  1. As I am in Australia, product information is sometimes difficult if not impossible to get. I find that I can not rely on the glossy brocures and the dealers that I have contacted generally do not have the user information that I require. IT seems that their main interest is only to sell you something, and subsequently let you find out for yourself. So here is the guts of this post I am thinking about an upgrade from my old faithfull 1996 Royal Star, and have wondered if anyone has had the opportunity to test ride the latest, or any other version, of the FJR 1300. I would be most interested to hear their impressions about:322: this machine. And Also possibly what changes and or upgrades has Yamaha done over the last few models. In other words would any one recommend any particular model or year. Do you know of any glaring, obvious or not, faults or things to watch out for with this run of motorcycle. Any comment or feedback will be very appreciated. Thanks in anticapation of your comments. Winston66
  2. I am swapping out my 1200 for a 1300 engine and need some help with the wiring differences can anyone help me? thanks
  3. I'm looking at the KURY 4549 Adjustable Cruise Peg Mounts (pr) Fits: Yamaha: Road Star & V Star 950, 1100, & 1300 with stock floorboards I know they don't list the RSTD, but when I look at the parts catalogue on the Yamaha website, i see that the VSTAR 1300 and the RSTD have the same part # for the floorboard, 4NK-27451-10. Does anyone know a reason why I can't mount those on my RSTD? Thanks
  4. Does the 1200 and 1300 share the same carbs? I guess that the jets etc are different but is the rest identical?
  5. I have a RAM mount for a Garmin Nuvi 200 series GPS. If anyone would like it, just PM me. I went up to a 1300 and it takes a different mount. Note, this is only for the piece that hods the GPS...
  6. My 2006 FJR 1300 which is fuel injected does not have a Fuel Filter
  7. Hi All, I have an 83 Venture Royale, with an 86 1300 in it. I also have a parts bike, 83 VR with 1200. The 1200 has a plain airbox lid, while my other one (1300) has a lid with an apparatus on the front part, that has a 4 pin square connector with 3 wires on it, and a separate spade terminal wire. It also has a red LED which is lit at idle, but when the engine is revved up, the LED goes out. What is this apparatus, and is it for the 86 engine, or something that was originally on the 83. This bike also has the Markland cruise control, which isn't working right now, but that is another post...?? I am just curious as to what this device is? Size is about 3-4 in. wide by 2in. deep
  8. Have had a 83 VR for two years now and have been working on an overheating problem. The 83 VR has an 86 (1300) motor because the PO had a second gear problem and replaced the whole engine. Anyway, the bike has been running hot since I bought it (right up at the red/green line). When the weather is in the high 80's low 90's it boils over when stopped at a light or in traffic, etc.. (See my posts from earlier this year) I have changed everything trying to correct the problem. I was going to sell the bike for parts and have bought a 89 VR from a member on this forum and am in the process of fixing it up and getting it ready to ride next season. I took the 89VR to Earl to have some mechanical work done on it and spoke to him about the overheating on the 83 VR. He said that he thought the TCI was the original one from the 83 and that the timing curve was different from the 86 engine that was currently in the bike. He thinks that that is what is creating the overheating problem. I stumbled across the article about the foreign made TCI and it said in the thread that the 83 had a different timing mode than the later engines. So, I think my overheating problems may be because I have a 1200 TCI in the bike and not a 1300 TCI. I don't think the original PO changed the TCI but cannot confirm that with the previous PO. I do not want to teardown the bike to get the TCI out, instead I just want to try a 1300 TCI and put it on top of the airbox and see if that corrects the problem. I will be selling this bike in the spring if it solves the problem , otherwise I will part it out as I don't want to sell this bike with this problem. I now own a 89 VR, which is being worked on by Earl (Skydoc) and don't need two bikes. Does anyone have a TCI for an 86 1300 engine they would like to sell? Thanks Jim
  9. Just ran across this and thought it might be a deal for anyone looking for an engine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260671594241&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

  11. Well Thanks to all who were helping me try to obtain that motor on Ebay, as it turns out it is to much for shipping . I thank you all:ice_thy-vi101212101 you know who you are .. Mike R.. What a great gang we have here. Any motors for sale close to Calgary? 1300 Venture..or Montana/
  12. Correct me if I am wrong. ..But I believe you can put a 1300 1st gen rear drive unit on a 1200. So, IF YOU had a 1300 1st gen. and had a chance on buying low mileage 1200 rear w/shaft and swing arm complete at a really cheap price , that you personally inspected . Would you buy it for your aging 1300 to keep as a spare???
  13. Hello. I could find the headlight, rear brake disc, mirrors, flashers. Yamaha XVZ 1300 Royal vm-1987. my bike pictures is www.orv.fi/yamaha

