip ons, clamps and fabricated nount! Anyway, I thought that I would share my project with you guys and if any of you have suggestions on the fairing, feel free to send them along! PS. Please excuse my shop! I know it's a mess, but it is warm and dry!
7. I needed a new battery so I priced them everywhere, the only place that could beat them was a Scooter Shop here in Newnan. He does sell motorcycles, but thats another story. I went in to pick up my new battery and starting looking around his shop and saw a rear box on an upper shelf. It looked exactly like what I wanted for my V Star, it sorta matches the lines of my bags and the bike, so I looked at it, it is of fair size made, of abs as are most body parts these days, has a radio antenna built into it, not that I will use it, locking lid. He saw I was interested so he said make him an offer on it, he had two in stock and they had been there for a couple of years, they were rather dusty. He then said they normally retailed for $80.00, If he would have told me that before I looked at it, I wouldnt have looked because at that price it had to be junk, so I offered him $35.00, he countered $40.00. So I now have a new rear box to mount, but nothing to mount it too, I need to get a luggage rack to mount it too, or have one made up. Wish me luck.
8. Hey all, I've managed to break the car mount for my Garmin Zumo 550. Darn thing lost suction on the windshield and fell on the dash breaking the input jack. I use it in the truck during the winter to listen to XM radio. I'm probably going to just buy a new one online, but thought I'd ask if anyone might want to sell theirs. This is what it looks like. http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/zumo-car-mount--gallery-msg-132621887928.jpg Bob
9. I have a GoPro HERO camera with all the included mounts. I've scanned the forum here for mounting suggestions. I'm still a bit unclear on where best to put the mount/camera. I would like to have a central location (suction cup on gas tank?). I do not want to helmet mount the camera because I tend to "lollygag" (look around a lot!!) and that would cause the video be rather erratic. I would like the central/middle location so that the instrumentation is also visible if possible. What are the opinions/problems with mounting on the fairing lower or even the front fender? Also...the camera does not have a safety lanyard. I can rig up a nylon cord of course but was also wondering if anyone has another recommendation?
10. Hi All Some of you my have seen that I have a new toy 1988 1500 Gold wing. The past owner put the NY state inspection sticker on the lower front fender. I really do not like this location. Do any of you have any other spots that may look good? I have been looking at chrome plates that mount like on the crash bars. Thanks Bull463
11. Any one have any opinions on this Garmin 1390. I was especially interested in the blue tooth feature. Radio Shack has them for 129.99 LMT. Not sure if it is a refurbished one or not. Also anyone purchased one of these GN032 + WPCS2 Bike Mount & Case, Garmin Nuvi 1390T 1690 from ebay. It is not water proof, but was interested in its capabilities of working the touchscreen through the plastic face case?
12. I have an 02 RSMV with a Hannigan Classic sidecar. I also have a Shadow trailer I want to mount to the RSMV. I need to offset the ball six inches to the right of the center of the bike. If I don't do this my bike/sidecar/trailer will be wider than my Ram 1500 pickup. I need some ideas.
13. Anyone know where one can get stainless steel or chrome channeled U shape long bracket (The U channel be 1 in X 1 in X 1 in and about the length of the rear trunk mount) where it could be mounted under the far rear of the trunk mount so the open end is to the front on the bike and the closed end is facing the rear of the bike where I could install from Custom Dynamics Sequential Amber LED Turn Signals on the ends and in the center a Custom Dynamics LED Stop Lamp. Then under the bracket I could install a couple of white lights hooked to a push switch where I can get the attention of cagers approaching dangerously. Even an L shape bracket would work. Or maybe someone has a good suggestion as to where one could mount the lights described, except drilling into the plastic trunk for an MKII.
14. I would like to see how some of you have mounted your GPS's. Thanks.
15. I bought this Yamaha backrest for my 86 VR. The ad said that it was for an 83-84. I hope its also for an 86! http://www.raymondstacy.com/backrest.jpg Now I don't know how to mount it. Does anyone have a closeup of how it mounts or is it simple enough to just tell me how its done? Thanks! Ray
16. I need to get new tire valves for my 02 RSMV. Does anyone know the size and vendor to get them from? I want 90 degree front and rear. I am going to mount the rear one facing the right side to make it easier to check and probably the same for the front. Thanks in advance!
