  1. A friend of mine has a 86 Goldwing 1200 Interstate and his seat padding is gone. The seat looks good on the outside, but the inside padding is shot. He is setting on the metal seat pan which is very uncomfortable. He has looked on eBay, but had no luck. Does anyone has any suggestions on a good fix that doesn't break the bank?
  2. Can anyone tell me where I might find an OEM seat with driver backrest for a 2001 RSV? My 6+ year old Corbin is starting to wear out and I was thinking of trying the OEM style. Even used would be okay if it was in good shape. Thanks
  3. Check this out! Saw these great covers at the Star B Que in Texas and purchased one, and I think it's worth your time. The web site is www.coveralls.biz, Ver unique and totally different from the "regular" covers we have all seen, and maybe own. These folks even have a cover just for the seat, for use when you get off the bike and leave it in the sun or rain. David R.
  4. Let me start off by apologizing for these questions. I'm sure they've been asked before but having a hard time with searching for them. 1. I have read about changing the front tire to a narrower tire to improve handling. How does it do this? I was always under the impression that the closer the tire sizes the better the handling. 2. Is there a big firmness difference between the pillow top seat and the regular seat? I believe mine came with a pillow top and is way to soft for me. I was thinking of finding a regular RSV seat and use that if it is firmer. 3. Cupholders? I have read about a couple of them with pros and cons but was hoping to hear from someone that has had one a while and still likes it. 4. Why does my light come on and I go into reserve but when I fill it up it only takes 4.4 gallons? Isn't it a 5.9 gallon tank? Is there a trick to this? 5. If I remove the clear lowers on the bottom of the fairing will it direct more air to the midsection area? I love the bike but you don't get much airflow in the cockpit. I have also been toying with a lower windshield but at 6' I wasn't sure where the air would hit. Now with the tall stock screen it hits the top of my head. 6. Exhaust. I don't want something obnoxious but after riding a Vmax and then a Warrior I can barely tell the RSV is running. What kind of upgrades has been done to add some sound? Not loud, just louder or throatier than stock. OK that's it for now. I will continue to keep reading away trying to get some answers, I'm just kind of cheating doing it this way. Thanks everyone.
  5. I have managed to get my left rear fairing off without any problems but can't get the right side to budge. Have read threads on taking off front fairing and seat but not much on rear fairings. Do I need to take off the seat to get at the 'hangers' for the rear fairings or do they sometimes get rusted in a stubborn? Didn't want to break the snap off trying to get it off... Thanks James
  6. I have a 2007 RSV and the drivers seat is not working for me. After 50 or so miles, my hips are hurting, I'm developing monkeybutt, etc. But my wife loves her seat. I've added a sheepskin pro pad to the drivers seat and that helps a lot, but still not comfortable for a long ride. So I'm open to suggestions. Does anyone make replacement seats for the driver alone? I also already have a 3rd party drivers backrest and don't want to lose it. Best Regards, Leonard
  7. Hey Folks, I need a little help on a 1999 RSV. I purchased it on Ebay from a dealer in FL and had it shipped to my son-in-laws in Wilton, CT. We're flying to CT next week to ride. Here's the glitch...when the bike was dleivered, Mark inadvertently left the ignition on accessory and ran the battery down. I told him he had to remove the seat in order to gain access to the battery to charge it. The bike has an aftermarket Saddleman Road Sofa seat. Below is what he emailed me whe he tried to get the seat off. " I have been unable to get the seat off of your bike to date. There is a bolt in the front of the seat with a nut which needs to come off but the bolt is spinning freely. The top of the bolt seems to be within the seat with no means of getting to it. I am also barely able to get to the nut so there is no way to secure the bolt while turning the nut. I will keep trying but I am beginning to lose hope. I worked on it for about two hours so far this morning." Now, can the battery be charged from the AuxiliaryDC Jack? If so, where do I tell him to look for it and how would he goa about using it to charge the battery? I haven't even seen the bike yet, so I'm just going from what I can find on the net. Thanks for any help. Jeff
  8. I have a 2007 rsv is there a backrest i can put on with the stock seat?
  9. Well i must say thanks to all for the tips and to this site for all the good info. I have saved a chunk of money by not having to go to the stealer for repairs besides "they dont work on old bikes like mine". So i have changed all the fluids and Im going to do some minor repairs on the plastic, install new seals and progressive springs just as soon as they arrive next week. With the info on this site it should be a piece of cake. After that me and some of the guys are riding to the Ozarks for a little fun. Everybody at work likes my bike and says they wish they had a cb and a radio and all that trunk space. Im happy because i told the wife i wanted a bike ( havent had a bike since i sold the cb 900 12 years ago) but it had to have a windshield and a good back seat so the both of us could ride easy. Well i must say momma is very happy with the rear seat and the view. She says she likes to ride on THIS motorcycle. So i guess were keepin it.

