  1. During our annual spring ride, my younger brother (Scott) let all the oil out of his Honda Shadow Aero 1100 in western Texas. He has been debated whether to part it out, or have it fixed. The local shop advised it would be $1500 to $1800 to fix it depending on what needs replaced/repaired. Well........ I have fooled Scott into thinking I was a decent wrench and he is having the dead bike shipped up here (from Dallas) for me to work on. Just what I need - another project. Like the 2 dead bikes in the shop aren't enough. Anyhooo, it will be fun to tear it apart knowing that if it can't be fixed, I can just buy a used engine an stick it in there. Be about $1000 to go that route. Yeah, I know, if we were to do this, it would have been easier and cost about the same to have the local shop do it. It will all be worth it to watch the expression on my wife's face when this bike is rolled off the truck and into the garage. As of this point, she knows nothing about it and thinks I spent too much time/money on the bikes already (she may have a point, but I will not acknowledge it). Anybody have a Honda Shadow 1100 engine laying around? I believe anything from 1998 to 2004 will fit. RR
  2. Some local riders (approximately 400 of them) came out to protest the safety of one of our main highways and one of the most beautiful riding roads around our area. A road that guys like Rocket and thousands of others have to drive every day to get to and from work. My friend Jana was killed on his motorcycle in July this year on the access highway to this road by a drunk driver that crossed the center line at noon on a holiday weekend and now another local rider lost his life last weekend when a car crossed the center and hit him head on at 50 mph each. The car driver it seems had a medical issue causing the accident but a barrier would have saved the rider at least. It does make some of us and our loved ones scared every time we start up our bikes. I would have been riding with Jana in July if I had not gone to a family reunion for my wife's family. http://www.timescolonist.com/news/Motorcyclists+demand+improved+safety+Malahat/5665455/story.html Be safe out there, I now a lot of you have parked for the winter but here riding is a 12 month a year hobby. Kevin
  3. I need help finding replacements for the four hard rubber round washers that mount between the luggage rack and the trunk lid on an 08 RSV. I removed the rack to do some power polishing and the washers seemed to have grown legs and walked away. I have checked every local hardware store and those they have are either too small/large, or wrong strength and curl up on edges when tightened. Local dealer says I will most likely have to order another rack just to get the washers. I don't think so! Any help is greatly appreciated.
  4. Hey guys. Many of you will have been terrorised lately by Annie and Al visiting you from down-under. I'm very pleased that she has returned, as I've bought her Wedgetail Outrider from her to fit to my 2004 RSV. Mind you it has to be shipped from one side of the country to the other, but nevertheless it will be worth it. I'm sure the Wedgetail is known by another name in the States, so here's a link to the local site if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'll let you know how I go with it and post photos when done. Cheers, Spear. http://www.wedgetailoutriders.com.au/
  5. :fingers-crossed-emoI went on a 200 mile first ride after replacing all the bushings in the swing arm and replacing the rear shock. IN my 83 xvz12 all went well. I then went out on sat to the local coffee hang out, and the rear calaper hung up. So I went to the local Yamaha dealer and picked up an "O" ring kit, thats all thats in the calaper rebuld kit. after replacing the "O"rings in the calaper, It still locked up after aprx. 10 miles.:confused24:The calaper attaches to an arm, that appers to have the abilaty to floot, The book is not helping me in replacing the axal and spacers, I think I must have eather put a spacer, or washer in the wrong place, that, or I'm tightining the axal wrong, I need some help,
  6. Stopped by the local Yamaha shop and they had a Supere Tenere' on the floor. Got a chance to sit on it, stand it up, look it over really close. The owner (who I know) came over to chat and answer questions. Oh My, is that a nice bike. 1200 cc of adventure riding goodness. The owner offered to let me take it for a ride. I declined realizing that would be real trouble for me. I can't afford the alimony (and we have two kids in college and two more that are high school seniors - next year is going to be REALLY expensive). Most, if not all, the farkles are released for this model since the Tenere' has been in Europe for a couple of years. And Then to Top It Off...... I get home and there is a box on the porch from Touratech!!. My lock and cable for the Garmin 276C mount arrived. Included in the box was the TT catalog with all the Tenere' stuff. Mmmmmmm, tasty. This may be a problem. RR
  7. I got this from my dad a long time ago. He's from the Washington State area. Had an opportunity yesterday to actually use it. Local park hosted a campout night. Kids had fun http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Camping%2006_25_2011/DSCN0017.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Camping%2006_25_2011/DSCN0037.jpg
  8. I was on a PGR mission in Columbia, Ky. yesterday Sat. (5/28/11). Spotted 2 RSV's riding together out of town on hwy. North 55 about 11:20 local time. About 1 hr later they rode back through town past the funeral home we were standing post at. Was it you, were you just passing through or are you local and I haven't met you yet? C.R.
  9. With buying cheap batteries. I got a new Odyssey on the way.The last 3 local specials last about 1 year. Wife gave the order to get the 89 on the road.
  10. Hello Everyone: I am trying to help another local rider. Does anyone have a set of bar end weights that were on a RSTD? Thanks....
  11. What would be the proper relay to wire the passing lamps? I'm assuming that something like this could be purchased from the local auto parts store.
  12. i have an escapade trailer with the old style 1157 bulbs in in it , is there an easy way to convert these to leds? i have found flat led plates at the local auto supply but wondering whats needs to be done to swap over thanks for the help steve
  13. We have had below freezing temps since Christmas. Today I wake up and it is 10C (50F) and Muddy... Our local groundhog predicted and early spring... hmmmm?
