  1. Hopefully by now most members are aware that Minnesota will be once again hosting the Pork in the Pines Pig Roast over the 2009 Labor day week end (visit www.porkinthepines.com) The guest of honor has been invited, and I am currently working on some of the other mundane issues. One of those issues involves the menu for the free breakfast on Saturday morning. In another thread, Sarges46 mentioned that he "loved" biscuits. This got me to thinking. (I know... really dangerous.) Anyway, I was thinking, would it be possible to include biscuits and gavy on the menu. Would take a bit more work and require that I get up really early, but if enough folks were interested, I think we could do it. So, the question is... How many folks planning on being at the Pork in the Pines breakfast would like to have biscuits and gravy? Right now, breakfast will include Eggs cooked to order (as long as you order scrambled) Sausages Hot cakes (or pancakes) Fried taters Toast Coffee Remember, this years PIP is free for all attendees (A donation jar will be set up for those that would like to make a donation to help is cover the costs). As always, there will be plenty of free camping space... (B ut the choice sites are going quick) For that you will get: Chili social meet and greet Friday night Breakfast Saturday morning Rosted hog with all the fixins Saturday night Free cigars (Thanks to Juggler) at the bonfire Saturday night Breakfast Sunday morning (if I can get a sponsor) Pulled Pork Sandwiches Sunday evening We will also be doing a bike service workshop and Brandi (Crows Nest) has graciously volunteered her bike for a pipe tuning... So, let me know about the biscuits and gravy as the cook (who can get really obnoxious if he is caught short) will need some additional time to up the biscuits.... Thanks to all who have registered to date, and if you're considering coming up this year and have not registered, please do so now to give us a handle on how many to expect. Again, registration can be done at www.porkinthepines.com Or just give us a heads up here. Black owl
  2. for all those that may not know about it randall at the hub is going to bbq for us on tuesday night of the meet. if you are going to attend the bbq go to vr polls and vote, so we can get a count. it will be pay the hub when you eat. randall really enjoys entertaining the bikers and he volunteered to do this for us. thanks bill
  3. hey la give us an up date on your leg. are you coming to the hub? i have a campsite for us at vogel. think you will be able to ride down with me. i figure you can stop at my house, spend a night or two, and we will take off from here. i'm off work for the first two weeks of august. bill
  4. Folks, I'm sorry but I just don't have the energy right now to go through all the post about Maintenance Day. Will try to do it tomorrow night when I get to my hotel. I do want to thank all who attended though. It was our true pleasure to host this even again this year and we had a fantastic time. Not sure if anybody got a count or not. I heard numbers as high at 130 bikes and probably close to 200 people at one time or another. I just know that how EVER many it was...they used a LOT of toilet paper. The only folks left here now are GaryN and Mary and they will be pulling out tomorrow morning. What a great bunch this is. I'm truly humbled by the kindness and genuine goodness of our members here. For those of you who have never made this event or one of our many others, you have no idea what you are missing. Good Night all.

  6. This has nothing to do with biking...but a funny thing happened last weekend. To make a long story short....my neice got married Sat night and we have been bustin our butts to get the farm ready for my parents 50th party the next day. My oldest son was suppose to be married by a jp in a couple of weeks, but Grandma made a special request from them Sat night. "Wouldn't it be fun if you two could be married on Grandpa and my 50th anniversary? I could line up a minister by tommorrow!" So, that's what happened!! The kids asked grandpa and grandma to stand up for them, the minister was a trooper and the guests that came for the anniversary party ended up at a wedding! They thought it was great! What a wonderful weekend and now I finally have a daughter!! Life is good! Thanks for letting me share.....
  7. Rocket called last night, and after we stopped BS'ing I went outside and was treated to a lightening display like I've never seen in these parts for close to 40 years.. It constantly thundered for over a half hour. I know in the midwest this is probably a drop in the bucket, but around here it's non-existant... until last night. We generally get one cold storm the first part of June and it dumps 6" to a foot on snow in the Sierras, but this one was warm and came right out of the south. Amazing stuff for a California Boy....
