  1. I'm looking for a new seat for my 06 Venture. The one on mine is not the 'puffy pillow' seat.. but the other kind. I've seen the Butt Butler mod being sold here but got nil response from Mr Butler (is he still making these?). Ideally I'm looking for something that will bring me lower down as later I plan to install the leveling links, which raises the bike. I'm not sure if I want to add a 'padded' cover as this will then raise me up in the seat.. Anyway, short version is that I'm seriously looking for a seat solution.. hoping someone can help.. Cheers
  2. As I promised earlier here are some pictures of the Pit Bull lift. This is the air operated and I feel it was worth the extra money spent. You can use just the jack if you wish. The boxes. The lift ships at 110 pounds. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/002.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/005-1.jpg Next we opened her up. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/006-3.jpg Here are the Venture adapters. $39.00 for these. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/007-1.jpg Next install the front wheels making sure the locking nuts are started correctly. Really only one way to mount. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/012-4.jpg Next mount the jack to the lift. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/013-4.jpg Install the lift locks. These prevent the lift from moving. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/015-3.jpg Swing the saddle over the bottle jack as shown here. You can adjust the top part of the bottle jack for more height. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/016.jpg Install the air chuck assembley. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/019.jpg Here are the Venture adapters. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/021.jpg And the finished assembly. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/022-1.jpg I can not post pictures of lifting the bike at this time. Just a little warm in Arizona so it's ready to be trailered to cooler areas. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/009-1.jpg I was considering a table style of lift but just don't have the room. This should work with the Hayabusa after fairing removal. Pit Bull had $50.00 off when I purchased this model. Shipping was $80.00 at that time. Not cheap but a very well made motorcycle lift. hh
  3. Anybody have any suggestions on a less expensive alternative to the Yamaha luggage rack for an '06 RSV? If so, are they relatively easy to install?
  4. I have been trying to install the Modulite trailer lighting module tonight and am having a problem. I have followed the instructions in the tech area and am sure that I have all the wires correct. Problem is when I connect the last wire..........brown (tail) from the modultie to the blue on the bikes harness.................... not only do i not get lights on the trailer, I also loose my light bars. Any thoughts on what might be causing this??????????? I would really like to finish this tonight and put the bike back together.
  5. After studying the posts on this site, I decided I would install a Bartlett clutch in my '86 Venture. Everything came out just fine, but, I think there may be a problem. Is the clutch boss supposed to have any play in it? I can get a slight wobble out of it. I hadn't planned on taking it off, but will for sure if this "play" is abnormal. I would very much appreciate some advice here.
  6. I have a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer and getting ready to install the wheel chock (BTW-Thanks DoubleD) It is a single axle. Any suggestions where to install it? I think if I went all the way to the front the tongue weight would be too much. I guess it also may depend on how the existing d ring tie downs are positioned because I want to make sure at least the front ones provide the ability to compress the front forks. Oh, and before you trailer biggots start in on me:whistling: I'm not going to be hauling my bike. I am getting it installed to assist a friend whose bike was vandalized at his work. Thanks for any assistance.
  7. Anyone out there with instructions on how to wire up a Stebel horn for a Honda GoldWing Trike? A good friend of mine has a trike and wants me to install his Stebel horn for him. Any help is very much appreicated. Thanks, Jopie...

  9. I recently purchased this kit for my 05 RSTD. Darn thing won't install on my bike. The seller claims it installs inabout 15 minutes. When I tried to install the parts over the existing valve stems the little thingy that the air hose goes on hits the top of the triple tree cover. I tried removing the TT cover and then the kit installed no problem, however then the Triple Tree cover could not be reinstalled. What the H*LL? Anyone else have any experience with this problem? HELP!!!!! Snake:225:
  10. Found time to install the rails this morning. Yup, had to redrill the mounting holes in the rail. 30 minute job into several hours. They are now even and set just right. Thank you to the members who posted this needed fix. Yamaha could do much a much better job of quality control. hh http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/0043-1.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/0062.jpg

  17. He went up a little to far up with the powder coat, I will need to sand that off before i install them. They were right at $100.00 to have powder coated like this. I love them, pretty neat.
  18. For those of us that like a lot of lights for the cagers to see us with I found this on e-bay. For the price it looks good and took me all of 30 mins to install. http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-LED-Brake-Running-Light-Bar_W0QQitemZ330207470152QQihZ014QQcategoryZ35598QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Trailer D-Ring

I'm picking up my '07 Royal Venture Wednesday and I'm getting my trailer ready. I've got the wheel chock and front D-rings installed. Can anyone tell me how far back do I install the back D-rings? Thanks.
  20. Just purchased tires online. Some dealers won't install unless you purchase the tires from them. What would be a fair price to have front and rear tires installed.
  21. Can someone tell be how to take off the grips that come on the 2007 Venture. I want to put the Kuryakin grips on and the local stealer wants $80.00 to install them and I believe I can do it as long as I don't mess anything up getting them off. Thanks, Eddie