  14. Somewhere in Texas A lady was telling her neighbor that she saw a man driving a pick-up truck down the interstate, and a dog was hanging onto the tailgate for dear life! She said if the pick-up truck driver hadn't been going so fast in the other direction, she would have tried to stop him. A few weeks later, her neighbor saw this truck at the local Bass Pro Shop. The pick-up truck driver is a local TEXAS taxidermist with a great sense of humor! Taxidermists are a twisted lot anyway! And, it's not a dog in the 1st Place ; it's a Coyote. Can you imagine how many people tried to stop this guy? http://f814.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f23907%5fAIXHjkQAAHWCTQWiAQynOxMY7EU&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1
  15. Hello all I am looking ot find a new 2008 Charcoal Silver or 2009 Sandstone/Raven RSV. I live in WV but am willing to travel some. There is a dealer about 70 miles from me that has the 2009, for $16k. Felt that was pretty high. (input please) It will be March/April time frame for my purchase, but starting to get ducks in a row now. If any of you are at your local dealer and notice one of these, please post or email me directly. My local dealers are shady at best for helping locate a bike they won't make any $$$ on. I currently ride a 2008 Kawasaki ZX-14, but can't wait to get back into the slower paced ride of life. I got rid of a Honda Sabre and Kawasaki Concours, 1st gen, when I got the 14, now I want to replace both of those with the RSV. The ZX will not leave, cause there is just something about the "go fast" aspect I can't seem to grow out of. Thanks for the anticipated help. Chris
  16. Just bought my 2007 RSTD this past weekend with 2200 miles and factory warranty till March 2013. I trailered her home and then had to take it straight in to the local dealer for a recall. Something about the heads needing to have the torque checked? Is anyone aware of any other recall issues with the 2007 RSTD?
  17. Our local Yamaha Dealer "Oxford Michigan" will close the doors this week. Everything is 50 per cent off. I guess another dealer took all the bikes off his hands. I got some oil, air cleaners, brake pads both front and rear, chain lube, "for my DRZ", cleaning supplies and some other stuff. What a shame. They always treated me well. They were only 5 miles away. Now the nearest will be 20. Still not bad.
  18. This is something local bikers do every year. We meet at a local Veterans Hall and ride to a cemetery in the next town that has a Veteran monument for a small service. Over 100 bikes. My bike and "ol lady" on the far right.
  19. Happy Birthday, Donald! Hope you have a great day! Good day for a bike ride to the local DQ!!!
  20. I for the most part over the years have been happy with them. I am not crying over the recent lost of some Fox programming. One side says this and the other says that. Who knows what is really going on. The truth is somewhere in the middle I suspect. I do (well did) watch SOA. I won't be any longer if or until they reach an agreement. If not, oh well. I am not leaving sleep over it. Kids and I did like National Geographic channel though. Just means more Nick Jr. for them. Anyway starting my story now. I am window shopping to either go back to cable or another satellite provider as hoping to find something a bit cheaper for the same channels I like. I wanted to compare the channel lineups from the others vs. Dish. I do this by printing the lineups for each provider. So I am on the Dish Site and do not log in. I click on the learn more button under the current programming (America's top 250 btw). There is a field labeled Region. I enter in my zip code and press the thing that looks like a sideways triangle. To the far right of that in small letters there is a button that says print. I clicked on it which takes me to another page and a print dialog. I click cancel on the print dialog. I scroll all the way to the bottom and in the local channel section I don't get my local channels. I have tried this several times. I have gotten San Fran, Houston, Evansville (at least closer), and tonight DC. Obviously not Indy. So I e-mailed the web-master saying your site ain't working right and here is the steps I took. I get a response saying local programming is not offered in my area. Uh, yeah it is. Part of response to them was did you actually try and do the same thing as me before you responded? So here is the experiment for everyone here. Follow the steps as I did and see if you get the same type of results.
  21. Left the house with the better half with all intentions to head for the local Yamaha Dealer to buy a brand new Venture. But, got side tracked and stopped by the local Toyota dealer. Came home with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma double cab all dressed out. Oh well, that'll teach me. Maybe next time.
  22. I webt to the local Princess Auto and saw a vacume bleeder for $40something....I think it was $42.00 Anyone know where I can do better? any recomendations of one brand over another?
  23. Does anyone know someone who paints trucks. I have an 04 trailblazer which the clear is peeling, slight paint fade, and some rust starting at the bottom of the rear doors. Truck does not have 60,000 miles on it. Phoned around here and the numbers seem a bit high, Four grand, Ouch, plus our local 13 percent taxes. Would be willing to drive it somewhere Northern Ontario, Michigan, New York. Any Ideas ? Brad
  24. A local riding buddy had a interesting nature call last weekend. While riding the backroads of WV natures call hit him with no rest stop available. He found a wide spot on one of those lonely highways and dropped the kickstand for a quick trip to the bushes. As he was getting off the bike bee's were everywhere. Thinking they were yellowjackets he took off running then turned around to find his bike covered in honey bee's. His riding buddy gave him a lift to the next gas station where he called a local bee keeper and paid him to come out and remove the swarm. I LMAO when he told me this story this morning.
  25. I just installed floorboard extensions on my roadstar and now the rear brake line is too short. Any thoughts on where to find one made to order. I checked with the local shops so I'll have to order it.