  8. Hi Guys. I have a big 10'x18' tent that sleeps 7. I will only have 3 people in it for M.D. I would be willing to have 2 more share it if they would like. That would probably be the comfortable limit for adults. It will have me, my brother and my uncle sleeping in it on friday night, and then we will be departing after saturdays events are over, so it's a one night free hotel thanks to Don. Any takers? First two people to post will have dibs!!! Big Mike
  9. growing up rural in the midwest i didn,t start thinking about deer until the fall when it was time to break out the orange and sight in the rifle. springtime was just not when i looked for deer. however, now that i,m on the road for a living i tend to see a lot more than most people. since the snow has melted i have been seeing more on the roads than i can remember. last night a suv passed me and before he could move back to the right lane a doe ran in front of him and took out his left side. allrighty, an insurance claim for an expedition but if it was a bike? just saying, be careful, be aware, the deer are still here. al
  10. just got off the phone with wildhair. he posed a question about tent camping. there will be plenty of room for tent camping adjacent to the motel, and there is a motel room available with a shower and toilet that the campers can use. there is also plenty of room for motorhomes and campers on concrete but no hook ups. they will also have access to the bathroom and shower. the charge for motorhomes, campers, and tent camping is $10.00 per night. we are planning on having the barbeque on tuesday night. it will be pay when you eat. if you want to do that. still waiting for info on the karaoke, thursday night after the meal. do we have anyone attending that does karaoke? we will take a poll in july on who will be eating at the barbeque so randall at the hub can figure the food. thats the latest info. bill

  12. My wife and I are riding to Chimney Rock memorial day weekend. We will be staying in Chimney Rock friday and saturday night. Are there any sights we should try to see while there. Thanks.
  13. well, what a crowd showed up for the meet last night. we met at the crackerbarrel at 7pm and took a short ride to my house, for coffee and cake. alot of old freinds are here, and met a bunch of new members. all in all, as usual, a great bunch of people. as tired as i was, i had a ball. wrongway and lowell came yesterday afternoon and we sat on the patio and drank a few beers and did some reminising, when i should have been catching up on some sleep. well i'm ready to hit it again for the big ride today. we meet again at 8am. got to go clean the bike up a little before i leave. kbran had a spill in some gravel on the trip here and hurt his ankle. he stayed in the room last night with an ice pack on it, i hope he is okay. i will check on him this morning. bill ps. i heard a little bit of gossip last night. wrongway just may have lived up to his name again and missed my street with the group he was leading. i saw them go by, don't want to make any false accusations. i will get to the bottom of it today. :rotf::rotfl:
  14. Now that we are into 90+ degree weather here all ready ( Florida ), I don't have a good light motorcycle jacket to wear. I have several motorcycle jackets, leathers, and mesh, but none of them seem to carry well in the bike. They take up allot of room when not using them. The mesh jackets work great, but with all the armour inside, there hard to fold up. Even with them removed, there still bulky, take up half my saddle bag I was out riding for Little while tonight, and this Harley rider was getting gas at the same time I was, and He threw on a light HD Motorcycle jacket. It was perfect, he pulled it outta his saddle bags, and I could tell just from the material, it was probably fleece inside, and a light material outside, or something like that, and it looked comfortable, and was rolled up nicely when he removed. HD always seems to have nice appeal, all though it's expensive Any suggestions for an all around light weight jacket, for carrying around in the summer time, to throw on maybe on a chilly night while out riding? I ALWAYS carry my heated vest, so If the temp drop down into the lower 60's at night, I could throw the heated vest on low, under the jacket Thanks for your help. Seems I have a ton of jackets, but there all to heavy to carry for here in FL for just a throw on when it gets chilly at night

