  1. But yesterday after leaving the hospital and arriving at work I was confronted with some very bad news. A young truck mechanic I worked with went home early wed. Because he was feeling very ill. Thursday morning his young wife called in and informed our employer that doctors had to remove Nathan's left leg above the knee. The right arm and right leg were also effected, and a lot of tissue was removed, do to flesh eating disease. On top of that he almost died on the operating table. Nathan is one of those rare people who is always helpful and never has a bad thing to say about anyone. He has two very young preschool children and a wonderful wife. I truly would love to see the same shared prayers sent for this young man as was shown for my father and others in need of them.
  2. May need to replace my muffler cans for my 1987 Venture. The previous owner knocked out the baffles. A little louder than normal but not too bad, however, will this affect the engine performance??
  3. Monty

    Taurus

I just bought my first Taurus. It's a PT 709 slim, that I intend to carry with a CCW permit. I've never owned a Taurus before, but have heard good things about them. I liked the slim fit, and the weight for carrying. Anyone have any good or bad stories about Taurus?
  4. I don't usually get on a public rant about things, but I am now, I'll try to keep it short. About 6 weeks ago I had work done to my car, installed a new fuel pump and sending unit. Got the car back and it was running great, went to fill it up as it was empty. Stopped at a VALERO station in Tomball Texas on 249 just north of FM 2920. I ended up getting a tankful of bad gas from that station. $400 bill later from the garage the car was running again. I submitted a form to get them to pay for the repair as it was nothing I did to cause it. Well they decided to not pay the repair, so now I am starting phase 2 of my campaign against them, and give as much bad publicity as I can. I have nothing to gain by trying to scam them, I paid out the money so it's money lost for me right now. I try very hard to play by the rules and become extremely irritated when others dont play by the same rules. There are quite a few folks that know me here and my character, I can let a lot of things slid, but this time, I am going to be the biggest PITA to VALERO until they make this right. Think twice before you use VALERO, needless to say I wont be supporting VALERO and will give as much negative talk about them as I can until they step up and do the right thing.
  5. I am looking at an 07 Venture with about 9K on it. They tell me this bike has a factory warrenty until next year I think. ANyways I was lloking thru the fourms here trying to see what kind of things that might need attenetion I have to look forward to. I read something about the clutch whining (should be a warrenty item). What are some of the other common item that just seem to go bad? Not that something with 9K on it should be bad. Heck its only like on its second oil change right?
  6. Has anyone ever experienced a faulty key ignition causing "no spark" to one of the cylinders?? I thought I had a bad TCI but I tried another and I had the same problem. I fiddled with the key (sprayed a little WD-40 in the key slot) - worked it back and forth a couple of dozen times and suddenly got spark! The bike has kind of been driving me crazy with the lack of spark to that cylinder - then - suddenly spark again... Just wondering if the bad key ignition could cause that symptom or not - best to ask the Venture specialists here on the board. Thanks in advance
  7. Go to Youtube - type in 1986 venture carbs. It's the video by jamkitful 1986 VR carburation problem REDUX Ok. Here's a link to the video of the problem with my bike... Dont know if anyone can glean anything from it but ??? I did all the previous tasks that everyone mentioned - tightened the airbox down, made sure there are no leaks, etc. etc. Still the bike runs extremely bad (almost like three cylinders). It wont take throttle (barely). It runs a little better on choke than off choke but still bogs down and eventually dies. I'm starting to think the guy that cleaned the carbs just missed or messed something up?? Either that or maybe it just needs synchronized (though I doubt that would make it runs this bad)? If anyone has any further ideas I can check before I sdend this thing to the scrap heap - I would be appreciative. Thanks again.
  8. OK so I got the ventrue 1200 standard on the road, Legally now. I ended up putting a set of Dunlop 404s on it...everything else was OK for the safety check. Could someone tell me again what pressure I should be running on the front and rear (no class)...and in the tires. I'm about 210 lbs. Its got a bad backfire. Only when I gear down agressively or if I really rev it up and back off in a lower gear. It backfires almost every time about 4200 rpm. If I let the revs down gently, no backfire! but there is still some popping going on. There is a minor leak in the exhaust...just enough to give it a bit of a throaty sound...not bad at all (I don't like loud bikes unless it's a high performance rocket sled) I put a 1/2 can of Seafoam into it but it hasn't made any difference so far.I've only ridden about 1 1/2 hr since I put it in. I've tried to keep the revs up and did lots of hard accelleration to give it a good chance at cleaning everything out. So where do I look for causes?