    corbin seat color

Just purchased a new corbin seat full set for my 05 midnite venture and im not satasfied with the color and the workmanship. want to know if any one elses seat looks more gray than black and if the stiching is not up to parr or uniform. I like the way it looks on the bike and I like the way it sits but I dont like the color and quality in stitching.
  11. Rebuilding Pillow-Top Seat on '06 RSV Thanks to Jake (jakenator6) Hannon for this excellent tech article. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image003.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image004.jpg After about 8000 miles, the seat on my RSV was beginning to give me some severe discomfort. I felt, since it had been comfortable earlier, the foam might be breaking down a bit. The pressure point was exactly in the back center, right where the tailbone resides. My decision was to rebuild the seat with more of a dished out saddle effect and put firmer foam in place. Attached are photos and description of what I did. Starting point was to get a photo of the seat before I started removing things. Always useful when putting things back together. First job was removing the staples. Easily accomplished with a flat bladed screwdriver and pliers. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image007.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image008.jpg The seat cover is held onto the foam with pull-through fasteners seen above. These are easily removed with some needle nosed pliers but some care needs to be taken as they are not exactly robust. Grab one side of the metal clip, pull up to get some slack, and push it through the center hole of the plastic washer. Once the cover is off, use the needle nosed pliers to push the fastener through the foam. I think there were 9 of these. The vinyl cover is now separated from the seat. The seat pan is also pictured. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image011.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image012.jpg The soft, white foam on top will need to be pulled off. It was glued to the denser foam but take your time and they can be separated into reusable condition. I was not planning to reuse the soft cover and was planning some surgery on the denser foam so I was not as meticulous as I could have been. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image015.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image016.jpg I used the removed soft top as a template and cut a new pillow from much denser foam 1" thick. In hindsight, I would still use the denser foam but only 1/2" thick. The old foam was so soft it compressed easily and gave the seat it's puffy look. The new foam compressed very little and was the dickens to get the cover stretched back over. Putting those stringed fasteners back through is a job that is guaranteed to test your mettle. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image019.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image020.jpg Based upon the recommendation from this site, I used a flap disc on a drill to start reshaping the seat. The right picture above is how things had progressed with this tool. It really did some smooth work but my plan was to remove a lot more foam so I resorted to an electric carving knife. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image023.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image024.jpg The above photos show most of the knife work. I took the rear center of the seat down almost 3" since I planned to build it up with some really stiff 1/2" foam as a base. From the center back, I taper it up to give a smooth dished saddle shape. This was way past the point of no return. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image027.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image028.jpg I used some 1/2" foam rubber intended for flooring in play rooms. A little puzzle work and some spray adhesive got things stuck in place. I had also carved out a niche for the backrest piece you see in the above right picture. I really wanted some more support at the back and to spread my weight to the wider parts of my posterior. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image031.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image032.jpg Some more knife work and spray adhesive and the new pillow top was ready for recovering. http://www.venturerider.org/seat/image034.jpg Getting the cover back on will take two people, more patience than I had, and some needle nosed vice grips. The plastic seat base is hard and stapling takes even more patience. How's it work? Pretty good I must say. I've put in two 300 miles days and the pressure point in the center is gone. The built up back rest is largely negated by all that 1" foam (pillow stuff), but it is still an improvement. If you're not happy with how your seat feels, changing it is within the tool capacity of most of us. I wouldn't hesitate to try it again but right now I'm OK with what I have.
  12. I have the complete Ultimate set up for my 97 RSTD. Every once in a while I like to have just a solo look. With the Ultimate set up, the driver uses the backrest that is part of the passenger seat. So, I got hold of Bob at Utopia to find out if his backrest would work with the drivers Ultimate seat. He wasn't sure but sent me the bar to find out (at no charge mind you). Well, the bar fit so I ordered the rest of the backrest. Now, going solo with the Utopia backrest and the Ultimate drivers seat is nothing short of sweet. However, I discovered that you cannot use the passenger seat (minus the Ultimate drivers backrest) with the Utopia backrest as the seat cannot be pushed forward enough to get the rear bolt in. No biggie...use the Utopia baackrest pad with the Ultimate bar. So with this ability to have a mix and match combination you end up with the best of both worlds. Pretty cool! For my comfort I prefer the larger Utopia backrest pad, although the Ultimate backrest is certainly an excellent product. Andy
  13. I have the stock seat on my Royal Star and it's a pain after about 100 miles. Is there a newer Royal seat that will fit on my bike or does anyone have one for sale? I tried a ProPad on the way to Rolling Thunder this las weekend and took it off after around 125-150 miles. It was no better then the stock seat. By the way I saw several RSV in the parade was any of you guys there?
