  2. In just the last 24 hours in 3 separate and unrelated incidents there have been 3 motorcycle fatalities in the Milwaukee area. one was due to a cage turning in front of the bike and the bike losing control while trying to avoid the cage, he died of head injuries with his helmet strapped to the bike. one was do to extreme speed and lose of control. Driver died immediately with traumatic amputations and passenger is critical. Last was a case where a cage found the wrecked bike and decesed rider on the side of the road, with no obvious cause of the crash. It was later determined that it was a bike deer crash. Lets all be careful out there. That is way to many hitting way to close to home.
  3. I went down yesterday after going through a construction zone with a lot of crushed stone. I'm ok but my leathers got some road rash as well as 1 boot. I was on a secondary paved hi way that they were replacing alot of culverts. In the section where they removed the asphalt they filled it in and then put 10-12" of loose crushed stone. I went across one section doing maybe 50km's (30mph) and felt the rear of the bike go a bit so I slowed down for the next one....next thing I knew I was slidng across the ground and the bike was heading for a ditch. It stopped before going over the bank. It went down on the left side and then it flipped to the right. Not a whole lot of damage other than cosmetic from what I can tell so far. My right lower cowling is trashed and the crash bar it self is bent. I had a set of the crash bar supports on and kinda think that saved me from getting more damage (it did break but I think it can be rewelded if its not bent). My handle bar ends didn't touch the ground or the mirrors either. So I'm kinda thinking slowing down wasn't such a good idea? I do have a rub mark on my fairing.....has anyone have one sanded and painted before? My thoughts on the crash bar supports......I think they saved me from having alot more damage...and my V/R gremlin bell of course! I didn't realize I went down on my left side at all because I saw no damage but was puzzled why my left boot and chaps were scuffed. It was only on the way home when we stopped to check the tie down straps on the trailer that my friend noticed the left front bar was worn down a nice bit. It was then I was able to put it all together.....it happened so fast I wasn't really sure what had happened. So I went down on the left and it flipped over to the right all in about 30 ft. To add some humor to it I called my sweetie and said " I just went down on my bike" she replied " did you do much damage to the bike!"....I immediately asked..."what about me" She just assumed I dropped it! So now its panic time......was planning to go on a 10 day trip the end of this month.....I hope Yamaha has the parts. If anyone has triked and have some rear crash bars available I may be interested. Be careful out there!! Keith
  4. stopped to fill up and after that I had neither speedo nor odometer. No funky noises implying impending doom, it just quit. The connector on the wheel was not tight but that didn't help, and the cable housing is not falling down. Now I thought the odo was electronic, so what might have happened to crash both? Panel light are still working. If someone has a spare or a spare cable and is going to the Ga MD let me know. In case you didn't see it in my sign on, it's a '83 royale. Thanks.
  5. Due to several request to make crash bar braces I've built a limited number of them. Currently there's 6 of them listed in the classifieds but if there's enough demand I'll build more. I built these a bit different than the ones I did in a post 3 years ago. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6069&highlight=crash+supports Simplier and stronger. Here's a link to my ad -- http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2692 Please note that you'll also have to purchase a set of clamps for the crash bars. There are two types to choose from. These from are the best -- http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/18/scID/121/IMID/531 #1002 or from Dennis Kirk -- http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=494431&store=&catId=&productId=p494431&leafCatId=&mmyId or a 3piece type -- http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=406929&store=&catId=&productId=p406928&leafCatId=&mmyId= or http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=406933&store=&catId=&productId=p406932&leafCatId=&mmyId= I have found both types being sold at e-bay with decent prices in the past as well. Larry Note: The first two pics show the braces and clamps on my bike. The ones I have listed are a bit different at the clamp end but will still do the same job.
  6. I got me some wizzard lightes for the bike but they didnt come with any directions on the best places to put, were is everyone putting theres at? I also got some driving lights that mount on the crash bar but they were out of the mounts for the crash bar at the show and they told me they are 25 from the dealer does any one know what I need to get here?? 7. :95:Well it finally happened! I was waiting at a stop sign for oncoming traffic to come through so I could make a left turn and the bike hadn't completely warmed up, I guess, when I let out the clutch and "Big Gal" lurched forward and choked down. Next thing I know I'm laying on my back in the middle of the road and "Big Gal is resting on the crash bars. Not a whole lot of damage other than my pride, a small scuff on front and rear bars but alls well otherwise. So, that being said, where do I sent my money and how much???
  8. A few members were asking about crash bar bottle holders (like HD make) and CMike even contacted Troy (a member) about it, only to find he had to have surgery! I have emailed Prozak and he is fine now, after having his gall bladder removed. He would be happy to make these holders for VR members BUT he doesn't have crash bars on his bike!! If someone here could send him a rear crash bar so that he could get measurements that would be a great help. His email is: troy@scustomleather.com He made a special tank bra for me, and has done work for other members too..............CAN ANYONE HELP OUT????????
  9. One of the nations largest Harley Dealers died in a crash on his way to Sturgis. Here is the story. http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/Headlines/frtHEAD01073109.htm Bruce Rossmeyer owned 13 Harley Dealships and of course, the one in Daytona. Yama Mama
  10. Buyer beware. I think they are secretly trying to get rid of half the population. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8F0PFi24VI]YouTube - Smart Car Crash Test[/ame]
  11. Having totaled my 87 VR on 6-27-08 I am back in the saddle! Sent these pics to Earl (Skydoc_17) as I promised he would be the first to see what bike I ended up buying. Earl helped me go over my VR and record all the damage from the crash and shot some photos to go along with "our" damage report. I posted on the forum some of the events of the crash, insurance adjuster, etc. so here is the conclusion of the story.. It was not an easy picking another bike, and I looked at many new ,used, and manufactures. So here it is... http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/Davepa5/?action=view&current=harley101.jpg&evt=user_media_share Regards Dave PS...can I still come to the Skid In ??
