  1. I am not one to speak up, I usually sit back and just read. But if you are going to make assumptions then state it. I looked and found that story and nothing was stated that the motorcyclist even had a helmet on. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/laworder/story/C9DA707B1C48923D8625747F00135D2B?OpenDocument The topic is been hashed out over and over. It is your right to wear your helmet if you choose to, but don't assume we all should because it is safer. If it was all about being safe. I would not be riding, not even my car would I drive. I ride my Bike because it is worth the risk, to have the air rushing by and feeling the suns rays on my body. For me it is not to be a " Bad Ass" it is simply just a feeling, A feeling of Freedom and that is the way I plan on keeping it. If you feel the same way I suggest you become a Member of the AMA, we need more people like you to protect our rights to be free and not so restricted. Not pitching here just giving an avenue to look at. David
  2. Hey Everette, I was inspired by the design of the seat you listed as a choice you were looking at. I do not own it but I like the idea that it has no hump in the front pushing on the BOY"S, seems to be a huge problem for me now when on longer rides. If you happen to get a set, let us know what you think of them. Here is the link with pic to the day long seats. http://www.day-long.com/newpages_1_05/Yamaha_royalstar.html David
  3. I really think it is all about marketing, HD has went all out on this and it shows, they sell lots of apparell and other things that says Harley. That in turn sells more bikes. You look at what harley sells for their bikes and clothing and then take a look at what Yamaha calls their line of clothing and accessory parts. That and the fact that harley still wants you to believe their bikes are AMERICAN made or assembled at least. I am hooked on the idea of having myself a Harley someday, just not going to be the touring model is all, I will leave that for the better suited bikes like Venture, which I will also have one day. I am excited to see what the venture has in store for the next model change. David
  4. I love mine, but I would had I known about venture first and all the great things it offers, I would not have bought the RSTD. Better passenger seat on the venture, at least everyone says so. I would also not be afraid to purchase a earlier year Venture model such as a 2000 or 2001... low miles is a plus, but more inportantly is the fact these things reduce in price and are the same bike as a new bike. Hoping that when mine is payed for, I can afford to buy a new version of the venture providing yamaha does not destroy the original concept of what the Venture has stood for in all the past years. So If you still want to buy a RSTD I will be more than happy to sell you mine, cheap ! ........ and I will go buy the Venture. David
  5. I am curious how long Fitz you have been using the 5w40 syn oil, how many miles you have run it in the bike and what kinds of results you have seen with it. I have used Rotella for Diesel 15w40 for long time and have thought about switching to the syn oil. I still have the usual whine using the Rotella 15w40. David
  6. I do have sheep skin that I drap over the seats. It is really good for switching the feeling on long rides. But like anything nothing last forever and have wound up removing it to get again a different feeling. Hot days it is great to take in with you to restarant and then you have a nice cool barrier between you and that seat that was sitting in the sun. It is also a butt warmer as you can imagine for those cold days. I bought mine off ebay and just bought a hunk of it, enough to make two covers for the seats. Last year I layed gel on top as well with the sheep skin, this year I have installed the gel into the seat, so I will only have to deal with the sheep skin. They sell them in the color black, that is what I purchased. David
  7. hear is a pair that are not quite 1/2 price, but close to it. http://www.rickroushaccessories.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/36_332_52/products_id/4678 David
  8. I have Geico and carry 100/300 liabilty, 500 deductible comp/colision and roadside assistance. I do not carry underinsured or uninsured, my state does not require it. It only covers a maximum of 30,000 medical on the rider and passenger is covered regardless. I have great medical with work and do not have a medical cap amount. my total for this year is $154. I use to have progressive they wanted twice this price for the same thing. I did have an incident with progressive when I had them, and I have to say they were there the next day cutting me a check for the damage. charged me more for the next three years for a rear tire that locked up because of a bag falling off the back and getting caught in rear tire. tire ruined and the peg for hold down cord on bike frame cracked the frame causing them to total the bike. they said it was preventible and so I payed more for three years. David
  9. Well I have to say, usually the price goes down, not often you see it go up. I am not trying to pry Michael, just woundering why are you selling the Bike. Nice looking bike and would trade you in a heartbeat. David
  10. Installed some RK's last fall and they were altered and not sure what I had just bought. I can not believe how loud these things are. I am certain to be saving gas since I feel awkward getting on it too hard. Sounds good so my neighbor says Hoping the wife approves of them, or we will be buying something else somewhat quieter. David
  11. This is the lift we use at work, well made and has options to add to lift to suit your needs. http://www.handy-lift.com David
  12. This is the only oil I have ever used. It was suggested to me and I have never had any problems, but since it is the only oil I have used, I would not know how the other oils would compare, when it comes to shifting and such. I would be interested in knowing what others have to say, that have used this oil as well. David
  13. Thanks Buddy for that honest answer, that is what I am looking for. Thanks again, David
  14. I have searched the threads to which I have not found the answer I was hoping to find. The question is this, How long can you stay seated on your stock seat before it begins to become uncomfortable. Miles or lenght of time I guess is what I am looking for. It might not be the seat either, just the idea of sitting there not really moving alot. Thanks, David
  15. how does one work the jack, does it take two people? one to hold the bike upright and one to jack? or can you jack it up with bike resting on side stand? Thanks, David
