  1. I love my 07 Venture but I hate the sound of the exhaust. Sounds like it's missing all the time. I'm thinking of drilling some holes in the rear of the exhaust. The local stealer mechanic says it shouldn't cause any carb problems of any kind. I'd appreciate any info you can give me. Eddie:bighug:
  2. I am looking for an Exhaust Chamber, or whatever its called, the box that the 4 pipes feed into, and two Muff's come out of for 1989 model, 1st Gen. Reasonable used condx, and I will open up, gut and take to a welder . If anybody has one for sale, let me know. n7uy@comcast.net direct. I am thinking about ordering one from the fellow that makes new ones, but will try this first , see if anybody has anything. P.S. As of Tomorrow morning, I am officially on " Medicare " Some pills are hard to swallow Thanks,
  3. I've noticed people using HD mufflers as an alternative muffler. Question: Any comments on Rineharts....good?....bad?..... Feed back please. I like the way they sound on the RK. Thanx, Jerry
  4. If you read the description, he mentions factory upgraded paint job, passing lamps, wrap around fender rail, custom exhaust, much more but the bike has none of those things....... hmmmmmmm http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-1999-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Star-Upgrades-20k-Mi-EC_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50045QQihZ020QQitemZ300190103313QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  5. is the exhaust collector box absolutely necessary, for a specific reason? can i run dual 2 into 1 exhausts, and still be safe , as far as back drafts, burnt valves, are concerned? i really want to do away with that blasted , rattling box! just jt
  6. Hey fellows, I am a first time poster with a problem. I have an 87 Venture that keeps fouling out the rear plugs. I beleive they are cylinders 1 & 3. I recently purchased this as a project and boy is it one. I need direction. I have checked the diaphragms and slides, no issues. I put new plugs in the rear and it ran like a scalded dog for about 20-30 miles but has slowly degraded back to a backfiring, two rear cylinders only, beast. When I first got the bike the two rear exhaust gaskets were worn completely out, pipes slid back and fourth inside the exhaust manifold. Any help would be appreciated and if this has been covered before I apologize. I have searched for old post's regarding this issue and could not find any. Thanks,
  7. newbie here and a newbie venture owner... don't even have it in the Garage yet but already getting ready to customize it and have an exhaust question- I really like the look of the 4 into 4 slash cut exhaust setups I've seen on some of the models. Can anyone point me to brands, models, and recommendations for pipes of these types? Are there any that are quieter than others? I'm not a fan LOUD and actually prefer quiet most of the time but like to hear some rumble on acceleration. I owned a v65magna for years and loved how smooth and quiet it was heading down the highway... not necessarily looking for that, but not anything too loud... Looking forward to picking everyone's minds as i begin to customize my new ride- J 07 Venture Galaxy Blue
  8. I've got an exhaust leak somewhere on my '84 Venture. I can hear it, but can't pin down where it is coming from. With winter upon us, I'm going to remove the system and take a look. My question is, what parts of the system have gaskets that will need to be replaced? Also, has anyone solved a nuissance leak like this on their Venture? Thanx, Skooter
  9. What can a guy expect to pay for a set of those Jardine exhaust pipes for a first gen? Who is selling them? I did a search and haven't found a dealer with them. I'll keep looking.
  10. ]Hey All, I am sure this has been hashed out plenty of times, and I promise I did a forum search prior to posting I have pulled the exhaust off of the "brown Bomber" (1985 VR) and I will have to create or purchase a new collector, but figured as long as I am at it, I might as well give it some new pipes to boot. Now I see a group of you have gone with the MAC's and some with the jardines, and Rusty even made his with "glasspacks", I was just wondering what H/D pipes (exhaust mufflers) will work slip-on to the 1 Gen. The reason I ask, is I have many misguided friends who prefer the old Orange and Black to the mertic side of the house and most of them have sheds full of various "tossed aside after upgrade parts" and just thought I would go searching if someone could guide me in the right direction. Thanks if Advance, and I have literly spent hours in reading the Tech info on this side. Keep up the good work all.
  11. I am about to install what I consider a unique exhaust collector on my 88. I is custom built by Mark's Pipes out in Hisperia, Ca (I think anyway). Has anyone known anyone to install this custom after market exhaust collector or perhaps done so themself. This ceramic coated collector elimates the box-type baffled collector and connects them to the exhaust with exhaust the same diameter as the exhaust headers. This collector allows each exhaust header to be directly connected to the exhaust. Should be a great improvement in the air flow. Does anyone have any information pertaining to this product and other modifications that had to be performed, i.e, jetting? Help.
  12. I know there are only a few aftermarket slip on mufflers out there for the 2nd Gen Ventures. I want something that is a little louder and am considering the Bub Slip ons, but I do not care for the exhaust tips. Does anyone have any photos of aftermarket exhaust that has the slant cut tips facing upward. Anotherwords, an exhaust tip that follows the same angle as the back end of the saddle bag. Like the ones on a Royal Star Tour Deluxe. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelimagelib/413/14/1/0/image.aspx
  13. I bought 6 weeks a go a 2003 Midnight Venture with 4000 miles. When I ride in the city, I noticed that it starts popping at regular interval through the exhaust system when I close the gas throttle…I know the original owner removed the exhaust baffles and the bike sounds great .. but I hate that regular popping through the exhaust system. Is there anything that I can do ?