  9. I learned why we wear off the left side of our tires , I have sold bikes because i think they have a bad frame . check out this link and tell us what you think ? http://www.rattlebars.com/tirewear/index.html
  10. My tach is gone crazy runs like it's missing, removed TCI cleaned connections moving to top of air box. If I swap plug wire and connections to the left side coils will this let me know if the #2 coil is bad. Any one coming to Asheville have a good 83 TCI I could use to test. How do you get the cover off the TCI to get to the diodes to look for bad ones.
  11. My 86 VR will start up normal. I'll let it warm up for a while then take off. The bike will run rough until its fully warmed up. Its running rough longer than I think it should under the guise of being "cold blooded".. Could this symptom possibly be a coil going bad?
  12. Just for my Harley riding friends, Its not really socially acceptable but it fits in well with this crew. They are all millworkers, and Im just their Foreman They treat me bad !! They shouldn't do that! It says Why Yes, It is a f---in Yamaha. I put it on the back of my vest because thats what they see most of the time
  13. just wanted to ask for some prayers for him. today he was not doing to good? called his sister to take him to the E.R before they could get him in the room. he let lose all over the place. had a hard time breathing? checked him over and think he,s haveing real bad migraine?? while putting him in bed. they let go of him and boom down he went. now oldgoat is not a little man 250 pounds. so the damn nurse said she,s not lifting him with her bad back?? WTF if she has a bad back why work then? 2 nice men who where in the hall gave a hand. against hospitial policy of course.. got him in bed. and he was out like a light. nurse looked at us as to say now what? i said to her look honey **** or get off the pot.. got a doctor away from his nurse friend.. and they gave him a shot of something.. he,s resting ok now. but just wait till tomorrow when his sister gets a hold of the head of that staff. no migraine should do that...
  14. Mine is bad. Aggervating the mess out of me!lol Any body got a good one or know if they are still availible for a '86RSV?
  15. I've done sea foam twice and sync'd the carbs, installed new plugs. I rode about 105 miles or so today so next I'm going to pull the plugs to see how they look. OK...so I have the side cases off to do the carb sync and change plugs. I've just received the Plastex kit so I rode with the plastic off while I work on them. Tonight I went for a ride and kept getting a "pricking" feeling to my inner thigh. I thought it might have been a sharp end of a cable tie or a wire twist tie sticking me but after a few checks to see what it could be I realized it was the spark plug wire giving me minor zaps! (both left and right) So...perhaps a stupid question...but does that mean I most certainly need new plug wires? But I'm getting 34 mpg (US) or 6.1 L/100 km or 40.8 miles per Can. gal. and that was at least 3/4 of the time doubled up! SO....I now am thinking my bike is not doing so bad....and that it just isn't the powerhouse that SOME PEOPLE (who shall remain nameless eh Yammer Dan???) is just putting us on about these 1st gens being such an amazing powerhouse!
  16. I have a 04 Venture. I have had mic-mutes for three years now. Has been working great. Yesterday the wife and I went for a short ride. Right off the bat the communication was bad. A lot of noise and terrible clicking when we hit the talk buttons. One LOUD click when either button is pushed to talk and two LOUD clicks when you turn it off. It is really bad. Not fun at all. I have the driver and passenger seats off and have checked all connections. Any ideas?
  17. hello the good news my son @ daughter in law are going to have my 5th grand child the bad news is he has a 07 midnight venture and he may have to sell it if he cant keep up the payments. but can't wait to meet the new grand child bumble bee kevin wisor jax fl 1999 rsv:mustache:
  18. I believe my radio controller is bad. I got caught in (2) bad rain storms Monday and my controller turned itself on and I can not turn it off. It was completely off and all of a sudden it came on, stuck on 87.7 FM. I can not change the channel or change it to CB, AUX, etc. Has this happened to anyone and if so what's going on? It can't be a fuse because it comes on when I start the bike. There is no sound coming out of the speakers. I don't believe the rain is the culprit but it's strange it started during the downpour. Any ideas???

