  1. Help, i am trying to identify a connector located on left lower fairing, small two wire white connector, red & black wires. I believe it should eithe be a reserve lighting device or smooth condensor, i do have the two relays & cruise control servo, but where does the mystry connector go, pleses help. Goin crazy,
  2. During the time my 02 Midnight was under warranty it would lose the cruise whenever I hit a hard bump. It would have to be turned off then back on and then be reset to speed. Now that it is out of warranty it hardly takes any bump at all without going out. I've looked through all 57 pages of post and did not see anyone mention this paticular problem with their cruise. Has it happened? What should I look ford? It is not a brake or clutch relay. If it was I could just reset the speed. It goes off and the dash lights begin blinking.
  3. :banana:I'm going to be a father-in-law! My oldest son, Matt, and his girlfriend Valerie got engaged last week. He popped the question last week while they were on a Caribbean cruise. I was surprised but not totally. No date set yet.
  4. Where the heck are the vacuum pump, actuator, and the solenoid valve for the cruise control located?? My cruise doesn't work, and I've got a whistle somewhere under the fairing! Aside from driving me crazy, I really would like the cruise to work!! I'm guessing the whistle is coming from one of the vacuum lines because my engine runs great, pulls hard, and doesn't miss or sputter. I'm getting 40mpg, and I ride kinda fast to and from work (70 - 80mph), 40 miles round trip everyday. The cruise has worked on and off since I bought the bike three years ago. One of the problems was a worn out clutch lever, then a bad switch on the clutch side. When I do the ops check that the service manual offers, everything checks out good. I just need to check the vacuum lines, but I have to find them first!!!
  5. Dropped my bike on the left side Monday night. Nothing serious, just one of those things. It has rained for the last couple of days, so today was my first chance to ride it. Cruise control isn't working now. Light comes on and goes right back off. Could that have anything to do with dropping it. My lunch break is over, so I can't respond till this evening, but I sure could use some help. Thanks,
  6. I had a full feature Cruise Control on a previous BMW touring bike. I have a Throttle Rocker and Vista Throttle lock on my 84 Venture now. Has anyone adapted a speed variable cruise control to their bike? If so, what kind?
  7. Hey all just got back from St Louis, rode venture out Tuesday for a SportsMedicine Conference and other than my CB antenna coming off when I went to cover it on Tuesday the Ride was great, love the cruise control and got 48 mpg on way out and 46 on way back, set cruise at 73mph and off i went. anyway excited to get there and back in one piece and all i can say to sum up the venture is WOW!! can't wait for next ride to florida in august Brian D.
  8. Just wondering where is all the wiring on the RSVTD that is in the upper fairing on the RSV? The radio/player is obvious - so the TD does not have intercom & cruise and what else? Anyone know?
  9. Hope someone can help me. I removed my radiator on my 89 venture royale to get to the starter. I cleaned up the starter's interior in regards to the forum for dragging starters. The starter and radiator work perfectly but now the cruise control doesn't work. Any ideas? the indicator light on the handel bars work and the set and resume lights come on and then go off as normal when I turn on the cruise but I can't set the cruise. I checked all the switches on the brakes and clutch. help! paru
  10. I recently purchased an 83 Venture, which has an after-market cruise control installed, and the only info I have about it is its name: Markland. I have tried to find any info I can about the company, but so far I haven't had any luck online. I was wondering if anyone has heard of Markland cruise control systems, or where I may locate a wiring diagram, or just a website/phone number. This system uses magnets attached to the rear brake rotor, with a sensor mounted on the rear caliper bracket. the control on the handlebars says MARKLAND across the top, and has 3 buttons, SET, RES, and ^OFF. I am really hoping it's just a loose wire, or a bad vacuum line, but before I start I wanted to get more familiar with how it is installed. Any help is really appreciated!
  11. My cruise went out, It is not the fuse I checked. Has anyone else had this trouble. I get no lights and it will not set. Thanks bikerjohn
  12. I noticed tonight that my cruise control will cancel if I put the foot brake pedal on. However, if I pull in the clutch or if I apply front brake the cruise will not release. I thought I would ask the knowledgeable group if anyone has experienced this or would have a pretty good idea where to start looking. Will get out the service manual tomorrow and have a look. Thanks.
