1. So I got my scare of the year in today. Scared the dang * bajeebers right out of me. Riding down the street in town, :7_6_3[1]:flow of traffic , 35ish mph. Listening to 70’s music and watching a young gal riding my @ss. Hit my brakes several times trying to get her to back off a little. I saw her swerve hard right to change lanes… what I didn’t notice was what she cut off to do it. There was a LARGE delivery truck in the other lane. One that had a very LARGE set of air horns on the roof, right over the drivers head. This put the air horns about a car length behind and 3 ½ feet over my right shoulder. He let go with a blast of air horns that had me jumping up, ducking for cover, looking “under” my shoulder and all around all at the same time ! I was trying to figure out what was going to kill me in milliseconds. Once I obtained my composure back, I continued to ride, with a pulse rate in the high 210’s and a blood pressure level too high to read. Several lights later the truck pulled up alongside me as we slowed for the light. The driver hanging half out of the window apologized profusely stating that she almost hit his front changing lanes and it was just his reaction to hit the horns… I could tell he felt bad. I’m guessing he had observed my reactions at the sound of his horn and also felt bad about the draining * bajeebers from the bottom of the foot pegs..…. * Definition of Bajeebers: Noun and action verb. Describes a level of fear that can cause massive unexpected, and uncontrollable loss of bowel functions, high pulse rate, fear of immediate death and rapid heart palpitations. Bajeebers can also be the end result of such fear often accumulating in underwear, pant legs and socks. Occasionally associated with fear level of 9.72 and higher on a scale of 1-10. Sometimes related to a rat’s @ss but not related to a round tuit
2. How does a member become a service vendor on this site? Experienced in lowering RSV's both front and back. Also, installing gauges, tachs, air horns and passing lights. Have forty plus years working and riding on various brand motorcycles. Rider First, Harley Owner Second.
3. The PO wired up air horns but they are wired to a different button on the handle bars that is not easily reached. Sort of defeats the purpose if I have to go hunting for the button every time. So, I want to use the original horn button. The compressor is mounted just under the passenger back rest, with the horns under the saddlebags. I have print outs and directions on wiring the relay into the horn switch. My questions are..... The instructions say "20 amp fused from batt to post 87". Is this an extra inline fuse direct to batt post or do I just come off the fuse block using that fuse? Can I hook into the pink and brown wires right down beside the OEM horn and run the 2 wires to the back or does it have to be hooked in up near the button for any reason? Can I remove both OEM horns or is there any reason I would have to leave leave one on. If I decide to add a steibel horn as well, (which I am thinking of doing) do I need to run a 2nd relay or can I just tap into the same circuit as the existing air horns. When I add running lights, do I use the same fuse as in question #1 , run another inline fuse or what?
4. Pulling the tank tomorrow to replace the air filter and possibly attach new horns. I've chucked the plastic clamshells they came in but they are I believe Wolo Blasters(?) Hi and Lo note. I don't like the area the old one came from. To "hey notice the blk plastic chunk" for me. While I've got the tank off I'm going to check out behind the plastic cover. Can anyone give me a heads up what is under there and if there would be space for two of these horns? I'm thinking of hitting Radio Shack and getting some black metal outdoor speaker mesh and cutting rectangular holes so I can aim them outward. One on each side. Something along the lines of this....(I will accept compliments on my ninja MS Paint skills, but don't feel like you HAVE to. )
5. This coming week, we are going to be having some very nice riding weather over most of the country. These are the days so many of us have waited on for so long. The down side is I will be surprised if we do not have a rider death or injury before the week is over in this area. It seems to happen every year. First of all, we are going to be out on the roads with people in cages that have not been around motorcycles in awhile. Many won't see us because they will not be expecting us. We will be invisible to many and we need to expect it. In daylight, I run my headlight on highbeam all the time. I see bikes with their headlight on lowbeam during daylight and the light would just as well be off. But remember, at night, a highbeam can be your enemy if you are blinding oncoming drivers. Many of the back roads around here still have fine gravel on them that was put down due to ice. General road conditions still need to be watched. There will be a lot of riders out there that will be on a "new to them" bike and sometimes it is hard not to see what it will do. Get used to your bike before you start pushing the limits. Hopefully, if you had not already done so, one of your winter projects was to put some loud horns on your bike. I have absolutely no doubt that if I had not put air horns on my bike years ago, I probably would not be sitting here typing this. Put them on and do not hesitate in using them if you suspect someone is invading your space. Being lucky is great, but being diligent may be what saves you. RandyA

horns

Bring up another old topic: horns I am looking at the RIVCO air horns from Buckeye. They apparently install on the swing arm of the 2nd generation RSV. Mine is a 2001 RSV. Have any of you had any experience with these horns ie ease of install, life span, mainteance etc.? Thanks all Jinx
