  1. For a very short time (about 6 months) when I was self employed, I had all my debts paid off and was able to pay cash for things. Geeeesh...I doubt I'll ever see those days again but I do recall how sweet the feeling was...now, I just sign my cheque and let everyone take their share LOL I do manage to keep enuf aside for gas, smokes and rum tho!
  2. We do too but the sun is out and it's warming up ... got a 2 day permit and in about an hour, I'll be cruisin!
  3. I guess I'm in the UPPER, upper half of the US (Canada lol) ... we rode last weekend and I'm taking her out today and probably again Saturday. Temps around 10 celcius and sunny...snow patches in fields and near trees is all that's left (at least down here near sea level). Fortunately, I'm on the west coast and probably the only place in Canada where anyone can get out riding this time of year WOOOOO-HOOOOO!!! This won't last long tho...clouding over Sunday with forecast of cooler temps and rain, rain, rain.
  4. What did we do way back in the old days? Seems I recall the crank case was vented thru a filtered cap on the oil filler tube and each oil change, we washed that filtered cap with varsol and away we went. the whole idea of venting back to the intake is to burn off the gasses soas to reduce pollution isn't it?
  5. Sarges... I DISAGREE ... the very first thing I noticed when I got my '06 was how much EASIER it was to handle at slow speeds...even riding two up...easier than my '87 or my '85. I see a lot of talk in here about slow speed handling issues on these 2nd gens, putting on leveling links or narrower front tires, etc to make them better... you guys must all have a different bike than I do LOL. Now I have noticed that the '06 is a bit harder to PUSH around than the '87 is ... maybe that's what ya'll are referrin to? ... :witch_brew:
  6. Sounds like me except I got 3/4 inch on ya! LOL N-E-Wayz, I had the same issues when I got my '85 several years ago... took me a while to get used to it...especially at slow speeds, slow turns, uneven and/or angled surfaces at slow speed...basically anything at slow speed was a challenge...but...I perservered because I LOVED THAT BIKE...and eventually I became ONE with it. Keep at it and good luck!
  7. heh... I finally listened to that vid... geeeesh... now I'm corrupted!! (waiting for the jabs...)
  8. just curious... what did you use for material for the brackets? (steel or aluminum or?)
  9. get yourself a set of Road King mufflers. They're cheap (I paid $50 for mine) and they sound real nice.
  10. That also applies to Canada as far as I'm concerned.
  11. yanno... I haven't even listened to this vid ... maybe I wouldn't have posted it ... I put that there while at work and I don't have speakers connected. Never even thought about bad language ... and I can't read lips neither! LOL
  12. thanks... and they do look different ;-)
  13. I've never had these carbs apart but that sounds like a float needle valve is stuck open.
  14. I tried finding Freebird's "thread on getting the rails to line up " using the search function .... can't find it. I wanted to see what you're referring to. Having said that, I am reminded how much work (to me) it seems to be to locate things using the search ... or better yet, to just browse through a forum such as "Second gen tech talk" trying to find specific pieces of information. The reason I found it to be a "lot of work" was because everything is grouped under that one heading. Would it be possible, Don, to sub-categorize things now that there seems to be such a lot of threads. For example, categories such as "Engine / Transmission"; "Accessories"; "Carburation"; "Tires & Wheels"; etc. That way, a lazy bum like myself who is looking only for specific information wouldn't have so much to browse through.

Awrite.... does that mean what I think it means??? (Piece Of Sh#t)
  17. hmmmmmmm... very cool... looks better than the real thing!
  18. or, if you're lucky enuf to get one like I did (an '06) with only 1300 KILOMETERS on it, you basically have a brand new bike. The PO bought it in '07 and then had no time to ride it ... essentially, it had only been "in service" for a bit over a year by the time I got it last Nov.
  19. It's an "insurance for a day" permit that a person gets when a vehicle has no basic insurance coverage (ie 3rd party liability) and the "tags" have expired. I only insure my scoot for 6 month's out of the year so at times like this, when it's "hit and miss", I will go and get a permit for $25. It's way cheaper than insuring for the whole year. yup... that too!!
  20. :rasberry:
  21. Yep...that old PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) got BLASTED out of me today! Temps rose to a "balmy" 7 degrees celcius with clear, sunny skies...I couldn't hold off any longer...went and got a day permit for the scoot and out we went. Rode about 250 miles round trip over 4.5 hrs with stops here and there. We were well bundled up but still got a bit chilled at times but it was all worth it. And...this was the first time out with my (new to me) Road King mufflers...AH MAN do those things sound sweet! .... AND .... waddya know... I barely noticed the dreaded WHINE ... yeeeee haaaaawwwww! :thumbsup2:
  22. Not meaning to take any business away from the person who's making those adapters coz I'm sure they are of much higher quality but, I made my own out of 1/8" x 2" flat aluminum. Wasn't all that difficult to do and I'm sure other's have done the same. Not 100% sure that the aluminum will hold up over time tho... probably better if they're made out of steel.
  23. Switches sure can go unseen even when you look right at them. Years ago I rented a house that had a gas fireplace. I went almost the whole winter without using it coz I couldn't get the darned thing to work...and then one day when I was dusting around the area (yes, I do that lol) ... I discovered this small rocker switch on the edge of the frame...it was black and so was the frame. It was the power switch.
  24. I put the RK mufflers on mine and sold the stock ones... made enuf on the deal to (almost) pay for my trunk rack.
  25. true enuf .... and for some, all the tools in the world won't do them no good nohow in any situation (certainly not applicable to this bunch)