  14. I have been watching one of the Mark's exhaust collectors for a few days and it was staying pretty low. I came back on a few minutes ago and it had jumped to $78 with less than five minutes to go. I decided to bid about $100 on it and went back to refresh with about a minute to go and it jumped to $128. In the last thirty seconds it jumped to $202.50. Randy A
  15. I have a couple items listed on ebay in case anyones interested...I sold my venture and bought an 07 Suzuki Vstrom 650.I'll have a valve shim removal tool for sale soon too. The listings are Item number: 180171468646 for the service manual and Item number: 180171477011 for the exhaust collector. My ebay ID is klr651. Thanks for looking! http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
  16. I read sometime back that someone here had used JB weld to correct an exhaust leak. I thought maybe it was Freebird or V7Goose, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know who used JB Weld and more important, did it actually work?
  17. I have a 1988 Venture Royale with MAC exhaust. Should the centre stand fold and lock in place properly with this exhaust? I notice the original factory exhaust is notched to allow for the stand to clear.....the MAC exhaust isn't. It appears my centre stand foot actuator bar/pedal has been reworked to allow clearance around the exhaust.....but it lacks proper spring tension and there is nothing to lock it tight. With poor spring tension it seems to bounce up and down easily. I have presently tie wrapped it to hold it secure. Please comment or give me direction on this. Thanks. rez
  18. This weekend I ran into my Blue Knights Chapter at a charity run, I haven't had a chance to ride with them much in the past few years. Boy was I surprised to see a bunch of Ventures in the crowd. One of the guys has a 2000 red RSV, and he has the Krome werks exhaust on it, boy did I fall in love when he started it up!! I dont think Im even gonna trry the HD exhaust that's waiting in my garage. Anyone know where I can get the best deal on them??
  19. Does anyone know what type of exhaust tempretures at the head the 1st Gens run or how much of of a differential between cylinders I should look for. I have one of those laser tempreture readers. My bike has an exhaust smell like possibly unburned fuel people have told me and sometimes I feel it might be running on 3 cylinders but seems to run pretty well.
  20. My wife has been complaining this trip about a strong exhaust odor. I'm not sure yet that I've found the problem but this morning V7Goose and I were looking my bike over and found the notorious pinhole exhaust leak at the "Y" where the front and rear header pipes come together. I am only mentioning this because this is the first that he or I have seen this problem on the earlier RSV. I know that many of the '05 and/or '06 models had this issue but not the '99 and other models. I ended up pulling the "Y" off the bike and repaired it with JB weld. Seems to have worked very well. Still not sure if it's the source of the exhaust that is bothering Eileen but we'll know after we've had time time ride a bit more.
  21. I just put a nice set of Samson Shogun turn out slip on mufflers on my bike and I need help getting the carbs adjusted. The dealer says they can't do it because it has after market exhaust on it and the new California EPA law does not allow them to adjust or re-jet my bike. Anyone have a Tech Session going on in Southern California near San Bernardino?
  22. Besides the modified Road King mufflers, what is a good slip on for the RSV. I think I have it narrowed down between Samson Slash cuts or Baron exhaust. One style of the Baron exhaust... looking at the back of the bike you would see two pipes under each saddle bag. As with anything they are a little pricey, especially when you add the exhaust tips. If anyone uses these or is familiar with them, let me know. Thanks
  23. Hi all, I FINALLY took the leap and decided to try to change the thermostat on my 84 xvz12 and had to remove the right hand exhaust . when I did that I discovered the reason for my loud exhaust, my collector box was screwed and there is no way to fix it , it is pretty much burnt up. the good news is that both mufflers and all 4 header pipes are in good condition. Does anyone know where I can get a good used collector box, or even if I can get a new one. HELP!!!!!!! my ride is parked till I get this fixed Thanks Gord
  24. Need a little help. Changed left rear exhaust donut, got it back together, checked plugs, all tan on porcelain. Has been sputtering at idle, pulled off the breather, upon rev up and back down, am getting a backfire (fuel, no fire) from the left rear cylinder. Doesn't do it constantly, only once per blip. Pulled plug wires one at a time, LR doesn't make much change, LF is definate miss, RF is questionable, same as rear. Doesn't seem to affect operation, pulls good with a good twist of the right wrist, even with rider on back. Doesn't seem like a clean burn out of the exhaust, either. It just feels like it is missing. Oh, also have gas on under side of breather box on left side, can't find source. Not dripping, just coated. 1 more thing, changed stator and regulator, is 14.6 at the battery too high? I have a couple spare regs to try. Help is appreciated. Will be back shortly, going back into garage to put plastic back on. Thanks in advance, Dan
  25. This is the first RSV I have owned. I have owned 7 bikes since 2000, guess I couldn't find one I liked. I had a voyager, gold wing, harley ,victory, valkyrie, and vulcan. I really like the RSV. A guy from another thread told me I would be sorry, I hope not. I added a set of Road House exhaust and rejetted the carbs. Will the bike run rich in the mountains. The valk I had did. Any advise you guys are willing to share would be appreciated. Thanks