  21. Ok I have a situation with my charging system. Let me see if I can properly explain the problem. Recently I replaced the voltage regulator with one from electrosport. This is what my system is doing. while riding home from work at night I can see the head light, passing lights, and tail and running lights fade like they are only on battery, and then with in 3 seconds brighten back up to normal charging. it oscillates like this mainly at least as far as I can tell at higher speeds and in top gear. Does anyone think that this is just a bad regulator or my stator going bad? Please help! Jet man
  22. ok who told Dianne about if she needs help with a new to her bike? she saw a nice 650 woman owned bike here in the classified. and said hey that wold be a nice one. looks like september for her though. still if she gets settlement then she can get some ride time in. i can just see it now. vroommm around the block just to rub it in that i cant ride for now. we also talked about letting my 84 go next spring. get somethin newer and hate to say it dependable. this one just was not taken care of. thank god she found a complete exhaust system one bad right muffler rust trough but thats ok jbweld and it wont show. and mines good so? because she said james relax i want to show you something that shop showed me. i went oh no not any more bad news. she said not realy as we got the parts comming in be here tomorrow. but the old exhaust was welded in places that it should not have been. headers welded to collector front ones ? a shame to as they where not rusted and shiney i think the welded tab can be removed from them. they welded a piece of small steel from header to collector. i will post pics when and if i can. so i guess what im trying to say is they f***ed it up. mufflers are good but rest of it was shot to hell. that explains the backfire while at idle? and the one day it scared a poor woman in the crosswalk. but enough i need to take meds go for a walk then back to my easy chair.
  23. I have no ideal how or why this happened but a friend and I were just talking about our bikes and stuff and anyway to make a long story short I ended up trading my 83 venture for a 1987 venture royal. It does need a little work on the fairing parts but I figure ill do that this winter as a garage project. It actually runs good, all the gauges work and the compressor works etc. The only real bad thing is the rear tire wont hold air. it is a brand new tire, still has the tits on it, but it sat for a year and I have a feeling something is between the outer rim and tire. I just cant wait. Should have pics by this weekend. Can you all tell me of any bad "traits" of the 87 and also how does the 1200 compare to the 1300 on the open road? thanks for any info
  24. OK....I'm going to tell the story and THEN we can discuss punishment. There is a certain Canadian member here whom you just can't be nice to. The member in question has long wondered about the performance of the Second Gen Venture as he plans to replace his bike at some time in the future. So, out of the kindness of my heart, I asked this member if he would like to take my '99 on a test ride. He was pleased to do so. I got busy and have no idea how long he was gone but some time later I got this telephone call. It went something like this. Him: Hey Don, uh...do you keep proof of insurance and registration somewhere on your bike? Me: Yes, it should be in the trunk. Him: Well, what do the cops around here usually ask for? Me: That is usually all they need. What is going on? Him: Well, I was going through that first town that you told me about, the first one you come to when you turn South on 58. Me: Yes? Him: A green pickup pulled out in front of me just as I was going into town. Me: OK. Well, are you all right? Him: Yes, I'm fine...but the bike...... Me: Well, you are OK, that's the important thing. Exactly where are you? Him: Just as you come into town, across from that DrugSav. Me: OK, well I'm on my way, should be there in about 10 minutes. Him: OK. So, I grab my keys and head out of the garage to get in my car and HERE HE COMES RIDING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. LAUGHING LIKE HECK. Now...THAT was a BAD joke. Cruel and unusual punishment. Bad Canadian...BAD BAD CANADIAN. So...should I ban him or keep him around long enough to get EVEN. I'm not saying who is was but his initials are SWIFTY.
  25. Was wondering if anyone has run into this before. I just resurrected a pristine 1984 venture 20k original miles, the bike was a mess when I got it but she's alive and kickin. I rebuilt carbs, heavily varnished. Synched ran but poorly alot of popping and poor power so I pulled the TCU and it was shot full of corrosion and water, I also noticed a homemade jumper wire going from the 3 to 4 coil, I cut but left in place, then went and bought a used TCU and it ran alot better but still not right. I then reconnected wire and it runs like a champ.. Any thoughts, I'm afraid its overdriving the drivers in the TCU, is the TCU bad, is the coils bad, is the pickups bad?. Anyone done this and why. Thanks Mike