17. anyone put a cup holder on a 83 venture ? if so which kind did ya get and where did you mount it so its easy to get to and not in the way?
18. Finally got to put my hitch on. I still will have to get me a couple of those chrome acorn head-nuts for the chrome bolts through the fender trim. I am going to also put some black silicone around the rear mud guard, where I cut it to install the hitch. But I think I will wait until I get done with the flag mount I am going to make for the hitch. I am thinking of using the flag mount hitch idea I got from someone here. I will get me a coupling stinger to go from the small size to the 2" size and also put an extra brake light into the end of the receiver from Wall-Mart ($12.00). I will mount my flag to the top of this and still have an open and easy to see brake light. I also designed those mud guards on my bike, and a good friend whom works with leather saddles and so on made them for me out of 1/4 inch thick leather. Just in case some one is wondering from the pictures. You see, I am following the rules... Fuzzy PS; Also included in these pictures is one of the copperhead snakes that myself and the rest of the mowing tractor crew (State Hwy Dept.) have killed this year. We have killed 4 so far. All of them from out on St Hwy 801 next to the Cave Run Lake area. If you visit this area, be very couscous around the ditch lines on the roadways. This is one of the mid size ones. There was one that was bigger than this one. We killed this one while slope mowing last week.
19. I'm looking for information on: 1. Where to get a driver back-rest for my '83? and 2. How to mount it? Did they even make back-rest for the '83?
20. I am a proud member or the Ohio Patriot Guard Riders. I would like to mount a 3x5 flag on my 2006 RSTD. I have seen other mounts that are all homemade. Does anyone have a mount on their bike I could copy for dimentions? TY for you input folks. MoS
21. I have a 2008 RSTD and want to add spotlights. I purchased as set that were original equipment to early 2000's Indian, which has the turn signal built into the bottom of the spotlight housing. They mount fine on the RSTD spotlight bar. Does anyone have a diagram of how these get wired into the right circuit? I have seen where RSTD owners have added a toggle switch for on / off. Where do folks mount that toggle switch? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.
22. The wife bought me three 18" red LED light strips to mount on the RSV, which I'll probably mount under the tank rim so that they will light up the chrome in the engine area. Just not sure about what kind of on/off switch to get or the best place to mount it. Any suggestions?
23. Apparently I am search challenged.. I have searched everywhere I can think of and can't seem to find the answer I just put together my bike trailer and will be ordering the hitch and Hoppy adapter/isolator. I also plan to mount a fuse box. I am thinking there is enough room under the seat of my 2005 RSTD to mount the fuse block but where does everyone tie into the wiring for the Hoppy?? I have seen a couple of threads where people menitoned splicing into the area at the tail light... Sorry for the questions, just get a little paranoid when messing with the electrical system and don't waht to fry anything.. Anything with pics would be great... Thanks.. Robert C.
24. Other PGR members here I am sure. I am looking into mounting the 3 foot x 5 foot flag to my bike for missions. I want to make the mount and the pole myself and any and all help would be appreciated. I have saw such things in some other sites (Harley) and can not get to the pics and other info with out becoming a member first. Not much on the Ky PGR site either. So far I have come up with very little. Maybe a clothes rod holder for the pole. So your help would be nice. I love pics please. I have searched for hours and many locations on the net and have not gotten any real good info. So I decided to post here and see what others here have done with our bikes. Thank you in advance. I now build these myself. Go here www.jandjflagmounts.com PS; I have come to the conclusion that if someone could come up with a universal type mount, then it would help others. I have decided to build my own and maybe some for others. I can sell a few and save a little gas money for the missions. The Patriot Guard Riders is becoming more and more popular, growing every day. Fuzzy
25. I looking for a clean and professional look when I mount the 5 flat plug on the bike. Have looked at the back of my 08 RSV and can't seem to decide how or where to mount the plug. I'm pretty picky, but know there are others on here that are picker than I and also wanted a clean look. So the question is how and where did you mount your trailer plug. Thanks.