7. Before I go and replace my horns, what should i look for to make sure, its not a lose wire or fuse? Locations?
8. I'm hooking up 2 acessories and would like to know what gage wire and fuse to use on each? Hooking up a set of 55 watt Plattieum Burners driving lights. Hooking up 4 of these horns STEBEL MAGNUM DUAL TONE MOTORCYCLE HORNS MHS-22 CHROME Also
9. After a couple of close calls recently, I decided to get a better horn. Bopped over to Harbor Freight and snagged a Wolo "Bad Boy" (Strebel clone). I've got the electrical part down (played with Trons in the Navy...), but I'm not sure about the mounting. I'm pretty sure I can pull off one of the stock horns and mount the Bad Boy in its place, but I'm concerned about heat from the engine, so I'm considering mounting the horn inside the fairing. Thoughts? Thanks, and Y'All ride safe...
10. This one surprised me a bit. The Hella disk type horns were actually louder than the Stebel Magnums. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-horns/horn-comparison-part-2/
11. I installed 2 sets of Stebel ELectric horns. I used the exiting 2 sets of wires, Left wires for the front set and right for the rear set. Each set has its own relay. The horns have been working for several months. This last weekend during an hour ride it seems that the horns were not as loud. When I got home I press the horn button 4 times as I touched each of 4 the horns. The rear horns does not work. I took both of the rear horns off and wired them directly to the battery and they work. I put a new relay on and still does not work. I would like to start troubleshooting with the 4 wires at the relay, only I've forgotten what wire goes where. Could someone fill in the blanks for me 30 comes from where ____________ 85 comes from where ____________ 86 comes from where ____________ 87 comes from where ____________ Thank you. Brian
12. I just bought my 89 Venture Royale and when I press the Horn button I can hear the Relay clicking. I have looked all over the inside of the fairing and around the bike for the horn(s) and can not locate them? Not sure if they are missing or if I am not looking in the correct place. Can anyone tell me where they are located from the factory? I've looked at the wiring diagrams but still no luck. Don't like not having a horn............ Pictures would be awesome if available. THANKS!!
13. The boat I got last year has a set of air horns in it. I don't think I need them on the boat as much as on my '83 vr! I haven't dug into it yet so I don't even know what parts need to be moved...I assume there has to be some sort of compressor as well as the horns themselves. I've read about needing relays when adding just about any electrical stuff to our bikes. Is there a concern of how much power they draw? what relay do I need? (if any) Does the relay used depend on the draw? I assume it goes on the hot wire between the battery and load? I wouldn't think so, but just to be sure, should it be close to the battery or close to the load or does it matter? And lastly....what the heck does a relay DO anyway?
14. Has anyone tried out these horns? I have been looking at the Stebel Magnum and seen these. They look like they would have a better fit in the stock location. Sound level is advertised to be the same as the Magnums. I have read the posts about the Magnums sticking out farther but not being a problem, but I think these may work better. Any imput from others that have these particular horns (TM80) would be appreciated.
15. I amm getting ready to install two stebel magnum horns on my RSV.Do I need to disconnect the stock horns?By the way where is the second horn on an 07,I cannot find the second one. What gauge wiring do I use from the relay. What is the color of the wire on the stock that goes to the horn switch and do I tie to this wire?
16. Last year, I disconnected my OEM Horn and a friend installed a 2 Trumpet Air Horn. I thought when it was done by my friend, there were 2 OEM Electric Horns. One on the right side by Floor Board, and one in the left front cowling. I took off the Air Horn and replaced it with a louder 118 db electric horn from RIVCO. I found a connector that looked like a horn connector in the left cowling, but no bracket or OEM horn. So, on 2008 RSV, is there 1 or 2 OEM Horns?