  15. Well, after 5 years on the RSV, I went to the dark side. Traded my 04 RSV for a 06 Ultra Classic. Please no boo's or hisses. Bought the RSV, it had 1300 miles, yes 1300 miles for $10,000 even. Traded it this week at Harley dealer for $7,000 which I didn't think was bad and picked up the Ultra. Its and 06 with 24,000 miles.
  16. First of all I want to thank all the members of Venturerider.org. After 20 years of not riding a motorcycle I finally decided to start riding again. I wanted a full dress cruising machine and started looking at what was out there. I ran across a very nice 1983 Yamaha venture. I loved the look of the bike so I started researching it. I came across Venturerider very quickly and read a ton of information. After all the reading I purchased the bike. I did know 2nd gear was out when I purchased the bike and understood what was required to fix it. After riding the bike I decided I wanted 2nd gear to work. Again I read everything I could find on the subject and also everything about what engines were affected and when Yamaha corrected this gear issue. I also looked into what was involved in swapping out a 1200 engine with the newer 1300. I found only a small amount of information on the subject of engine swap. I then found a 1988 Venture 1300cc engine with only 30k miles for $350 bucks. With this find I decided it was worth trying to swap engines no matter haw much modification was required. Here is what I found out about putting an ’88 1300cc engine into a ’83 1200cc bike, Fit - the engine bolts up perfectly. Exhaust - the 1200 exhaust fits perfectly. YICS - the 1200 YICS chamber is not needed on the 1300 so leave it off Carburetors - the 1200 carburetors appear to work perfectly. I only have a few hundred miles on it now so I will continue to monitor this. Radiator - The ’83 radiator lower hose fitting is weak. It came off with the hose. I could have had it repaired at a radiator shop but I found a good ’88 radiator for 40 bucks. The ’88 has this area reinforced. Thermostat - It appears the thermostat for all Ventures are no longer available from Yamaha and I was surprised to fine no information on this on Venturerider. After extensive research I found only one thread on another site that indicated that the Napa Parts thermostat number 156 will fit like the original and works just fine. I compared the Napa 156 with the original and decided to use it. The original has a small vent hole with a weight to help bleed the air out when filling the cooling system. If it makes you fill better you can drill a small 1/32” hole to match the original. I chose not to do this. The cooling system filled fine and works perfectly. The temperature gauge now stays right in the middle. Starter – the 1200 starter fits and works perfectly. Electrical – You will need an electrical schematic for the 1200 and the 1300 to get it right. The generator lead connector and the pick up lead connector fit perfectly. The Neutral indicator wire for the 1200 bike is a single black and yellow wire. The 1300 engine has a multi wire plug. In this plug there is a ski blue wire that is the neutral indicator. I made the single wire from the bike into a spade connector and inserted it into the ski blue slot on the multi wire connector. I then sealed this complete plug with shrink tube and electrical tape to keep the dirt out. The oil level indicator connects to the only singe wire coming from the 1300 engine. I did not take the time to find out what the other wires in the 1300 multi conductor are for. I did not really care because my ’83 doesn’t require them. After swapping the engine I balanced the carbs and cleaned and adjusted everything. The bike and engine combination are fantastic – I love this bike and can not wait to put many miles under its wheels. Thanks again to all the members at Venturerider.org.
  17. Can anyone inform me about the Needle Shim Mod for a 1300 First Gen?
  18. So, I'm putting an '86 1300 engine in my '83 Venture, and I will be using my '83 1200 carburetors. I was told that the '86 coils & TCI unit are better components than the '83 ignition components, and that I should swap them into the '83. Upon looking around in my '86 shop manual, I learn that the '86 ignition system spark timing advance goes like this; vacuum from the 1300 carbs goes to an electronic sensor unit, which sends signals to the TCI unit via the '86 1300 wiring harness, and the timing is advanced in certain vacuum states. If this is the case, I will not be able to use at least the '86 TCI unit in my '83 because of (1) I'm using my '83 1200 carbs, and (2) my '83 wiring harness will not accomodate the '86 electronic vacuum sensor signals going to the TCI unit. Can anyone verify my research and logic, and verify that I will NOT be able to use the '86 TCI unit in my '83. I think I should still be able to use the '86 coils, but, 1) are they better? & 2) Why are they better? Thank you! Doug Nordin
  19. hello can someone tell wher starter for 86 vr 1300 is located thanx

  22. Will the mufflers off of a 84 1200 fit on an 86 1300 ?
  23. HI, I have a friend of mine who has a 1300 Venture Royal. He is having trouble with the bike. I have found a 1200 Venture for this man. Other then the engine is htere much diffenrence. Is the exhaust system the same on both bikes?
  24. I was told that the right steering is a little bend before i bought my Venture 1200 project. But now i found that it must be the triple tree. In Ebay there are some triple trees for the 1300. Extreme cheap, but high intl. shipping cost at some sellers. I found out that the lower part is the same part number with both models (1200 & 1300). But the upper part is 26H-23435-02-98 for the 1200 and 1NL-23440-00-98 for the 1300. Does anybody know what the difference is? Are these parts interchangeable? Or does someone have a good for me and will ship it for small money to Switzerland? Thank you Holger
