1. If anyone is interested the current Price of 16ooo mi service as of 4/15/10 is $585.00 and we didnt have to touch anythink other than change all fluids air filters and put afew poundes of air in the rear tire. Oh and they didnt charge for washing it.
2. Thinking bout buying K&N filters for my 08 RSV and wondering if anyone could tell me if they really raise the HP or make it feel like its breathing better? I put one on a V-8 Dodge Dakota and could not tell any difference. Also, where would be a good place to buy them? Thought I would tap the vast knowledge pool that we have here for answers. Thanks, Glenn
3. I was just doing some surfing as came across this. Does anyone here have an opinion about these filters?? I didn't see one listed for our bikes, but they said in the article that they build custom to fit. Just wondering has anyone tried one of these on anything of their own. http://www.digitalprovisions.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=FARKLEMASTER&Category_Code=SCOTTS
4. So is it worth going to the K&N Filters on my 03 RSV? Pro's & Con's if any!
5. I just purchased a new 08 TD, I live just west of Phoenix. Are there any guys in the Phoenix area (or even Tucson) who do their own maintenance? I would not mind hosting some type of tech day at my house. Changing plugs, oil, filters is not an issue. Removing tires, tuning and snycing carbs etc. are items I would prefer to have help with. Thanks, George
6. Are K&N filters really worth the $100 cost? Do you gain any performance or gas mileage?. I know they are lifetime filters. I haven't priced the stock ones yet. I am running a Dyna 3000 ingnition module and Kromeworks Mufflers. My (2006) bike really runs good with this setup. I have almost 12,000 miles on it.
7. I can buy from someone 2 sets of K&N Air filters for my Venture, but the person accepts only checks or Money order..And with my Luck.. I will be out of the money..... Is there someone from this board, who lives close to Grass Valley, CA and can pick up the filters for me ? Thanks
8. I haven't changed my air filters. The dealer did it the last time so I looked around on the bike yesterday to see about removing them and didn't find an easy way to get them off. Do you have to remove the lower fairings in order to get the filters off? Thanks, Dennis
9. Ok whats up with all these 2nd gen. oil filter numbers? I picked up a couple oil filters at the dealer for my 2008 RSTD for stock, they gave me PN/ 5DM-13440-00. My orignal filter PN/ 5GH-13440-00 is almost twice as long. I did a search on oil filters and found a PN/ 3FV-13440-00:think: So I my question is will there be any oil flow/pressure problems?
10. First of all just a reminder that you might want to check your air filters for the new riding season. I myself seem to always over look them when changing out plugs or doing other maintenance to my bike. I am now wondering if this is part of a lower gas mileage I also noticed on inspection of these OEM filters that the top tap (spacer) was missing on my original filters. was that added later?... I also wonder if there is a better price for OEM filters at any other place? $29.04 for each filter. not sure if I want to bother with K&N yet.. Filters looked pretty good at 3,500 miles on them and now with 11,350 on it , this is what they looked like. Just thought I would share this... Jeff
11. I'm always looking for alternatives (for everything) as long as the item is as good or better than OEM, close to the same price or less and fits and works correctly... like my rear car tire. When I worked in Nissan parts I did some research and found the Nissan oil filters were a good replacement as far as fit, quality, bypass, etc. I used them on my Road Star and would have on the Venture if I was still there. I'm now at a Honda car dealer and I was going to use the Honda filter since it also fits but I found from researching it that they are made by Honeywell (FRAM) so I passed. (I will NOT use a Fram product) The Honda filters in the past (2-3 years ago) were made by Filtech and were tested as some of the best. We just got a stock order and Honda has gone back to Filtech filters. Just info if anyone is interested. Honda part# 15400-PLM-A01 (3 1/4" length) (15400-PLM-A02 is the Fram filters)
12. Here's a decent article on K&N Filters. I use them in my bike. Can't really say that I ever noticed any increase in power though. I would still buy them again though because it does save on replacement filter costs. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/k-n-air-filter/
13. as we first geners are limited in options for our filters. Is there an adaptor to use screww on filters. HOw much, who sell and pros and cons if this adapter exist. I'm haveing and impossible time finding the ch6002 filter in my area. No one is selling them here except for the stealors. Any help will be greatly appreciated. David
14. Had the first ride of the year yesterday with the new K&N air filters. Made a big difference in performance. Instant reaction from the motor as soon as you turn the throttle. Went for a ride around the block, turned out to be a 4 hour ride, 200 kms. later. The reaction from the bike was soooo sweet, I left quite a few HD's behind me. When I got home, my wife could not slap the smile off my face. Had no problems with the new high output stater as well. I think it will be a trouble free riding season. Will be picking up my new trailer May 1. It's going to be a nice week too.