How do you folks install the maps with the places you traveled to on this site? Also thanks to everyone for the help on various repairs. Your all a great bunch of people looking out for each other.
  23. I have looked around and have not seen a specific write-up for the install of heated grips for the RSTD. So I thought that I would take a crack at writing something up based on my recent experience. The first thing that I did in preparation for this install was wire up a relay and terminal strip that I could use for power. I wanted power not just for this install but for future electrical accessories (lights, GPS, and communication system). I found great set of instructions for this at the Canyon Chasers site. Attached is a picture of how I installed mine under the seat (Relay.pdf). I tapped into an unused accessory plug that I assume is a leftover from the Venture wire harness. I tried to find something smaller than the terminal strip I used for distribution but it was inexpensive and it works. I have been unable to find the jumpers to energize the next terminal so I just made my own. I decided to retain the stock grips and install heaters from Dualstar. The price was a bargain (29.95 plus shipping) when comparing different heated grip systems. I struggled for a long time with where to install a switch. I didn’t want to spend much money on anything fancy, I didn’t want any bulky box or pod for switches and the RSTD doesn’t provide too many spaces to stick anything. I wanted something that was inconspicuous and settled on placing it in the plastic cover that conceals the frame and wiring that runs to the forks (Switch.pdf). I may regret this location because it isn’t easy to reach but I think the grips will be something I will not need to be flipping on and off frequently. If I am wrong with this location it will be easy enough to conceal and move on to something better when it comes to mind. The next challenge was getting the grips off. I took the counter weights off without a problem and used a small screwdriver and popsicle stick to pry loose the glue from the grips and worked them off. The next big surprise was the ridges on the throttle tube. I wasn’t expecting this and you must apply the heater to a smooth surface. With a lot of patience, a utility knife and a dremel I removed them and installed the heater element. The clutch side heater is about as simple as putting on a piece of tape and routing the wire down the bars. I did use the dremel to rework the chrome colar that goes with the grip to get a snug fit around the wires. I tested everything at this point and it was then that I ran into a snag. I had a short in the system. I called Dualstar. They helped me diagnose that the problem was on the clutch side and they sent a new one right away. They said they test every unit before it ships but I couldn’t see where I could have crimped or nicked anything thing to caused the problem. Regardless they took care of me. Moving on to terminating the wiring and powering things up… I had ran my power and ground from my terminal strip up under the tank to the switch and into the area under the chrome cowling that covers the speedometer display unit. Special Note: Removing that chrome cowling was a royal pain. It was held in place by three Philips screws that were installed with loctite and one head completely stripped out. Thanks heaven it was one on the out side, they are almost accessible. Had the center screw striped out I would still be standing in the garage swearing to myself wondering how to get it out. Needless to say I replaced the screws with Allen head bolts(Cowling.pdf). I soldered all my connections and put them in shrink-wrap tubing to keep things protected from vibration and the elements. The bundle of wires tucked up under the cowling neatly. I put things back they way they were and now I am waiting for the snow to melt and I can actually go for a ride. The heaters work great in the garage but I guess the big test will be in a few weeks when I can get out and go for a ride and see if they overcome the wind chill that my hands feel sticking outside the protection offered by the windscreen. Hope this helps any of you considering the install.
  24. Hi All, Trying to decide if this conversion really makes a big difference in the audio quality on the Venture. I am somewhat concerned for when I pull up the etronics site, the same model EQ that was used for the conversion is listed as 200 watts, but the conversion thread states it is 100 watt, so I suspect the manufacturer may be playing the number game. For those of you that have done this, was it worth the effort? For example, before you may have had to turn your volume to 25 to hear at highways speeds, but after this install, were you reaching the same point around 15 or so? Already upgrade my speakers on a 2006 Venture to Marine grade Polk Audio, but since I listen at high volume, I want to ensure I get enough power to the speakers to keep from harming them in the long run, so torn between the EQ install or an AMP, however I don't want to loose any truck space. Thanks for any help and advice!!!!! :confused24:
  25. This 86 has 97K on it but runs fair. It needs lots of tlc, steering head bearings, new rear tire, seat repair, etc. It pulls strong into the triple digits no slippage of clutch and brakes are good. All or part of it have to go.In the next 30 days I'm going to decide what to do with it. 1. sell it outright 2. part it out 3. partial part it out. lighten it up significantly and see what a rat venture looks like.I have a 89 engine with only 15k on it. I could install it just to see how it runs. This 86 still sounds good with 97K. 4. Buy some duct tape and run it. I bought this one last spring to part out. My brother wanted to try it out so he licensed it and rode it some last summer. He decided he was to short for it and has a problem with crossing my creek. Not many know how to surf on a first gen. Any ideas on what to do with it? No input from REDNECK either.:rotf:
