  1. The two light bulbs under the corner of the bags on a 86. 1156 bulbs that clip in to outside corner of bags. Didn't know they were there. Are they brake lights or running lights?? I'll find out tomorrow. Just wondering. Looks like they haven't worked in forever. Just getting to know "Brown Sugar" Missing a week of good riding weather for it. I think I remember where all those pieces go back. Leslie wouldn't want to see her now.
  2. I am trying to remove the saddle bags on this 1st Generation. Do I use the ignition key for the locks to remove it? They work to open the bigs but don't seem to work to get the bags off the bike? Any suggestions. I'm sure asking a lot of questions on this bike!
  3. OK folks....this is just to find out if there is any interest at all. If not, then no big deal. I have worked out a deal where we can get these bags with the VentureRider logo on the back and a 10% discount IF I can buy them in a lot of 50 units. I already have a bag and don't really need one but would buy one with the VentureRider logo if there is enough interest to get the group purchase. So...any interest at all or should I just forget about it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Trunk-Rack-Bag-by-Bestem_W0QQitemZ400104858013QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5d281ba19d
  4. Added a few lights, so thought I would show her off.Led strips under tank, trunk and saddle bags. Driving lights mounted on brake calipers. Tear drop leds on rear bags turn/tail,rear brake light, andbrake light bar on back of trunk.Just can't leave nothing alone.
  5. I just got my V Star back from servicing at the stealer, didnt make out too bad, but thats not what this post is about, I took the bags off of the V Star when I took it in, so I figured I would check with Rick Butler about his saddle bag screws for the RSV. He said they would fit and its was a wise investment, it was a snap putting the bags back on without any tools, they come from the factory with allen screws and its a pain to take them off and reinstall them, not now. I recommend anyone who owns a V Star 1300 Tour get these, you wont regret it. Thanks again to Rick Butler for another fine product by one of our talented members..............
  6. I'd like to know exactly where the centre of gravity is on the 86-93 Venture Royale. Obviously it's slightly forward of the centre stand but I'd like to know exactly. I can do the calculation if someone can just give me the weight on each wheel...no rider, nothing in the bags, full tank of gas. Does anyone have the numbers? (no smart comments, just the numbers, please)
  7. One of the leather straps on the bags of my 97 RS is short! It's apparently not been taken care of before I bought it. The strap looks like it suffered some pretty serious shrinkage, and I am looking for some good tips to stretch it back out. I've got plenty of leather treatments, but they're for cleaning & protecting... My father in law told me to soak the strap in water, then stretch it out by hand, little by little. Soak-Stretch-Dry-Treat. He said do this a couple times and I should be able to get it where I need it to be. The bags are the hard-leather bags (ABS covered with leather) if that helps. I'll try to post pictures if I remember when I get home tonight. **On a side note, I'm not so concerned with the aesthetics of the leather after stretching, it's the structural integrity of the 'belt' I'm worried about.
  8. as many members here have done, i purchased the bolt kits for my saddlebags that make it easier and quicker to remove the bags from my venture without tools. however, after chasing the bolts and the washers and the rubbers and the spacers all over the garage floor as you move the bags from the bike to the bench for cleaning or whatever?? i came up with a simple sullution to keep the junk together! these are common to the automobile and bodyshops and called retainer clips that held the emblems on the fenders of cars, before they started gluing everything on. also called star washers, and can be purchased at most hardware stores. put all your spacers washers rubbers and stuff into place on the bags and then stick this retainer over the end of the bolts to keep everything together. works, and it's cheap!
  9. A very good friend asked me to ride his brand new Vintage Chief from the dealer to his house. He is recuperating from a leg ingury. He already has three bikes (2005 Triumph Bonneville, 2009 Harley Ultra and a 2006 Venture. This was a treat for me, and the bike is awesome. The color light green and cream with distressed leather seat and saddle bags looked great. The twenty mile trip in the cold could have been better, but I survived and it is a great machine.
  10. Just posted an ad in the classified for the original equipment leather saddlebags off my RSTC. Added Venture bags to the bike so don't need the leather ones any more. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2546
  11. I posted this on the Watering Hole, but it got lost so quickly I thought it might be more appropriate here. One of my winter projects is to add additional lighting to the back of my new-to-me 97 RSTD. I've read the many threads here on that subject, but was thinking the best method is to spread them out for maximum impact. There are many threads here on how people have added additional running/brake lights to their hard bags, but I was curios if anyone has added additional running/brake lights to the back of their leather bags? I'd be interested in what you used, and of course, pics! Thanks!