  14. Hi Can anyone tell me how to remove the front (driver's) seat from a 2006 RSV???? Thanks in advance SpEEd Safely CG
  15. I recently purchased a 2006 RSV. I really like it. The ride is plush and I like all the other ammenities. My wife really likes the big back seat. BUTTTTTTTT... I am a big guy and the driver's seat isn't comfortable at all. It offers no lower back support and that hump on the front of it does a number on the family jewels. Is there something more comfortable out there? I can probably "break my body in" to the hump in the front of the seat but I need more back support. I see there are driver backrests out there. I was hoping someone here might have one for sale that I can buy so I won't be out the full $250-300 for a new one if it doesn't work out for me... Thanks SpEEd Safely CG
  16. I have searched the threads to which I have not found the answer I was hoping to find. The question is this, How long can you stay seated on your stock seat before it begins to become uncomfortable. Miles or lenght of time I guess is what I am looking for. It might not be the seat either, just the idea of sitting there not really moving alot. Thanks, David
  17. Hi fellow RSTD riders! There's a projector on the bottom of the stock seat that should slip into a slot on the frame. This stabilizes the back of the seat. I have had the darndest time getting the projector into the slot. Its almost impossible. Its so hard to see whats going on, but just wondered if anyone else had a problem like this and what might be done about it. Thanks, Jim:confused24:
  18. I just recently purchased a dual tourer corbin seat with heat (second hand) for my RSTD. Problem is, it came with no instructions to hook up the wiring. I believe each seat is made for a specific bike and the wiring is also. I went on the corbin web site but could not find any info (installation instructions etc.). If anyone has one and can tell me how to plug it in I would appreciate it. Thanks, Red

  20. I have the Ultimate set up on my 97 RSTD. I wnt to have the option to change it to a solo bike but in doing so, I lose the backrest that;s with the Ultimate passenger seat. Does anyone know if there's a backrest out there that will work with the drivers Ultimate seat? Thanks! Andy
  21. I got rid of my '02 wing just to try something different,my wife rides a '02 silverado so I bought a '06 RSTD.I could ride 800 miles on my wing with no problems,it had the stock seat with a Utopia back rest.I ride 10 miles on the RSTD and when I get off my tailbone hurts,I mean HURTS.After 800 miles in 6 weeks I had to take 3 weeks off of riding 'cause my back hurt so bad.Yes,I dont have the best back in the world, but I could ride my wing forever and I was OK.I'm 6'3 weigh 235,will a Utopia or other seat help,or am I wasting my time and should I go back to a Wing?I'm trying to like this thing, but I feel like I got out of a 2006 caddy and got into a 1965 VW beetle.Advice is appreciated, would a Road Star be more comfortable? Thanks...
  22. Well ---I sent them back. Not the fault of the seat--They just didnt fit me, They were uncomfortable on my legs. The back rest set me up too straight. Im sure thats the way they were suppose to set but it was very uncomfortable for me. ANNNNND The most important reason GGMa said "NO-I dont like them". Im sure they would have felt better as time went by-- but too expensive to take the chance. Again the seats looked great but was just not for me. Not sure what im going to do GGMa likes her stock seat and Mustang does not make a rider seat that fits the stock passenger seat. Im told that Corbin is a HARD seat and thats what I dont want. Woe-Woe-Woe is me ---better that I could find a soft seat to fit my old rear=====Buzz
  23. I'm looking for a better seat for my 1st gen venture. The stock one is fine for a few hours But after that my wife and i both start getting alittle uncomfortable. Does anyone know of a good replacement??
  24. does anyone know if I could swap the bigger venture seat to the tour deluxe without any major mods? 2005 model...thanks paul
  25. I'm looking for tips on how to clean up the seat and the plastic on my '83. The Plastic: I saw Tnventurer's tip on mop & glow, but was wondering how to prep for it. There's old wax that's whitened and otherwise dull coating on the plastic. Any recommendations on something that can clean it up before I try the mop & glow? The Seat: It's in good shape structurally (original brown) but has different patches of crud on it and some sticky spots. Not sure if this is deterioration of the original finish or accumulated residues. Any suggestions on how to clean it up without damaging the seat cover? Thanks for any suggestions.
