  1. Just to let everyone know. The VentureRider OPE fund sent a floral arrangemment to Jim Gorom at the hospital. It will be delivered Monday.
  2. Well tomorrow is the big day. I have to report to hospital at 6am for my schedualed hip replacement surgery at 7am. The wife and I had to go to a class friday morning which was very informative of the rehab process. I will be in hospital till thurs or friday. I will bookmark this thread so Sharon can come on and let you all know how it went. All the members going to Dons for MD ride safe and I will see ya there next year. John
  3. I am getting near the end of the items for the St. Jude Auctions. I have just posted a new auction for 1 Crusin for St. Jude T shirt( XX Large), 1 Crusin for St. Jude Hat, 1 Crusin for St. Jude Pin. Remember, all funds raised are going to the Kids at St.Jude Childrens Hospital. We will be organizing a ride in late September to deliver the monies to St. Jude in Memphis, Tn. Squidley and Snarley Bill are also raising funds for St. Jude with their own efforts and will also be joining the ride to Memphis. So, mark your calendar for the latter part of Sept. and join us on the wonderful ride. Last year we had 19 bikes from various parts of the U.S. and hopefully we will increase the attendance and the amount raised last year. My thanks goes out to all who have bid, donated items for auctions, and supported the great institution that St.Jude Childrens Hospital is..................Just remember its all for the Kids, our future depends on the youth of today and who knows some of them may have been helped by St. Jude. Danny Thomas did a wonderful thing when he founded this hospital back in 1962. I want to be a small part of keeping it going and growing. Thanks and God Bless each and every one of this great organization, especially our founder Freebird. Lewis & Charlene Cramer DragonRider & DragonLady
  4. Another fantastic member has stepped up and donated a couple of items for auction. These are going to be collectors items if they arent already. These are brand new, 2nd and 3rd printing, never out of the bag. I will be listing each one in its own auction, so if your a comic book collector you might want to add these to your collection. The donor is to remain unknown by request. So "unkown", thank you very very much for helping the Kids at St.Jude Children's Hospital.........
  5. How is Everyone doing on their dieting? It seems things have quieted down. Drop a line or two and let us know how you're doing. . .
  6. On Feb 18th my wife suffered a massive stroke to the right side of her brain. Getting her to the Hospital and having her treated with TPA SAVED HER LIFE. Check with your local Hospital concerning their use and the time restriction for the use of this drug. Our Hospital has a 3 HOUR window only for this drug use....In other words if the stroke victim is NOT in the Hospital within 3 hours of the the stroke striking the drug will not be used. My wife spent 4 days in Intensive Care.....she is now in a Rehab Unit and is scheduled to come home on the 4th of March!!! The recovery process that this drug has provided for my wife is nothing short of amazing and fantastic........ ***Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA) AHA/ASA Recommendation We strongly urge people to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they believe they're having a stroke or heart attack. The sooner tPA or other appropriate treatment is begun, the better the chances for recovery. Boomer........Grateful for modern medicine in the USA.
  7. Just got off the phone with Gary. He survived the surgery and except for the fact that the hospital is trying to starve him, he is doing well. He expects to be released tomorrow or possibly Friday. If anyone would like to give him a call, he has a phone in his room. Forgot to get his room number, but the number for the hospital switchboard is 1.218 732.3311. Ops, his last name is Kloehn.... Sorry bout that.
  8. Just wanted to express my thanks to everyone who is helping support the kids at St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Lewis just posted another auction so just want to let everyone know that I have opened up the bidding with the first bid.................
  9. Today we said our final good-byes to a fellow co-worker who passed away last Tuesday. She was only 30 years old and worked on my team. Vibrant happy and one heck of an officer who took no guff from anyone. She has left a hole in my shift that will be hard to replace. She was to be at work with us that day but had booked sick. We received the call early afternoon from another co-worker who said she was being taken to the hospital but not to worry as she was alert and talking with the attendents. By the time the ambulance got to the hospital she was gone. She had a blood clot that travelled from her leg to her lungs. Its a shame. See you Allison.