17. I will try to add pics, if I can't get it done you should be able to see my installed horns in my gallery. You may want to take a look there anyway. AFI (Marinco) electric compact twin horns. A marine product, very resistant to adverse weather conditions. Maybe not quite as loud (109 dbA) as Stebel air, but IMO more reliable and from where I mounted 'em they are very effective in projecting the sound forward. I used 20 amp in-line fuse and 30 amp relay. I disconnected the factory horn hidden in the left lower cowling (it was barely audible from there anyway), and kept the stock factory horn on the right side near the exhaust. Results in three horns, two right out front, and MUCH better than stock. They are available from many vendors, here is one of the better ones. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Marinco-Mini-Twin-Electric-Horn/dp/B000NI39SY]Amazon.com: Marinco Mini Twin Electric Horn: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Bh8H8FymL.@@AMEPARAM@@41Bh8H8FymL[/ame] Well, I gotta work on learnin' how to upload pics from my files to here. Sorry. I'll try to post 'em later if I get smart enuff.
18. Two years ago I put a set of stebal air horns on. I just got it back from the shop to replace the shock and the horn on the right I did not like the way they had it mounted, they had to remove it to get to the shock. So I was going to move it to where I wanted it and the bolt holding the horn came loose. So I had to unplug the wires to remount it and one of the wires drooped on the exhaust pipe and sparked and now neither air horn works. I replaced the relay nothing, the stock front horn works but not the rear horn. I did run separate fuses for each air horn, both look good. what do I need to check to get them to work? Have the horns attached to passenger floorboards. tew47
19. I am contemplating changing to different electrical horns and relocating them. In preparation I am checking the wiring for polarity, on/off with the ignition, etc. I am accessing the right side horn. You know, the one that they have aimed right at the exhaust! I expected to find the pink wire hot with the key on, but I find both the pink and brown wires to be hot when the key is on. I have looked at the wiring diagram, guess I just do not understand how the horn button makes these OEM horns work. I expected to be able to ground the after-market horns and connect a lead to the other connector that would become hot when the horn button was activated. OR I would hook up a lead that was hot when the key is on and the other connector would go to the horn button and be grounded when the button is activated. With both leads testing hot with the key on I am lost. I know one or more of you wizards can explain this to me and point me in the right direction. For clarification, I want to install a pair of compact boat horns out front (106 db each). I know most of you prefer the air horn, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for any help I can get. Mel
20. JUST WANTED TO GIVE A BIG THANKS TO THIS SITE AND ALL THE GREAT GUYS ON HERE!! 21. So I replaced the dual horns(don't know if they're stock) with a hi and lo fiamm. I turn the key and the and the horns start blaring. I check the wires with a meter. One is hot all the time regardless of wether I hit the button. The other has nothing. When I take a reading between the two it read 3.4-4volts and then 12 when I hit the button. What's the deal? The horns are loud as hell. Totally confused. Thanks in advance!
22. Well I wired everything up and gave it the smoke test......and I didn't realize there were two stock horns! Do I need to disconnect the other front horn also? cause, the stebel sounds very weak! not loud at all............any idea's?..... clawed needs help........
23. I have a 2000 RSV. It has been in the same spot all summer as I can not ride this year. I start it from time to time just to hit the air horns and hear the bike run. Now when I try to start it all I get is a tapping sound. The lights do not to dim and I am using a new bat. Everything works but the starter. I have no idea what to do. HELP When I remove the left cover all I see is box with fuses in it,the carbheat sensor, and a couple wries that I have my air horns and the original horns tied to.
24. I have 3, count them, three sets of passenger grab rails for a MK1 up for "Grabs" if anyone needs them. These are all virtually rust free and in very good shape. Also, I have a pair of stock horns available as well. There's a lot of 1st gen parts I will be getting rid of in the coming months...
25. The horns on our bike are pathetic. I've put off replacing them, but the other day I really wanted to give someone a blast, so now is the time to replace the OEM horns. I've done a seach and read several good threads about how to wire Stebel air and electromagnetic horns. I'd like to go electro because I think they may be easier to install than the nautilus. Please tell me if I'm wrong on that. I'm seriously considering putting these on our 84 VR: http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-magnum-motorcycle-horns-dual-tone-chrome-p-280.html http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/Tony1M/chromehorns.jpg Any first gen folks have these on their bike? If so, what do you think of them? Will they fit on the same brackets where the OEM horns are? (That is, can you just remove the OEM horns and install the new ones on the very same OEM brackets?) If you have these on your bike, please post some photos of your installation. Thanks for any information. Tony