  13. I've got this set of lightbars that came with my '83 that I'll never have any inclination to use. Most of the lights work, but I think with alittle wiring work, that they'd all work....(I think) There are 3 rails in all, (2 for lower bags, and 1 for top box)...and the chrome is in very good condition. I'd like $150.00 ....that sound fair??? http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2764/p1000222q.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2382/p1000223.jpg
  14. I found this on patent storm maybe future Venture? W/O bags etc Patent issued 10/27/09 http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/pdfs/patent_id/7607504.html
  15. Hi there I'm new to all of this but, does any one know if road star hard bags will bolt on 1999 royal star venture brackets? thanks G.
  16. Are you using windshield bags on your second gen? If so what are your thoughts, how was the installation, and where did you get them? I would like to have black leather studded bags that seal pretty well if I add them, and do not want to mess up the windshield mounting area...
  17. :confused24: 1. Should I paint the bags to match the bike? 2. Should I paint the Ivory on the bike to match the Black Cherry? 3. Do neither and name my bike "The Coat of Many Colors"? 4. Anyone interested in the leather bags I took off?
  18. For those that use saddle bags, do you like them or do they take up too much valuable space inside the box? I know the convinence if just grab-and-go is nice, but what about the down-side of using them. (if there are any) If you like them, which ones do you recommend I get and where can I get them?
  19. Walmart has offered (recyclable) blue bags for groceries and other items bought (50 cents). That way you can save the world not using plastic. They are kinda a nice heavy paper product. I put our traveling clothes in the bags and drop them right in the saddle bags of the venture. Two bags fit perfectly into each side. When you get to the hotel, just grab the bags and go into the room. works for me.
  20. Saw an HD with one of these bags on his luggage rack. I liked it. It's waterproof and less expensive than a lot of bags we've looked at: http://www.roadreadybags.com/products/touringrackbags.html
  21. Im curious in what you have in your tank bags??
  22. I guy about 2 miles from my house has a 1976 GL1000 Goldwing he will sell for $150.00. I looked at the bike and it has Vetter faring and hard bags. Faring and bags are white and rest of bike red. Has the chrome guard rails around the hard bags. Like a lot of people up here he lost his job and moved to a house with no garage. He has a 71 Harley and a 79 CX500 and no money or room to do anything with the wing. Bike has been setting outside under a plastic tarp. Engine is free (not frozen up) I has no idea that 76 also had a kick start on them. Lots of surface rust on chrome and winshied broken. Left front fork tube would need to be replaced. Would also make a great parts bike. If I had a garage I would buy it. But all he wants is $150.00 and someone to come and get it. If interested PM me and I will give you my phone number and answer your questions.
  23. drivers bags for a 1st Edition. You know, the leather pouches that attach just in front of the driver's knees. I had them off while performing some mods and my daughters new Golden Retriever puppy got to them. Now the bags are scattered out in various locations throughout the property. Darn. I will pay dearly.
  24. I recently bought a set of used Yamaha leather slant bags, complete with mounting hardware. They were installed on a Road Star. I think the mounting hardward is different for a 1996 Royal Star but I can't find pictures to confirm. The Yamaha website just shows the bags and not the mounting brackets. Can someone show my pics of the brackets for a 1996 Royal Star?
  25. ...when your wife is riding with you. After an awesome day of riding yesterday, we stopped at the supermarket to pick up a "few things" for dinner. Not really realizing the implications of my words "get whatever we need honey", I waited at the scoot while Nina went to get "what we needed" for dinner...or so I thought. After what seemed like an hour (well, maybe it was 1/2 hour) I hear "Rick! ... come help me!" .... OH NO I think... sure enuf, she's got a buggy full of bags... 8 bags of groceries ... $90 dollars worth! HOW AM I GONNA FIT ALL THIS INTO THE SCOOT??? Well, after some juggling and re-juggling of things that are already in the saddle bags and trunk and trying this and trying that... I couldn't believe it... I got it all in! At first I was a bit annoyed but after realizing the humour in it, neither of us could stop laffing!