  10. I know some folks here have been assisted by Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude Children's Hospital. On this upcoming trip the folks at St. Jude have arranged for us to have a tour of the RD House across the street from St. Jude. This house only houses patients that are being treated by the hospital, and are put up there for however long it takes for the patients to receive their treatments, and they are housed free of charge. This is a fantastic service that is being performed by both orginizations for those that are not able to pay for the care they need to conquer this dreaded disease. I am looking forward to seeing the RD House. I dont know if many of you know the history behind St. Jude Hospital. It was founded by Danny Thomas in 1962 to treat and try to find a cure for cancer, especially children that are stricken by this dreaded disease. The families pay nothing for the treatment and care provided by the Hospital. St. Jude doesnt have many patients that stay in the hospital for any longer that it takes for them to recieve their daily treatments, so RD house is one of the many facilities that provides temporary housing, free of charge, for those patients and their families while they recieve their treatment. Danny Thomas in no longer with us, but his legacy is still being carried on by his childern and their families. Marlo Thomas (That Girl from the tv sitcom some time back) is the main spokesperson for the hospital, but the whole family is on the board. So if anyone wants to join us this coming Saturday, Oct. 18, we will be meeting in W. Memphis, Arkansas, for lunch at the Flying J Truck Plaza between 11:00-12:00. From there we will be taking a short ride over to Memphis, Tn. to present the donations raised by "Inked for St. Jude" that was initiated by Squidley and Sleeperhawks Mechanic, and as an added bonus they will be showing off their tats, which were the impetus behind the fund raising............So come on out for some fun, fellowship, good food and a great experience that will leave you with a great feeling of accomplishment in these troubled times.

  13. OK... how do I begin. Lets get straight to it. Yesterday at around 4pm just east of Devils Lake, Big Bob had a serious crash. He left the bike at around 62 miles per hour. He was taken to Devils Lake hospital and then life flighted to GrandForks as Devils Lake didnt have the type of care he needed. He is alive and unless there is a serious change he will stay that way. His injuries consist of this head injury, plus several stitches on his forehead...they did a nice job doing that. eye injury...they are quit worried about him loosing the right eye. 6 broken ribs and possible lung injury which they are very concerned about. broken wrist which has had surgery and will likely need more. some but not much road rash from the sleeve of his leather jacket being pushed up his arm. broken or fractured disc...they dont seem too worried about this as he was moving his legs after the crash. Details about the crash. He had fallen back and had told us he was going to. Then the last bike Pete, reported that he couldnt see him anymore even on the long straights. We stopped and Marilyn turned around and went to see what was up. While she was gone a soldier stopped and asked us if we were riding with another gentleman with a white bike. Yes....well he crashed and was back near the rest stop. We turned our bikes around and headed there....Marilyn in the mean time was racing back to us trying to call us on the cb to tell us the news. She had arrived just as they were working on him. She was almost sick. Another lady raced across the highway and told her he was alive and was going to Devils Lake hospital. We arrived on scene to find his bike and trailer totally demolished in the center median. The persons following him said he was doing 62 miles per hour (8 mph below the speed limit) when his trailer started to go and it was almost like a huge gust of wind just threw him into a high speed wobble. He crashed hard on his right side. One of the folks following was an off duty paramedic. The police were almost literally on the scene as they were writing a ticket on the other side of the highway about a half mile down. Response time was very quick. By the time we arrived he was already on his way to the hospital. Bob was lucky in some ways....he was fully geared up...jacket helmet, chaps, steel toe boots....the gear saved his life the police said. We went to the hospital and he was in a great deal of pain, but managed to say that he hurt like hell. We went to GrandForks last night and stayed the night there and went to see him today. He looked better but is intubated due to the lungs, and in a semi- drug induced coma to help with pain and because he was becoming combative...he hated the tube. We left there around 4 ish and are now at Garys. His daughter is with him. She has all his personal belongings. We had cleaned out everything he had from his bike and loaded up our bikes to take for him. A prayer would be nice. He is a tough man and should be ok in the long run. The gang here was going to run to GrandForks but when we informed them he was in a coma they decided not to. We will update this thread Monday night when we get home. We are stopping to see him on our way back. He is covered with travel insurance thank goodness. Take care everyone and thanks for listening.