  13. About a month ago I go out to get on the bike and my speedometer does not work. No gas gauge or anything. No problem, pull the fuse and tested it. No, the fuse is good, but just for the heck of it I replaced it anyway. Speedometer works! No problem. Noticed a week or so ago that the cruise control does not work. Not a real issue, because I rarely use it. When I leave the office this afternoon, my passing lamps don't work. So I pull the fuses from the fuse box and test all of them. They all test ok, but I replace them anyway and the passing lamps now work. I don't know if the cruise works yet, but I would bet that it does. Any Ideas? I use a multimeter to test and I know it works. On a related issue. The plastic screw that holds the bottom of the lower farings together seems to be striped or something. I could not get it loose. Any problems with drilling this thing out?
  14. I have a 2001 RSV, I cant get my cruise control to set it will come on when you turn it on but it will not set when i push the button. Has anyone know what maybe going on with the cruise control. Thanks.
  15. I got this email today and did Snope this myself and Snopes does concur. (I don't trust when an email says "Snopes says this is true.") Here is the link: Snopes I assume this would hold especailly true for the cruise control on our bikes! -----Original Mes------- You may have seen this before but a reminder never hurts! I wonder how many people know about this ~ A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore, Texas she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane, and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON. She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain. But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred. The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed - but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry. The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries. If you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn't know about this, then it was all worth it. You might have saved a life. NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.
  16. Its amazing how 30 degree weather feels great, been outside all weekend in the yard working on the shop, finishing the siding so I can get my inspection. The thought did cross mine mind about taking the bike for a little cruise.
  17. After reading the reponses I got, I tried out the cruise control again on a few good days we had this week. Symptoms include 1) When I hit the set button, the "set" light comes on. But when I let go of throttle, it drops 5 mph then pulls it back up to set speed. I tried hitting the accel button, but no help. I tried holding the throttle steady till the computer "took control". No help, even if I hold the throttle for a minute, when released speed will drop 5mph then pick back up. 2) CHECK THIS - after bike is properly cruising on its own I tap the accel button, bike SLOWS DOWN 5mph THEN ACCELS 6mph. 3) if I tap the "coast" button, the bike slows down 5mph, the accels 4mph. I talked to service manager of dealer where I bought the bike used. He said it sounded like a cable adjustment, and "adjustments" were not covered under warranty, only "parts failure". He did offer to call Yamaha on Monday though. We will see!! I would not think cruise controls adjustments a "typical maintenance adjustment" like tire pressure, oil level, brake pads, etc. Who has had this problem, how was it corrected, and was it warranty?
  18. First off, a BIG Thank You to bongobobny for the parts I needed!! Next - dumb question time. How do you get the switch out of the clutch lever mount??? Mine is broken off, with a piece still in the mount. I wondered why the cruise wasn't working! I must be having a Senior Moment Attack, I can't get the @$&^*# piece out!! What holds the switch in place??
  19. while I was lounging in the Caribbean on our cruise. I actually was going to post on here during the cruise but the ship only had a satellite connection and we were unable to upload so I'll post it now...just to prove I was there (think I'm gloating??) :cool10:
  20. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Yamaha STR-4YV27-17-03 handle bar clamp will work on a Venture if you have the risers installed? It looks to me like the clamp will not clear the inside of the fairing where the cruise control on/off switch is located. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/STR-4YV27-17-03.jpg
  21. I have a 2007 Venture and wants to install cruise peg mounts & pegs. Any suggestions on what type is best to use? I purchased floorboard mounts from kuryakyn, but they didn't fit because the engine guard was in the way. I would prefer a floorboard mount but if I have to put them on the engine guard, what type is best? Thanks, Chester
  22. All cruise controls should only be used on dry surfaces .
  23. http://www.corbin.com/yamaha/ylnrtrunk.shtml The NEW Venture maybe??? Found this out on Corbin's web site. Add a radio and cruise and I'd be trading!
  24. cruise control and i rode over to the beach yesterday , good test run on the bars [ great on the back and arms , 7th heaven ] saw a nice midnite with a suzy in the parking garage at the beach [ yes we can park in the parking garage here ] saw another 1 on madson , had 3 large flags in the back [ popped the new horns at him and got smacked by cruise control , she has never herd them while riding , she almost jumped off the back :rotfl:] anyway , anybody here know who belongs to those midnites ?
  25. i am looking at the schematic for the cruise control system and i see that the speed signal is picked up electrically off the back of the speedo cluster. without pulling my speedo off to check, does anyone know if this is a milliamp signal, or a 12 volt pulse that triggers the cruise control box. ( i have a friend with an 85 vmaxx and he has an 86 venture that he wants to pull the cruise off and put on the vmaxx.)