  12. News reports indicate the motorcycle rider was looking at a previous crash and listening to an IPod. Still waiting for word as to his condition after this scary accident. http://www.kirotv.com/news/19621668/detail.html
  13. I use a locking wheel chock in my trailer and two tie downs to hold the back of the bike down and forward. My question is are the rear crash bars sufficiently secure to use them to connect to my D-Rings or is there a better place Thanks!
  14. Any one has any idea about how to get the right crash bars for my RS'97? I know that I get those on a Star parts on a two years old catalog, but it seems that nobody else is selling those parts any more. Also, I saw a Lindsay model that I don't like for this bike. I 'm looking for something more round style more than the emblem kind Lindsay has. THanks
  15. Grant just left riding his new scoot home. Please all wish him well and a safe ride to it's new home. Crash
  16. This was a friend and coworker of mine. Please remember the Bosley family in your prayers today: Man dies in motorcycle crash Daily Record/Sunday News Updated: 03/14/2009 09:28:39 AM EDT A Glen Rock man died Friday night following a motorcycle crash on Route 30 eastbound in Springettsbury Township, according to the York County Coroner's office. York County Deputy Coroner Onalee Gilbert said Walter Bosley, 54, died of blunt force trauma to his head. He was not wearing a helmet, Gilbert said. Springettsbury Township Police said Bosley was heading east on a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when it left the road and veered onto the grassy median. The motorcycle traveled about 500 feet on the median before it hit a hole, which caused it to cartwheel several times, police said. Bosley was thrown from the motorcycle, police said. There will no autopsy on Bosley's body, but a toxicology test has been ordered, Gilbert said. The crash occurred at 10:38 p.m. on Route 30 eastbound at the Mount Zion Road exit. Police and rescue personnel shut down Route 30 in both directions between the Mount Zion Road and Hallam exits following the crash, according to York County 911.
  17. Crash, if you love the shirt I think you are gonna love this. I received this from St. Jude a few days ago.........I was floored, I had never seen one of these before.........Charlene said to hold on to it cause when I have to send you off to your final resting place I want you to be wearing that tie...........Sounds sort of ominous doesnt it..........Gee, I wonder if she is making some plans I dont know about........... But I thought you would like to see this...........the picture doesnt really do it justice.......Its beautiful!!!!!!
  18. I have 2 questions. The first is about the rear side reflectors that mount on the crash bar. I have installed the saddle bag trim rails which are of a smaller diameter then the crash bar. I have seen that many of you have the reflectors installed on the saddlebag trim rails so what was used to make up the difference so the reflectors stay in place? Also I have gotten the LED conversion reflector replacements. has anyone wired these up to run as running lights and then blink when the turn signal is on? If so any help would be appriciated.
  19. Can one of you gurus here verify? I am almost certain the crash guards are the same on the tour deluxe as the venture. Can anyone verify that?
  20. Hi I just bought a 08 Venture!!! Have never road one so I don't know what to expect? I am moving up from a 1982 900 custom Honda. I just might enjoy my new ride. I am looking for some info on what kind of highway pegs work well? I don't know what size the crash bar is & if I need a offset to reach them. I only have a 30" inseam. I don't have the bike home yet so I can't tell. Thanks Reed.
  21. I laid the bike down in Aug. of last year and messed it up in the front pretty badly. Got that all fixed and thought all was good. Yesterday did some maint., oil change, rear end oil change, etc. Took the left saddle bag off to get to the rear end fill cap, all was good other than rusted bolts that broke off, or so I thought. Went to put saddle bag back on and nothing lines up. Got to looking and when I laid bike down the saddle bag crash bar was pushed back and in towards main frame. Any one have any ideas on how to straighten saddle bag crash bar so I can get bag back on. I have thought about getting a couple of chains and putting a chain from the mounted hitch to my pick up and hooking up the other chain to the crash bar and my wife's mini van then using a ratchet chain binder to tighten the chain and hopefully pull the crash bar back into position. Sound doable, or completely out to lunch?? Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated. Don H.
  22. while in a semi dream state, this afternoon, i had a great idea. i;m gonna try to take my passenger floorboards, and re-manufacture parts of them to make "hi-way floor-pegs". i have seen "markland" boards, mounted on the crash bars, and i THINK, i can make passenger boards work the same way. it ain't like i'm EVER going to have a passenger, on purpose! lol has ANYONE ever done this, or seen it done? just jt
  23. Does anyone have the Kurakyn Part Number for these "P" clamps which will fit on the front crash bars of a 06 Venture? Thanks in advance for the info! Regards.........Boomer
  24. Anyone know of some good clamp on footpegs that will fit crash bars that are less than 1"? The crash bars on my bike are 7/8", or around there, and I just have this feeling that 1" clamps will need some... umm... help in staying where I want them. The only ones I've been able to find are from MC Enterprises, called Holey Pegs, that are made for 7/8", but when I checked today, JC Whitney no longer carries them. That's what I get for waiting so long. And I know I could make some of the larger clamps work, I'm just being picky here. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on places to look for non-standard sized pegs, let me know!
  25. On my RSV I have the Air Vents that attach to the crash bars. They are tinted plastic mounted to the crash bars. One of mine is cracking and I dont think I can buy the plastic portion. Maybe I can but I cant find it. I am looking for the plastic on the Left side. I dont want buy a whole new set at 200 bucks. I will make a new piece if I can but really would rather just buy one. Scotty