  15. If anyone is planning on attending the ride to St. Jude Childrens Hospital on Oct 18, let me know as I am trying to organize a group of riders from this area to ride to Memphis to meet up with others to make the donation for Squidley's "Getting Inked For St. Jude" Rmember this is in Honor of Mean Dog and benefits the kids at St. Jude Hospital. A group of us went last year and it was fantastic. This will be an early morning leave time or we might even leave sometime Friday afternoon, and spend the night in Memphis before going to St. Jude. Need some input so we can start making plans. This is the thread about the fundraiser ............ http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26475
  16. Janet got to come home yesterday, after 13 days in the Hospital, she was about to go nuts!! I have been trained to repack her dressing and we both have been trained to do her IV treatments every 8hrs.. Think she will heal alot faster being at home, but they are talking about 3 months. Wanted to thank all that sent best wishes and prayers, I printed them out for her while she was in the Hospital, and they really made her day!! Please keep the prayers coming, as this will be a long road.. Thanks again every one!! What a great Family we have here!! God bless!! Kreg & Janet
  17. Janet has been in the Hospital sense last Monday, they finally did surgery on her Friday, they cut a 3in long x 1/2 wide gash across her knee, cut out the bad tissue and stuffed it full of foam, ( Wound Vac ) well yesterday, she finds out she is alergic to the foam and the tape that they use, so all of that had to come out. now they are using 4x4 gauze soaked in saleen and then a dry compost on the top, this has to be changed every day, the wound needs to heal from the inside out, so it will be open for awhile, and I get to learne how to change all of that out. She will probably be in the hospital all this next week to make sure that it does not get infected again. I know she is ready to come home. Please keep her in your prayers!! Thanks , Kreg
  18. Gary just got a call from the dealer. They just got done tearing down our Venture and there is over $5,000 damage from when we hit the deer! :scared:And here I thought we would just needed a new tire, front fender and headlight bracket! $500.00 deductible (Which is a lot cheaper than hospital bills). Man, am I glad we had full coverage on that thing. It will be interesting to see what the insuance company says.
  19. Kurt827 has had a very bad run of luck. After laying down his bike down earlier this year, he has been very sick recently. We just got word that Kurt has been in the hospital for about a month. He had the flu. Then was still complaining. Put him in the hospital find his galbladder needed to be removed. Then still problems and more testing showed problem with his pancreas problems. He has been a very sick man. I managed to get him on the phone today. He is home as of yesterday and hopefully on the mend. He is weak being down so long. Thought everyone would be interested in his wellbeing. If anyone is interested in sending get well card, let me know and can get you address.