15. Does anybody have a cross reference list for car oil filters. I have a 2007 Chevy Impala with 3.5 engine and was looking for a list of filters I could use. After searching for some time (spell that till frustrated) I gave up. Any help appreciated. Tired of going in circles Bubber
16. I have a 1999 rsv and I have all the numbers for different oil filters that were posted, but I was wondering if there are any numbers for the air filter. Thanks hairman
17. Just wanted to post this for feed back. I have been trying to think of ways to dress up the air intake/filter box area. Not looking for high performance just visiual appeal. My bike is an 08 RSV and I have added some RK mufflers. This is the only mechanical modification that has been done. I first started off by trying to find out how much CFM the stock filters drew so I would not be messing with fuel/air mixtures. Let me state I have no technical skills at all. Just about everyone that I've seen that has altered the air intake has had to adjust or re-jet and shim needle valves!?!? Seems the filters they used drew way to much air and exceeded the cfm required by the RSV. The only way I could come close was to call K & N and they gave me the info on CFM of the replacement filter for the RSV. Part #YA-1399 has 338 cfm. Then I looked at different types of "Pod, Pancake" type filters. Nobody making filter is willing or knows how much CFM there filters draw (except K&N). I wanted to keep the filter size small so that I would not exceed the 338. Thinking that K&N was a high flow filter, the stock must draw less. Also the stock air box has only a 1.5 inch hole drawing that air through. I was able to get info on several filter that looked good and had the low cfm draw. I decided on a small 4.5" round chrome pancake filter that is 1" thick. The filter is reusable/washable and oil charged. I fabricated small brackets to secure it solidly and also got some muffler pipe to form a connection between filter and intake hose. The filters draw 127 cfm each. I've had them on for a couple days now and have ran the bike on the highway and in town. Running through the rev limits and down shifting. There has been no hesitation of sputtering at all. Lots of get-up and go. Have only put about 20 miles on her so far. As for the filter being small my thinking was the stock flliter box is roughly 9.5L x 5W x 4.5D with a small 1.5 inch hole drawing air into a filter that is roughly 5.25L x 3.5X x 3.5D. The outside box makes the filter look bigger than it really is. If I need to go up in filter size or cfm K&N also has several round and oval styles with cfm draw of 172 to 269. Have included some pictures to show how it looks. Sure would like to here some of your thoughts (good/bad, postive/negative). Or if anyone would like more information just let me know. Thanks for reading, Dennis
18. Well, unless I am doing something terribly wrong in my calculations, I think I am getting about 8% better fuel economy since I installed my K and N air filters 3 weeks ago. Here is what I found happening. I run a garmin zumo 550, which has a fuel gauge, that strictly clocks mileage. You input how many KM per tank you get, and when you get to 30 miles (48 KM)left of that amount, it gives you a warning, and then shows you the closest 5 gas stations. Pretty neat eh? Anyways, I digress. Normally, I have the KM per tank set at 280. So normally, this is the order of events. Around 210 km, my fuel warning light on the BIKE blinks, and goes to fuel reserve count up, 20 km later, I have to switch to reserve, and just about that time, my zumo tells me that I am on reserve. But about 3 tanks ago, I noticed something strange, and thought it was just a fluke. The first indication I get about low fuel, came from my zumo, which is usually last. about 10 k later, my fuel light blinked on the bike. This has been the case for the last 3 tanks. From the numbers both on the GPS and the trip meters on the bike, I seem to be getting about 25 km more approx per tank, or per fill up. Now, there have been no major changes in driving, either style or substance. Have any others here found these kinds of gains? If so, I wish I had known, I would have changed my filters much earlier. No other mods have been done recently, except a chrome brake pedal, chrome oil reserve cover, and chrome billet oil cap. (Do you think chrome gives you better fuel mileage? Hmmmm....) Anyways, also for anyone thinking of changing to K & N filters, I highly reccommend it. I have had K&N in all my cars so far, and saves you tons of $$, mostly from the high cost of replacing paper filters, but now apparently from increased fuel mileage, and let's face it, with the price of gas now, every little bit helps. Oh, and for those who may have never changed their air filters before, let me give you a little bit of advice. Make sure if you are going to K&N that you read all of the instruction, IN THE K&N box. Or, you can do what I did, read below... 