  16. Buzzman and I rode our bikes to the local Moose lodge Thurs. night for burgers and my son drove sence his bike is in the shop ( he joined and Buzzman and I just joined a week ago) It happened to be Mooseriders night and we parked with the other bikes. Stood outside for 10 min. talking with a Wing rider before going in. Buzzman had just wiped his 08 RSV down before coming to my house and I had washed mine the night before. As we were leaving ( one and a half hours later) , we stopped at the road and I noticed something on Buzzmans trunk, Yelled at him and we got off to look. SOMEONE HAD KEYED HIS LOWER TRUNK ! So deep that it went though the paint and gouged the plastic. Looked at my bike and found a four inch key mark on the left saddlebag lid (side) not deep will rub out no problem. Went back and talked with the other riders and they all seemed upset and checked their bikes. Ours were the only ones gotten. Security camera not working over the bikes. Everyone said they will be fixed shortly after this! Mostly Harley's there that night. They did ask if we wanted to go for a ride with them afterwards. We diclined as we were not in the mood. A couple of them did mention that they looked at our bikes when they got there and they loved Buzzman's speedometer. It kind of bothered me that noone asked who had the strange bikes out front and would we like to join their meeting before it started. This lodge is out in the country and quit a ways off the road. Probably 3 or 4 hundred yards off the road. Anyway--We are wondering what to do. Voice your 2 cents worth. Do we stay members if we are approved or do we ask for our money back ? PS--The member that recruited us asked around and no one has heard of any other problem of cars or anything being keyed before. Everyone he talked to seemed upset about this incident. Thanks Gil Opps--title should read 4 or 5 inch ( typing to fast)
  17. I was out at Leesburgh biker event this past weekend, and Custom Dynamic's was there as always with their trailer set up. I bought their LED Night Riderz RUN/BRAKE strip, which I have to say, when I saw it, it was extremely bright, and for $26.00 bucks, I had to try it. It took less then 15 min to install, and looks awesome ! It has a LED light that goes back and forth like Night Rider in RUN mode, and when you hit the brake, it flashes 5 times, before staying lite. I mounted mine right under the license plate, on the reflector, and it is perfect. I'm next going to buy their light bar for under the trunk. Here's the link to their LED strip I just bought, when you open the page, its the first set of 3 videos on top, and the first one to the left, to see a demo. Custom Dynamics did it again! http://www.customdynamics.com/knight_rider_led_light_bar.htm
  18. ....Lonna that is. She and her daughter are on their way to Houston as her mother fainted and is in the hospital. Seems she might have suffered a stroke, she's anemic and is recieving blood transfusions. Lonna talked with her this morning and she was pretty cohereant. Unfortunately I could not join her as someone has to make money to pay for it, but she's rolling. Right now she's in Indianapolis at DanOB11's for the evening and will spend the night with Dan and Rose, tomorrow she's on her way further down to who know's where I'd like to thank Dan and Rose for their hospitality and keeping my baby safe and with friends. I think that she will make it to hopefully Little Rock Arkansas and stay somewhere in that area tomorrow night and then on to Houston on Thursday. I know our Houston members will make her feel right at home. So if you see a crazy little redhead with her 30 YO blonde daughter in a Burgundy Buick Rainier with Michigan plates on some south bound Interstate, honk and wave.
  19. Does anyone watch "Ghost Hunters"? Last year for Christmas Big Tom surprised me with a night at Rolling Hills Sanatarium. The Ghost Hunters guys did a program on the place when they were here in Western New York, and it happens to be a half hour East from us in Betthany New York. Talk about a crazy night....we got some really good EVP's on the recorder..(unheard at the time...answers to questions we asked). We went with a few other people...some were skeptics...although after that night I don't think they are skeptics any longer. We were locked in for the night...the hunt started at 10pm and went until 6am. Some of our experiences were being guided out of a room..from behind....when no one was behind us....to loud noices that we couldn't explain...plenty of whispers and shadows. We hope to go back. What do you say....any BELIEVERS?