  20. well i come to you with a very heavy heart this morning. Last night at around 6:00pm i was traveling west bound on hwy 11 towards Delavan Wi. As i rounded a blind corner at approximatly 50 mph not 50 ft. in front of me there was a disabled vehicle with many spectators in the middle of the road. No time to react and ice covered road shoulders, about the only thing i could do was try to execute a controled slide to not hit anyone or anything. As i hit the hard cold ground it seems only to apparent that this is not going to end well. As i slide across the pavement for what seems like an eternity my only thoughts are of my poor beloved first gen that i had spent every spare moment perfecting. The bike and i finally come to a stop and now everyones focus turns to me, worried only about my bike i tell everyone i am ok. As i go to pick up the bike i realize maybe i am not doing so well as my shoulder lets out a loud pop, still not willing to let the bike lay in it's current state i ask for help getting it on the stand. By now the pain is really starting to set in, i call a friend who brought a flat bed for the bike. for me it was a nice ambulance ride to Mercy hospital. I got out of the hospital this morning around 6:00. As you can see by my writing this my thoughts are still of my bike. Oh ya by the way i have a broken collar bone and a dis-located hip, amazing what addrenaline will do for ya. As far as the bike goes upon meager inspection, the right side fairing is gone, windshield, rivco air horns, lower fairing, mirror,cb,,class, brake lever, trunk lid only, right saddle bag complete, i'm sure there will be more. I will get my son to get some pics up for you asap. The worse part about this is it is so hard to get good quality parts for these bikes now, i will heal but my bike? Also it was running great finally and was so beautiful. Thanks for listening. kurt827.
  21. This is for a friend and coworker of mine. I know what a great caring group you are so I am asking if you could please help participate in this. There is no limit to the number of paper airplanes you can send. Perhaps you can get your schools, workplaces, churches, civic organizations etc to participate. Please read this following note, and I thank you for helping! BTW Shawn (the father) rides as well, a vintage Virago I believe... My son Hunter has been diagnosed with a rare form of non hotchkins lymphoma called Burkitts cancer. It only affects about 300 children a year. Usually between the ages of 2 and 11 and its usually boys but can effect girls also. Burkitts is one of the fastest growing tumors that we know of. He went into the hospital on a friday and the tumor was about the size of a tennis ball. By monday it was a little bigger than a cantalope. He was started on cemo and it shut down his kidneys and then his liver started failing. On Wednesday, He told me that he could not see very good and then he quit breathing. He had tubes placed down his throat, nose, arms, and toes. He has swelling of the brain due to high blood pressure. Hunter went into the hospital weighing 40 pounds and now weighs about 70 because of fluid build up. He is now stable and is in the intesive care unit at Buffalo Childrens Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Hunter is only five years old. I would just like everyone to know, that Hunter has been set up with the guiness book of world records to try to recieve the most paper airplanes. Please forward this on to everyone that you know . All you have to do is make a paper airplane and write the state or the country you are from on the wing of your plane and send it to.. Hunter Winship (The Airplane Cancer Goal) 11227 North Hill Road Freedom, NY 14065 United States of America
  22. Just a quick note to let everyone know that I finally got released from the hospital today. I still have to go for therapy but at least I get to sleep at home every night now. 24. My brother is bedridden with M.S. Yesterday I came home late to find a phone message to call him. I found out that some lowlife POS broke into my brother's home while my brother's wife and daughter were out, ransacked the house looking for cash and valuables to fence and was not satisfied with that.....he attacked my brother stabbing him in the legs numerous times and even tried to slit his throat while wrestling him from his bed. Luckily the knife that stupid brought with him wasn't sharp, so my brother's wounds weren't too serious and he was treated and released from the hospital. What kind of world is this? Needless to say, I would like to find this guy myself and save the local PD the touble of an investigation and trial. Anyway, sorry to unload my problems.....just had to get it out.
  25. For anyone who may be interested, Next Sunday November 4 is the CHOP toy run. It is one of the greatest events of the year. For the last few years, it has drawn in excess of 100,000 bikes and provides enough toys to supply the hospital and local childrens charities for the entire year. The meet point is on Columbus Blvd by Penn's Landing right off RT 95. the gathering starts at about 9:00 am and the parade kicks off at 12:00 noon and proceeds through the city with all roads being blocked off for the event and ends at the hospital where you drop off your toy and are greeted by hundreds of smiling children who don't often have much to cheer them up. Come one come all, then go home and give your kids a big hug and be glad you have your problems and not theirs. I hope you'll excuse me now as I get off my soap box, but this event is very close to my heart as I have first hand experience with the care provided at this facility to some of the sickest children in the world.