1) Remove the lower cowling 2) Unbolt the air boxes (both sides) 3) Disconnect the breather tube, and carb hose 4) Remove 5 screws holding both sides of the air box together (both sides) 5) Remove 2 screws from air filter 6) Remove air filter (both sides) 7) Replace air filter (both sides) 8) Replace 2 screws holding air filter to air box 9) Replace 5 screws holding air box together 10) Bolt Airboxes back on bike 11) Re-attach the air intake hose, and carb hose 12) Replace the lower cowling 13) Put relatively new air filters back in K&N box 14) Discover warning sheet stressing importance of installing the 2 rubber gaskets that came with the K&N filters to seal the filters to the air boxes. 15) Find gaskets still in K&N box start again at 1 So there ya go, sometimes reading all the instructions is the way to go!!
19. Somwhere in this site i found a topic on oil filters and a list of #s for the RSV i wanted the # for the walmart filter i have the # for the mobil 1 and the purilator i think the walmart super tech # is ST7371 but not sure HELP!
20. I tried finding this question through a search, but found nothing. What is the model number for the air filters for a RSTD? Fram or any other.... Honestly, can't get the K&N right now, so any other suggestions?
21. I did the air intake mod and installed K&N filters on my 07 RSV. How often do they need to be cleaned and re-oiled? I installed them at 1K and now have 11K on the bike. Cheers, Leonard
22. Hi, my friend with XVZ13 Venture has following problem: his motorcycle is lugging at acceleration from 2000 - 2500RPM to full throttle values from dynojet (gauged at 37.500 mil, now drived 38.000 mil): - 95 nm - 77 HP Others data: - compression: 13 - 14 atm - new carburettor membranes (main and acceleration) - new plugs - new filters (fuel, air) - underpressure OK - exhaust gas oxygen sensor 1,100 +- - CO2 1,2 Any ideas are welcome. Best regards, Jarda Horak
23. Hi guys. I'm new here and to the yamaha royal star. I have been riding Kawasakis and Harleys for the last 12 years and now am the proud owner of a 2007 RSTD. I have a problem with the bike that has just occured. I have had the bike since Dec. and have put 13,000 trouble free miles on it until now. I recently added K&N filters and on the initial ride i noticed that when cruising in the lower RPM's (lets say in 5th between 55-70mph) when I twist the throttle 100% the bike bogs down.If I roll out to about 3/4 throttle it picks back up. Once into the higher rpm's the bike doesn't bog down as bad but I can feel it is holding back. I changed out the spark plugs, went back to the stock filters and evem synched the carbs and have the same problem. I am hoping someone can give me some guidance as to what it could be. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but since this setup is new to me I'm scratching my head. Thanks for any help:confused24:
24. Hey ALL: I added the K&N filters with the Chrome Covers this past weekend....Just took them out of the plastic...attached the new gasket to the inside of the cover....installed the new Chrome covers and put back on the bike... First thing I noticed...It did not idle as smooth...and the "exhaust note" from the right side sounded like my old 68 Ford from way back with a big cam in it... Second when I drove it, occassonally when I let of throttle I get a mild "backfire"....If I really down shift and put pressure on the the system, I MIGHT get a LOUD BANG/POP...Took it to a service tech I know and he has thirty two years in the business....As soon as mentioned the problem in said.."To much oil in the filters...take them out and let them set a while.." He said he had noticed that other K&N Filters were coming in to him with more than normal oil in filter... ANY THOUGHTS? HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM....ANY INPUT WOULD BE WELCOMED... George In Virginia...
25. Quickly glancing through the owners manual, I see no reference to oil filter or fuel filter yamaha parts numbers. Does anyone know these? Perhaps there are aftermarket filters that would work..ie NAPA or such? Thanks for the help.