  20. I decided to take my bike from Houston to San Antonio for a public meeting in the evening. It was 8:30 when the meeting ended, so I enjoyed a peaceful night ride home. Little traffic on I-10, only two cars that I passed. Bunch of trucks, mostly in platoons. More often, there was no one in front or behind me. My RSTD purred like a kitten, loving the cool night air. It was an easy, easy ride. The only bad thing was getting home near midnight, 411 miles on the OD. I had to sleep fast because the alarm still went off at 5:30. And yet, today my seldom-riding friends expressed near shock that I would be stupid/brave enough to ride at night. I've heard it a few times before, and I am left scratching my head. What is their reasoning? All they can say is it is dangerous, and they hate riding at night. Heck, I added passing lamps and LED tail lights so I could ride at night. I am probably more noticeable at night than during the day. I have good night vision... maybe they don't. What do you think? Do you like the super slabs at night?
  21. Is anybody in the upper half of the US going to be able to do any riding this weekend? I'm starting to go bonkers. The hubby and I don't mind putting on snowpants and going for a spin in about 35 degree weather but it's to cold to even do that. I know it's early but it's still in the 20's here, cold, snowed again last Monday and sounds like it's going to stay that way for a while yet. I'm tired of pulling into the garage every night and seeing that chrome just staring at me. This has been one verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long winter. I'll quit my whining now...thanks for letting me vent.
  22. I will be camping at the Cabbage Patch on Feb 27th to March 3rd for the beginning of bike week if anyone would like to meet up or have a brewski let me know I will give my cell #. Camping out there is fun, at night I like to get a nice fire going and most of the other bikers are very friendly.
  23. I was thinking, after reading the prize list for Ft. Collins, about all the prizes being really great and all, but more "Man", "Man and his scooter", "Boy and his dog", oriented. Here's the idea, mull it over and see if this sounds like something you want to do. Ladies, the ones I know at least, like baskets of stuff. Now, I don't know if each would be willing to work up a basket or not but you could make them with different themes. Some themes would be.......Movie night, relaxation, bath night, romance, coffee lovers, chocolate lovers, book lover etc. etc., etc. you get the idea. Movie night could be a basket with a movie, microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, goobers etc. things you'd eat at the movies....you know, bath night could be a basket with stuff from Bath and body works, a CD of relaxing music, you know, things you can pamper yourselves with in the bath...etc. let your minds go wild. I think this would be a great way for the ladies to get more involved and get some stuff as well. Most of these would not cost all that much to make and could be fun things to give away at the rally. You could even make some up for the guys if you really wanted to (Naw they get enough stuff anyway). They could be done in advance and brought or you could do them here. There is a Michael's, Hobby Lobby (for baskets), Bath and Body works and lots of other places to get things here.
  24. Well This Friday AM I am leaving for a 1500+ mile ride to Big Bend National park.Yes we will have COLD weather,42 in the AM and 68-70 in the daytime but I will not complain as it is to be SUNNY all 3 days with the exception of Sunday and a few clouds. If anyone in our Texas bunch happens to be out that way we will be in Marathon,Texas Friday and Saturday night at the Marathon Motel. They have a VERY nice pavillion area with a very nice outdoor fireplace,We have our Salsa and Chips and Margaritas for our evening BS sessions so if anyone wants to meet up we will see ya there..Oh yea GaryN,Ramblingman,Blueslover..I will be thinking of you guys..And yes Squid and Freebird also...There is HOPE for all of you that winter will soon be over..We have had it tough here in Texas this winter!I will post pictures Sunday night.
  25. I would like to invite each of you to my local dealers bike night, this is always a good time. Every couple of months they put on this event and it has gotten bigger and better each time. We are about 30 miles East of Houston Texas and the event will be held Feb.28 from 4-8 pm, I am posting the link to the information on their webpage. http://www.tejasmotorsports.com/event_detail.asp?event=348086
